For me home audio and video stuff is all about relationships. I haven't visited in a while but I called and it sounds like they are under new management. The person I spoke to seemed very knowledgable and down to earth, and willing to give me time to figure out the project on my side. This company is an absolute disaster. I called them in for a simple diagnostic, and somehow, they managed to make the situation worse instead of better. Their operational manager, Eric, was not only completely incompetent but also unprofessional, sexist, and ageist throughout the entire process. From the moment he arrived, Eric was dismissive, condescending, and full of excuses. He refused to listen, made me repeat myself multiple times, and constantly asked the same questions--proving he had no idea what he was doing. Instead of taking responsibility, he kept deflecting, blaming the issue on things we had already addressed. When I told him that new wires had already been purchased and installed, he completely ignored that information and suggested we buy new ones anyway. Beyond his technical incompetence, Eric's behavior was outright offensive. He made sexist, ageist, and degrading comments to both me and my boss, repeatedly bringing her up in completely irrelevant conversations. At one point, I had to tell him to stop speaking about her altogether because his comments were completely unnecessary and inappropriate. His ego and arrogance prevented him from admitting he didn't know how to fix the issue, and instead of working toward a solution, he made the problem worse. To make matters even worse, Greg Furch, the CEO, has ignored all of our calls and texts. We were promised a simple diagnostic, yet after Eric left, multiple rooms were down, including the relaxation room, and the issue had escalated instead of being resolved. He then had the audacity to claim we needed to buy a $600 part and even broke something himself, promising to pay for it but never following through. This situation is completely unacceptable, especially on a critical business day like Valentine's Day, when we rely on music to enhance our client experience. The system was working before Eric got involved, and now it's a complete mess. In my years of handling operations, I have never dealt with such unprofessionalism, incompetence, and lack of accountability. Eric belittled me, ignored crucial information, and made it clear he had no real expertise in handling the problem. Instead of helping, he caused damage, wasted time, and left us scrambling for a fix. This company does not respect its clients, does not stand behind its work, and refuses to take responsibility. If you're considering hiring AV Works, DON'T. Their lack of knowledge, poor communication, and outright offensive behavior make them a company I would never trust again. Wonderful experience. Visited shortly before Christmas to find the place quiet. I was impressed by the inventory I found. A lovely gentleman came to assist me in finding what I needed to enjoy the gift of wharfdale speakers my dad sent me. He was happy to answer any questions I had and willing to experiment with me to find answers he didn't know immediately. I ended up with more than the amp I needed (which fit perfectly within my budget). I was able to upgrade my turntable as well, which comes with their guarantee for quality. If I'm in Davis County when I'm ready to upgrade again, AVWorx will be getting my business. read more

I wanted to like this place. It's local. I wanted to support someone brave enough to open an A/V specialty shop these days. Having sold audio in a past life, I remember positive feelings of the good old days of selling Hi-Fi equipment and I also remember the negatives. I'm sad to say that these still exist at AVWORX. I talked with them when planning a basement theater project. They put together a system that I mostly agreed with, but it wasn't anything that a little research online couldn't have replicated. All of the component prices were at or above online prices but the kicker was added sales tax. To me, it made no sense to purchase from them when I could get a much better deal online. The places I bought from will fully stand behind the purchases, so there was no reason to pay a premium locally if there was no added value. AVWORX recommended spending $800 for 3 HDMI cables. I did my research and found that HDMI either works (you get a picture) or it doesn't (you get no picture or obvious snow in the image) - there's no middle ground. Don't let anyone tell that nicer cables have a 'sharper picture'. When asked why these cables are better than a nice, much lower priced, Monoprice cable, the response was "peace of mind". Sorry, that sort of magical-mythical AV sales tripe may work on the uninitiated, but not on the educated. This was a process for me. There were a lot of unknowns in my project. Part of me wanted to just have someone else handle it. But every time I returned to AVWORX, I kept getting the feeling like "I know this stuff better than they do, I should just research more". As I whittled down the project more and more, AVWORX became more belligerent saying that they normally don't just do small jobs. That gave me the final push to do my research and install things like my in-ceiling speakers myself. They turned out great. In the end, I was left with enough of a bad taste in my mouth to actually go online and write this review. Bottom line: If you have money to spend and don't know a whole lot about A/V, they want you as a customer. If you're smart and want a nice system, you really should use the internet to help you along. It can be a little daunting, but communities like avforums.com can help a lot. You'll save a ton of money and have the satisfaction of building something yourself. read more

I feel lucky to have lived so close to this place. The customer service is unbelievable. They let me demo products at my house and I eventually configured the ultimate sound system for MY ears. I'm sad that I'm moving out of state soon. Gonna miss AVWORX. read more

Horrible customer service. Called to ask about replacement parts for my audio system and they tried to upsell me on every component. When I told them the parts I had previously used served their purpose just fine (audio-technica, which are quality parts at reasonable prices), the salesman condescendingly told me that their "typical customer" is one who doesn't care about price and further continued on his snobby sales approach for the more expensive parts. Additionally, when I mentioned that I might check another store, he tried to guilt me into purchasing "local." I'm all for supporting local small businesses, but not the ones who try to bully consumers into purchasing more expensive products than they need. I'm definitely avoiding this "local" business and telling my "local" friends who all have more than enough discretionary income to be their "typical customer" to do the same. read more
