Our hotel was located on Steinway St. in Astoria, and there were so many choices on Steinvway St, but we were attracted to Little Morocco because of the line winding out the door and down the street. Most of the customers were taking food home (It was Iftar, during Ramadan), but the line went fast. When it was our turn, we were greeted by the host, who explained the menu options (this was our first time with tagine). We chose the lamb shank, Baba Ghanoush, a delicious tomato soup. Food came quickly, and was so delicious. You order, then find a table, and they bring the food over. We wanted to order a tagine, but we could tell by the dishes others were having that we wouldn't be able to finish any more! Each dish was exceptional! The lamb was well seasoned, the rice perfectly cooked, and the peas were a great veggie. The BG was different, smooth and very eggplant. The soup was spicy and tasty. The best part was the festive spirit of the Little Morocco; the family next to us were Moroccon and explained a little more about the food, shared some of the goodies that they got for dessert, and just made it a wonderful experience. Then the owner came over to make sure we were well taken care of, explained that the BG in Morocco was different than what we might be used to, and brought over some delightful sweets, and mint tea to go with it, to make it a great meal. Delicious and cheap Moroccan food! It's also Halal. The inside is a bit cramped with a couple of stool seating, but there are outdoor tables. I had the merguez sandwich, chicken tagine, and sweet paratha all for under $20. They were all delicious! The lamb merguez sandwich was flavorful and not dry. The bread was also very good, slightly crispy on the outside and not hard. I didn't even need a drink to wash it down. The tagine dishes comes with rice and two vegetable sides (potatoes and peas) which were all delicious. I came in Friday night with my boo. You know what that means, COUSCOUS! We sat in there covered outdoor space and when the food was brought to the table and I was pleasantly surprised. Two ginormous plates of couscous with meat and vegetables, topped off with sweet mixture of caramelized onions and raisins. We also got a side of harira soup because it was a freezing and we needed something to warm us up. The food was delicious! Everything was well seasoned and so tender. The wait time was long, which was a little frustrating since I was in a hurry. I ordered the Merguez sandwich, which was pretty cheap (well under $10). I wanted an actual Morroccan meal dish (such as with Couscous) but they were either unavailable or overpriced (depending on what I asked about), and a lot of them were sitting out buffet-style so that didn't seem worth the steep-ish prices. Which is why I plumped for the sandwich. My notes say that this sandwich was "nice but not amazing" which is exactly how I feel about it. Also I love olives, and I asked if olives were on the sandwich and he said "okay." I guess he must have thought I meant no olives, because there were no olives on there. I would have probably enjoyed it more if there were. My partner loved it, and I did enjoy it to some degree, but I think part of my issue was that the Merguez really didn't taste of anything. I can't really remember what Merguez is supposed to taste like, but I remember it having a very unique flavour, whereas this was a very bland meat. A nice sandwich, but nothing more than nice. And if you're used to having 6 and 7 inches to play with at night, but you want some Latin guys who are more like an "8", then what you need is a "Little More Ocho." read more

When the weather is nice, many people chill in outside seating but when it's cold it seems like many people just quick eat and go so more people will be able to eat there. I never got tajine with tajine plate before but I go there often enough? I always get tajine plate now. It helps food to stay hot. I don't know how they decide the price. One day very very low price. One day it gets little more but still good price. Sometimes I get little bothered by getting defferent prices from the same food I ordered before. The food is worth the price anyway. Many workers don't speak good English but they are all very nice and friendly. Please just be patient. There are few table in the cramped space indoors, so eating outside is definitely preferred if dining in. I ordered the lamb shank tagine ($12), which also came with similar sides. We absolutely loved our orders. The lamb was so tender and flavorful, as were the vegetables. More disappointing as the msemen bread, which was heated upon request but came out very dry and somewhat hard. I think it had been sitting out for a while, and was not fresh, soft, crispy, and flaky as I was expecting from my time in Marrakech. Msemen to this day is the one of the things I remember most about my time in Morocco in 2009, and I seek it out whenever I can. This version, alas, was a far cry from perfection. I thought I was going to receive rice but I only got a small normal bread to eat with it. What a waste of money, the lamb did not even taste good. In fact, every Friday since I've tried this, I've thought "SHIT, I'm missing MFn Lamb Shank and Couscous!!!" Imagine this... The most moist and flavorful couscous of your life, COVERED with a freshly made lamb shank Complete with Bone Marrow, a few hundred chick peas, carrots, onions, and squash (I think it's squash, this is the only thing I can think of). $10 for this huge plate of food. I give LM 4 stars for the merguez sandwich and 2 stars for the lamb kebab sandwich. The merguez was flavorful and soft but the lamb kebab wasn't consistent. Some of the pieces were dry and chewy. The sandwiches came on a hero accompanied with the usual trio of lettuce, onions and tomatoes. I've been here twice now and both times there was some guy in there causing a ruckus. Different guys each time but equally noisy. Only they know what it was all about cos they were speaking Arabic. The merguez is still awesome, and I really liked the falafel sandwich also. I was a little nervous about the green olives, but the combo worked. Just go here already. If there's only one thing slightly close to a negative, it's that my old apartment was not that far away (maybe 15 minute walk) and they said they wouldn't deliver there.
