Do not rent a car from these people! I reserved a vehicle through my Costco travel app. When I got there to pick it up, they charged me $200.00 more than what was quoted to me. When I asked the woman at the front desk , she stated plainly "security deposit". At which time I asked if that would be refunded once I returned the vehicle. She stated it would. No where in my paperwork did it say anything about a security deposit; I reluctantly agreed. I returned the vehicle on time, with a full tank of gas two days ago. The $200.00 has still not been refunded. I called today and they told me that it can take up to two weeks! TWO WEEKS!!!! I told them this was unacceptable, that this was not communicated to me.. they said there was nothing they could do. Looks like now I'll have to dispute it with my bank. read more

SHADY! And totally unprofessional. One of the only times I've written a review and wished I could give NEGATIVE stars. I made a reservation through Costco Travel. I had just rented at the AVID in San Ramon two weeks ago and had no issues. My Father dropped me off at this location and left as I assumed there would be no issues. I asked the dark haired girl (in her 20's) at the front if I could have my choice of a car in the category I was renting. She kind of laughed and said, 'no you're getting a Toyota Corolla'. Ok then. She asked for my license and credit card and explained they would have to run my credit (apparently Equifax can run credit using your debit or credit card?). Extremely weird and not really cool I thought but I was in a hurry and had to get moving as I had to get to work. She scanned my card and said they denied it. 'What the hell' I thought? She asked for another card. I gave her another debit card and she scanned it. She said it was also denied and that she was not able to rent me a car. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! I thought there must be a mistake. I told her I have over 750 credit, paid off all of my credit cards and have enough to buy a couple of their cars and that this is completely wrong and well, insane. Have never been in a car accident. How in the world can they conduct their business like this? If this is how their ridiculous system works you should not be able to make a reservation without their little bogus credit check. And they would for sure not be getting any business as people don't want their credit score dinged for renting a car and having to have their credit checked. Thank heavens there was another car rental place across the street and I was in and out in five min and got my rental with no problems. I think the worst part was how insensitive the girl was at the front. She had NO sympathy and could care less of how much of an inconvenience this was for me. Their system is bogus and shady in my opinion. I tried calling the corporate office but just got someone in another country. He said something odd- he said that he looked at that location and there were no vehicles available to rent so maybe that was the reason. The staff is friendly enough and I got a decent rate to rent a car for a work day trip. However, the car I rented literally had the bumper popping off every time I parked and in general it just had a weird smell. I might have been able to overlook that but here I am, standing on line for the last 20 minutes waiting to return this car while ONE clerk is serving a line out the door close to their closing time. He's called for back up 3 times and no one is responding. To add insult to injury, they have an Xfinity sales rep in the lobby giving everyone a pitch. Pros: -- The desk agent who did the rental agreement paperwork was an extremely pleasant individual. Cons: --Being stranded on a mountain road with a non-functioning Avis car on a hot summer day with no water. --Being put on hold and bounced around by phone reps from Avis's "roadside assistance" 800 number on a hot summer day with no water. --Being told by an Avis "roadside assistance" 800 number subcontractor that no help was coming, only to be transferred to another agent who said that help was coming, only to be transferred to a completely different agent who said no help was coming and then hung up. On a hot summer day with no water. --Calling Avis "roadside assistance" back for the sixth time, after more than six hours already spent on the phone in sweltering summer heat to check the status of roadside help only for my phone battery to die (granted, phone battery life is not Avis's responsibility, so definitely bring multiple power banks when renting from Avis--they'll keep you on hold till your Anker power bank fades away). --Watching my elderly mother display symptoms of serious dehydration (which resulted in hospitalization) as the soulless corporate Avis phone reps treated me and my family like a nuisance. --Being sent a bill from Avis for almost $200 for "roadside assistance" (even though no assistance ever arrived). Word to the wise: take lyft and/or uber and cut your losses. The mental aggravation of dealing with a company like Avis is not worth any financial savings. Their business model stinks and I regret ever doing business of any kind with them. It's not just about how they might have "done better" on that particular day with my particular problem. It's also that they truly made me feel like I was a nuisance to them and then slapped me with extra charges for something (roadside assistance) that never arrived, that they never provided. This is the definition of adding insult to injury and we need to vote with our feet when it comes to large companies like this. If you have no choice and end up with an Avis car rental, bring: --Lots of water and food and preferably a tent; warm clothing if it's winter (Avis WILL leave you in the cold) --Medication: you could be stuck for days on end --Lots of extra battery power for your phone (you will be put on hold--if you have a solar charger that will help morale as you endlessly wait) --Evidence of AAA or any other reliable roadside assistance that is not a nameless subcontractor of a subcontractor. You will need to fend for yourself out there in the world, as Avis subcontracts everything. If you don't have AAA, make sure you have lots of money to pay tow trucks. --A backup car with a backup driver who can follow you wherever you go --If you're religious, a Bible/Torah/Koran/Holy book of any kind because Avis will literally stand by and do nothing if you find yourself in a perilous situation. read more

Shawn and Neil have been at this location for years. Every time a customer of mine gets a car from them they are treated with courtesy and respect. Recently I needed to use some moving blankets for a few days to protect some auto parts. It was great to have such nice neighbors let me use a few for the time I needed them. Reservations are always preferred with rental companies. That's the one thing you can do as a customer to help them plan when you need the car. We reserved an economy car for our long awaited Christmas vacation and were very disappointed when we ended up with a Ford Focus that was very sluggish, had black vinyl sticky seats, and a faulty automatic door lock key-among other undesirable features. The key was bent when we picked up the car, and the clerk mentioned that he couldn't get it to work, but then the manager said he "tapped" it to straighten it out. It gave us problems by tripping off the car alarm in the middle of the night at our quiet hotel multiple times. Then the transmission went out in the car and there was no manual to tell us how to add fluid. It was so bad that we couldn't drive it to a local Avis to pick up a replacement and waited 3 hours for a tow truck to bring us another little death trap. The roadside service said they had a 2 hour window to deliver us a replacement vehicle according to our contract. I wonder what will happen when we try to get a refund for the day of missed family celebrations while we sat at a Lowes parking lot waiting for the tow truck. Most of their cars have seen better days. I think its best to go to an airport for a better selection. read more

The rates were unbelievably low due to the time of year (Fall), and the car, a KIA, floated as I drove. Loved the experience and would use them again. Great for longer trips if you don't want to use your own car for whatever reasons, in my case, way more room and cruise control, but also if your car is in the shop as mine was, also, for a couple-three weeks. Make sure you have your Driver's License and Credit Card, not Debit Card. If you have a Debit Card, they will have to run your Credit Report each time you rent. BTW: I rented from BUDGET, which seems to have a symbiotic relationship with AVIS as I could not find BUDGET separately listed at Walnut Creek location to review on YELP*, so my experience was NOT with AVIS, but with BUDGET. BEWARE! HOWEVER, if you call ANY of the BUDGET RENTAL STORES and they are on the phone LOCALLY, the phone system automatically shifts you over to their NATIONAL CALL CENTER--the info will be the same and you can make a res through them, also. read more

Have been here twice to drop off one way rentals and had fast friendly service both times. 2nd time they even credited me back $6 for extra gas i filled in a car that was checked out with 1/2 tank. Also cleaned up water spill in trunk without any complaint. Only reason I cannot give a 5th star to any local branch is the more limited car selection but rate the experience here A+ in all other aspects. Avis by far out of all the rental car agencies is the hardest to work with. They have the worst Customer Support I've ever experienced out of the rental car companies (they should take lessons from Enterprise). I've had lots of issues over the last couple of years but here is my most recent example. I rented a car via the app and using my profile. For some reason my preferred number wasn't in my reservation. After several calls to Customer Service they won't add my preferred number and they are saying it's because of new Covid restrictions. The reason I have a preferred number is to be able to skip the line and go directly to my car. The line at the airport for no preferred customers is an hour and half (which is an entire other issue). How they can use Covid as an excuse to not be able to add my preferred number is an insult. This isn't that complicated. Family was thrilled I came home with such a large car. I wanted to make sure that I leave a review for this location that accurately reflects their operations, and operations of rental car companies, in general. As previously mentioned, the management of this location is "top-notch". Sean has personally helped me with numerous rentals (mainly on the Budget Truck side) when I needed assistance when it was not provided by the corporate offices. If Avis constructed a better loyalty rewards program I would rent from this location more often, but unfortunately Hertz is better and I am left dealing with an absolute waste of a location in Walnut Creek that doesn't provide ANY sort of respectable service. Couple notes: the Avis location does not provide a ride service so please keep that in mind. Also, they rarely pick up their phones so a stop in is advised as opposed to spending time trying to call them. Last week was my first time reserving a car online and to pick it up at the location we normally go to in walnut creek. She seen I've already paid everything. Now, she was giving me unnecessary charges that wouldn't show me on a written paper and telling me extending the vehicle is 120 a day. deposit 300. I'm like, whatever alright. When I returned the rental, the guy who checks the car, barged in and instantly said, "you didn't put gas" I told them I put 50, go back and look.
