We came here for Christmas dinner and were blown away by the food and ambience. We ordered the fried eggplant dip, spinach yogurt dip, and shirazi salad to start. All were delicious. For the mains we had the Vaziri (koobideh and joojeh) and the Akbar Loghmeh. It was the best koobideh I have ever had. The rice was also cooked perfectly. We enjoyed the music and beautiful decor. Akbar Joojeh is a gem! Recommended to us by locals, it's unassuming from the outside, but the seating area is cozy and vibrant. The vibe is casual but warm, and service is friendly and fast and they're wearing cute ethnic clothes that match the vibe. Portions are huge for the price, and everything tastes homemade in the best way! You should be able to split one meal with two people easily! Unfortunately we had no idea this place is known for their joojeh (grilled chicken), so we didn't get it. Also didn't know you should order some dips with the free bread. We got beef and chicken kabobs - very juicy and tender with a nice flavor. Also got the Chicken with Plum Stew that has a nice flavor and the chicken was fall off the bones without being dry - even found a few plum seeds, so it's definitely real plums. Everything came out really quick since some are ready-made, but you wouldn't be able to tell. It's a great spot whether you're dining in or grabbing takeout. There's a lively vibe/atmosphere and the space is filled with bright, welcoming colors. Service was also top notch and the overall experience was fantastic. The menu is quite extensive, but the Akbar joojeh is what they're known for. Roasted Cornish game hen with a salty, crisp skin and flavorful meat. The hen was a little drier than expected, even though we asked for it to be juicy and moist, but the flavor was spot on, especially with the pomegranate molasses. Koobideh and joojeh were also cooked perfectly and I could've eaten a whole bowl of the mast o moosir. They have wide range authentic Persian foods, great ambiance and service , I suggest booking in advance, the prices are higher than other persian restaurants however their quality is if not the highest is one of the best. Akbarjoojeh 19th in Vancouver a solid 10/10. The Joojeh Kebab was incredibly juicy and full of flavor, and the Koobideh Kebab was just as delicious. The Tahdig was perfectly crispy, and the rice and bread were both excellent. If I had to pick something to skip, it would be the half hen, while it was good, the kebabs definitely stole the show. Don't come here if: Atmosphere and Environment are important to you, as it is quite cramped and requires some cleaning. Also, the service even though friendly they can be overwhelmed, and you as a table may feel the lack. Do come here if: You want to try exotic and creative Persian dishes with a twist. I actually thought all the dishes were quite good (see pic.) Yeah....I enjoyed all seven dishes...with the exception of one little yogurt, which I'm sure felt out of place as no one really went for seconds from it. The service was friendly and they tried to keep all tables happy as they were packed and had a line up out the door on a Saturday evening. Oh....and one thing...they don't serve tea and deserts on the weekends. Not serving tea in a Persian restaurant is like....not serving wine in an Italian restaurant....so, some room for improvement. Omg, the best lamb chops ever!!! Melt in your mouth tenderness, flavorful, and not tasting game-y/lamb-y taste. So delicious! Also had the sour beef, the yogurt drink, and the marinated olives. Everything was so delicious. It is a beautiful venue with fun music and lively. The staff were friendly, quick, and very helpful. When I asked for more pomegranate sauce, they brought it to me. I was so impressed with the food. The menu is a book with photos, and descriptive descriptions of the food for someone who is not aware of the food. My daughter and I had lunch here recently on the recommendation of a friend. I got violently ill from food poisoning shortly after eating here. Was on a trip to Vancouver and had heard about this place. We were a group of four, one couple ordered a platter with koobideh and chenjeh, to share. I ordered the chicken and plum stew, and my partner ordered the dill rice and osso bucco. We also ordered an eggplant dip and the famous Persian yogurt drink called dough. The food was fantastic, delicious, juicy, big portions. The ambiance was nice, service was fast. The only issue we had was the lack of dinnerware. The tables were co close that it was tough to pass through to get to the chair. We've been longtime visitors to Akbar Joojeh in Vancouver, especially on weekends when our family comes up from Seattle. We have three young children with special needs, so dining out requires a bit of planning and care. We usually look for a quieter table where the kids can feel comfortable and not be disruptive to others. Today, I called ahead and kindly explained our situation, asking if it would be possible to reserve a table. Unfortunately, I was told they don't take reservations -- no exceptions. I was disappointed by the lack of consideration, especially after explaining that our children can be a bit loud and that we simply needed a suitable space to make the experience smoother for everyone. Because of this, we had to change our plans last-minute and went to Cholo Chicken instead, where they not only accepted our reservation but were extremely warm and welcoming. We've always gone to Akbar Joojeh for the food -- which is excellent -- but good food should come with good service. As restaurants grow in popularity, I hope they don't lose sight of the hospitality and human touch that build lasting relationships with customers. We had a visitor from LA so we decided to have a dinner at Akbar joojeh since i heard lots of good stuff about them but didn't know they had a new location few blocks from the original and since they didn't had a table big enough for us we had to go to new location.When you walk in the restaurant looks beautiful with unique decorations and very colourful but the service was absolutely unacceptable,asking for a water that never came until we had to ask again after a long time waiting,mistake on order and again long wait for a correct one i mean so long that we all finished our food and of course shared with my son who was still waiting for his food so he just asked to pack his food to go.There was 10 of us there and we all were so unhappy with the service,the food was ok not as good as the original restaurant because couple of people had the experience with the other restaurant.I was disappointed since i had such a high expectations from the reviews from the other place thought it should be the same but it wasn't. read more
