Such a wonderful massage experience! I was looking around for a nice massage for my husband and me, and I was so glad to find Awaken! I booked everything in Vagaro, and it was super easy to schedule our couple's appointment. We arrived earlier than our scheduled massage a waited a little for our masseuses to be ready but once they were, my masseuse, Jenny led us to the room. My husband got Jaimison. Both Jenny and Jaimison was excellent. We haven't gotten a massage in so long cause of our busy wedding schedules and traveling, and forgot how tense our bodies were. We started working out more so our bodies have been more sore with more knots we were unaware of, until Jenny and Jaimison started massaging us. They were able to get areas on our shoulders, back, and necks that we were aching in. Overall, the massage experience was excellent!! We really enjoyed our relaxation time and felt so nice after. I'm sure their massage experience is great based on the positive reviews below. But we unfortunately didn't get to experience that. My partner and I booked a couples massage online and selected two female therapists by name due to a prior negative experience with a male therapist. When we arrived, we were assigned one male and one female. When I pointed out the discrepancy, the front desk said, "It's fine, we don't have two females. It's dark anyway" even though I stated I was uncomfortable. I was then told I could wait 20 minutes for a female therapist. I agreed and waited outside while my partner stayed in the room. About few minutes later, staff returned saying there was no female therapist and no room available, despite previously saying otherwise. Because of the confusion and a dinner reservation, we decided to leave. As I went to get my partner, staff changed their story again, saying two female therapists would be available after all. No one could explain why this wasn't checked or communicated upfront. During the conversation with the owner Jun, we found out that our originally selected therapists were reassigned to other guests without being communicated. What was more frustrating was that she then made the claim that despite her website allowing you to select specific therapists, customers should call to confirm therapists requests to prevent situations like this happening - shifting the blame to the customer and online booking system. We left after the 30 minutes of waiting and the back and forth confusion. read more

The only issue I had was when I arrived at the location and had a difficult time finding parking. Other than that, I was warmly welcomed into this establishment by the lady at the front desk who also gave me my massage. She was kind and respectful and hit the pressure points and aching portions of my body. I told her my legs mostly needed the attention so she focused majority of the massage on that area. The hot stones was a plus! This was a gift given to me by my wife for Christmas so I definitely took advantage and came to this location when my body was aching. This place is weird. It's loud, hot and not clean. The massage was ok, but expensive and the aromatherapy bottles were all rancid. The owner walked me back to the treatment (very small) couples room, and then I did the intake (tell the therapist what injuries/sore spots I had) while on the table, once my therapist entered the room. About 10 minutes into my massage my therapist open the treatment room door because he was so hot. Randomly, the chair he was sitting on, would hit the wall or the table I was laying on (because the room was so tiny). The therapist talked about himself, the layout of the room and how hot the room was during the whole session. His draping was intense, and I felt over exposed a majority of the time, but he kept telling me how professional he was. It was all odd, and the type of place that gives 'spas' a bad name. read more

After being cooped up for so long, a massage was NEEDED, I tell you what! The entrance has a cute seating area with the sound of a fountain right by the door. They also have the lemon flavored water on deck, so you can enjoy a cup before and after the massage. During the initial paperwork, they ask detailed questions on how strong your want the massage (1-10, with 10 being STRONG). They even ask what parts of the body you'd like to focus more. One thing that sets this place apart is they also ask where you DO NOT want to be touched. I booked a 90-minute massage with Awaken Massage & Spa on 4-26 because my regular therapist is not available for a couple of months. I thought I'd try them based on a recommendation. I arrived early and filled out their client intake form. I expressed my desire to have light to medium pressure. Everything was pretty routine until midway through the massage. The therapist noticed my right SCM muscle was pretty tight and decided to use a hot towel to massage it out. I had never seen this technique before but thought she must know something I don't (I have had 1-2 massages per month for the last three years with other therapists). I'm not sure what she was trying to achieve, but the light to medium pressure went straight out the window! I told the therapist her pressure was too much. Attached is a pic of the result, a nasty towel burn. I later called the shop Owner to discuss my fantastic experience. She indicated she wasn't surprised by this, and they often use hot towels in their practice. She thought I have sensitive skin (no kidding!). I think it was more the therapist didn't know when to stop. The owner said this particular therapist had worked there for ten years??? Just a side note, sensitive skin might be something you might want to ask clients on the intake form; nice to know! To make a long story short, she apologized a couple of times, offered me 10% off on my next massage, and said I could have a different therapist next time. No mention of refunding my money for the bad experience. Also, in 90-minutes, the therapist didn't finish the massage because she spent so much time on my neck. A therapist should always complete the massage no matter what the focus areas are. I'd think twice before choosing this spa. I won't be back at this place. read more

I visit Napa annually & last year I discovered Awaken. It is more affordable than the resort based spas. This year i had an acute low back sprain. I had the Chinese herbal massage with Annie. Although the massage was excellent, I had no relief for the low back. I called & Jun immediately took responsibility. Seems she told Annie it was neck & shoulder focus. Since Annie doesn't speak English, my efforts had failed to get the low back focus. Jun offered a 30 minute makeup. Well, to my amazement, I left with symptoms resolved, after Kathy did a focused massage with the herbal oil. I could feel it penetrating. I am happy to report a week later, no low back pain. I will be back for my annual visit. Heck, I might just come here from Walnut Creek for a massage more often. Thank you for being a truly awesome service. read more

Well it's been 5 years since my last review so I figured it was worth an update. I've been a loyal customer because Awaken has always treated me like a new customer and an old friend. I have always experienced amazing service and caring restorative massage. I really don't know what I would do without them. Annie is my go to person for massages. She always knows just exactly what my body needs. Every massage I have received over the last 12 years has been incredible. From days that my body is so tense and I was given extra care, to days that I just felt totally pampered. During the pandemic I was pretty paranoid but they have put my mind at ease with air purifiers, temperature checks, hand sanitizer, and masks required of everyone who is in the building whether you're getting a massage or not.
