I've not had the best of luck accident wise with my current car. It's been in the shop two times over the past year. I had to rent a car for each of these instances so I came to this Avis location both times. The Cumberland Mall/Sears location is kind of hidden and not many people don't know that it's there. It's a great location because you are in and out fairly quickly. For my visit rental, I reserved a compact car and ended up with a full size because they didn't have any compacts in the inventory. I had the car for a week. I reserved a compact car for the second rental thinking maybe I'd get a full size again. Well, they appear to have acquired a compact car to add to their fleet. I ended up with a Mazda 2. I started off renting the vehicle for one week because I wasn't sure how long my car would be in the shop. Two extensions later, my car was finally fully repaired. I simply called the main number to extend the rental both times. I was quoted a final rate over the phone, but the location ended up charging me a lower rate since I had the vehicle for two full weeks. Yay for voluntarily saving me money! read more

Absolute worst rental car experience. I am a regular business traveler and user of Avis as an Avis Preferred member for 6 years now. Same guy checked me in and out. Upon return I arrived 20 minutes before I needed to return my vehicle and then proceeded to wait over 30 minutes at the counter. I shouted to see if anyone was in the back, called Avis national, Avis customer service, the location's phone number, the manager's phone number (which was just the generic line again), and emailed the manager. The guy then pops out from the back closet all of a sudden without any apology and says "it happens". Still never admitted fault. Don't rent from this location and absolute screw from Avis today on New Year's Eve. read more

I created a reservation at the Avis Cumberland Mall location this morning. Took Uber to pick up my car and upon arrival the agent was on his phone with AirPods in. He then tells me they're sold out of cars and have been for a few days and that the system shouldn't have let me book because they have a waiting list with (4) other people in front of me waiting on cars. My issue is, if y'all have been open since 9AM and you saw a booking come through, why are you not calling those bookings to let them know NOT TO COME instead of having them waste their time and money to get to you? There was also no solution for not having a car available. Not a "we've got additional options at another location" or nothing just We can put you on a waitlist! People don't rent cars for leisure, they rent them because they need them for a specific purpose at a specific time! If I could give Avis Rental ZERO stars I would. DO NOT RENT FROM AVIS RENTAL CAR REGARDLESS OF THE LOCATION. I wish I had read these reviews before i booked with them as there seems to be a pattern. The entire company is completely unethical, has zero integrity, and should not be allowed to operate as a business. I booked a reservation with Avis on 10/13/2025 for 10/18/25. I received a call hours before I was scheduled to pick up the vehicle and was told they had no cars in inventory, despite my reservation AND PREPAYMENT. I had a family emergency and needed to travel this specific date. Avis would not accommodate me in any way for THEIR error, refused to give me my money back so I could make other travel arrangements, and one of the staff members hung up on me when I asked to speak with someone higher up. I called back several times and eventually got a Supervisor named Vienna, who was completely incompetent and offered no assistance or accommodation at all. She wanted me to pay an additional $200 to switch the reservation to another location, and aside from that option, offered no other accommodations. I was left with no options but to cancel my reservation, and was therefore unable to make my trip which costed me additional monetary losses because I was not able to be where I was supposed to be to make good on other appointments. Avis has terrible customer service, unprofessional staff, and unethical business practices. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY. Go somewhere else...anywhere else. read more

I had a reservation with Avis and was unable to pick up my rental car at the exact scheduled time. They called me 30 before scheduled time , I was told there were no cars available. Despite having a confirmed booking, the staff made no effort to locate a vehicle at another partner location, nor did they offer any type of discount or compensation for the inconvenience. This experience was incredibly frustrating, as I relied on this rental for my travel plans. A reservation should mean a vehicle is held for you--not that you're left stranded with no alternatives. Should have read the reviews before I booked. They will screw you over. Had to make a last minute reservation. I got a car here. Booked. Received my confirmation. Then 2 hours before I'm supposed to pick up my car they said they are sold out. Can't give me my money back. Lady was not apologetic or at all helpful. Avoid Avis like the -plague I booked a minivan at Courtland Street location in Atlanta three weeks prior to trip. The night before pickup after 5pm ( business hours) I got a call from Avis stating they could not fulfil the minivan for tomorrow pu and had no other alternative for me. They also had no manager on duty I could speak with. I called corporate AVIS AND THEY TOLD ME THEY WOULD TRY AND HAVE A CAR FOR ME AT THE AIRPORT LOCATION NO GUARANTEE. All this while my family was relying for weeks on our reservation for our travel. This is sooooooo unprofessional and I would never consider trusting Avis again anywhere if this is how they practice business. This location is located inside a Cumberland mall. It sits just inside the Mall entrance near the bowling alley called 'Round One'. We arrived here early in the morning to pickup the car ATL failed to give us. I called the location for directions and the young lady told us how to get there. She could have been friendlier, but hey, that's service these days. She DID get us fixed up with the SUV we needed for our drive into AR, and very quickly, might I add. Avis is trash. We flew into Nashville from Texas. Weather was pretty bad with ice and snow on the roads but luckily we reserved a 4 wheel drive jeep wrangler. I started noticing that I could not drive near as fast (around 45 on the highway due to ice) as some of the other vehicles on the road without loosing control so we played it extremely safe and just made the drive longer. We got an hour away from Sevierville and the low tire pressure light came on. We were able to air the tire up and get it to our cabin luckily. Next morning the tire was completely flat. The vehicle did not have the tools to unlock the spare but luckily a friendly neighbor did. I removed the old tire to see several gouges in the tire and tread was almost bald. I replaced the tire with the spare and we got through the rest of our trip. Upon dropping the vehicle back off in Nashville we received a bill that was more than 2x what we were quoted. After double checking the bill we found that they charged us for over 200 miles that we did not drive along with several fees. We will never use Avis or budget again. I guess in Nashville they are partnered somehow? I'm lucky my family and I didn't die on the Tennessee highway honestly. read more

Came to pick up rental with confirmation number and was told very nonchalantly they had no cars. I was dropped off so had to take Uber home. When calling customer service I was assured I would receive refund for my Uber ride. Completed the necessary steps and 27 business days and 9 phone calls have no refund. I reserved a car for travel to KY. Picking up the car at the airport took way to long. Staff seemed more interested in talking with each other than the clients waiting. Asked if I could use my AVIS members # for the sale. Attendant just shook he head without reason why. Car was dripping wet when I received it. Returned the car 40 mins late and rep told me I was not charged for late fee. Not correct, they charged me additional $90 for that. Regional Service Manager (Dexter Barker ) sent me an apology email and invited me to call him for feedback, but did not give a phone number. When I asked for it - he "ghosted" me and has not responded at all. That was a week ago. Not using them again. Very poor experience with this company "all the way around". read more

I tried to return car TWICE to the Atlanta airport at 6 am in the morning. No one was at the counter, but the web site says it is open 24 hrs/day. It was not until I got to the Internaional Phone nos. that I found that it's only open from 8 am until 7 pm. No lockbox, because the site says falsely it is open 24/hrs /day They need to tell the truth both places on their web site where they feature the Atlanta airport site. read more

This place is a joke. They give you dirty cars with 1/2 full gas tanks. If you're not paying attention, you'll get screwed for 1/2 tank of fuel like I did. They gave me a filthy ford focus (piece of econo-junk!) with only 1/2 tank but on the invoice they said it was full. I called the lying counter guy 10 miles later and told him. He suggested I text a photo of the fuel gauge and the mileage to prove it. I did and he promised a $30 refund if we dropped the car off at our destination with a full tank. I did leave it full but never got the promised refund. I texted him and he again promised to do it. I waited another week and NOTHING. So I finally called avis CS and got a snotty punk who did finally open a case and give me the $30 refund. The contract states that if I left the tank 1/2 full when I dropped the car off, they'd have charged me $9.50 per gallon of gas. Since I picked it up 1/2 full and had to leave it full... they should have PAID ME $9.50 A GALLON for the gas! When I told the snotty CS kid that, he got all bitchy and told me if I wanted that, I'd have to go to the location where I rented the car. I felt like saying... Where do I start... I needed a car to drive home for Christmas, so reserved my car about a week in advance from a location that was super close. I received an email confirm with the pick time, "location" and my prepaid amount. There was a note that stated to verify pick up time with location due to store hours. I tried calling the number in my email confirmation all week. No luck. So I decided to goggle Avis, because I wanted to make sure I was headed to the right place. There was a different number that was shown. When I called to the front desk person, I asked where they were located, which was inside inside the mall, like park and go inside. Then he asked if I could come in sooner to pick up the car. So because I wanted to make sure there wasn't any issues, of course I came early. Due to it being at the mall, it took me about 30 mins just to park. Then once inside, the Avis store front looked like a dirty valet stand. The front desk guy had to walk me to the car because he needed to verify the condition and let me know where it was parked. 2 things! 1- there were no Avis dedicated spots and 2 they let cars return without verifying the condition. He came with a bucket and a non working mini vac. Nothing was cleaned. We walked the car, and he did not notate the damages and stated it's prob just dirty due to being a white car. None the less, I was in a rush and had to leave. I took it back home to clean, the car smelled terrible and their was white dog hair everywhere. I Lysol'd the entire car, febreezed it and added a freshener. Didn't help. There was nothing I could do. So I started packing gifts in the trunk. Omg as I started, I notice the gifts were soggy. Dude, the trunk was WET. I was disgusted. Super frustrated. I grab some plastic bags to lay down. As I got on the road in this smelly car with a wet trunk, I noticed a light on the ignition. You guessed it, over due for an oil change and maintenance required. I'm tired of writing so I will leave it at that. read more

I went to the Windy Hill location and the owner there was great. AND he informed me that my phone number was correct in the system. No way anyone called me from Cumberland. My experience was horrible! DO NOT GO HERE! Paid for a compact car online for pick up the next morning at 8 am and I get a call/voicemail at 8:02 from Isaac (so called manager) am as I'm pulling in stating that there were no cars there and he is not sure why the system said there was. I call back and then Isaac says that there actually is a car but it's a "premium" car and I'd have to pay extra for it if I wanted it. I said why should I have to pay extra for your systems "mess up!" I shouldn't have to pay extra for anything. He was not trying to attempt to make it right at all. He didn't care not one bit! Had it been me (because I'm in the customer service world) I would pull strings out my ass to help because right is right and wrong is wrong. Period. He said I can go to the airport. Lol. No ass hole I have to be at work in an hour and you are seriously the worst manager EVER. This story actually goes on and on but all I can say is this place is a JOKE. Avis as a WHOLE is a JOKE. I highly recommend AVIS and this location. I needed a car quickly to drive back to Tampa and had a great experience. Issac had my car ready (standard) but I decided to upgrade to a Lincoln MKX and Isaac quoted me a great rate and was quick to get me in and out of the rental place so I was on my way within minutes. The car had a full tank of gas and I was charged as quoted when I turned the vehicle into the rental location in Tampa. The car was exceptional and it was a relaxing drive back to Tampa. WARNING: DO NOT RENT FROM THIS LOCATION!!!! I wish someone would have warned me about renting a vehicle from the Avis Rental Car - Cumberland Mall location. Reasons why you should not rent from this location: 1. Incompetent employees working the customer service/ rental desk that are lazy, rude and completely incompetent. 2. The vehicles are not cleaned!! The car I rented reeked of a smoky and musty scent. The odor was horrible, I had to personally clean and deodorize the vehicle myself - I did not receive any type of compensation/discounts for the inconvenience. The only suggestion that the person working the front desk as well as Avis Corporate Customer Care rep offered was "to go to the ATL airport and pick a different car". Trust me if I wasn't in such a dire need to have a car at that very moment I would have taken my business and hard earned cash somewhere else. 3. Car selection and inventory is pathetically limited --- let me correct myself - There is NO car selection or inventory. 4. Reservations get cancelled unexpectedly without any warning. JUST AWFUL!!! I made a reservation through AAA for a week long rental and was notified via voicemail 29 minutes before the pick-up time of 10am that there were no cars available and that something may be available the next day. WHAT!!! UNACCEPTABLE!!! The reservation was made 3-4 business days before pick-up and you call me as I am in route to your location. The rental agent offered ABSOLUTELY NO ASSISTANCE in locating another car or upgrading the current rental...he replied " I'm sorry, I don't know what to tell you other than we don't have any cars". I requested the name and contact number of the store manager and was given the names AL Baskaya and Nisha Sanabria and NO contact number or email. HOW WILL THIS BE RESOLVED....IT WON'T AND DIDN'T!!! They never cancelled the reservation with AAA or the online system. This cluster*F of a situation cost me additional money and loss of time arriving to my scheduled destination with my family. I flew to Cleveland Ohio and went to puck up the car however no where when the car was reserved did it say a deposit was required. Got that taken care of picked up car and left. The car was a Ford Focus and it rode really rough. The car was to be returned back Sunday (same day) as rental. When returned the car this is where the good turned bad . Filled the car up with gas just minutes before returning the car. The girl at the return said the contract was not in the system and I would have to go to the window well they must have been working in slow motion so I went inside to the counter and guess what they were also in slow motion so back outside again and then back inside. So I finally got it returned back. Mind you that I have a flight to catch which was the last one that day. Taking so long there and then catching the shuttle back to the airport need I say more???? I missed my flight by about 10 minutes, I had to spend the night at the airport which was not good and everything food or beverage closed up at 7 PM. So now with snow falling outside I stayed at the airport all night to catch the flight the next morning which after 4 flights I finally got on the plane. Then when I checked my account there was another charge taken from my account for what I don't know. Now I am concerned about the deposit when or if it will be posted back to my account. Maybe they were having a bad day but I ended up having a real bad night too. Hopefully I never have to go through this ordeal again or maybe I should look around more the next time. read more
