This Mexican fusion restaurant was recommended to us by one of the employees at The Original Banana Company. He wasn't wrong - this place is solid! We arrived just in time, as there was a line to get in directly after we were seated. Service was slow, but they were really busy. And we were not in a rush. Complimentary chips and mole to start. The Esquite (Mexican street corn, sans cob) was amazing. I could eat this every day of my life. The Pork Bao Buns were flavorful, but the cheese threw us off. There was a lot of it, too. We ordered the Birria Tacos (beef) and the Korean Al Pastor Rice Bowl. I had lunch for two days. Can't beat that! BYOB. Small parking lot. Street parking seems tough - it may be wise to Uber. Axo is so cute - it looks like someone's house or doctors office, so watch closely for it. The parking lot in back looks like it has enough space, but people are bad parkers so they make it harder. Plus there's a take out business that keeps people coming and going. The inside is beautiful, with lights on the ceiling and tables arranged neatly. There are no booths. The restroom is huge and temperature-wise a little chilly. They bring your bill to the table but you pay at the register. Everyone is very nice and they brought water unprompted, which was fantastic! Then the food.... Delicious! The egg rolls were nicely fried and the insides (especially the birria) were tasty. This place was on my list of "must try" restaurants for the year and I'm so happy I finally made it to Axo. I heard a lot of good things about this restaurant and I will say, they did live up to the "hype." My friend and I ordered a few things. We started with a seafood egg roll and nachos. Both arrived promptly. I couldn't wait to try the seafood egg roll. I bite into the egg roll and I could taste seafood and cheese in every bite. The flavor of was absolutely amazing. I had to offer some to my friend bc it was just that damn good. Next were the nachos. We both enjoyed the flavor of the birria along with the cheese and other ingredients. The birria was hearty, beefy, juicy and tender. The chips were fresh and crunchy just the way we like them. By the time we were done with the nachos, we were almost full. For entrees, we tried the birria ramen and seafood tacos. Now, when I say my bowl was FULL, I tried to eat a lot of the soup, but it just didn't look like I even put a dent in it. The broth was absolutely fantastic. It was rich, savory, with a hint of heat. Again, the birria was tender, juicy, and perfectly cooked. I had more than enough soup for an extra serving that I enjoyed the next day. My friend didn't talk much as he ate his seafood tacos. We tried this place randomly on a Wednesday evening. There was only one other couple in restaurant. It appears to be a Mexican vibe with Asian influences. The menus has most all of the Mexican favorites and Asian favorites with Mexican ingredients . We started with birria dumplings. These were meh. I normally love birria and especially the consommé that comes with it is savory and delicious. This broth was so greasy I felt like I had to submerge a napkin to wick the grease. The dumplings were fried but the meat was just ok honestly felt under seasoned. For meals we ordered the nachos which came with fresh chips , birria , pico de gallo , chipotle aioli, avocado , cheese ... these were good I would have rather had crema in lieu of chipotle ... don't love the smoky. We also ordered the birria Raman. A little fearful not going to lie especially since the consommé from the dumplings were so greasy. The Raman was actually flavored very well. Definitely seemed fresher than the dipping sauce. Overall was good not great. They have canned soft drinks and offer a few Aqua Fresca options. You can also byo here. The tacos were crunchy and filling. The egg rolls came with this amazing dipping sauce and so did the nachos. It was like a guacamole liquid sauce. Wow, it was great. My husband couldn't stop ranting about how heavy the container of nachos were. There were toppings all throughout. He barely made a dent in it and it there was still more leftover for later. Started with complimentary chips with a bean sauce, love when places are generous like that. Ordered the shrimp ceviche- my favorite item of my visit, so fresh and light- perfect balance and the tostada stayed crisp. Main item was the birra ramen, it was good, spicier than expected but not overwhelming. It seemed heavy compared to the ceviche- I ended up asking for extra limes and that gave some brightness. Before I get into details I want to start by saying our first experience today was INCREDIBLE. For a few weeks I have been reading reviews, watching social media posts, and checking out food pics to see if AXO would be worth a try. Through all of my "research" I learned that they have been around for quite some time, despite never having an actual brick and mortar restaurant. AXO seems to be quite respected in the community too, so it was definitely added to my must try list. I learned that you should check the hours the day you plan to visit, because they change. Today I planned to go axe throwing with my husband and then follow it up with a trip to AXO to stick with the theme. I noticed their hours changed to 12-3, which still worked within our plan to do lunch. When we arrived the parking lot was packed ( something I was prepared for) and we got the lucky last spot. We went inside and were greeted and asked for our name and phone number. They call when your table is ready and we were given a time of 50 minutes ( I was also prepared to wait). It was a beautiful day so we waited outside. Only twenty minutes later my phone rang and our table was ready. Mason jars of ice water were brought over promptly as well as crispy homemade tortilla chips with what tasted like homemade refried beans and cheese. On each table there is salsa verde, another type of orange spicy sauce, and chili oil. They offer pineapple and hibiscus agua frescas as well as jaritos. We opted for the pineapple agua Fresca and it was so fresh and delicious. Not too sweet, just the right amount of everything. We ordered the chicken birria egg roll and beef birria cheese fries as our apps. The birria cheese fries are crispy, golden brown crinkle cut fries served with shredded birria beef, pico de Gallo, cilantro, and melted cheese with some type of delicious sauce. The birria egg roll is cut in half so two people can easily share and comes with a sweet chili dipping sauce. We loved both apps so much, but the egg roll was actually our fave, mostly because of the unique flavors. For our entrees we did the beef axo tacos and the chicken birria tacos. By this point we were both pretty full and we realized we ordered too much, but we had to keep going. The tacos were fully stuffed and so crispy. The person who said these are too expensive for what you get must not dine out much because they are perfectly priced for the sheer amount of filling. The consomme is delicious too. I thought we were done since we were so full but my husband decided to get the churros to go. He ended up starting to eat them before we even pulled out of the parking lot. They were some of the best I've ever had. I've had so many churros that were still cold or undercooked in the middle. These were incredible. An adorable personalized touch is everyone gets a unique Mexican lollipop with the check that is pineapple, strawberry and lime flavored. Our servers were so sweet and everything was well paced. The place was packed and I know it's going to be packed for a long time to come because I'm telling everyone I know to visit and I'll definitely be back again and again. read more

So I found myself close this week and with some time to burn so I was quite happy to find them open on Tuesday. The place is homey and clean. The service was excellent and the food was very, very good. I got the shrimp tacos, but there were many other options I would have had as well, meaning I need to return, soon! They served some chips with frijoles de fiesta to start and the chips were fresh. The tacos arrived and came with a seafood bisque for dipping, or that's what I did anyway. The tacos were full of ingredients and shrimp! Excellent! The tacos are grilled in some way too, almost like birria tacos, but not as messy. I have been wanting to try the tacos from AXO when they were in Pennsauken; ever since they opened the restaurant in Lindenwold, I wanted to go there even more and I finally made it. Upon walking in, there isn't a host desk or anything so we weren't sure if we had to wait for someone to greet us or walk up to the counter/cashier desk so we waited. It took a bit to be greeted and seated. It was a bit busy so we understand but we got water and waited probably 5 mins or more before a server came to our table. We ordered everything right away and tried the following: Birria Beef Egg Roll - perfect crunch and flavor (it's only 1 cut in half) Seafood Egg Roll - my fave!! Korean Al Pastor Rice Bowl - Pork al pastor topped with pineapple This had so much flavor, great hint of spice and just delicious!! Others had the Shrimp Tacos that came with a side of soup & the Salmon Rice Bowl. All really good. I went back a week later to have the egg roll again and surf n' turf tacos. Tried Axo for the first time. You have to be a birria fan to eat here. Everything from egg rolls, noodle soup, to dumplings to tacos are beef or chicken or shrimp birria. The tacos were tasty. I was not a fan of the surf and turf tacos because the mean was tough and very chewy. The rest of the items we ordered were tasty. Because they make everything fresh it can take over 1 hour to get your foods. The service was good and the churros were ok, a bit in the tough hard side. The Korean al pastor tacos were painfully dry. The flavor wasn't bad, but they were barely edible. The biria buns (a special) were quite good, definitely the highlight.
