Problem: No protection from sun or rain at the entry doors of our new garage and "companion unit" plus some leaking water in a recent rainstorm. Solution: Install nice-looking awnings over the entry doors and seal the top edges against the building. Manny from Awning Solutions came to our house to see the install location and showed us a variety of awning types and a rainbow of Sunbrella fabric colors and patterns. We decided that three awnings were needed, each a slightly different width. The Awning Solutions team quickly manufactured the needed frames and fabric covers. Installers Joe and Jaime arrived promptly on installation day, attached the finished units, and showed us the best way to clean and care for the fabric, which we expect to last 10 years or longer. Ariana managed our various communications smoothly (including asking for this Yelp review.) When we discovered that the awnings hadn't been sealed (we'd forgotten to specify that detail in our agreement) Joe came back the next day to get it done. Thanks for your good work, folks! A client of mine requested sheet metal awnings be installed as part of a larger project. Having never purchased sheet metal awnings, I had zero idea of where to go or what to budget. A quick google search sent me to Awning Solutions. Their website said that they offer free quotes. I called and asked for a very rough idea for a typical sheet metal awning, for budget purposes only. The person that answered the phones informed me that there "is no such thing as typical, all our work is custom", while that may be true, there must be a baseline number for a small project (3'x3' and 3'x6' awnings seem pretty standard to me). I was again informed that "all our work is custom and if you want a price you need to come in to our showroom". Again, I politely explained that I just need a very rough idea, "would we be safe to budget $200 or $2,000 each?" I asked...and again was informed of the previous and repremanded that "anyone in San Diego will tell you the same thing"....followed by a dial-tone. Yep. They actually hung up on a prospective sale. Wish I could have something to base my one star off but unfortunately I was never giving the opportunity. I requested a quote for some commercial awning repair or replacement. The owner called me and seemed nice and told me he would have a quote for me by Tuesday or Wednesday. Well when Thursday came around I never recieved a update or call so I Decided to call myself and was told he would call me back as soon as he was back in the office. Well I never recieved that call. Sometimes I wonder how small business stay in business with there customer service and ethics. I mean come on at least keep your customers informed one way or another. It's a shame. read more

We hired Awning Solutions to provide our backyard with five "privacy" sails, to construct six patio furniture covers and to construct a long, complicated BBQ and outdoor kitchen countertop cover. The sails were strongly anchored and were placed exactly where we needed them to hide the unsightly power lines in a crowded area in Pacific Beach. Making the BBQ cover was a difficult project; but, Manny and his crew made it to fit the countertop with sink and grill. The outdoor furniture covers were all matched for pattern. I found this company on Yelp and after reading the reviews sent an email asking for a bid to replace our awning that was damaged in a recent storm. I saw others mention in their reviews that they emailed in measurements to save the company some time from coming out to do the measurements themselves. That sounded reasonable, so I sent a photo of our damaged awning and my husband drew out the measurements. I got an email from Ariana the office manager asking if Manny had already given us a quote. Apparently my husband's handwriting looks like Manny's. I assured her my husband drew it out on the back of an envelope. She apologized and said she'd get me a quote by the next morning. I waited a couple days, and checked in again. She promised by the end of the day. Nothing. I asked again, and again another promise for the next day. That was 13 days ago. I was promised a quote 3 times and never received anything. Of course at this point, I have no interest in doing business with this company. Awning Solutions, Inc. installed awnings for my neighbor several months back. Although my neighbor wasn't happy about how the striped pattern was seamed together on the main awning at the front of her house, I decided to contact them anyway knowing seams wouldn't be an issue as I planned on using a solid color for mine. Five days after leaving a voice mail during business hours to arrange for an estimate, I'd heard nothing back. I called again and this time spoke with "Ariana" who made it clear they were flush with business and had no interest in working around my extremely busy schedule to arrange for the work. She suggested I measure the awnings myself and get back to her with numbers. She'd then get back to me with a price. Huh??? When is it my job to do your job for you? The lack of a response to my telephone message, along with their unwillingness to arrange a visit convenient to me, hints strongly that Awning Solutions doesn't value their customers, at least when money is coming in hand over fist. The upcoming "El Nino" has obviously brought abundant work to such companies who now have little incentive to work with customers, even when business is by referral and virtually guaranteed. Glad I found that out before committing to what would have been thousands of dollars in work. I'd prefer to give my money to a company that appreciates my time and is willing to go the extra mile if needed. read more

This company made and installed a large awning over some windows on the back of my houses few years ago. It looks great and they WERE very professional. Past tense. HOWEVER I now want another awning to match (or possibly 3) and I have left a few phone messages and a few emails and no one has answered the phone and I've gotten no reply at all. They can't even be bothered to call and say they are too busy. I am disappointed and the guy who originally helped me has left the company. I guess the job isn't big enough for them. When business slows down they may regret their failure to reply to messages. I am looking elsewhere and will do so in the future when I get awnings for the rest of the house. read more

Manny and his team recovered our existing frames with the sunbrella fabric of my choice. The first time they reinstalled them we had to send them back because the fabric did not lay correctly. The were reinstalled and my husband noticed some of the seams had not been properly glued down, again they did come out and correct the problem. In the end they look nice, giving a little lower rating due to the problems, it would be nice if they could have done it right the first time. Would I use them again, yes I would give them another try. read more

We hired Awning Solutions to replace our awning cover that wore out after 6 years. Manny (the owner), came out and was very pleasant and informative. Measurements were taken and a pattern selected. The installation crew were also cordial and efficient, replacing the awning cover in less than 20 minutes. After the installers left, I noticed that the awning canvas did not extend the full length of the awning, it was approximately an inch short on one side. I called Manny and sent him some photos, he acknowledged the error and said he would replace the cover, and give us a discount. That's great customer service. When I remodeled my backyard on a budget a few years back I was looking to do a giant sail shade. Since I did 90% of the construction myself I needed people who were flexible and would only do specific portions of the job. The guys at Awning Solutions were by far the best fit after many, many bids. They welded the huge poles up for me and delivered them so I could drill and sink them myself. The only reason I knew what to do is because they told me exactly. Then they came in and strung up my monster 26×24 shade that they sewed up. This review is a long tome coming. We were looking for someone to come out and troubleshoot an awning that was stuck in the open position. Every place we found seemed more intent on selling us a new awning, or else they ignored us and never called back, but Manny was different. He came out with two guys, figured out the problem, and then only charged us $40 total for the service. I watched him give the two $20 bills to his guys and walk away with nothing for himself. I called Awning Solutions based on having read other Yelp reviews, and the highest ratings are in fact deserved. I called to arrange a home visit for an estimate, and that happened two days later. The estimate was lower than the 3 others we had in hand. Further, Manny advised that we didn't need to replace the hardware from our current worn-out awnings. He said they would clean up the hardware and that it would continue to work just fine. We accepted the bid and authorized the work by phone, and they were installed a little over a week later. Manny tells you when they are coming to measure, and when they are coming to install. I didn't need to miss a minute of work because he managed the entire project from outside the house. The awnings are in place, and they look beautiful. He uses the Sunbrella fabric, so they should hold up well. So this is a company that makes it so so easy to do business with them. Their prices are great, their scheduling is convenient, their quality is first-rate, their communications are straightforward,and I didn't have a single hiccup throughout the process. Manny made custom awnings for my condo last fall. My condo is located in Pacific Beach very near the ocean. I know from past experience that if you don't use the best products at the beach they just won't last. Awning Solutions removed my old awnings and custom measured and made new awnings for all my doors and sliding door openings. We were having the exterior painted first so Manny powder coated all the new gal poles with the same color as the stucco. When they were installed they matched perfectly and are quite eye appealing and all value to the overall exterior. I also had custom roll-up shade made for the patio area. The company was no longer in business and we knew better than to fall for all the ads that tell you they will sell you awnings for unbelievable low prices. We've known people who got those and they are imported, cheap fabric and don't last a year. We have used Awning Solutions in two rounds for a multi-faceted backyard project, and we have had a positive experience with both Manny (owner) and his crew. They are probably very busy because I did have some trouble getting things going with them in the very beginning of the process (last year), but my persistence and proactive communication paid off and was well worth it, because now I wouldn't use any other company. Manny is retired military and his character reflects that. Competitive prices, excellent quality, and he is honest. He also looks for solutions to unusual project requests, and the result was a better and more user-friendly solution than the suggestions of other companies we contacted. (Ours involved exterior sunroom shades, but we also preferred and purchased their version of retractable window shades for a bedroom and bath.) There was no staff turnover in his crew from last year to this, so he must treat them well. Like another reviewer, I similarly had an "extra" request both years that didn't involve their products but did involve their tools and manpower, and Manny gave that modest asking price directly to his crew without wanting any for himself.
