Never doing business with Avis ever again. The lady at the front desk that was short and fat with short hair and glasses was super rude and had a terrible attitude. I came to drop off my rental around 8 AM and had another reservation for 10 AM. When I asked if I could pick up my next car a little early, she literally started yelling at me to "put the keys in the drop box or wait in your car until 10." I even told her I'd pay extra to get the car early, and she just said, "I don't care," and kept being rude. There was no reason for her to talk to me like that. I've rented from plenty of other companies, and they've always worked with me never had an issue. But Avis? Completely different story. Never again. read more

My husband called AVIS located at South Bend Regional Airport at 574-234-1024 to reserve a SUV to be picked up today at 10:00 a.m on September 13th. He was told the rental would be $698. He received a confirmation email from Budget during the call. On September 16th his card was charged $698. Today he arrived to pick up the rental, he was told they see the reservation; however, it's not paid for. He called customer service for his credit card and was told $698 was charged by AVIS. I called customer service I've been hung up on and transferred to many people without resolve. The last person I spoke with at 1-800-218-7992 had an oh well I don't know what to tell you attitude. I asked her don't she think she should notify upper management as it appears someone is intercepting your companies calls scamming your customers. She didn't care. We received a receipt from 7upcarrental.com. It also showed an email address for outgoing@safewebservices.com. When I googled email address 7upcarrental.com it says the email address belongs to AVIS. I would also like to add the young lady at the airport location said she would hold our rental while we try to sort this out. My husband told her he would come back with a different card to pay for the rental. She gave our rental away. The vehicle was being rented for my birthday trip. Don't rent from AVIS! If you need a rental Enterprise every time... At the beginning of December I made a reservation for an SUV to accommodate a 5 passenger round trip from IN to VA. However, I later amended that reservation (at least 10 days prior to departure) to accommodate 2 more passengers. When I arrived to pick up my vehicle I was given a 6 passenger SUV, no option to upgrade or reasonable accommodations. Simply take it or leave it with a significant price increase from $494.99 for 8 days to $781.54 for 7 days. I spoke to customer service on 3 separate occasions in an attempt to get a larger vehicle or a reduced price and ended up making the trip with one of our kids sitting on the floor. To boot, when we returned the vehicle AVIS decided to charge an extra $250 cleaning fee bc there was pet hair in the vehicle. I have attached a picture of what the inside looked like. Suffice to say the vehicle was returned in better condition than the lobby of the Avis storefront. All in, we paid $1000.00 for a vehicle that didn't fit our needs. Oh yeah & we got the damage protection, which translates into "I could have totaled the vehicle, returned it on a flat bed truck & spent less money." I'd advise this route if we ever rented from them again. read more

Absolutely awful service from Clara the desk agent. Rude, unhelpful. When we finally got our car (no thanks to her), there was an oil maintenance light on and no snow brush in the vehicle (despite the snowy winter weather). I had heard that Avis at this location was to be avoided. I try to be loyal to this company, but will go out of my way to avoid using Avis when traveling to ND. read more

We are having a horrible experience with Avis. They accused me of not turning in the car on time. I did. When returning the car at the airport, there is NO ONE there to check you in. You have to drop the keys in a large, secure metal box. There is no rental receipt given to you at that time. Now, we have been billed hundreds of dollars because they claim I kept the car for 5 extra days. I did not. They are making us come up with a ton of documentation to prove I returned the car, as if I am lying. One thing they really want is my boarding pass. Why on earth would I have the boarding pass from a flight I took weeks prior? I called American and they sent me a receipt showing that my return flight ticket was used. I sent that to Avis, but that was not good enough for them. Instead of checking into their mistake, they are making us do all the work. I have made countless phone calls and have sent numerous emails with documentation. They are very slow to respond. I am livid. It has been over a month and we are still trying to get this resolved. IF you rent from them, BEWARE. Document everything. Use a credit and not a debit card. Take a photo of the odometer at the start and end of your trip. Unfortunately, they can not be trusted, they do not own up to their mistakes, and they will not investigate problems. read more

I reserved a vehicle way in advance for a specific time. I expected it to be ready when I arrived. There wasn't an agent anywhere to be found. Another agent from another rental company had to find someone. But when the guy finally showed up, my vehicle was not ready. They had zero cars cleaned and ready. I had to wait over 30 minutes to get a car. When I finally got the vehicle it was dirty in and out. It had yellow road paint down the left side of the vehicle. The drop off was just as disappointing as picking the vehicle up. You can tell they hadn't touch any of the returns for the day because they were so backed up. Went in to return my keys the line was long and the one customer they were helping had to run back to the car to get something so the agent wouldn't help anyone else until the other customer returned. I just dropped off my keys and left. I probably will not rent from this place ever again. Very disappointed!! read more

Don't rent from Avis. They are deceitful. I reserved my vehicle online with the understanding/impression, all I had to do was sign the agreement and take off. That was the purpose of reserving online. I declined coverage online when I reserved the vehicle however when I returned the vehicle I noticed my charges weren't what was quoted to me online. When I inquired about the price I was told when I picked up the vehicle I signed for the coverage; although the agreement was not explained to me in person, so I'm thinking my decline online was still in effect. When I called customer service, I was told the same thing. Now I'm out of 80$. I have never experienced this with any other car rental company before. Never again will I use Avis. read more

I prefer zero stars for this complete disaster. I pre-paid six weeks in advance for a Chevy Suburban and they gave it to someone else. No refund and no help from Avis Customer Service. Avis airport staff was completely unprofessional and deceptive. I would avoid the SBN Airport location completely for any car rental because there seems to be plenty of collusion going on between agencies. read more

DON'T RENT FROM AVIS! Even though we paid for coverage, when my husband, newborn, and I slid into a snowbank in their car, we were essentially left stranded, given misinformation multiple times, and never followed up with. Avis's insurance package is supposed to cover collision, damage, roadside assistance, and a replacement vehicle, if necessary. When we called Avis Roadside Assistance, they told us it would take over an hour and to go with a state trooper who offered his help. The trooper got us towed to a local lot, and we got our baby to a safe location. We immediately called Avis to report the location of the vehicle and inquire about a replacement. For the rest of the evening and the next morning, we were misled by Avis representatives who said a case had been created and that a replacement vehicle would be sent to our hotel. We even received text ETAs that a replacement was on the way. We waited and waited. Two hours later, the manager at the South Bend airport location informed us we would not receive a tow OR A replacement because the damaged vehicle was considered impounded and couldn't be investigated over the weekend. Can you imagine how frustrating this was to a family stranded in a small town with limited supplies for a newborn baby, without access to transportation they had already paid for and where a cab ride of 5 miles was quoted at $45 dollars?? In addition, my husband missed a business engagement! We ended up renting a car from Enterprise just to get out of there and get back home. Avis never offered a solution nor sympathy. We ended up out of $700 and Customer Service claims the most adequate response they can think of is a $40 gas credit. Shameful and insulting!! read more

This is the worst customer service I've seen. I was billed $170 more than I was told at the desk. When called back I was told I'm sorry the gentleman at the counter was only in his 5th day. When I picked the car up it smelled like everyone went outside and smoked in it. The worst experience ever at a car rental. Would recommend using another service at the South Bend Airport. read more

I reserved a minivan through rental car.com several months ago for a family vacation to Florida. We were quoted around $500 for 10 days with unlimited miles. We knew we would be paying an extra $65 for an additional driver. When we went to pick up the minivan we were told they didn't have any available and upgraded it to a XL ford expedition. She had me sign a paper that said estimated cost and milage $572. After our vacation. We returned the vehicle with a full tank of gas and 45 min early and they charged us $731. When I asked why the cost was different they told me with a minivan or larger vehicle only comes with 75 miles a day then charged .25 a mile.when I explained to them it was suppose to be unlimited miles I was informed that rental car.com was wrong and they wouldn't except the agreement with the internet quote. I ended up having to pay the full amount. When we picked up the vehicle they knew we were driving to Florida and no one even mentioned to us the policy regarding milage. They just kept telling me I signed the paper. Yes the paper said estimated cost and milage $572. But then they pointed out the small print that said .25 per mile. I really felt they took advantage of us by never mentioning there policy and that they do not honor the reservation Contract through rental car.com. I will never rent a car there again. read more
