Oh...I thought I had updated my review for this location from the last time I rented, but when I checked, I hadn't. It looks like I'm in the consensus that the service here has gone downhill severely. First off, I've rented from this location for 25 years now, at various times. The last time I was there, (about 1 yrs ago) The counter person told me that they needed to know the name of the insurance carrier who was covering the LDW (Liability insurance) on my credit card. I don't know the answer to that, I just know that it has been a feature of my American Express card for decades! It's one of the main reasons I keep and use the card. She INSISTED that they needed a name. Ok...after that was all settled, I received a substandard car. A lot of dents, and dings that need to be accounted for at the time we do the "walk around". The worst!!! Waited 45mins in queue to pick up my reserved car. When I got to the front I was told there were no cars available!!! I would have to wait or take an electric car, which I did not want. As I was running late with the delay at the queue I demanded to have the car that I had reserved. After much deliberation the manager went to find me a car and handed me the keys to a Dodge. Telling me there was NO petrol in the car (13miles) but if I wanted to leave that is the best she could do. Then I looked properly and the car was filthy both inside AND outside. When I went back into the office to complain, I was told that to come back at drop off (6pm) and speak to Manager then. After filling up the tank ($38) I proceeded on my trip (not knowing how much petrol I would need). I then returned the car at 6pm with 117 miles left on the tank. No manager was on site. I complained and asked for compensation. They told me they would be in touch, which no one was. I was returned $25 for the cost of the cleaning of the car and told that I should have returned the vehicle with the same level of petrol as I took. This is not acceptable. No compensation for the dirty state of the car at delivery and on top of it kept the cost of my petrol and refuse to compensate. Why is it on weekends you have to wait in line for an hour to get a car especially as a Presidents Club member. Whoever manages this location is out of touch with reality. In addition, corporate needs to look at process improvement. The employees stand there just waiting. There should be 10 computers going at once. I booked a car for my pregnant wife and listed her as the pickup. I paid the rental in full. When she arrived, the person at the desk was not only rude to her, he was SHOUTING at her and LITERALLY MADE HER CRY. He then asked her to go to another budget all the way uptown, who made her wait 30 mins to tell her that there is no car available. I rent from Avis often, be careful of this location. The woman who works the desk is great. Upfront, no BS. In and out. It's the employees who work the garage who are terrible. Always rude, which is fine. My big issue is that on three separate occasions they have accepted my return, said I was good to go, only for me to get billed after the fact for things I didn't do. I've been billed for dog hair (don't have a dog), smoking smell (don't smoke, smelled like smoke a little at pick up), and dirt (no dirt in the vehicle). I actually think the issue is less them being pricks, and more that they do a shitty job cleaning, and end up charging the next person for someone prior's issues. Or maybe they are just pricks I'm not sure. In any case, make sure you document everything before and after pick up! read more

Mi3 1 N Galleria Mall dr. on June 27, i traveled down there which is about an hour from the location where I'm now in Woodridge N.Y., and i showed them the text message i got from roadside, and they said they don't have anything available, so i waisted in total about 2 1/2 hours traveling and gas for nothing because of the miscommunication, i called back roadside, and they told me they have a replacement for me on June 29, 25 at Avis in Newark airport 132 Carson Rd, i traveled there its 2 hours each way from the place where i am in Woodridge N.Y., i came there. and the manager in Avis at Newark told me that she sees, that the Avis manager in Delaware made a note that this rental is not eligible for replacement, i told her that i was guided by roadside to travel this 2 hours to get a replacement? plus the screens in my car showed the oil is getting close to 0, what does that mean its not eligible for replacement, i came here to replace it for fun?? they gave me a rental with a problem it needs a oil change how could it be not replaceable if the rented vehicle has a problem? she told me i should call customer service i spoke to supervisor of customer service and she told me only a supervisor from roadside can remove it, i waited hours on hold in the Newark airport to get to this supervisors, when i finally reached the supervisor from roadside, he said it doesn't have to do with him, i told him that customer service sent me to him, he said tell them that i said that customer service has to help with this, a whole day i waisted in Newark getting back and forth, and the manager and her worker at Avis preferred in Newark where extremely nasty and not willing to help. and that's after i traveled the second time on the guidance of roadside, and i was lost with nobody at Avis to help me, i was forced to take back my car that needed the oil change urgently from when it was picked up, and i had to go search for an oil change location, pay myself from the pocket to fix it, and waisted my Whole day at Avis @ Newark, plus had to pay for gas and tolls. is this normal?? there's O communication between roadside and the Avis locations, roadside is not informed with notes that are made by Avis locations, and they are guiding to travel hours for nothing. this has to be addressed, and I'm waiting for compensation. thanks. read more

It had nothing to do with him (the confusion started at Logan in Boston) but he helped me get it all sorted nonetheless. My wife just rented a car with with a prepay a few weeks ago. At the pickup counter we spent over an hour on the phone with 3 different folks from Avis Preferred support who said I have to forward all emailed confirmations to honor the pricing on our reservation because when I showed up to pick up my car there was no rate code due to an error in the Avis website which we booked from and we had to pay 400 more than our confirmed price on multiple emailed confirmation invoices. I was promised the pricing mistake would be taken care of by the time she return the car. But this was not the case and the final was increased amount. Based on Avis' lack of response I feel like I should immediately file a case with the Better Business Bureau, NY Department of Consumer Affairs, and my credit card. There is even a NY Dept of Consumer Affairs sign at the pickup desk that states confirmed reservation prices should be honored within half an hour and this was not the case as I had to be on the phone with multiple supervisors and support staff for over an hour with no resolution other than forwarding my wife's invoice to this email in order for my reservation to honored as promised by the 3rd supervisor I spoke to. To add insult to injury wife even received an email from Avis support asking why she emailed them the confirmation. Also Avis support is incapable of receiving a forward of their own email confirmation because of a 3 meg attachment limit. read more

This is more of a review for Avis corporate, however I did pick up the car from this location. It was an absolute nightmare. Car broke down and would not drive as soon as we got to our hotel. Avis was not helpful at all in getting a replacement car. There were no Ubers / Lyfts in our upstate NY destination and Avis said they were unable to make arrangements for a ride to an Avis to pick up a replacement car. They said it would take 6+ hours and we'd be charged $300+ to have them drop off a new car... when it's their car that broke down 1.5 hours after pickup!! We were stranded without a car (and no ubers/lyft/public transit) for nearly half of our trip. We had to spend hundreds of dollars in alternate transportation and missed reservations. We also nearly missed our rehearsal dinner, had to spend over 10 hours dealing with this situation/ on the phone with Avis, and were stranded in our hotel for an entire day when we had multiple activities planned. Avis literally ruined our vacation. We could not get a hold of anyone that actually worked at Avis--only a labrynth of third-party dispatchers were available by phone and didn't even try to help. Essentially over and over again we were told that there was nothing they could do to get us out of our remote upstate NY destination. I have used Avis cars just fine in the past but after this experience I will probably never use Avis again. read more

I'm renting 3 vans for 2 months. They are telling me since I'm a wizard customer, i can not collect points to my number. I have the vehicles for another month and they tell me I still can get points due to I'm under the first agreement. They also tell you that they can give you savings up to 35%. They have no vehicle for a 35% discount. The most they will give you is 5 or 10%. Then the guy Mario who I talk to would not get me a supervisor. So wrong on all accounts. read more

Thieves. Check receipt for fraudulent gas charges. I've dropped off at this location twice (68 East 11th Street, NYC). Both times I had filled the tank and both times I was billed for gasoline. --- On my last return, the attendant noted the fuel as "full" on the paperwork. I brought the paperwork to the man behind the counter, who signed me out. As I was about to leave, I noticed that my bill was $50 higher than was documented in the paperwork from the pick-up location. Turns out he had added a $50 fee. I commented on that and the man grumbled that he'd take it off the bill. I pressed him further and he said that the computer does that automatically when fewer than 75 miles have been driven even if the tank says it's full unless the renter can prove that the gas was added into the tank. First, it is Avis' policy to do this without confirming with the renter that gas was purchase or not? I can't imagine that this is true. Why doesn't he ask for a receipt to prove that gas was purchased before billing for it? Second, I had driven nearly 300 miles, which is far more than 75! Very dishonest staff. I've been renting cars for 28 years. The only two instances in my lifetime of having issues with gasoline charges have been at this location. And both times the tank was "full," the charges weren't conveyed, I had to catch them out on the receipt, and the staff said they were made "in error." I will never again rent from this dishonest business. Can you imagine how many people don't go over their paperwork and how much money this business is scamming off of their customers? DO NOT RENT FROM HERE. Leslie the guy who manages the customer line straight up took a bribe to allow a late arriving customer to jump to the front of the line we waited two hours for. At the customer service desk, Talena immediately began our transaction with a confrontational attitude, yelling at my girlfriend. My 5'-2" GF was not comfortable driving a car larger than a mid-size(as we had reserved) and they were only willing to offer a mini van or pick up truck. After waiting on line for 2 hours beyond our reservation, and only being offered options that we had not reserved with a take it or leave it attitude, we finally responded with frustration, as other customers were also showing as a result of this awful service (some significantly louder and boisterous). They voided our contract. We walked away having lost 3 hours of time with no car and missing a doctor's appointment that we had made the initial reservation for. Had we brought cash to bribe Leslie, would the result have been the same? If my hispanic girlfriend was a tall, white man like the one that was reacting so much worse beside her and still got a car, would the result have been the same? I've been coming here nearly every weekend for the past 6 months, and they've always treated me right. Get to know the people and respect what they do, and they WILL take care of you. I've gotten several great upgrades just from not being a grouch. I find that MOST poor experiences at rental locations are due to people not understanding what THEY did wrong. I had the worst customer experience I've ever had here - rude, did not help us with insurance or toll charges, did not show us the car, spent 45 minutes just to check us out and then played a "prank" saying we would get a parking ticket for the car (when she was hugely inefficient in checking us out) and made us rush. The staff here honestly need to get new jobs if they are this horrible to customers and hate their jobs/customers this much. The car itself was dirty on the seats - no one showed us to the car, or how to use it (which is case any time else I have rented a car). 100% use enterprise instead, even if it's more expensive. this customer service is terrible. i reserved the car at noon, we got there at 11:50pm ... there was a long line. we did not get a car til 3 hours later. one of the reasons is that my DL was expired but i could not renew in person due to convid19. i had to step out and do on my phone. DMV stated online the expirations will extend, there were other people had a same situation. the second issue is that staffs are not multitasking or proactive as they should. the payment method was nonsense because they won't accept my credit card if they were going to take my friend DL. once my DL and payment were approved, the customer service could have help the next customer in line while getting my car pull up. the good side that the customer service let me cut in line after i renew my DL on the phone and has some humored. on the busy day, they could text or send a notification the location status. it is like booking a flight, they send notifications to passengers whether flight is delayed or on time. read more
