This was a phenomenal experience from start to finish! We hosted a work outing on a weeknight and…read morecoordinated details with Amanda M. She made the planning process painless, and the night of, the team executed it perfectly! It was everything we were hoping it would be, good food, good drinks, and a fun activity. The food was buffet-style and had great portion sizes. We were impressed that we got our own axe-throwing 'coach' for the amount of time we rented the lanes. This was the first time most of us did axe-throwing, so it was comforting to have a guide. The team had a blast, and I highly recommend it for an after-work get-together. Ask for Amanda!

I hadn't, but it was…read more something I had been wanting to try, so after a quick search this spot came up and I booked a time slot online. When we arrived, we were greeted right away and directed to our station. There was no waiting around, which I loved. I thought it would be more of a "throw whenever you want" situation, but we actually had an instructor with us the whole time, which ended up being a good thing since I was a complete beginner. Our instructor, Eian (hope I'm spelling that right), was great, funny, super helpful, very engaging, and patient. He explained everything clearly and gave tips that actually made us feel confident throwing despite our many misses haha. We played a game toward the end of our session and somehow I won which was surprising considering I had no idea what I was doing, still don't! After axe throwing, we went to the bar. It wasn't busy at the time, but it did take a bit for the bartender to acknowledge us. Once we ordered, we walked around to check the place out while we waited for our food. It's definitely more than just axe throwing. There are pool tables, an area with board games, cornhole, darts. It was overall just a fun, social vibe. As it got busier, our food came out but we didn't get plates at first. Then plates came, but no utensils. We waited a while and asked the bartender if she had any, who told us to track down the server ourselves (that was [not] fun). Eventually we got everything we needed. The food is more of a shareable style, so we ordered a few items and honestly, everything was really good. Despite the small service hiccups at the bar, overall it was a fun experience and I'd definitely go back, especially for axe throwing and the atmosphere.

Ya know, axe throwing is a little like indoor skydiving. You know about it, hear about it, maybe…read moreeven read about it. But only because you assume, at some point in your life, you may end up doing at least one of these things by accident, if not intentionally. And typically, with a friend. So, when my wife's bestie suggested the idea of tossing axes at splintered wood to purge out pent up aggression, I thought to myself, "Self, this could be therapeutic and fun. Let's do this!" As you can imagine, throwing axes is nothing like throwing water balloons. Ergo, you must sign a waiver prior to partaking in said lumberjack competition. At any rate, we booked our lane ahead of time, which I *think* is mandatory anyway. Like, you can't exactly just walk in and take a lane. The site seems to encourage its visitors to book a reservation first. Just my assumption though. Anyways, after signing away our rights to sue the place in the event one of us pulls an Anakin Skywalker and lops off a limb, we proceed to the throw house's location. I'd like to take this moment to mention how tucked away this place is. Keep in mind, I'm the first and only person to review this place at the time of writing this. The fact that this place didn't exist on Yelp before I showed up blows my mind. But I have two theories on this.. 1.) The place is too new. 2.) Not enough people know about it for whatever reason. Therefore, nobody bothered to add them to Yelp till now. This is one of those "blink and you'll miss 'em" locations, too. So, ya ain't finding this one by happenstance whilst going for a casual drive. When we walk in, it takes a while to get a hostess. But we're eventually confirmed via our reservation and given a lane. Which was defective. So, we proceeded to the next lane over. This one was better. We got a thorough demonstration and crash course on axe throwing by our... "Axepert" (yes, that's what they call themselves). And honestly, I gotta say...axe throwing isn't as difficult as you might think. Only pro tip I could give is...watch a YouTube video ahead of time and you'll learn a bit about holding techniques. The main thing is not to grip it tight like a baseball bat. It should be a little loose, but not TOO loose of a grip. But don't quote me on this; I'm not an Axepert. OMG...I can't believe I just said that (-‸). Moving on.. The bar (if you can even call it that) is pretty basic. Beers, wines, and a few foo-foo drinks, I think. However, the food...was pretty pathetic. Bland chicken tenders with breading so thick, it tasted like those frozen tenders you get at the grocery store. The seasoned curly fries were...okay. Not quite as seasoned as I'd have imagined, but whatevs. I guess the ladies loved the stuffed poppers, so....winning? ¯\_( )_/¯ It's bar food, yeah. But like, it shouldn't suck? 3 out of 10, stick with the drinks and the axes. And now, we have to talk about the prices. Now, I've never been axe throwing before, so I have no basis for comparison yet. But even I know that something here is f**ky in the way the prices are presented. If you book a reservation ahead of time via the website, you still won't see the prices until you click "Book Now". Note that the prices shown are per person, not group. Also, it varies based on the size of your group. Thing is, you would never know any of this if you just walked in or called in without using the website. It's....dubious, to say the least. So, our entire bill ended up being over $150 for 4 people. And that was only for 1 hour. I dunno how much axe throwing goes for at other establishments, but....arrive with a full wallet. That's all I'm sayin'. As far as first impressions go, the activity itself was surprisingly invigorating. The place itself is decent enough. Though, I can't help feeling like there are most likely better ones out there. So, I'm holding out for one of those. For now, Axel's Throw House receives 3 axes hurling through the air dead on target out of 5.

I was so furious by lunchtime and could not think of a single healthy coping mechanism lol I was like "I wish I could just break some things......." and with the combination of Yelp and Google - I found Just Smash It. (Is that growth?) It was super easy to book, pay, and sign the waivers online so I appreciated that. I committed to driving from the North Shore to Avon after work on a Friday so you know I was absolutely fuming and could not calm down. It was around $84 for the 'LET IT OUT!!!" private package since it was just me. I showed up and I can't remember the guys name, but he was very nice and got me all sorted to start with coveralls and giving me the rundown. They even let you pick music so that was necessary. I need to have a playlist and some set songs ready next time, but he put on my screamy angry music so that helped. I got 3 crates of glass and a big tv to absolutely wreck. I believe they book in 30 minute windows and I just went ham for like 15 minutes with baseball bats and a pry bar tbh and was exhausted after that. I talked to another gentleman after and he was showing the upgrades like toilets, printers, microwaves - all sorts of things since I was curious, but it was my first time so I was good with what I had. It was plenty and definitely burned off some rage. I am still sore 2 days later. Overall, i'm a fan and will definitely be back. The only thing that's a little odd is parking, but I parked in the lot that's like the next turn after the building where the civic/town offices are. It's a decent-sized parking lot and was empty so I would recommend that. Everything else was extremely easy and they're a small family-run business so I love that. If you have a little extra rage in the cage - this is a great option, especially if you can't afford a misdemeanor or time in prison.

This place is great. I was just dropping off a couple of TVs but the guys were very helpful. I'm…read moredefinitely going to try smashing things at some point!
