Part 1 of my review! This is for pickup only so far! I was hit by a driver going through a stop sign a few weeks back. After getting everything in order, their insurance sent me to this Hertz for a rental. I called the day before to confirm my reservation. When I got there, I did not realize that it was part of a gas station.... So unless you saw the decently small signs, you missed it lol! GAS STATION, SERVICE CENTER, and hertz. But now I know that its here. Frankie was missing when I got there! I had to wait about 15 minutes... Not the biggest deal. I was given the choice of 2 cars, a jeep and a toyota. I went with the jeep because I've never driven one before! This is not their fault, its mine. Do not make the same mistake that I did! Do not get the jeep, especially if you are a larger person. After selecting my vehicle, they sent it to get sanitized, another 10 minutes.... All in all, I spent a tad bit more time than I had hoped to spend there, but oh well! Frankie was very nice and helpful! The station looks a little.. grungy, but the office is nice! I would go back here again. read more

This is by far the best rental car location around, and that is 100% because of Frankie's hard work and dedication to her job. I have rented from here several times over the years and am always greeted with friendly professionalism and a well maintained vehicle. She also answers the phone when I call! Hallelujah! This place is kind of in the middle of nowhere but so worth it to get a car here rather than renting a car at Newark Airport. The uber here from the airport was about $15 but I saved hundreds renting from them. Its adjacent to a garage and gas station. Small little office. The lady was super nice and helpful. Much better experience than I have had in other car rental places. She showed us the basics of the car, we signed the paperwork and we were on our way fairly quickly! read more

First time for me renting from this Hertz, and it could not have been easier and more pleasant. Different than most other branches, just a small counter in a small waiting room that is connected to a service/gas station. It's run by one single person, Francesca, who knows her stuff, is very friendly and fast, and would be in the Hertz of Fame if there was one. She definitely goes above and beyond to take care of a customer. Take note of all this, if anyone from Hertz brass is reading this, you want people like her. All in all it was a quick and smooth experience, which is how it should be, very happy with it. The only thing I was curious about (nothing at all to do with the service here at all), I was wondering why the daily insurance was almost three times what I usually pay at other branches. I have no idea if it a personal rate based on anything, or the state (I never rented from a NJ Hertz before), and while it was not high enough to be a deal-breaker (rental still cheaper than NYC where I'm from, and no hassle driving in that traffic), I did only rent for one day, but more days would add up fast, I was just wondering. read more

I would 100% NOT recommend renting a car from this place. First of all, it's not even a Hertz, just a dirty and grimy gas station/repair shop that has 1-2 Hertz rental cars at it. Had booked a car for 8am pick up, arrive at 8, no one is at the desk. Ask the guys in the shop where is everyone and how do I get my rental car? They call the person who does the Hertz and they say she'll be here in 20 minutes (8:20). I needed this rental car at 8am.... which is why booked it for 8am! So unprofessional. What if I had something extremely important to get to? Totally unacceptable... will never rent from again. Would avoid this place and just rent at Enterprise or an actually Hertz location. read more

Horrible experience. They downgraded the vehicle class when I showed up (paid for Impala or equivalent and was offered Malibu or Fusion) and then never informed me they would be closed on my drop off day. I had to request documentation of the existing vehicle damages and the girl said don't worry I'll be here when you return. I wasted lots of time going to an alternate drop off location and had to pay extra due to going past my original return time. Worst car rental experience ever. I mostly blame the local Hertz location but Hertz did nothing to help when I was talking to them. read more

When I went to pick up the car and when I went to return it, somehow the bad luck gods hit this office and it became extremely busy. They've only got the one lady to handle the entire thing, not only that she's handling the transactions for the garage, too. Regardless, she seemed to handle the stress very well, acted nice, and even helped me figure out a major problem during the transaction. No muss, no fuss. No upselling, no pressure, just gave me my keys and off I went. One of the garage guys even gave me some helpful tips on the car. I didn't ask and I don't think he was required to. When I came back a long time later, she remembered me and even asked how my vacation went. Nice place to rent a car, one of the cheapest places, too. I am coming from NYC and all cars there are expensive. If you want much cheaper, come out here with NJ Transit. Just be aware that on the weekends the train service is limited. You only get a train to and from Bay Street every 2 hours. My only problem with this place is it's closed on sundays, which was caused me to rent the car for a day longer than I wanted. However, the fact that it is still so much cheaper to buy a train ticket and rent an extra day by coming here than renting in the city makes up for it. It bugs me that this place has a lower rating due to a reviewer talking about the garage portion of this place and not purely about the hertz part, which is what people searching for rental cars are looking for. I'm happy to tell you this place is just fine. edit: I requested yelp look into that low review on the garage that did not apply to this rental and they did indeed move that review to the correct listing quickly. This was the first time for me renting from Hertz it could not have been easier and more pleasant. I needed a vehicle and had to rent one at the last minute I requested a mid size vehicle and was upgraded to a 2019 GLC 300 Mercedes!! The representative that assisted me was so kind and courteous. This was my first time renting from Hertz however; definitely won't be my last. read more

I can't say enough about this Montclair Hertz location and it's because of Frankie. We rented twice for a couple of road trips. Both times I received new vehicles and great service. Booked a car through USAA with this hertz and were thrilled with our experience. Frankie, the main desk clerk, was friendly and helpful, giving us our best options based on price and coverage. They didn't have the vehicle we booked in stock and upgraded us without hesitation. When we returned the cat, we needed a ride to the train station nearby because of our luggage and Frankie graciously provided us with complimentary transportation. We were so happy with the price and experience that we will only use this hertz from now on when we travel throughout the tri-state area. read more

Been going here for years when the need for a rental arises. I've sent many friends and relatives here as well for normal vehicle rentals as well as Penske truck rentals for moving purposes. Francesca, or Frankie to most, who runs the rental business is a pleasure to deal with and always goes out of her way to make sure everything is done right, and I (or folks I've sent to her) get the best possible prices. Being the rental place is based out of and attached to a service station (Montclair Motor Werks) she also waives that stupid rental car refueling nonsense where if you don't stop and gas up before the return, hertz charges you $10/gallon. You can bring it back empty and just fill it right there for normal pump prices. If your in the area and need a rental this is the place to go. I do recommend calling ahead if you want a specific car as she can most of the time accommodate any request by ordering a car for you ahead of time. You can also do so if you need a large moving truck. read more
