This is a really cute, small studio and the staff are always very friendly and inviting. In addition to Kundalini classes, they offer individual healing and bodywork sessions which I have not taken advantage of yet. They also have a lot of workshops on the weekends. I love the hypnosis for wellness workshop! I like that there are different membership options (monthly, 10 class passes, and specials from time to time) They also have an $8 community class a few times a week. I do wish they had more classes on weekday afternoons. I've never had trouble finding street parking nearby. I'm very grateful to have a place like the Awareness Center in Pasadena so I don't have to drive into LA for my Kundalini fix. Sat Nam! read more

It was a truly rewarding experience attending Basia's class. She graciously welcomed me. The feeling of unity was dynamic! The sound and vibration of the gong during mantra raised me from my feet! I loved the care and conciousness she used as she played it. Asanas were few, breath and emotional healing was clearly the focus! I wish I had bought a 10 class package. I will definetly return. I was very happy to know that there was a Kundalini Yoga center in this city since I moved here a year ago. All throughout the calendar month, there are workshops and events that relate to yoga, wellness, or some form of healing modality. One time there was a mini concert held there too! What makes this place very inviting and somewhat addicting is that I go there with stress or imbalance and I leave neutralized and fresh. Kundalini Yoga is made up of chants, mantra, excercise sets, and meditations of which all of it is done in about an hour and a half. So it takes one hour and a half to attune my body mind and spirit and off I go on my weekly routine feeling rejuvinated :o) read more

Kunalini yoga is the perfect balance of relaxation and exercise. You leave feeling like you've done something good for your body and you also leave with an over all feeling of peace. I brought in my bf today for his very first introduction to yoga. Where I enjoy the chanting and customized sessions that focus on different areas of healing, I was a little distracted the whole time wondering what he was thinking. To my suprise he did really well and liked the class! We decided to come back once a week to their community class ($8!). Our instructor did a wonderful job of explaining everything and set a nice pace. The studio is tucked back in a cute little building and the street parking was plentiful. I am totally in love with the Awareness Center. It's my second home. The atmosphere is beautiful and healing, the people there are kind, helpful and open hearted. I always feel better everytime I go there to take a yoga class or do a workshop or enjoy a concert. It is definitely what an evolved community is all about and I am happy to say that the community is growing. Fast!!! Lovely place. The setting is great - nice and calming. They give you free tea and cookies - who could ask for more? The classes are wonderful too. My daughter (Jillian) attended her first yoga class here on Saturday morning, and she was not overly impressed. The parking situation is icky (you have to park on the street), and the class itself was not what we thought it would be. There were so many people in the class that when Jillian was told to lay (lie?!) down on the floor and stretch out, she inadvertently grabbed the feet of the woman behind her. This same woman had a severe gas problem, and every time the class had to bend over or stretch, there was a sonic boom emanating from this woman's ass. This is not the fault of the yoga place, but it nonetheless tainted (or should I say, fumigated) our overall opinion. The class did quite a bit of chanting which Jillian was not really "into". I thought it was a little tacky of them not to offer the first class for free, since most yoga studios do that kind of thing. It was difficult for me to part with $15 upfront without having any idea of what I was spending it on. They really need to get a "teen" class going, because their "kids" class only goes through age 12. My 13 year old daughter felt very out of place with all the senior citizens there. I don't have any bad feelings about this place because I'm sure it works for a lot of people; it just didn't work for us. I have to say, the woman (I think her name was Denise) who answered the phone when I initially called with questions was super, super nice, so I wish I could give this place more stars. We will not be returning. read more

I discovered Kundalini Yoga three years ago, and for the past two years have been practicing exclusively at The Awareness Center. It is a mark of The Awareness Center's commitment to the traditions and practices passed down by Yogi Bhaghan (founder of modern Kundalini) that there are no instructors whose skills and compassion I would describe as anything less than "marvelous." Sure, I have my personal preferences, but I can attend any class, any day, and I know that I will leave feeling spiritually and physically better than when I arrived. And I'm not what you might think of as a typical yogi - I'm 62, still eat too much (working on that!), I'm not a vegan (although healthier diet is definitely advocated by Kundalini wisdom). But I can do things physically, now, that I couldn't do at age 40. My spiritual life - which has NOTHING to do with a religious life -- has been tremendously enhanced. And we practice almost entirely with our eyes closed and focused inwardly, so there isn't any of the "getting distracted by/feeling competitive with" other students. 'Nuff said. Take advantage of one of their Groupon or other special offers and check out a few classes. You won't regret it. read more

I've now been going to The Awareness Center on a weekly basis for almost a year now. I love it! The staff and instructors are fabulous. I've been to many different classes on different days and times. Each instructor puts a little twist on the yoga experience. I find that when I leave I always feel more calm and centered. I've also really enjoyed the workshops I've taken there and I've met some really good people in my yoga classes. Even my husband (who is not the touchy-feely type) finds it enjoyable to take a class there from time to time. The Awareness Center has been a life-saver for me. read more

The Awareness Center has changed my life. I am more balanced and at peace with myself and clear about my purpose in life more than ever. It offers a wide variety of classes for all people and physical abilities. The science of Kundalini Yoga shifts your chemical balance as well as boost your nervous and immune system and you really experience this when you finish a class. All the teacher are passionate about what they do and really walk the talk. The atmosphere is serene and at the same time provides you with reknewed energy. A hidden gem! I can't say enough wonderful things about this yoga studio and the community. It's an intimate community of really special teachers and healers. I've been coming here for five years. I've taken the Yoga Teacher Training and Healer Training with Wahe Guru. My 7 year old daughter takes the kids yoga classes and loves to attend Sat Nam Rasayan. My husband and I have done couples workshops and healing breath sessions together at the Awareness Center. It's been a wonderful transformational experience in my life and as a teacher. As long as I'm living in the area I will continue to come to the Awareness Center where I feel supported in my daily practice of yoga, meditation and breath work. read more

Best yoga place ever! I tried lots of yoga studios and yoga types, but this is my favorite and only place I go. I like the kundalini style of yoga which focuses on stretching out the whole body gently and rest periods of meditation. I especially like Gillian's (Atma's) classes. She stretches you out head to toe and has a warm, engaging presence. read more

I'm not a big fan of Kundalini yoga but I do find it interesting and beneficial. Antonella's class was great. She is delightful with a bright spirit. The studio is quaint but parking is a bit difficult. I left feeling energized and clear headed. I would be interested in challenging myself to a regular kundalini practice and recommend this studio!! read more

My husband and I have been attending classes at the Awareness Center for three years and absolutely love it. We started with their excellent beginners series and fell in love with Kundalini yoga. The teachers and staff are always helpful, friendlly and professional. The minute you walk in the door you are warmly greeted and it doesn't matter whether you are a newcomer or an old friend. It is a place of community and friendship as well as a place to fulfill your yoga journey. You can continue to learn through workshops and a variety of classes (or even a great teacher training course) or just keep coming to the same weekly class. It is whatever is right for you. The center is always neat and clean. They offer books, CD's, clothing and other items at reasonable prices--items that you won't normally find at your neighborhood bookstore. Kundalini yoga has nourished our bodies and souls. My husband and I highly recommend the Awareness Center to anyone interested in yoga or anyone seeking a path to health, happiness and spirituality. read more

The Awareness Center has moved a couple of times over the years but I have been taking yoga classes on and off here for over 20 years. My wife and I try to go every Saturday morning and love Suraj's class. The person who gave this one star is right in one respect. Parking is bad. But that's it in my opinion. She must have really picked an off day and should have used the rest of her 9 classes to get a better idea. Yes the instructors wear turbans as they are Sikhs. No it is not a cult and no the instructors don't insist on being called Yogi. In the 20 years I've been going here not once have I ever been asked to join their religion. Saying there's a cult vibe here is just plain silly and narrow minded. And saying it caters to rich, bored housewives? Makes me laugh. My wife and I are in our early 70s and have met many very nice people here over the years. To us the Awareness Center has a nice, peaceful vibe and we always feel better after the class. I recommend it to anyone to give it a try. But I'd try various classes to see which instructor you may like the best as they're all a bit different. read more

Went to the the Women's So Purkh Chanting Circle on Monday 5/13. The circle lasts from 7:30-9pm. It is donation based ($5 suggested) and they ask you to wear a headcovering (scarf, hat, or shawl, preferably white). I went with a girlfriend. So Purkh is a very long mantra. The intent of chanting the So Purkh mantra is to support, uplift and encourage divine male energy for the men in our lives and in the world at large. The teacher, Nimrita/Marcia had both a commanding voice and a loving, uplifting energy. She provided a sheet with the Mantra written out. You can sing/chant along or just sit in meditation and listen (I chose to do this). The chanting is done along with a recording of the mantra by Nirinjan Kaur. Wonderful to hear all the beautiful female voices singing/chanting in unison. Nimrita/Marcia conducts these sessions every month. A fantastic, uplifting experience! I highly recommend. read more
