Johnny the branch manager is amazing - he was friendly, thorough, knowledgeable, and quick. He answered all of my questions and made some recommendations about the return of the car that saved me tons of time (not arriving at a certain time when the courthouse next door is having rush hour). He helped me with car selection, got me a great vehicle, and set my mind at ease regarding the insurance coverage which I had questions about. Return was also a breeze, thanks to Johnny's advice about timing and the prompt and professional attention from the lovely Z. Z was friendly and the return process was simple - she met me at the car, worked quickly and calmly, and I didn't even have to step into the office. National has a great team at this location and I plan to always use this location going forward. read more

I had an amazing experience with National Car Rental at the Fort Lauderdale airport, thanks to two phenomenal team members--Paul and Rico. My family and I landed at FLL and worked with Latisha and another gentleman who were also great with our change to our initial reservation. I made a mistake in not reading all of the fine print (they did it all right - I did not see something - it was my error) and upon returning the car both Paul and Rico resolved and handled it with such kindness, understanding and total professionalism. They didn't just fix my issue when I was in a panic - they made me feel valued at National car rental throughout the entire return process. It's rare to find customer service this good, and it made a huge difference in my travel day. Because of Paul and Rico, I'll always choose National when I rent a car. This is the the National Car Rental location at La Guardia (LGA). This was for personal use, not for company travel. I paid for the whole cost myself, no points were used. I will set aside the whole "getting to the car rental place from the terminal" for later in this review. I arrived at 2 pm on a weekday, but it was before the holiday weekend. There was traffic on the way to the rental car location, so it took a while. I was the only person on the shuttle. I thought the shuttle looked rather new, very clean. He helped me with my bags. He dropped me right at Emerald Aisle. I was met by Marilyn. She asked me my car preference and then showed me the car with the lowest mileage, helped me with my bags to the car, got the keys for me and gave me some general info about checking out. She could not have been nicer and she did ask me to put in a good word for her at corporate, which I did. Not only was my car "low mileage" but it was brand new. It has 301 miles on it and part of the sticker was still stuck to the back window. Getting to the rental car lot. I arrived in Terminal B so I had to take the Intra Terminal Shuttle to Terminal A to get the shuttle to the National lot. For me, it would have been more convenient to take an Uber there and I will do that next time. I had 2 pieces of luggage so walking there was not an option. It wasn't the worst thing to have to take 2 shuttles, but honestly not very practical. And it did set me back into the beginning of rush out to get out of the city to Suffolk County. read more

I always have a great experience renting from this location. It's super convenient if you live in Brooklyn. They go above and beyond with their customer service - and recently made returning a car I got at JFK super easy, when JFK didn't answer and the National customer service was useless :) Big shout out to Johnny - he's so professional and kind and knows what he's doing. read more

My friend and his wife reserved a car for Christmas eve. They traveled all the way from New York City to Westchester County Airport to pick up the car. They told them there were no cars available when they arrived. They had to cancel all their plans for their road trip to Minnesota. National didn't even give them a courtesy call to let them know the car reserved was unavailable. National told them they didn't lose money, so it's not a big deal. This is extremely disappointing. read more

Racist and Discriminatory. My partner and I were waiting in line at the State street location at 9am. A Sharply dressed black guy approached us nicely and asked if we were in line for National. I noticed his purple bandana/mask - it went really well with his beige outfit. Honestly I loved his outfit and haven't seen one that good in a while (pandemic times where sweats are our everyday). We responded with "no, we booked Enterprise, but asked what the daily rates were National." He laughed and responded in a Chinese accent, TWENTY-FI DOLLA. Then ran into The National office. Context. I am Chinese born American. I can't believe his response, especially when all of this #BLM and #StopAsianHate is roaming social media and the streets of every city. I stood there frozen, I didn't know how to react other than felt complete embarrassment and anger. This happened on Saturday 3/20/2021. Was substantially late for a reservation to go to a wedding and they'd given the car away. On its own, that's fine - I was late that's on me! But the staffer who helped me insisted on giving me a condescending lecture about the terms and conditions, how rental cars work in New York, etc. When I asked if we could move things along because I had a time crunch, the staffer then started lecturing about being rude, despite themselves starting all of this. Very clear they had ego/personality invested in "educating" me in a deeply rude and totally unprofessional way. When I said "fine you can be right I just want to know if I can have a car or not" they apparently felt the need to go get a manager which is hilarious given how intensely rude they had been from literally our first interaction. Ended up with no car, so went over to Avis down the street who just helped me like a normal group of professional adults. Awful experience, wouldn't recommend. read more

Cheery customer service while they try to upsell the hell out of you. Rented an economy car and was invited to upgrade for "only $15." I'm an Executive Elite member with National, so one car class upgrades are standard. I refused the upgrade. Turns out only one car was left anyway. Then they tried to sell me a quarter tank of gas, but when I arrived at my destination I was charged for a full tank. Fortunately the airport where I dropped the car reversed the charge. For whatever reason I've only rented from Hertz in the past, but there weren't any locations near me so I gave National a try. Johnny was super friendly and helpful and got us on the road faster than I'd ever experienced with a rental company. Within a few minutes, my wife noticed a faint smell of cigarettes, and it became clear to me that she was not happy. I went back and Johnny not only apologized, but gave us an upgrade for the same price. He never even took the time to smell the car, but got us back on the road immediately. Had a nightmare trying to rent a a truck with Budget who cancelled on us the morning of our move. The staff at National were amazing in helping us get on the road asap. The lady at the desk, Destiny, let us check out several large minivans and SUVs in the garage. When we said they might not be big enough, she called around to find us something. She even went next door to Enterprise and managed to track down a cargo van for us at an enterprise location in Manhatten. The service here was amazing. I can't recommend the staff and location highly enough. Destiny totally saved our 1000mi move. read more

I had a great experience renting a vehicle from National at the State Street location in Brooklyn back in late September, 2016. I rented a mini-van to be driven by me, but mostly by my son. We were both impressed by the vehicle's design, comfort, and capacity. However, how we felt about the vehicle itself pales in comparison to the remarkable customer service we received from a Mr. Earnest Grant. Individuals represent their employers every time they interact with customers. From my first phone conversation with Mr. Grant, I knew I was dealing with an honest and helpful person. He proved to be fantastically helpful and knowledgeable. He arranged our rental and had us taken care of quickly and without error. When a mini-van was brought out, he noticed a small problem with one of the sideview mirrors and took the time to get another vehicle out for us. He was friendly, pleasant, professional in all ways. We left the location happy and confident that we had a good vehicle for our trip and neither of us could remember the last time we had had a customer service experience as good as this. It's rare these days to find someone who isn't simply doing their job but rather doing their job well. It's much, much rarer to find someone in customer service who does their job with excellence and care, and goes out of their way, for no reason other than that they take pride in who they are, and in their work and how it reflects on their employer. I hope National appreciates Mr. Grant as much as we did. read more

I have rented cars from this location several times since they first opened last year. Their customer service is top notch. Two agents, Destiny and Earnest have been super, not only in efficiency but also in helpfulness. On one occasion, Destiny took care of a rental that the National Car Rental web site could not handle, making it easy. I rented a car again earlier this week and foresaw the possible need to make a change in the rental terms and once again, Destiny (and then Earnest after the fact) handled it absolutely smoothly. We just rented a car from National in NY near La Guardia. We took an EZ Pass and when we went through the Whitestone Bridge it wouldn't let us through. The attendant checked the EZ Pass and said the account was invalid. Unbelievable! read more

Terrible customer service. Cancelled my reservation without notifying me because I didn't arrive within a 30 minute window. Also, they don't track vehicles so could not tell me whether any SUVs were among the cars to be returned that day. Need to drive 13 hours and get on the road and they did nothing to help. Thoroughly unapologetic and blamed me for not reading the fine print of the reservation, which no one does. Johnathan Griffin was particularly surly and unhelpful. Go to Avis down the street. So.
