Until the end, the experience was decent. However, I went for the full package and paid for the zero responsibility option. The top of the truck was damaged during our move, and they called me from corporate to demand payment. Apparently, even though the contract explicitly states "I have selected the zero damage waiver, I am not responsible for any loss of or damage to the vehicle", there is some other language buried deep in their agreement (which I don't believe came with the rental) that the top of the truck is not covered. I refuse to pay for it, of course, and will never use Budget Truck or rental cars again. No other rental company does this. read more

I've rented from this place twice and the only disappointment is that their shuttle couldn't pick me up at opening because it doesn't start until 9:00. They were the most flexible out of all car companies that I checked in terms of adding a second driver (no charge) and allowing us to take the car out-of-state for our road trip. Made a reservation last week for a moving truck. Fast forward to today (24 hours before pickup). I get a call saying they don't have the truck, and they don't have any other truck and don't know when they might... Maybe in a week maybe not. Customer service was horrible. Basically they cancel on me last minute before my move, stressful to say the least. I call corporate customer service to see if they have another location with a simular truck. I was told they will check and call me back within two hours. No one called back. Don't waste your time, use another company that has better operating procedures. I only used budget because of Costco membership discount. Now I see other bad reviews for company as a whole. Don't waste your time and save yourself the stress go with Uhaul or Enterprise for truck rentals. Also if you cancel they want 48hours notice or you are charged $75. But they can cancel whenever without repercussions. Other services guarantee rental or they owe you $50. read more

One of the other reviews (from May, 2012) said that: "...this place is run by incompetent people. Their customer service skills are non-existent." I totally agree. I would never, ever rent from them. I've used Hertz in Walnut Creek before when my car was in the shop, and compared to Budget, Hertz is extremely professional. I have no connection to Hertz, just a satisfied customer. I had to drop off a friend at Budget over the summer so she could pick up a car and drive to a wedding in Tahoe. The place was deserted, no other customers, although it was mid-morning during the work week -- bad sign. The guys at the desk were not dressed professionally like the folks at Hertz, but were in their grubbies, like they were expected to work on cars when there were no customers. This wouldn't have mattered, except they were also clearly bored, not to mention annoyed at having to be at work, and were intent on communicating this to the customer in any way possible. Whispered inside jokes the customer couldn't hear, followed by giggles, and arch looks, sighs, raised eyebrows, and rolling eyes. Who knows what that was about? Who needs it? We're not their oppressors, we are their customers. Without us, no job and no pay. Duh? read more

First, forget about trying to reach this place directly, They almost never answer their phone. The phone forwards to the national center. Second, forget about using a debit card. They do a credit check and even if you have great credit, there's a good chance you're not going to get a car rental. Plus, doing a credit check dings your credit. They can't even check your credit until you are actually renting the car so it will be a surprise when they tell you they don't want your business. Third, this place is run by incompetent people. Their customer service skills are non-existent. If I had known about the debit card issue, I would not have wasted my time with these guys. After getting denied a car, I went over to Enterprise and got an even better car for less money and they had no problem with using a debit card and there was no credit check. Lastly, this place doubles as a Hertz rent a car as well. Yes, this is a franchise and is run very poorly. My advice: go to Enterprise instead. read more

Didn't meet a certain requirement for renting, which for some reason they could not notify me of UNTIL I showed up at the rental location. They could however charge me the full amount well ahead of time for the car that they couldn't give me. They also could not refund me on the spot. They gave me TWO 800 numbers to call to try to explain the situation in order to get my money back. I'm sure that will be another delightful experience from Budget. Now I'm left completely out of options and completely screwed. And to add insult to injury, I wasted $40 taking uber over and back. So dissapointed in their system and entire process of doing business. I'm never attempting to rent from any Budget location again. Thanks for nothing, guys. read more

This is for Budget as a company. I had reserved a truck for my move, the night before I was to pick up my rental truck they call and cancel saying they don't have ANY trucks in Northern California. We shall see if they refund my money without that being an issue. I'm unbelievably angry and want to say thank god for uhaul who was able to rent me a truck for tomorrow. Budget is a joke. I reserved a moving truck 2 months before my move. They call me less than 24 hours before to tell me they don't have a truck for me. I already hired movers. Called around for another truck and Penske and U-Haul said they get calls every day from budget customers that have the same thing done to them. Ended up having to pay about 3x the price of what I reserved through budget for since it was so last minute. They offered me a 30 dollar check "for my troubles". Go somewhere else and don't risk using them. read more

The girl at the front desk was great and really nice. This review isn't about her since it wasn't her fault but about Budget itself. Had a reservation for a truck, showed up and they informed me that they did not have a truck available. This was the only day I could move since my lease was ending and it was extremely frustrating. I wish I read reviews on here before since it seems like this happens often. Was able to get a smaller truck which in the end costed way more by having to make multiple trips. Will not be using again and not reliable for moving needs. read more

Shawn was very helpful. Recommended I take out full insurance coverage and that was smart because I did need it unfortunately. It's not worth it to drive one of their big trucks without paying for the full insurance with no deductible. I barely touched another bumper, but with such a big truck did damage to car (not truck). read more

We rented our truck today from this gentleman at the front desk. Made our reservation a week ahead and when we got there, he greeted us nicely and had our truck ready to go. I wish I could remember his name but he was very nice and went above and beyond to make sure we got out of there as quickly as possible. I would 100% recommend this location(Walnut Creek). I tried to rent a car using my Debit Card, which their policy allows and we have successfully done many times, before. This time, however (for some reason), after I went all the way out there, I was told that my credit was inadequate to rent there unless I also had a major credit card. My credit was good enough to buy a house, recently, with no trouble, but rent a car for 3 days? Apparently not. Yeah, so if you don't have a credit card or credit that Warren Buffett would envy, don't bother. Take your business elsewhere. They will unapologetically waste your time. I doubt that I will be renting from Budget again. read more

I have rented large moving vans many many times in the past, but this was definitely the most pleasant (and easy) experience ever! I highly recommend this company for any of your moving needs. DO NOT RENT A TRUCK FROM BUDGET I had made a reservation to rent a truck on Friday through the Walnut Creek office and they had assured me my truck would be available for pick up on that day. On Thursday, I received a call saying that there are no trucks available in Northern California and to use another rental service. So they left me to the last day to get a new truck without the courtesy of telling me earlier in the week and no apologies. Very unprofessional, and awful customer service. if you want to wait till the last day to find out that a truck you reserved is now unavailable and they can't do ANYTHING contact Budget! read more

This is a review of Budget in general, but this is the lot we started from. We were assured that our truck was "the most mechanically sound truck on the lot". However, it threw a bearing during the second day of our move. After being stranded on the side of the highway for _7 hours_ it took Budget another 24+ hours to get us back on the road. Once we unloaded the old truck and reloaded the new truck (with little help from the crew that showed up an hour late) it was only 25 hours until the transmission went out on the second truck. After calling customer service and FleetNet time after time, we have still not received a new truck. It has now been about 22 hours since the second truck broke down, in a city where there are _6 budget locations. Overall the mechanical soundness of Budget's trucks is nil, and the customer service and roadside assistance are abysmally incompetent. No matter how this situation resolves we will not be renting from Budget again, and I would advise you against doing business with them. (There have been a few helpful representatives, but they all seem severely limited by the infrastructure they are operating within). read more

Great Rental Experience for my Move. Shawn was both humorous, professional and accommodating. After hour drop off was smooth. I had a charge for blankets I did't receive, they are going to credit, I forgot the tank wasn't full at pickup and was offered a disc. if I did return full, which I did in error, and they honored the small disc. Was just a hair from full. Moving was stressful enough. I needed something to go smoothly and this did.. Kudos to Budget..Walnut Creek!! read more
