Horrible place horrible customer service they don't even try to help make up rule they not true.

I rent frequently from this place. The hours of operation are better than the Hertz locations around Bergen (open on Sundays). The services are generally okay but it depends on the individual behind the counter. Two of them actually asked me for a job during our transactions - a bit strange. I do get my upgrades occasionally as an AVIS First member but it is rare. Most of the time, I got cars that are beat-up and not clean. I found strange things in the cars some of the time - such as dried sausages, empty beer / coke bottles, half finished Seven-Eleven big gulp cups, etc. among the things I found in the car. Once, I got a car with both windshield wiper blade so worn that they detached from the arm when I need it. I had to stop by a gas station near I78 to get it changed so I don't end up in an accident in pouring rain. Now my company is moving its business contract to Hertz and I am very glad that I don't need to come here any more. read more

*** DO NOT RENT FROM THIS LOCATION *** I've been a frequent customer of this location for the past 2 YRS as I often rent for business. The last 3-4 rental have been extremely disappointing. The cars I've gotten from there have been absolutely filthy. The Ford Eco exterior was dirty and the interior had soda bottles and candy wrappers in it. The most recent car I got -- the Nissan Armada -- also had a dirty exteriod and the interior stunk of cigarettes . Now, truth be told I'm not one to complain so never escalated this, BUT what's driven me to this review is the dubious behavior that took place over the course of my last rental. In October, I went to pick up a car I reserved only to be told they didn't have it available. They gave me an alternate -- a dirty Nissan Armada. I took out the insurance since it was a corp rental, and started to insect the car. As I did, I pointed out a few scratches.As I was asking her to mark them, she quickly interrupted to say: "..anyway don't worry about it because you're fully covered". I thought that was a really odd thing to say but didn't dwell on it much more. Fast forward about 10-20 minutes into my trip to client and I realize there's no gas. Again not thinking much of it (and assuming I'd just return the car with same amount of gas), I pull over to fill up. End up returning the car to a different location in NY; since I'm a wizard member I have them email me the receipt. When I reviewed the transaction I noticed they charged me $230 for gas surcharge. I called the location and they refuse to share any responsibility. In fact the same women who I rented the car from actually HUNG UP ON ME as I was talking to her and refuses to waive the erroneous charges. Anyway, I've spent enough energy on this place. Won't go here anymore; and will take my business elsewhere . My next & final step will be to report them to the Better Business Bureau and then just write them off. But I will say one last thing if you ever care to rent from here... Typically I don't judge books by their cover, but in this case you should know that the look of the location / grounds is exactly n-line with the type of service / cleanliness you'll get with the product -- dirty. read more

Was going to rent a car from the Avis in Ft. Lee, but found a great deal (and much cheaper) at this Avis. The selection was limited, and they didn't have the car we reserved, but we got a car that was clean and drive very nicely. The renting process was very easy; we were the only customers there the entire time. For the price, its a great place. read more

I rented from here in February 2018, I made my reservation 1 month in advance. Upon arriving I was told that the car I reserved was not available. My only options were a compact car with a broken windshield or a Ford Flex. When I asked how much for the Flex since it's an SUV and larger than what I wanted I was told it was $25 a day extra. When I stated that I should be given the price I was quoted for my full size car reservation the desk agent acted very nervous, she went to the back room and made several phone calls. She came back and said "he" wants us to charge you extra!! I asked why, for what? She said "that's what he wants". After another 10 minutes back and forth and a few more back room phone calls in a foreign language I got my agreed upon price. Upon returning the car, it all started again. A different desk agent told us she needed to charge us more. When I asked why she didn't have an answer, just that she did. After demanding to pay the agreed upon price multiple times she gave in. I would recommend everyone to steer clear of this place, they pray upon people not reviewing their contracts and receipts. read more

I just rented from them over the weekend. Great customer service. Extended my rental with no problem. Car was very new. Clean inside. Full tank of gas. Even offered the option of Ezpass in the car already. Will rent from them again. read more

Went online and booked a full-size vehicle. Went to pick it up this morning only to find that they didn't have it available. The rep. asked if I wanted to pay the extra to rent a minivan instead. Is she crazy? How do you let customers reserve cars that you don't have? Anyway, contacted Avis who basically told me to transfer my reservation to another Avis in the area, Fort Lee, and had to Uber there. How ridiculous. read more

I needed a car for the weekend and this was the only place open. I was quoted at $50/day and told that the tank was full. The tank was only 1/4 full and when I brought it back early, I was charged $94/day. I will never go here again. I recommend enterprise. They are cheaper and do not lie about the gas gauge. read more

Worst Avis/Budget location ever. Dirty cars, slow service, beat up office.

Do not rent from these people. I used them in twice in a month and the following awfulness occurred Rental #1: Picked-up car, it was dirty inside and out but needed to get on the road. Returned car in same, physically intact condition. 60 days later i got a claim letter for $1,500 saying that the car had been in a collision while in my possession. Completely not true. The car was returned in the same condition i got it: with the front nose intact. Rental #2: Showed up to pick-up my car at 9am, was told, "sorry we've no cars until at least noon". I had a rental contract showing that i was to have a car at 9am booked weeks previously online. Counter guy was too busy on the phone chatting with people to engage me properly. Attitude was along the lines of "nothing i can do, sorry". Ended up schlepping to Manhattan to get the rental. So between the bad service, dirty cars and now their attempt to defraud me for an accident that clearly happened after i dropped it off, i highly recommend you steer well clear of these people. I've always found Avis to be a generally okay company to deal with, i think these guys are just bad apples. Going forward i will be taking photos of car and service rep that check me in at all rental locations to protect myself. read more

Absolutely abysmal. This is my 4th time renting here (only because I had no choice) and it will definitely be the last. The worst customer service every single time. Overcharging beyond what my rental contract said, not providing ezpass (as per my contract) and not even providing a full tank of gas!!!! How the hell is that possible?? And I'm Avis First!! If this is how they treat their "preferred" customers, then I can't imagine how they are for the everyday customer. read more

Do not go here!!!!! This place is the worst!!! Rented a car from them and right from the start they wrote down the tank was full on the contract...and it was not. Then the car died not once but twice!! Once in the middle of a intersection.... also there was garbage all over he car and a empty liquor bottle under the seat that I didn't even notice until Home.... Very unprofessional and disappointing! We reserved a car two weeks earlier for Sunday Sept 25. You would think that would be enough time for them to plan and be prepared with a car. We got there and they did not have a single car in stock. This is after we traveled a half hour to get to them. The guy told us to come back Monday morning at 7 when they open. The whole reason we were renting the car on Sunday is because we needed to get somewhere early Monday morning. Picking it up Monday would be too late and anyway they must honor their reservation which was for Sunday. We called the general customer service and they were incredibly rude and unhelpful. Thankfully an hour later someone returned a minivan. We had reserved a compact car, but would take whatever was available. While we were being helped another woman walked in that reserved a car and the guy told her he has nothing. How is this okay?? It is one thing if no one reserved a car and were walk ins, it's another when people had an actual reservation. I made a comment/ suggestion that a car must be sent from Newark. I wrongfully assumed they would have cars there. The guy said they have no cars either. I just don't understand this. I thought this was a reputable car rental company and not some fly by night operation. How can they not have cars? Aren't they a car rental company? This is NOT a way to run a business. People are relying on them and they aren't coming through with the service they supposedly do. They are useless. I would not use Avis again nor would I recommend them to anyone. (Not just the place in Englewood, but the company in general) There are tons of car rental companies out there. Don't they realize competition is fierce and if they don't have it together people will go elsewhere? read more
