This place had good reviews so we decided to try it. Located in a cozy street of small and boutique shops. Parking is easy street parking. We come for lunch around 2pm on a Saturday and it was not full. They do have Middleastern music in the background but a nice hearing level which doesn't interrupt conversation. Simple restaurant but minimalist tastefully decorated. As soon as we came in we were greeted, walked to our table and Tea and Water was brought to our table. This restaurant is from Iran so they had typical dishes from that country. A lot of them have a base of yogurt, so it is not Vegan friendly, except for salads and the Veggie Kabob. We ordered a Chicken Kabob and Slamon Kabob. Both dishes came with rice and a small salad. Everything was very tasty and portions were reasonable. Chicken was so soft you didn't need a knife to cut it. Salmon melted in your mouth. Food was super fresh. They do take their time cooking it at the spot. The food reminded me of restaurants I have visited in North Vancouver as there is a large Persian community over there. The eggplant dip was tasty. The kebabs were flavourful and juicy with some nicely presented rice, a grilled tomato wedge and a bowl of salad. Service was alright. Staff stopped by to refill water and tea a couple times. It took a bit of time for the food to show up as it was made to order. My only complaint is there were no beef kebabs options on the menu. All the kebabs were made from lamb or chicken. I rarely write one-star reviews because I understand how much effort business owners put into running a restaurant and building a good reputation. However, our experience at this restaurant was so disappointing that I simply can't overlook it. We were a group of seven people who had reserved a table in advance. Due to an unexpected issue with one of our friend's children, we arrived 20 minutes late. Despite the fact that we could clearly see empty tables inside, the staff told us to stay outside in a rude and insulting manner simply because we were late. It was upsetting and humiliating, especially since it was a long weekend and we had made plans to enjoy a nice time together. Two members of our group approached the manager to complain about the unprofessional behavior of the waitress. Although the manager did apologize, and we decided to proceed with our dinner, the situation didn't improve. Another waitress served us, and her attitude was even worse--she looked angry the entire time, didn't even attempt to smile, and carried herself as though she was waiting for a reason to argue. The lack of basic courtesy and warmth was shocking. About food: Kashk Bademjan had a nice presentation, but unfortunately, no flavour at all. The Lamb Shoulder was nice but poorly cleaned, with a very unpleasant piece of lamb skin still on it. We will never return, not because of the food but because of the terrible customer service, which seems to be their lowest priority. In my opinion, the staff lacks the basic qualities required to work in the hospitality industry. Today was the perfect day for some heart warming food! While it was snowing outside, we sat at this cozy little restaurant where the ambience was calm and the atmosphere friendly and welcoming. We ordered: - Grilled eggplant dish with flat bread = $9 - Lamb shank with rice and salad = $21 - Vaziri (chicken and ground lamb kebab) = $25 Total bill with 18% tip = $68 for two people All the dishes were delicious and I love how the kebabs are served on a wooden slab/board. We loved the eggplant appetizer that came with the beautiful fresh bread. The kebabs were moist and flavourful and the shank was just tender and yum! The humble tomato and cucumber salad tasted so good with that sumac! The hospitality was fantastic. The place was clean and they followed proper covid protocols. It's no wonder they are doing so well, the place was quite full tonight. Our only constructive feedback was that the wait time was to long. It took about an hour for our mains to arrive but we didn't mind too much because we had a delicious appetizer and were engaged in a good conversation. Stop 3 - Avishan Authentic Middle East Grill Langley, BC - February 6, 2021 The third stop in our adventure is once again in Langley, this time at the Avishan Authentic Middle East Grill. We arrived at noon and noticed that quite quickly the regulars came in, filling up the small restaurant. We knew they were regulars by the familiar greetings exchanged. Of course all the tables are spaced out a la Covid rules and everyone wears a mask until you are safely seated. From the place mats and music to the beautiful little glass tea cups that showed off the lovely color of the saffron tea, you just knew you were in for a truly authentic experience. The owner greeted us warmly and was so generous of his time in explaining his menu and proudly told us how he makes his one of a kind Saffron tea with saffron from Iran and that we can be assured you will never find this quality of saffron in any other place. The food is Iranian and was presented on a wooden board. It was all impeccable. Georgine had the Chicken Kebab and Barg ( a lamb tenderloin) the meat was seasoned and broiled perfectly. It was served with rice so fluffy and so pretty with a sprinkle of saffron rice on top and then topped with pomegranate seeds. Along with a char grilled tomato. The salad was Shirazi salad, similar to a Greek salad but yet very different and no cheese. It was absolutely refreshing. Deborah and Sadie had the Chicken Kebab and Koobideh (a kebab made of seasoned ground lamb) with the same rice, salad and tomato. They both agreed that the ground lamb kebab was the favorite for them. We have to say that this place had it all and I know it is our third place we visited and so far we have given the other places 5 stars for food. This experience is beyond that. It was so enjoyable. Honestly, with the aromas that were flowing out of this spot I thought for sure this was going to be epic, flavourful and fantastic. Instead, we waited 30 minutes to be woefully disappointed. They were cooking a catering order, so it took 30 minutes for ours. We grabbed it, practically sprinting to the park to dive in. It's fine. We needed some salt. More pita. Easy to find street parking, nice part of Langley, polite service and house made baklava, which I am excited to try! Okay, I got my to-go order faster than promised, food came neatly packaged and in a cloth to-go bag. I needed plastic-ware and they quickly and kindly provided. Got to my destination and finally got to try the food. OMG!!! So good!!! The baklava was the first thing I tried, just a little bit of a huge piece -- it was tender, sweet and oh so yummy in a can only be homemade sort of way. The kebdeha was tender and flavorful, rice was perfectly plump and separate flakes, the side container of onion, tomato and cucumber added the perfect balance of fresh flavors to compliment the warm flavors. When we arrived there without making reservation, fortunately, the waitress told us to wait for ten minutes for the next available table in a tiny restaurant. However, the waitress was so friendly and warm and distributed teas to the four of us. Both of us ate the excellent Persian tender boneless chicken kebab and grilled lamb ground kebab called Varizi while my spouse and "daughter" ate excellently-delicious lamb kebabs served with soft moist white/yellow Basmatri rice. As of ambiance, its atmosphere was warm and welcoming to the outsiders as we liked the wooden tray served with the food for the authentic Persian dinner. The owners were extremely friendly and helpful, so if you are not familiar with Persian food, they will help you figure out what to order. Everything is moderately priced and the food is delicious! He explained to us all of the items that we had questions of on the menu and even brought us samples of things to try when we didn't know what they were! There was a drink called Doogh...meant to be had with the meal...it is a slightly salty, yogurt based drink topped with mint! I LOVED it! Paired with the kabobs it was very good! They make their own bread in house and it is very tasty with the dip that they brought out with it! The Meals were AMAZING! They looked beautiful in presentation and they tasted even better!! We ordered family style so that we could try a few different entrees and they were all so good! All served with Rice, Shirazi Salad, and Grilled Tomato! How did we not know it's been here for almost 2 years? After we were seated we got served a cute glass of saffron tea which was a nice touch. My husband chose the lamb neck and was very happy with his choice. I had the Koobideh (ground lamb kabobs). They were so full of flavour and so juicy. It was also served with a tangy fresh tomato and cucumber salad and fluffy rice topped with a homemade middle eastern butter and some red berry like things. We will definitely be coming back. We went to the Aveeshan restaurant in Langley with our family a while ago, A friend had previously introduced us here that his food is good and ... After we arrived, a lady who worked there came and said, "Because you did not book in advance, it is not possible for us to give you a table. I saw some of the tables were empty. she said they were reserved and some of them should be empty because of the covid-19 protocol." There was two people table and I told her that for my wife, my little son and I the mentioned table is enough and my son only need a chair, she said no, it is not possible, but if you want you can stay until the table is not reserved beforehand, maybe we can give it to you! !!! At one point, about 45 minutes later, we were stuck with a 3.5-year-old my little son and in fact, because we had driven 50 km to Langley, It was difficult for me to accept that I would drive 50 km again without lunch and go back to North Vancouver to choose another restaurant. after 45 minutes, a lady came and told us that your table was ready and Unbelievably I saw it was the exact a table that was empty 45 minutes ago at the beginning of our arrival and they didn't let us to have it under the pretext of having a covid-19 protocol and so on! I told her respectfully, mum you disappointed us with this service. If you wanted to give us this table. Why did you delay us for 45 minutes in these conditions? She told me in an incredible manner, If you are upset, you can go !!! I told her, we can go ?!!!!! Doesn't a moment of our delay here with a little boy matter to you? !!!! What a bad restaurant. We came in and not only was it a small cramped bare bones restaurant without any pleasant decoration to speak of, several tables were filthy from people that had dined there before with nobody attempting to remove any of the used plates covered with scraps of left behind food and food spilled on the table. Then we sat down at an undersized table more suited for a cup of coffee than a meal. The menu was incredibly limited compared to any Persian restaurant I had recently dined at and the items were crazy high prices for such a drab low end joint like this. The menu had coffee but no tea. Desserts seemed totally boring. Selection was very limited. Nobody came by to set our table, bring water, take our order, or anything, especially not cleaning up the nearby dirty tables. It was unbelievable how unappetizing this place was with fundamentally no effort to provide any service. The people who I guess work there were either checked out or talking to visitors for a long time instead of serving any of the customers. There also seemed to be other people just there not doing anything in the kitchen or in the back. Nothing was appealing about this restaurant and we left. We didn't even eat there and we stunk with our clothes smelling terrible for a couple of hours afterwards. Their ventilation is poor too. So unprofessional. It's shocking they have such high reviews in Yelp. Either the area is that starved of good Persian restaurants, or the reviews are by the restaurant team and their friends. If not I just can't figure out how there are such high reviews. Nothing I saw justified them. Yuck. Terrible experience. read more
