Worst experience. Pre-paid for a vehicle to be picked up at 12pm. They call us at 11:50am to let us know there's no car available right now, they said they would have a car ready for us by 3pm. By 3:30pm they didn't call back, so we called. They said there was still no car and that they would call back by 4. They did not call back again. By 5pm, we checked the hours and it said they were closed FOR THE WHOLE WEEKEND. They didn't even call back to update us about anything. Absolutely do not rent from here. (I rarely make bad reviews but this was so traumatizing bc we are not from this state and don't know our way around here) we were left with no car for this vacation. DO NOT RENT FROM HERE! Rental pick up reservation was 4pm on a Friday. They had given the vehicle I reserved (an SUV) to someone else. My options were: pay extra for an upgraded vehicle, wait for them to clean another vehicle (they close at 5pm and had sent the cleaner home at 4pm), or take a less expensive vehicle (basic 4 door) with no refund/discount. Fine. I rented the 4 door. It was a tin can but whatever. Gas gauge was at 3/4 tank, and I returned the rental after fueling to 3/4 a tank. I just looked at my emailed receipt. They charged me an additional $23 for refueling!! I called Hertz to complain and request refund. Their process to debate a refuel charge, requires you to email your gas receipt to a specific email address. They have a whole "press XX for refuel dispute". WHAT A RACKET! read more

Never again. Please invest one minute of your time to read this. I promise it is worth your time. First, Google search "Hertz car theft". These absolute parasites had hundreds of their customers arrested because they couldn't find their cars and they reported them stolen. Some people got thrown in jail. Think about that. No call. This car rental company can't keep track of its own cars, so the customers suffer the consequences of arrest, time in jail, and criminal charges on their record. And they're getting away with only paying $168 million. They are a company with $2.5 BILLION in revenue. So their fine is less than 6% of their annual revenue. They are laughing at everyone. They shouldn't even be in business. However here's my story. And it's really pretty simple. I rented a car for 2 days. The charge was $30 per day. On the second day I decided to extend it for one day. I understood that the charge for the third day would be $52 plus taxes and the insurance that I put on it. They reverted my contract and charged me $52 for every single day. Thus stealing $44 from me. Is it much money? No. But think about how many people they do this to. Think about how much they are defrauding their customers out of? Remembering that they have their customers arrested falsely for theft, and knowing that obviously nothing is beyond them. When I got in touch with someone at corporate level, I was told that they had every right to do this because I changed my itinerary and that it's in their T&C(terms and conditions). At this point I was furious. How in the world is this even possible? I had a contract that was even PREPAID! Again, I have no problem paying the $52 plus whatever fees for the third day. I understand that. However, how do they get away with rewarding loyalty by overcharging for something that was already paid for? And the whole time they have your card information so they can do whatever they want? Beware beware beware. This review is more about the corporation than the local, but the local is no better. They didn't have the car i reserved, nor did they bother to call and let me know that they didnt have it, which they are suppose to do. The guy gave me 2 options i could take a mini van, OR take a mini van and exchange it next day, DESPITE there being more cars availble on the lot. See photos. I asked if i could take a red charger that was up front and he said that it needed repairs. And he said the other cars on the lot were unavailable. Bologna! A mini van takes up way to much gas, and is harder to park in the city, which is where i would be driving it. Also i dont have time to be refuling and exchainging cars, thats takes away time from my day. Regardless of the reason i didnt want to mini van or wait a day to exchange it he shoulda upgraded me to any of the other cars on the lot. See PHOTOS. Do not resolve issues when physically at the location as well as calling in customer service and kept getting incorrect numbers. I was given shirt insurance even though I did not request for it and when I tried to remove it, no one would pick up the phone for like three days after having the vehicle and then charge me for three days of having the insurance which I find unacceptable. They told me my rental was $156.07 for three days. When I tried to return it on Saturday found out they were closed at noon. Very frustrating... reserved a mini-van in March for use in July. All confirmed. Get a call today, 2 days before our rental was to begin, "Sorry there's been a large group of folks in town renting all our vans" so we don't have one for you. Told the employee "So, making an RSVP, almost 4 months in advance, means nothing?" Her response of "sorry" just doesn't cut it... Hertz your actions speak much louder than you words and advertisments... You don't care about committments (RSVP's) which means you don't really care about your customers! Be prepared to spend more money than you expect. Made a reservation over a month in advance for a road trip down through Oregon, upon arrival the day of, they informed us they didn't have the category of car we booked, and wanted to switch us to electric, which would not work for us given the amount of time we'd waste having to charge up every 200 miles, nor the guarantee that there will even be charging stations in the middle of nowhere. Our options while we were expected to be hitting the road were to either cancel the reservation and be stuck without a car, or pay extra daily for an upgrade. Ended up having to pay $100 extra from what our reservation cost was because they were completely unprepared. We shouldn't have had to pay extra at all given it was their fault that they did not have what we booked, and gave us no heads up before we arrived. Make the extra drive and go to the airport to rent a car, it will save money you in the end. read more

My car was in an accident and while I was not at fault, I started the claim process initially with my insurance company, while negotiating with the other driver's insurance company to take over the entire claim, including the car rental from Hertz. Within two days, they did take over the entire claim (they agreed to cover all expenses 100%) and this included the billing for the rental. I gave Hertz all the new claim information, including the claim adjuster's contact information and they told me the rollover would be simple. My car was supposed to be ready on August 6th, but the repair facility needed an additional week to complete the work. They were preparing the paperwork for their approval to complete the job (which was approved that day). I also called up Hertz and told them about the extension. I confirmed that they had all the correct claim information and asked them to follow up with the claims adjuster. The conversation ended with them telling me that they would contact me if there was any kind of a problem. These lowlifes NEVER followed up with anyone and instead just started to bill me directly. Worse, they never got my authorization for anything and then just processed the bill without even advising me that they were going to do this. They just billed it against my bank account.and took the money. In other words, they just processed a payment without notifying me or the insurance company, which left me with little to no money in my account. Worse, if they did contact me about this discrepancy, then it was a very easy thing to fix. So what do these lowlifes do? THEY THEN DECIDE TO KEEP THE MONEY THEY BILLED FOR WITHOUT ANY AUTHORIZATION AND THEY WILL NOT REFUND IT UNTIL AFTER THE CAR IS RETURNED! THIS IS AFTER THE INSURANCE COMPANY SPOKE WITH THEM! There is a name for this kind of unethical and disgusting behavior. IT IS KNOWN AS THEFT! I just found the withdrawal from my account and that is all! Who knew I was in the business of providing interest free loans to Hertz! REPEAT, THIS IS THEFT ! Lack of professionalism does not even begin to cover this kind of deceit! I pre-paid to reserve a car with Hertz and they charged me several months in advance. Despite having pre-paid, Hertz (predictably) did not have my vehicle in stock. The new vehicle they offered was substantially worse, had a chipped windshield. Further, even though I clearly notated this on the vehicle damage disclaimer, the scummy rental car rep tried to pin the damage on me when I returned the car. Thankfully, I had the damage slip and was able to prove that I didn't cause the damage. I'm still waiting on the $450 that Hertz has yet to refund me for the difference between the two cars. I've had to call Hertz several times to get a response and they have still not been able to assist me. The company has incredibly deceptive business practices (paying up-front for a vehicle you will never receive and then being out the money when they give you a substantially worse vehicle). Worst customer experience ever. I was charge over $400 for a rock chip in a windshield, which would be fine if they ever notified me of the damages and the charges but they did not. They just decided to sneakily charge my credit card and I didn't notice until I got my statement. A very snarky, arrogant woman by the name of Tracy was very belittling and patronizing to me when I called to inquire about it. Talking down to me and when I asked for her to send me documentation to my email she never did. Horrible horrible place to rent from, my fiancé's insurance is covering a collision we had and needed a rental car our insurance CAN COVER ! The lady in front didn't even greet us or acknowledge us what so ever then finally look up saying you ready? I gave her my info and she totally shut us out!? Why is 1 star the only option? These folks need negative stars. THE WORST company EVER!!! The staff sucks, I spoke with Cheryl who is the manager (a shitty manager btw) and who hates her job or is just bad at it. IDK. Either way, called to tell me my car reservation that I made well in advance was not going to take place because "she has no cars and doesn't know when she will have one". She then suggested I called her Manager, Mark, and or start calling around to other Hertz in the area to find myself a car. So basically do her job. She was not helpful, did not care, and refused to help. Her manager was a joke, once I spoke with him, he got sick of helping me and ghosted me. They overcharged me, did not have the correct vehicle size I reserved and the Olympia office was even worse (imagine that). If I was not moving out of state and needed a car, I would have used someone else. The car was disgusting, the check engine light was one, and it needed oil. I usually get the best service here. Then, Tuesday as I went to pick up my gold reservation car, the wait was 30 minutes and the two employees seemed overwhelmed. When it was my turn, the service rep explained that they came from other branches to be open in Tacoma that day and were doing their best to help everyone. He even gave me an upgrade for waiting. Hertz hooked me up with a rental while my car was getting its dings fixed at the collision center. They worked out all the details with the insurance company, they called me a week before my car was to go in and confirmed my rental. The best part was when my rental car AND a Hertz staff member were waiting for me, 7:30 AM, in the lobby of my collision center (and may I say the folks who were waiting for the OTHER rental company's staff were still, ahem, WAITING...). They've been overly reliable. I didn't have to do anything except for sign and go! AND thanks for letting me rent a VW Beetle; it was a FUN 2 days! If I ever rent a car for any other reason, I'd go to them in a heartbeat. read more

I made a reservation and then when I got there they said they didn't get a shipment of cars so there was nothing available for me. The employee was very rude and did nothing at all to help me find a car at another location, etc. All he ever said was, "I don't know what to tell you". Seriously?! I called the corporate number to find a car and received terrible customer service there too. I explained the situation and was told I'd be given a call back within an hour with a car, but had to call them when they never called back. When I called back, I found that my reservation and all my information had been erased from the system as if I never existed. It's even worse to pretend to help me and then just delete everything while I wait around in a city I don't live in without transportation. Suffice to say I will never attempt to rent with Hertz again. I cannot believe the level of disrespect I was shown as a customer. If I could give a zero star rating I would. Issue with the rental from day 1!! Long story short electric vehicle rental was not charging at charge points. Called roadside first rep didn't know what the hell she was doing, (also expected me to drive 104 miles to SeaTac when I only had 74 miles of charge left), second rep was able to help get me to a charge point to get some charge to get back to my hotel. Second day of rental I had to drive out to SeaTac international airport to exchange, SeaTac is terrible as well!! Pulled up to the return bay no one was there except people who drive the vehicles away, sigh says go to the 5th floor, at the 5th floor they tell me go BACK to the 3rd floor to the "box". Waited 2 hours to finally get an exchange well more then half the time I was explaining my issue which the reps there had no remorse or compassion and kept being rude and helping others well I was at his counter also stating they can't process an exchange until he finally asked a manager. Finally I was in a gas vehicle that gave me no issues but already wasted the 2 days I had the rental! I couldn't do anything that I had planned this weekend. Upon returning the vehicle the next day I advised the female rep that assisted me of the terrible experience and all she does is laugh and states "a customer the just returned had the same vehicle and they love it!" Umm yah I'm not that person and I advised you all upon pick up I have NEVER drive an electric vehicle. The rep offered no compensation or anything all she did was give the fake "I'm sorry you had a bad experience" gave me my receipt and smile and gave me my receipt! I see that there are more negative reviews on here than positive but I want to share my experience. I reserved a car through Priceline and didn't check reviews first and if I did, honestly I probably would've looked elsewhere. I rented a car Thursday due to my car going in the shop for a few days for some minor repairs. Snow decided to start falling and I took the rental out on Friday to get some dinner before too much snow came down, that's when I got rear ended. I exchanged information with the guy who hit me and filed a police report. The car was drivable and Hertz was closed for the day so I had to call in the morning. Ian was great, patient in hearing my frustration and gave me plenty of options for me to choose to try to drive in the now heavier snow to swap out cars for a different non-damaged car or wait until Monday. I opted for Monday and then let me know that although they're not open until 0800, I can come earlier if need be as he gets there at 0700 on Mondays and could help me. I was really impressed with his compassion and helpful customer service. I don't who others have worked with here, if they've corrected past bad behaviors, but so far, I'm impressed and thankful for good customer service provided by Ian. (I don't give 5 stars usually because there's always room for improvement, so this gives them room to grow!) read more

The only reason I'm giving this company 1 star is because I don't have an option to leave 0. My boyfriend was in a car accident and the insurance company set his rental up through them. A couple days after returning the vehicle he got a $350 charge on his debit card without any notice. They claimed it was for a cleaning fee which confused me because when he received his renal it had a couple weed containers in it and was not clean in the first place. Stick to renting from Enterprise where the customer service is great. read more

This is my favorite hertz location my last trip they didnt have the mid-size sedan so i got the toyota avalon. It made the trip so much nicer having something just below a luxury class car. It was also priced quite well even with the 200 security deposit that i got back at the end of my trip. If i were to complain about any part of my experience it would be that i did ask for the pre-paid gas but mistakes happen and it wasn't add. read more

I saw that this Hertz location had 2 stars and I thought "how could a car rental place be that bad?" Well, now I know. My husband and I had scheduled a pick up. When the car didn't show up, I called Hertz and the employee said she'd send a driver on over. No apology or any acknowledgement that they'd screwed up. Our house is a short drive from the rental agency, 5 or 10 minutes tops. An hour later, the driver shows up and calls to let me know she's out front. I go out and get into the car. Not only does she offer no apology, but she says nothing at all! No greeting or even a "how are you today?" I'm not a chatty person, or a fan of small talk. My expectations and personal need for good customer service is pretty bare bones. But this woman almost seemed put out by having to come and get us. When we arrived and went inside another woman was on the phone. She looked at us but didn't offer even a basic gesture she'd be with us momentarily or even a smile acknowledging our presence. Then the other woman (driver) came in and again, neglected to mention the fact that we were picking our car up over an hour later because of Hertz. We got the keys to our car and left. Once in the car we both remarked on how off-putting the entire situation had been. We are Hertz gold star members, but I suspect these folks are quite egalitarian when it comes to providing shitty customer service and that even non-Gold star members can expect the same abysmal treatment. Maybe this review should be 1.5 stars because the car had both a working engine and four wheels. That was nice, and a bit of a surprise given everything else about the experience. I came to Hertz on South Tacoma way. I had a week prior rental reservation from the auto body shop who was servicing my car. Through the liable parties insurance my rental reservation was 100% covered minus the security deposit. The auto body shop called hertz ahead of time, to let them know that I was on my way in and when I got there, the insured car I was sent to pick up was not there and instead they tried to up charge me based on the vehicles available in the lot. I refused to pay any difference and had to ask them to go get the car that I qualify for. I was there over an hour because the staff was unprepared and wanted the pathetic attempt to upcharge me. This is my second experience here in four months, and I have to say that no matter who attends to your needs everything goes smoothly and professionally! My vehicle is always ready and clean, they explain your reservation and make sure that you are not dealing with any additional fees or surcharges! I even made a reservation for three months out and was given a better rate due to early booking! I would highly recommend this location, convenient to the airport for pick up (avoiding high taxes) and the option of airport drop off is great! I will be back! read more

I called like a week prior to needing the rental. Told them what I wanted and for approx how long. I was having some repairs done to my vehicle and the insurance company told me to use Hertz. . I waited 30 mins for them to pick me up from the repair shop. We get to the facility and she was going to rent me an Equinox. I had requested a Nissan Sentra. The Equinox was filthy. Could barely see out of the windshield. I told them I had requested a smaller car. They had 2 Sentras on the lot--1 expired tags, the other a dead battery. Then they proceeded to offer a chevy malibu with a big ding in the windshield. I proceeded to wait. Finally 2 hrs later someone brought in a nissan sentra . they did a quick turnaround and I left with that. This place needs more people to work there and a wider selection of cars (especially when you tell them what you want and they agree no problems. Totaled my car and this was the one only companies that was partnered with my insurance that wasn't booked out. Made an appointment the day before for the following day. I get there and they say they are saving there cars for renters that aren't being helped by insurance first, then later in the day they would give out there cars to renters. That alone was a red flag. Luckily a renter had just showed up from out of state and I got there car. So I was happy, and I rented an suv for the day, no issues. BUT, I had to learn a lesson the hard way which is: ALWAYS TAKE PICTURES OF THE ENTIRE CAR AND I MEAN EVERYTHING BEFORE YOU DRIVE OFF WITH IT!!! I drop off the car at the end of the day with a full tank, and of course I don't get a receipt from the gas station because I didn't think I would get charged a gas fee!!! Of $32!!!!! This was recent so if anyone that works for hertz see's this i'm open to resolving this and I will take this review down, but all I have as far as proof of the gas is a picture I took of the machine that shows how much gallons you got and how much you paid, but no paper receipt.
