It's Time to jump into The TimeMobile & scour the Earth & take you to places from a different time that you won't believe still exist. We have set the dial to 1875 to the town of Haverhill MA. & Winnekenni Castle. Many people think that you have to jump the pond & visit Jolly Old England & The UK to see a Castle. Not True. America has many castles; unfortunately they are just not being promoted. This trip is less than 1 hour drive outside of Boston. Bring a Picnic basket, a water bottle & some good sneakers for an easy 20 minute nature walking hike. After your hike, head back to your car & pull out the picnic basket for a picnic on the green grass on the banks of the Lake. The inside of the Castle is Closed & is only open for Functions, Weddings & Special Events etc. Don't worry you will still be able to see the outside of the Castle close up, the Castle Grounds & lots of other cool stuff. Park your car at the bottom near the playground in the Parking lot or on the side of the road where the signs allow Parking. There are closer Free Parking lots on the way up but you will miss out on all the Adventure & The Winnekenni Castle Hike. So Park your car & follow the signs on Castle Rd. up to the Castle. There are multiple trails & if you like hiking & are more adventurous you can go for several miles all around the Lake. We're going to do an easy trek - a 20 minute hike up & lots of natural settings to see. You will travel along the dirt trails along the lake shore & up the hill to the Winnekenni Castle. THE HISTORY Winnekenni Park Conservation Area is 700+ acres that overlooks the Kenoza Lake which is Haverhill's primary drinking water source. Dr. James R. Nicola built the Castle between 1873 & 1875. He was inspired by the stone structures & castles he visited in England. This was his former residence that he used as a summer home. It is not a huge Castle but modest in size but beautiful. Speaking of Beautiful, the word Winnekenni is taken from the Algonquin Dialect meaning Very Beautiful. C Willis Damon was the Haverhill architect who designed this Magnificent Castle. In 1875 the city of Haverhill purchased it along with some additional land in later years. Besides nature walking & jogging, you can do bicycling, cross country skiing in the winter months, horse back riding & other activities. Like I said The Castle is open for Private Special Events. There is no tour here. They also have Special Public Events every so often that they open the Castle up & are either reasonably priced or even Free sometimes. Check the website for further details & upcoming events. You can check out my other review about Winnekenni Park also. There are picnic tables & benches here or just put a blanket on the green grass & Chill. There's even a Playground Area with Swings, a Slide etc here for Kids. So have a great time exercising, explore & learn about the great outdoors on your adventure, see a castle & have a fun picnic on the green grass on the outskirts of the lake. And guess what? IT'S ALL FREE! It used to be, you had to have Mega Bucks & be Really Rich to have the Good Life, not anymore. The Game has changed. You've been Upgraded. Now You Can Live Like a King on a Limited Budget!

Thought of the Roma Restaurant that we heard was under new management and really good. My husband went in and asked if they were still open for dinner. They said yes that they closed at 9:00 and it was 8:45. I thought that was phenomenal because I can't tell you the number of restaurants say they're closing at a certain time and then when you go, they break the news that the kitchen closes a half an hour or an hour earlier. We went in and decided to eat at a high top in the bar because there was no one in the dining room because it was so late. I will say the dining room is very elegant. And...has cozy booths, which we love! Our server was Dodi who was very pleasant and accommodating. Ordered drinks. And just ordered our entrees right away knowing it was so late. My husband ordered Veal Parmesan and Ziti which was $30.00 and I ordered Chicken and Broccoli Alfredo which was $26.00. Very reasonable for the amount and quality you get. I always say, if you have to anything with an entree because you are not making the margins, go up on price...don't go down on quantity and quality. This place has done that. They brought out some crusty rolls that I believe were meant to be served warm, but weren't very warm, but considering the time, were good none the less. Our entrees came. I've got to tell you; my husband and I are the pickiest people you know. We will drive an hour to a restaurant. I don't like any restaurants in my close vicinity. My husband said this Veal Parmesan was the tenderest veal, a huge portion, and super delicious. As he was eating, he said we are definitely coming back here! The chicken in my Chicken Broccoli Alfredo was super tender! Usually, you get stringy chicken in these dishes which is cheap chicken. It came with fettuccine pasta which the next time I would change to ziti, for no reason except ziti is easier to eat. The alfredo sauce was freshly made from cream, not some globby pre prepared stuff. Very, very good. Nothing like years ago. If you haven't been to the Roma in a million years as we had, don't judge your past experience. Try them out! Very pleasant surprise and somewhere for us to go that isn't an hour away! I will tell you the only mistake the new owners made is in keeping the same name as the old Roma. The reviews on Yelp are mostly based on the old Roma which was a dump. If they insist on keeping the name, they should add something to it and get a new account on Yelp that reflects the new patrons reviews.

I returned to the area after a 40 years hiatus and have ordered it several times since. It is still the perfectly cooked, delicious cutlet it always was, however its price has risen dramatically over the past 3 years, to the point where it will no longer be an option for me. Where will the continuing national price increases end? Frustrating! Service is always great, although I always sit in the bar. Larry is always my server. He has become rather hard of hearing. I have taken a look at their main dining area? It is different than it was 40 years ago. It is quite beautiful, Unfortunately I have not tried the rest of their menu.

When I got to the hall there was more than 15 tables set up. And then I was supposed to have three large buffet tables set up. I had to find another table to set up plus take the remainder of the tables and chairs down. That we did not need. This was supposed to be all done for me. That was extra time spent having to do this. A gentleman approached me and advised that I could not bring drinks in. I brought juices for the kids and water for the coffee pot. I did not have time for this unnecessary behavior. I knew the rules and was abiding by them. Then on top of it. There was no water in the kitchen to rinse things with. Then at 5.00pm my guest arrived. But no bartender. I waited for a bit to see if one showed up. Then I went upstairs to the lounge and asked the bartender there if he knew where my bartender was. He did get on the phone and call Priscilla who was out of town and he left a message. Then another gentleman got on his phone and called someone else. No one seemed to know who was working my event and get in touch with them. I said to the bartender up stairs what am I going to do with nothing for my guest to drink. He said just wait a little while. Already over the time I paid for the bartender. Now it is almost 6.00pm and a girl walked in and she said she was our bartender. I was very unhappy with this situation. I called the lady I contracted with myself and she did answer he phone. She advised me she was out of town and she would take care of this. I have not heard back from her as of today. The bar then was opened. My guest got their drinks and from my understanding there was too much alcohol in the drinks. The bartender was not making the drinks correct., and that some of my guest found bugs in their drinks. I did not find out until the next day about the bugs and too much alcohol from the guest of honor. If I had known I would have approached the bartender and advised her of what was happening. The night was approaching the end. And I looked over at 10.30pm and the bar was completely closed. I have heard of last call 15 minutes before the end but not that soon. Overall I paid 500.00 for the hall and the bartender. And neither was correct. I am very dissatisfied overall. I feel as though the money given and the service was not provided. I do not do business this way. I was completely embarrassed about the whole situation. The hall hasn't even mentioned anything about compensation for the time. I believe they should. This should not even be rated. It was a terrible experience.

Their event coordinator and experienced staff helped us to select vendors, choose a menu, plan the ceremony, and choreograph the entire event so that it was unique, romantic, and memorable. On the evening of our wedding, our event coordinator personally attended to our needs, ensuring that every detail happened as planned. We had very specific expectations (with a dozen checklists to prove it!) and she and the staff exceeded every one. The deck and function rooms looked amazing; the food was fantastic; the service was courteous and attentive, but unobtrusive; and, most important, the evening flowed flawlessly, with no intervention from the either of us. We wouldn't be surprised to learn that Salvatore's also had something to do with the postcard-perfect sunset! ;) Months later, our guests continue to gush about the evening, including the food, the staff, and the venue itself. We are so happy that we chose Salvatore's for our wedding. We wouldn't change a thing.
