DO NOT RECOMMEND. I rented a car here for my girlfriend 2 weeks in a row so she could get back and forth to work while we were shopping for a new car(her old car died). The first week everything was fine, I booked online and was charged exactly what I paid when I booked. The second week I booked online again and everything seemed to be fine. Two days later, when checking my bank account I realized I was charged an extra $64??? I went back this morning to get an explanation and the owner told me it was for an additional driver? I never drove the car either week, just paid for it. He stated that the previous weeks rental I was given a "freebie" on the additional driver. I told him that was confusing and he agreed, but did not refund me or offer me a credit. Overall a very confusing and poor experience particularly regarding one person paying for a rental for someone else to drive. I would've rented another car from them this weekend and possibly the next depending on how the car search goes, but I will now be going elsewhere. Came here to book a car for our juander Mt. Rainier adventure. It was a smooth transaction until my husband pick up the car on this location. The woman who he talked at that time of the pickup was a bit soury and gave my husband an attitude. Telling us that they don't have the car available on the price that was advertised. And while doing the paperworks her brows are still meeting up and won't even smile or talk. We can tell that she is just in the perfect ruined mood. Really awful service we had from her. When we returned the car after two weeks, this other woman is the opposite vibes from the first that we encountered. Totally the friendliest and the kindest. Even greeted us upon entering their office. Most of all she was very grateful for returning the car neat and spotless from the first time it was given to us. We got the Prius car and the car did a good job throughout the trip. Saved a lot of gasoline which is so expensive at that time. Will surely consider this hybrid car renting the next time we juander. We rented a car at sky harbor air port. No one showed us the ins and outs of the car. Once we arrived at our hotel the key fob did not work. Unable to lock/unlocked or open trunk. Before I knew the fob didn't work I locked the car using buttons. I was unable to open the car. I tried calling customer service. Took an hour to get someone knowledgeable. I was told about key in fob. Also told fob needed battery. Went to local avis office. They did not help me. I am not able to lock the door, since unlocking is difficult. Had to pre-pey for the vehicle, then they wouldn't refund the pre-pay. "Paid for five days, only needed two? Sorry chump, you paid for five and that's it. No refund for you" Well then fine, give me back the keys for the remaining day that I've paid for. "Sorry, you returned the car, no keys for you." So, my car was needing some work and I tried to rent. I was charged and everything. I had my confirmation and everything was looking on the up and up. So we went to go get the car, and the door was locked. This was at 10:15 mind you (I was late actually I had a 10 AM pick up time- Uber was late picking me up.) ANYHOO so the door was locked with a "Please call this phone number" sign... which was CLEARLY the associates phone number. My wife called stating that we made our reservation for 10AM and no one was in the office, the lady stated that she was "15 minutes away" A gentleman who was at this location well before us said, "Yeah I called the number, she said that half an hour ago." My wife called the number again, and the lady had stated "No cars have been returned" Which was absolutely NOT true. I saw no less than 5 Avis cars (Including the one I was reserved for- I saw the bar code on them) But apparently I was fourth in line. How would you know that if you are clearly driving, or out of the office and NOT in front of your computer. According to my wife, she did NOT ask for name or reservation number. When we told her we HAD TO GO! Because we had a time sensitive obligation, she said "Well you can ask for a refund with customer service" I called, but no action has been taken yet on their part. I will be calling my credit union on Tuesday if by Monday I am not refunded. Long story short. I was CHARGED for a service that was NOT PROVIDED TO ME. Do not use this location. The woman working the counter at 10am on 6/9/22 was extremely rude and deliberately obtuse. Independently owned or not, you still are a business. There is a picture of a woman on the plexiglass but that was not who was at the counter I dropped the car off 2 hours early and was unable to dispute fuel charges -they claimed I had a full tank when I most certainly was given the car with only a half tank. But I couldn't call customer service because they needed to use the car "immediately". I returned it at 10 am and the car was due at noon. And I obviously can't dispute erroneous charges before I know they Exist . How is the car to be used immediately? Do they not clean them? What car were they going to use if I had waited until noon? The idea that I can't dispute the charges specifically because the car is for someone else is using the car BEFORE the car was even due doesn't make sense. The car was due at noon. I was early. Did they think I came early to argue? I was early so clearly getting gas wasn't an issue as I had plenty of time to get it before. I should have had time to dispute the charges as well. I can appreciate that corporations have some policies that aren't entirely logical sometimes but kindness goes a long way. She was purposefully rude. read more

Beware, this location is exhibiting fraudulent behavior. Like others, I experienced a rate change between the time I picked up the vehicle (they seemed to have changed my rate when I left the office) to when I returned it. Luckily the person who helped me at the return location was able to fix the overage and credited me over $180. I've used Avis a lot for business travel and I typically receive good service, but this one location is a bad apple. Service was terrible from the get go and is NOT up to par to the typical Avis experience that I am used to. I highly recommend that you save your time and hassle and skip this location. Prices were bizarrely high this weekend- which is both move-in weekend for the local university and a holiday weekend, Labor Day. Not sure why the Avis prices were so high, but we needed a car to get our university student around town and moved in so we paid the 8:00-4:00 daily rate today. We arrived right at 8:00 am but didn't drive away until 8:25 and just barely got to an 8:30 appointment. There was only one person working and a bunch of customers. The attendant was great- we could hear him vacuuming our car on his own and he apologized for the delay- but there should really be more staff, especially if they are going to charge a crazy high rate. We returned our car on time, by 3:45, same attendant still working, great guy. Adequate experience. Car worked great, was clean, functional. read more

Terrible business, don't use them for any reason, EVER! We rented a Nissan Rogue from them in Florida after our flight was canceled for weather reason, they said it was fine if we extended the rental dates to drive home. Then we hit snow and found out in 17 degree weather in Kansas City that the heater didn't work (making the car unsafe not only to drive because of frost but for our infant) so we took it to the office there, we swapped the Nissan for a Mitsubishi Outlander with a working heater and got a new contract to drive it to WA. Keep in mind this ordeal also took forever because the Orlando, Florida office didn't actually do the paperwork to extend the rental dates... so WE HAD TO do a new contract. Now the WA office wants to charge us $370 more than what The Kansas office told us. Keep in mind the car is absolutely fine, no damage, we took great care of it, it's about the travel distance even though we told both the Florida and Kansas office where we were driving to! We have been waiting here for over an hour trying to get this fixed. It's a total freaking scam, you will have nothing but trouble with them and when their employees make mistakes it's never their problem. I promise you, if you use this company you are going to have nothing but issues just pay the extra money and use a different service!!! Their customer service is terrible, so if you are military and need to be back by a certain date, DO NOT USE THEM! They did not have my correct phone number and the owner/manager, Felicia, told me their customer service often enters a generic phone number in the system. She said there was nothing she could do, had no idea when a car would be available and there was nobody I could talk to. Nicest people EVER! Our Budget rental had a flat tire and there was an issue with the spare. We had to leave the car on the exit ramp. Our tow truck driver gave us a ride to this Avis/Budget location. Within 10 minutes we had another car & were on our way. So friendly & nice. Beyond a doubt one of the rudest humans on the planet working the counter on the morning of Feb 21st, 2022. First, nobody else was in the lobby so she wasn't overly busy. After my dad and brother were inside for 20+ minutes I decided to go see what was taking so long. Turns out she was trying to upsell my 80-year-old father with scare tactics for everything from insurance to roadside assistance. Now I get that's how they make money so it's annoying, but not worth writing a negative review about. But when she was rude about the decline I spoke up. To which she replied, "I'm not talking to you, I'm talking to him". I explained that my dad didn't make the reservation I made it for him and he doesn't want the insurance or the roadside assistance. I also asked if they'd added my brother as a driver. She then informed me that it's an extra $12/day. It shocked me and I said that I had no idea about that charge, to which she lectured me about her history in the car rental business. So I looked up Budget/Avis policy and it turns out if someone is handicap there is no charge to add an extra driver. My dad is handicap and that's the reason my brother was driving and we'd like to fill out the form to make sure that happens. She was not happy about that and continued to lecture me, give me dirty looks and then disappeared into the back. Another man came in to return a car and she was extremely rude to him. After she gave us the paperwork to add my brother as a driver, she helped the nice gentleman that came in after us and returned to us to let us know she was "upgrading" us to a Prius. Wouldn't be my first choice, but she told my brother it was a better car. It wasn't a better car. When we got to the car, my kid said it smelled. It did smell, like marijuana! We brought it to her attention and she said, "Well I don't smoke so I wouldn't know". I don't smoke weed either but I know what it smells like. All we asked is that she noted it on the paperwork so we didn't get in trouble for it. She basically was dismissive and rude about that too. Took nearly an hour to pick up a car that was already paid for and reserved. The only good news is I called Corporate Customer Service and they refunded a discount because of our experience and the fact that we reserved a full size car and were given a mid size car. This woman has no business working in any job that requires interaction with the public. We will NEVER rent a car from that location again. read more

The Service Rep Joyce was professional, competent, friendly and knowledgeable, even with a line of people, she gave every customer outstanding customer service and was efficient. I returned my car and he charged me an addition $50 for cleaning that obviously fell under "ordinary wear and tear" when I asked to speak to the manager he said "I'm the manager!" The experience I had with Avis Lakewood was truly zero stars. My husband is in the military and needed a car for our vacation. He told the lady at the counter that things might come up and he might have to return the car at a different location. He was told Avis understands the challenges of being a service member and he should not worry. After returning the car at a different location (in Tennessee), he got a bill from Avis Lakewood that had a $750 fee on top of what was agreed on. We tried to speak to the lady at the Lakewood, WA location and did not receive anything but lack of empathy and consideration. No no nooooo... Booked a car 3 days in advance, and because I've done this many times, I called to confirm the reservation. Everything was okay then right? Seemed like it, but the day of pick-up I'm told that they don't have a vehicle in the class that I had reserved. But they would be happy to give me a car for an extra fee of $80. This wasn't going to work for me and their excuse was to book 24 hours in advance, in addition to my call to confirm the rental. Great, so I'll just come back the following day and a car should be available, right? Wrong. The next day there still wasn't a car available even though I had now confirmed my reservation for 2 days in a row and one of these was IN PERSON. This time the service rep Justin, was both rude and unhelpful. He offered no apology and no other rental besides a $100 upgrade. How did I go from an extra $80 for 2 more days, to $100 for just one? Finally day 3, after complaining to a manager, I was able to get a car - still not the one I reserved, but at least this one came with a free upgrade for all the difficulty. Bottom line: don't rent here. You shouldn't have to complain to receive decent service. And Avis, you shouldn't be renting cars from this location if they're not available! read more

I had the worst experience ever at Avis located at 632 Broadway, Tacoma WA! When I arrived at my scheduled pick up time, which was 8am, as I pull up, I see that the store was still closed! There were four other people waiting outside for the store to open. 20 minutes later a woman walks up to unlock the store while she's carrying a newborn baby! By now there are nine of us waiting. She gets situated, lets us in and I wait my turn and finally get up to the counter. As she is taking down my information to process my rental, a customer walks up and places their return keys on the counter and walks out. She says to me "one moment" and leaves the store to check in the returned vehicle. She just left her baby alone behind the counter with other customers in the store! There were no other Avis employees but her. But it gets worst! She comes rushing back in to finish helping me and then the baby starts crying! She spends some time trying to get the baby to stop crying and soon as it does, the phone rings! Rather than putting them on hold, she tells me to wait! She gets off the phone, finishes processing my rental and let's me know that she's going to bring the car up front. She leaves her baby alone behind the counter again! I meet her out front and notice that the car has a large amount of sticky stuff on the driver side window, possibly from the retail tag that was peeled off. She tells me to just run it through a car wash and she'll reimburse me, then runs off. Wow! It took me less than 5 mins to clean the window with Windex and a bit of elbow grease. This lets me know that they never bothered to try to clean it! Horrible, horrible, horrible! I cleaned the outside and inside thoroughly, considering that it's COVID. Did I get reimbursed? No. That woman lied to me! I called Corporate and filed a complaint but I'm sure nothing will happen. I'll get over a bad car rental experience, because hey, it happens. My main concern is for the safety of that newborn baby! This is just unacceptable. read more

I have rented from at least two dozen places and most of the car rental companies out there. Avis rent a car in downtown Tacoma (Broadway) is by far the best place from which I have ever rented. Management and staff are wonderful! They are upfront about all costs and do not try to pressure you to "add" things that you don"t want. Even when they are extremely busy, everyone is kind and helpful. Hands down, their cars are the newest and cleanest from any company I have ever rented from. They go out of their way to provide excellent service and if someone needs help because of some type of disability, they are more than willing to help out. I would recommend to anyone that a rental with Avis Broadway in Tacoma is an excellent choice. Keep up the GREAT work Russel and Avis!!! You guys are the Best!!! read more

Because I commute on I-5 (parking lot of the PNW!) and was worried about being back by 5pm to turn in the car, she arranged it so I could turn it in by 1pm the following day without any additional charge or late fee. VERY much appreciated! I'd deduct a star due to the car being dirty (some crumbs and coffee stains), but add it back because they are open on Sundays when no other car rental place is! In addition, I ordered a supercompact tiny thing and ended up getting a good sized car. read more

Ben checked me in quickly with no gimmicks and Jedidah walked me around for the vehicle inspection. Both were polite, professional, and friendly. I would definitely rent from these folks again. DO NOT use this location! Rent from another office! I rented/prepaid via their website. The pick-up went fine. I was upgraded to a nicer vehicle. When I got back to town 1 1/2 days later, their office was closed. We could not find a night drop (it's standard to have in these days, is it not?), so I parked the car in front of the Budget office and made arrangements to come back in the morning to hand the keys to someone behind the counter. Next morning...I commuted an hour to turn the car in. Due to an unplanned house guest, the ferry schedule, and delays due to a mudslide on Schuster parkway, I was a little late, but by less than an hour. The associate was on the phone when I approached and placed the keys on the counter. Once off the phone, he picked up the keys and starting typing. No greeting. He tells me that I will be charged an extra day because I brought the car back late. I told him that I don't think that is fair since the car was actually parked in front of their office all night...and that was the last full sentence I was allowed to say. In an argumentative and condescending way, I was told that "it is right on the door" that there is no key drop, and "it's not my problem you're ignorant". I told him he is not authorized to charge my...he interrupted with "I'm charging your account". I asked to speak with the supervisor. He said "there's no one here". I told him I have all day and told him to call the supervi...He butt in, "you call." I asked for the number, and he rattled it off too fast to key it in. He repeated it upon request, but it was a fake number. I tried it twice. I was hopping mad by now. I reminded him that I am not going to pay for another f-ing day and that I am refusing to leave until I speak to...he interrupted again and threatened to call 911. I sat down and conducted a Google search for the real customer service number, then realized that I will probably want the rental agreement, which I had left in the car. I retrieved the agreement, and got in my own car and left while waiting for customer service to answer. Corporate Budget took good care of me. I explained what happened, and what was said, an they assured me that they do not condone his behavior. The district manager was going to be contacted. They refunded me the cost of the extra day. Given how I was treated, I could have pushed for more, but all I wanted was not to be charged for something I didn't use. I may use Budget again because the corporate office handled it the right way. But I will NEVER use this particular location again. I would rather pay more and go out of my way than be demeaned and disrespected by an abusive young man on a power trip. read more

Terrible customer service and terrible product. I reserved a car here from the Costco website. The car delivered to us was completely filthy. There was even numbers from a greased pencil written on the window. I spoke to the only person working there and he said that I would have to wait an hour for him to wash it. He said they don't have wash bays. He would have to Windex the outside. I asked if he could offer us another car or at least take off money so I could go to a car wash. He said his manager would not allow him. I was in a bind, took the car, drove it home, came to my senses and drove it back. A total of 1 hour. I was charged the entire day. I spoke to the owner/manager. He did not offer an apology for the original state of the car or try to work with me in any way. I was late because of traffic on I-5 and she stayed open an extra 15 minutes for me so I could return the car. We got a standard rental, but it came with free XM radio and leather seats. I rented a car from this Avis car rental and probably had the rudest people to deal with. When I first went in, they were pretty good. I wanted to rent a car for a week because my vehicle was in the shop for some body work due to an accident that wasn't my fault. I went back in to rent the car again for another 2 weeks and was told I had to fill it up with gas first. I told them I was going to be using it some more but they told me I still had to fill it with gas. I told them that I would fill it with gas and then probably rent from someone else. They told me if I wanted to rent from someone else, that would be fine. I filled the car up with gas but by this time my wife had to get to work so she took my pickup. I had to locate someone to follow me to the car rental place so I would have a ride home. I got there late and they charged me another days rent on the vehicle. That was the first and last time I will rent from Avis. Totally dissatisfied with them. They acted like the could care less if I went somewhere else. They also only had 2 cars to choose from.
