For starters this has to be one of the most stunning restaurants I have been to in NYC. The details are impeccable and it is truly one of the best ambiances I have experienced here in a long time. From the live music to even the hand soap dispensers in the bathroom this place does not miss when it comes to the details in the ambiance. In regards to service, it truly could not have been better. The wine I had ordered was bad and our waiter could not have been more accommodating bringing me more glasses to try before finally settling on one which he then continued to refill throughout the dinner without my request. From the hostesses to the bathroom attendants to our waiter the service here is truly top tier. Now you may be wondering why the low rating if all of this was so great? Unfortunately the food here simply does not live up to the rest of the establishment. For my entree I had the Tuna Kefta, they weren't bad per se but they weren't anything great. The person I was dining with had the Avocado Salad and felt the same. Not bad but definetly not good. We were addiionally served bread alonside our meal wihch was rock hard and the desserts we were brought were virtually tasteless. The experience and decor are worth the visit but the rest is to be desired. I don't have too much to say about the food. Some of it on par, some subpar, but overall lacking flavor in my opinion. Good portion sizes though. A lot, and I mean a lottt of people come here for their birthday and rightfully so because its a great place to celebrate, but you would think they would be more accommodating when it comes to birthday cakes. Initially they said we can bring our cake in but you cannot eat it. One of the prettiest ambiance and decorations I've seen in the city but they need to tell influencers to stop taking flash photos all evening. The food was very good a they definitely recommend too much in terms of sharing. For the two of us, we started with cheese brouikas then shared lamb shank and chicken tagine and still had leftovers (their rec was to get a salad and couscous on top and sides). However, the whole time while we were there, an influencer table (for about 2 hours) took non stop flash photos consistently and the staff even at some point I overhead was encouraging them. This Moroccan spot has a great vibe--dimly lit, lively, and definitely more of a party atmosphere than a quiet dinner. The bar was packed, which added to the energy, but it also made moving through the restaurant pretty annoying. It was very crowded, the bathroom is tiny, and at times servers were literally pushing people out of the way to get through, which felt a bit chaotic. Food-wise, there were some real highlights. The tuna tartare appetizer was excellent--super fresh fish and really flavorful. We shared the meat platters, which were delicious overall. The lamb and beef were especially standout; tender and well-seasoned. I'd skip the sausage, though--it didn't compare to the rest. For dessert, the pastilla is a must-try. Drinks were mostly very good. Everything we had was solid except the Climbing Goats cocktail, which had a strange taste and wasn't for me--I wouldn't order that again. One big downside was how strict they are with table time limits. Toward the end of our meal, while we were still eating our entrée, we were told we had 30 minutes left if we wanted dessert. It felt extremely rushed and definitely took away from the experience. It just doesn't seem well timed because you wait for your food (which is totally fine) but then there's not enough time to calmly eat it. We were a table of 8 for reference. Overall, the food and vibe are good, but be prepared for crowds, tight spaces, and a fast-paced dining experience. Ayah is a newer Moroccan restaurant in SoHo that's definitely more for show than anything else. I came for a birthday party in a larger group, and the restaurant's interior is intimate & beautiful. Service was friendly and everyone working their is clearly trying to make sure that you're having a good time. Make a reservation on the later end if you want to be there when the venue turns into a party, there's dancers and people were up on the tables by the end of the night. The food on the other hand was a different story. The tuna kefta was not good - it was hard & dry and the only flavor was in the sauce, not the fish itself. The fries were incredibly average, they don't seem hand cut -- insane for a restaurant at this price point to be using frozen fries. The other sides - the za'atar spinach & mushrooms were fine. Our table really enjoyed the meat platter, was definitely the saving grace of the meal. The complimentary bread was also surprisingly really nice. Ayah is just a bit too pretentious for me; and I hate to say that because I think opening a restaurant in NYC takes a miracle and is backed by so many people. But I believe $28 cocktails and bathrooms selling vapes does too much. Yes, it's stunning inside! But what we're here for is food and the service that comes with it. Both fell flat. The restraunt feels like a train car, narrow. Servers and food runners bumpimg into each other, while the bar gets flooded with parties waiting for their table; just didn't have the operational feng shui a dinner service requires. Ordered the Chhiwat tower, tuna tartare, french fries, and the cheese briouats. The meal also came with complimentary bread. For the most part, everything fell flat. The best bite had to be the french fries, and they were a bit too crunchy. The tower was interesting. Traditional dips and small plates, but I truly think there's a better pita/dosa/carb to use then french bread for dipping. The tuna was quite frankly boring, very avocado/guacamole forward. At the end of the day, I enjoyed my meal and time spent! I also think it's because my girlfriend is a gem and I can never have a dull moment with her. Happy to have tried, but will not be back. Completely deranged thing to say in a cocktail lounge at midnight, yes... but also: multigenerational compound interest does hit like a high-yield pheromone if you squint. And he asked me to dinner on West Houston, which I took as a sign that at least one of his ancestors believed in dating outside the gene pool. So I wore an old Reformation dress Reilly called "pilgrim chic," which felt correct since I'd just finished Girard's mimetic theory and figured I'd test whether a WASP man obsessed with his grandmother could be seduced by a woman dressed like his great-great-grandmother if she'd had access to genetic diversity and a Reformer Pilates membership. But then he said we were going to Moroccan food for a first date. Moroccan. As in eat with your hands like a middle school basement party where someone's mom buys Sabra hummus and hopes the Lord intervenes. I'd just moisturized with a cream so expensive it comes with quarterly performance reports--I'm not dragging my knuckles through a communal tagine, Oliver. Give me a fork or give me death. I pretended not to mentally model what marrying someone whose bloodline invented the concept of a by-appointment-only parlor would look like. Barthes would have a field day with that blazer--it's not clothing, it's a semiotic system signaling "my family has been avoiding the subway since 1904." When the food came, I had a full internal crisis. The tagine arrived steaming, communal, and clearly designed for hand-to-mouth contact. I could feel my manicurist's disappointment radiating from 20 blocks away. My cuticles have a fiduciary duty to remain pristine. So I daintily fork-ed every single dish like I was performing microsurgery on a Hermès bag, and Oliver said he liked a woman with "discipline," which is what men say right before they tell you their portfolio is 60% muni bonds. I smiled and stabbed a piece of lamb like I was commemorating a historical land acquisition. By dessert, he was fully leaning in, telling me he doesn't usually date "downtown girls," which I took as both a slur and a compliment. And honestly? The decor is ornate with a stunning ritzy ambiance that transports you to a Moroccan palace. The ceiling mirror and mosaic tiles are a sight to behold. A great place to take photos. The service is attentive and warm. The only reservation slots are 5:30, 7:30, and 9:30. I only realized later that the reservations are available on SevenRooms so I don't understand why they only keep 5:30 slots on Resy, which is what I booked and was difficult to make on a Friday evening in traffic. They should stick to one reservation app. The food was pretty authentic but not gourmet. The chicken tagine was piping hot and fresh but I've had better tagine. The Royal couscous was a stew with various meats like lamb and beef neither of which were cooked particularly well. The magic lamp cocktail is not worth $65. It tastes like a bitter Manhattan and the presentation did not merit the steep price tag. The climbing goats cocktail, on the other hand, was a delectable Mezcal concoction. What an experience, you immediately walk into a decor filled scene with North African vibes. The music and the show were energetic. Belly dancers balancing swords doing the splits and jamming music. The food was good very flavorful and delicious. The service could take a bit of time once things got going but whenever I needed a glass of champagne the waiter was always there. When my friend invited me to Ayah I was so excited! I was looking forward to a great atmosphere, delicious food and fun entertainment. Sadly we ended up with the opposite experience. For starters, we arrived promptly on time for our 7:30 reservation. We were told they were cleaning the table and we would be sat soon. Totally fine, no problem. They sat us around 7:45. Immediately when our waiter came over he told us we need to be quick with ordering because they need the table at 9:30. Each time he came back to the table he would say "ladies I told u I need the whole order we need this table at 9:30." He reminded us at least 3-4 times that they needed the table. His tone was not even friendly or apologetic. It was absolutely disrespectful and rude. Next, They put bread on the table when we arrived. We started eating it just like any group would do. We then ordered the $54 dip appetizer. When it arrived they said "dip the bread we gave you." As if we hadn't already been eating it? No pita or crudite? Maybe that's me being picky but for $54 worth of dip I expect something else to eat with it. They were tasty but portions were small for 4 people. We also ordered the couscous to share which was underwhelming. Lastly, we asked them about entertainment since that's why we came here. When you make the reservation online it doesn't provide a time on when the entertainment will start. When we asked them they said usually about 10:30pm but since it's Sunday it might be earlier around 10pm. We were disappointed since we were losing the table at 9:30 but they told us we could hang out and wait at the bar after. We drank at the bar until 10:45. No entertainment. When we asked them how much longer they said not sure maybe another 20-40 minutes. After that we left. I love going out to fancy restaurants. I don't mind spending the money for a nice experience but this was such a disappointment. When you're charging $22-30 for a cocktail and $50-200 for a plate of food I expect the service to be impeccable. Sad. Won't be back. read more

I came here tonight and I was genuinely blown away by how beautiful this restaurant is. I've lived in New York since 2016 and it's easily one of the prettiest spaces I've dined in. Our server, Paul, was incredibly knowledgeable and gave us great recommendations from the menu. We started with a salad with avocados, cilantro, and citrus notes. I don't remember the name, but I loved every bite. We then shared the chicken and olives with french fries, and the flavors were excellent. We went to this place as we have heard mixed reviews about it. I'll start with the good then work my way down. We were there to celebrate a birthday and I have to say the decor and overall ascetics weee great, good vibe, nice date night spot. Staff was friendly and fun. We order the tower appetizers- it came and was mostly cold which is okay- as most middle eastern sides and apps are, the issue we had was they served it with COLD bread, it wasn't even soft bread- seemed like a day old bread roll. Some feedback- it would've been a little better with toasted buttery bread(regardless of the type of bread/ or even pita). The menu was small and not many appealing things. We got the only chicken dish and a sausage dish for entrée- it was down right disgusting and made my stomach turn. Usually at restaurants even if the food isn't good, I'd still eat most of it- I kid you not, I ate two bits of this sausage and was just not good or well made ($30 btw) and my friends had the chicken dish which was essentially a sweet chicken potato pancake - with sugar on top. Things they do not tell you about Ayah: if you don't confirm your reservation ahead of time you will be cancelled with no notification. My friend was working all day, has a small toddler and also had a doctors appointment. Our 730 reservation was cancelled at 4PM because she missed the confirmation email. They claimed they texted, but she didn't get one-- we even checked the spam folder for her text messages. We showed up and were sent to the bar, the host initially saying she would let us know if something opened soon. There are no seat seats at the bar. I went back downstairs to ask for a timeframe and she came out with a big attitude saying " I told you it would be around 10:30". Excuse me? Why would I stand for 2 1/2 hours to wait to eat at this restaurant? They also have this very weird imposing, bouncer type man that stands at the door and got involved when we were giving feedback and started to yell at us. Why an upscale restaurant needs a bouncer is beyond me. I'll let you do the math for yourself. It seems he's been nasty to other guests as well from the other reviews. Additionally, the restaurant is absolutely nothing like they make it look online with these influencers. It's tiny and the host stand is pretty much by the door so there's a line of people waiting outside in the cold to check into their tables. I have never encountered such rude classless behavior from a restaurant and felt entirely duped by social media. I would steer clear of this place and I predict that with this type of service and attitude they won't last very long in New York City. A bouncer was brought over to enforce this, which felt intimidating and completely inappropriate for a restaurant setting. It left a very bad impression and ended the evening on an uncomfortable note. Overall, Ayah feels far more like a tourist trap than a genuine New York dining destination. The flashy decor and online ratings do not align with the reality of the food, drinks, or service. From the moment we walked in the service was outstanding... until dinner had started. (Shoutout to Courtnie!!) I should preface this was a Wednesday night reservation for 10pm. We started off ordering drinks which only 3/4 came... and we were celebrating my birthday which was the missing drink from the table which i found interesting! Appetizers were good ... the chhiwrat tower was lacking but the briouats were fantastic and had perfect flavor. Our bread for the salads took about 10 minutes to arrive to the table. Entrees were disappointing... none of the vegetables or meatballs(they tasted raw)in the couscous royal were tender enough, and the sauce was way too sweet for it to be moroccan. The only saving grace was the Chicken Tagine... but even that could've had more of the authentic moroccan flavor. Then our busboy tells us that the show isn't happening at all and that we missed it because it happened at 9pm. I had emailed the restaurant and received a response from Ryan stating that the bellydancers would be during the 10pm seating time. So i made my reservation for 930... ended up getting switched to a 10pm by the restaurant which I thought was done so that we could enjoy the show. Needless to say thats not what happened, and we had booked at that time only because we were told thats when the show was. Ambiance was great and somewhat made up for the lack of what we were promised. Manager was sweet and ended up removing an appetizer and gave free dessert & champagne. Maybe it is just because they opened, or maybe they just can't stick to their word... but I just don't see myself spending the time or money to come back here. We have this similar $250 bottle". F off. 7) 10pm after spending $2000 on food and paying bill. 1- 17 men trying to take our water orders. Making so much noise and weird banter. Constantly directing us and telling us where to put our bags and what to do and where to go 2- of course no one available when time to take our order 3-their bathrooms were not easily identifiable as men and women, got reprimanded for using the wrong one 4- more rules: order all food at once, they pulled the table away to get us to leave 5- the food was ho-hum. Definitely a beautiful space for TikTok IG crowd but not worth the visit. This place felt I was getting punished left and right by the people who worked there. Ayah in Soho is a brand new Moroccan restaurant and honestly I'm shocked there aren't any Yelp reviews yet. The place is stunning inside and the vibe is amazing. Service was super friendly and welcoming, which made the whole experience even better. We tried a bunch of dishes and everything was delicious. The couscous royal was perfect, the chicken pastilla was full of flavor, and the fraisier blew me away. I'm happy to be the first to review because this spot definitely deserves the love. "I think the place is too pretentious to be a high end restaurant. I went with a group of friends for our holiday dinner and we had gifts for each other. One of my friends brought his gifts in Target shopping bags. The person at the door asked that he hides the target bag under coats as it is off-brand with the restaurant! I think that is insulting, judgmental and pretentious especially when some people in the restaurant were in tshirts and sneakers! Btw, our bill was almost $1,000 (for the 5 of us including tax and tip). Was that off-brand too? We were also asked to leave after 2 hrs (which we knew when we booked the restaurant) but changed their mind when they found out we wanted another bottle of wine (we had 3 bottles, btw). With this awful experience, I don't even remember the food. It might hv been forgettable, nothing special. Never again and will never recommend this restaurant. read more

The food is really expensive & not worth the price of the food. For the price of the food the portions are very small. The ambiance is nice. Great place to take photos. They had belly dancers and the employees dancing the whole night. The service was ok. I didn't like how we were being rushed out of the establishment when they got close to closing. While the restaurant has a nice ambiance everything else is below mediocre. We went last night with 3 girls to celebrate my friends engagement. The server rushed us the entire time. When we asked to have 5 minutes to finish our food/ drinks before ordering dessert he responded with no too late, I need to seat the next party. While I understand that restaurants these days might have a time limit we were rushed from the minute we sat down which btw was 30 min later than our reservation time. The food was cold, overpriced and flavorless. We asked for warm bread, the waiter disappeared w our bread basket and never came back. The drinks for expensive, tasteless, and filled with more ice cubes than liquid. Overall terrible experience. I do not recommend this place at all. The only thing I would recommend is for the cook to pick up some spices at kalustyan and order some cookbooks of Amazon Correction to the one star review The deserve 5 Persian eggs ( for their Tokhmee food and service ) read more
