One of the best Moroccan restaurant in NJ. 1) I very much enjoyed the Fez Tajine (lamb + potato) and the Marrakesh Tajine (lamb + artichokes). We also got the Casablanca Tajine (lamb + prunes), which is their most popular Tajine, but my Indian taste buds did not enjoy the sweetness of the dish. 2) Got the bastilla pie, it was unique, but sweet for my taste. 3) Must get us the Moroccan mint tea. After our dinner last night, I told the owner that I was going to write a review, and it would begin, "BIG YUMMY!" I mean it. That area is a wasteland of chain dining, so to find this restaurant was a delight. Appropriate music and decor, and fine service. I ordered the vegetable tagine, which was full of colorful tender root vegetables in a savory broth (and rich-tasting olives) not too spicy but deeply flavorful. My wife had the shrimp kebab, which, again, was simple food done with care and attention. Splendid ingredients and scorching hot. Highly recommend Casablanca! We were four couples there for the first time and we all loved it! The decor is just beautiful! The wait staff was so attentive, patient and helpful. They assisted and poured the wine that we brought. Half of us ordered the lamb - 'Casablanca Tajine' and 'Kasba Tajine' and the lamb just fell away from the shank bone, it was so tender. It was so flavorful and delicious! The salmon and the vegetarian tajines were also enjoyed. Each with a large side of either mashed sweet potatoes, cous cous, or saffron rice. The starter soup, 'Harira' was really good too! When we were done, our waiter poured us Moroccan mint tea, which was a perfect ending. We were too full for dessert, but it looked yummy! read more

I made a reservation, but had to change it to a half hour earlier the day before and they were very accommodating and polite. We came here as a group of four, and seeing that we had bottles of wine (they're BYOB) they brought out wine glasses and uncorked for us right away. We ordered a couple of appetizers and four of the clay pots. Note--this was way too much food for four people! We got the two person sampler, and the shrimp appetizer dish and by the time we got that done, we were halfway full. I would definitely recommend the sampler though--it's nice to taste a little bit of everything. The clay pots, though they looked very similar, had their own recognizable flavors. I would say for a group of four, the two person sampler and two of the clay pots would have been sufficient. We stayed way longer than a group should, and almost until closing. Recently, while looking for something different for a group dinner, I remembered that I had Casablanca bookmarked for some time. Our group of 7 found everything from the food, service to the ambiance to be wonderful. It was the first Moroccan experience for some of my friends. The portion sizes were large and I loved the presentation of the foods served in the Tangine (Moroccan clay vessel used to stew meats and vegetables). I ordered the Atlas Tangine and the hubby got the Nomad Tagine. Both were very good, with a slightly different flavor to them. The entrees come with the choice of rice or other side. Prior to dinner, the complimentary pita was warm, fresh and delicious. We didn't have room for dessert, so I will need to go back again and eat less pita and save room for dessert. read more

It's been a hot minute since I've been here, but unfortunately that is going to last. Fortunately I took some notes to help me write this. Food: High 4 stars, could pass for 5. I've had better Moroccan but this is certainly good food overall. For a country that is spices, flavors were a little underdefined for me and that costs a bit. Atmosphere: A bit cramped but passable. Service: 1 star. Owner harshly told me not to take a photo of the kitchen area. I thought it was nice they were lighting a cake. Nope, apparently that is not nice. Ramadan fasters got dates to break their fasts. No dates for me (in 2 ways). Kinda ruins the holiday mood, right? And the waitstaff was not attentive to me, for example with water refill. I almost felt like they were treating me lesser because I'm not one of their people, at least at that point. Verdict: Food can be good, but a bad experience ruins it all. And because it's the owner himself who caused the trouble, nothing anyone says to me will change my mind. read more

Because it was Sunday and we didn't have the pre-fix or belly dancing, but that was totally okay with all of us. Salad platter for sharing, hummus, Moroccan Cigars with shrimp, soups and it was all delicious--- pacing ourselves we had to order our entrees, I went with the Kasbah Tajine with lamb, hubby ordered the chicken bastilla, Son had the Medina Tajine with Salmon, his girlfriend got the Atlas Tagine with chicken and pears and Mini-Me went with the 2 chicken kabobs. Dinner was absolutley delicious, it has been such a long time since we had Moroccan food and it was simply delightful, our family really enjoyed it and even though we knew dessert was coming, we really couldn't stop eating... but alas the Moroccan Mint Tea was calling our name, and this is a tea, we drink daily in our home, I brew a large pot of it and everyone drinks it after dinner or before bed, it's comforting and relaxing. Dessert of course was Baklava, I love the corners so they induldged my request, we also had the cheesecake with strawberries and the Ricotta Sponge cake. First of all when you walk into this place, it is so colorful and filled with beautiful decorations. You would have never known from the outside. Came here after a bridesmaid's dress fitting. We got there pretty much when they opened so we were the only ones in the restaurant. The service was great and they suggested we try the mint tea. The tea was good after a filling meal. I always see this place when I get Chinese food next door - so decided to try this place out for the first time and did delivery. Their food was okay but I wouldn't rave about it. Ordered the lamb shank tajine, which is a huge platter for 2. The lamb was cooked properly and had good flavor but I wasn't a fan of the rice or veggies cooked underneath. Ordered calamari too, I didn't like that. Was soggy and mostly tentacles. Good dips for it though. I'd prob try them out again later on in life but just not anytime soon. read more

When you walk into Casablanca the first thing you see is a beautiful mosaic tiled fountain welcoming you into this lovely space. Try and sit in one of the round corner tables. They are exquisite and the seating is very comfortable. Since the entrees sounded so tempting, my daughter and I skipped the appetizers and instead ordered three main dishes. I highly recommend sharing. They are known for their tajine, so we ordered two and also the chicken bastilla. Lamb tajine with potatoes, olives, and lemon- very good. Lamb was melt in your mouth tender. Normally I don't love large potato pieces, but these had so much flavor Chicken tajine with pears, caramelized onions, and honey- super dish. The chicken are boneless breasts which I wasn't expecting, but they really worked. The meat was juicy and flavorful. The pears were super soft, and complimented the chicken perfectly. Chicken bastilla- mind blowingly fantastic. You must order this dish. It's an absolute flavor bomb. Shredded chicken, almonds, parsley, cilantro, cinnamon all wrapped in crispy phyllo dough with a dusting of powdered sugar. Sweet and savory heaven. The service was very friendly and helpful. I also recommend the mint tea. Served in a beautiful pot, the tea was minty and not too sweet. Even the complimentary pita was divine. Buttery, pillowy perfection. Go and try this place. Casablanca is hands down the best Moroccan food I have had in NJ. It reminded me of the some of my favorite food I had Marrakesh. The portions are massive (I had leftovers for days). The appetizers could easily be shared with a group of 4. For my vegetarians out there: this is the BEST falafel I have tasted in a long time, and hands down the best vegetable tagine. We ordered 2 appetizers. The falafel & fried calamari. The fried calamari was a solid 2/10. No flavor, tasted like frozen calamari, overcooked/ almost rubbery texture. The sauces that came with it were good. The falafel was a 5/10. Average taste/ flavor. Undercooked on the inside. The tahini on the side was practically water. Extremely runny & no flavor whatsoever. My husband ordered the Fez Tagine, with saffron rice. It was a 8.5/10. Flavors were amazing. Lamb shank could've been slightly more tender. But overall an amazing experience. I ordered the lamb couscous. I give it a 5/10. The lamb was flavorful & falling off the bone. Very tender & juicy. The vegetables were nicely flavored & cooked to perfection. The reason why I gave it a 5 is because the couscous was not fresh. Some parts tasted bad and had a slimy texture. I couldn't finish eating it & I was looking forward to that dish for so long. Overall, a great experience. Not a lot to add that already hasn't been said. But to reinforce, the facility is beautiful, clean, and very comfortable. Party of three, we went on a Tuesday evening with a reservation, which was not necessary. We were the first to arrive at 6:00 pm. Filled about three or four more tables over the next hour+. We were warmly greeted, and warmly and efficiently served. Attention was totally appropriate, well paced, filling water, clearing plates, asking if everything is OK, or if we needed anything else. The food was beyond description. We started with the Moroccan Salad Sampler for 2 - ample for 3. Main selections included the Fez (lamb), Marrakesh (lamb), and Mogador (cod) tajines. All were exceptional. I found the preserved lemon bits to be amazing, with an intense, powerful explosion of taste. Be aware (if you didn't look at the Yelp photos) the "lamb" is a large shank, loaded with moist, tender meat. Definitely will return to try the many other choices. Our dessert choices were the Pistachio Ricotta cake, and Baklava - yum! Finished the desserts, but took home nice portions of the three tajines. Can't think of anything that could have been done better. Parking in the strip mall is generally not a problem. Traffic gets heavy on Friday and Saturday nights between the nearby Chinese restaurant, the luncheonette, and the liquor store. I suspect the interior might become a bit noisy with a full house. The conversations from the other tables were noticeable with just a few occupied. Maybe with more tables occupied, it would be even more very "festive". read more

I am always looking to try new restaurants. We had the perfect opportunity after a fundraising event that took place at the JMPAC located at the middle school just a couple minutes away. More on that later! Service was outstanding. The owners and the staff were so friendly and helpful, giving us lots of good recommendations. Upon being seated they brought us warm pita with a dish of feta cheese, grapes and olives (I think my son would have been happy just eating that!). Our group of 9 ordered family style, selecting several appetizers and some main courses. Every dish was outstanding. The Moroccan Salad was a highlight - a mix of several veggie items all beautifully displayed. I generally am not a huge falafel fan, but this falafel was delicious. Most importantly, everything was FRESH! Everything was topped off with a lovely tea and baklava for dessert. We will most certainly be back to see the belly dancers on the weekend! Food is a wonderful way to learn about other cultures without getting on a plane. This restaurant provides an immersive experience, with everything served on the most lovely plates I have seen, and the ambiance provided by the decor. Clearly the owners took pride and worked hard to provide an immersive experience. Now, what makes this place really special, is that the owners are committed members of the community. Remember that fundraising event I mentioned? The owner, Moussa, participated as a "Celebrity Dancer" in the East Brunswick Education Foundation's celebrity dance-off, which raises funds that are then distributed as grants back to East Brunswick Public Schools. As the owner of two restaurants in town, I'm sure Moussa has plenty of things to keep him busy - but he made the time to support a worthy cause. The event raised over $55k that night! read more

Mediterranean cuisine has never tasted this good. Really! Try their authentic tajines, slow cooked and very savory stews. The piping hot meat or veggie tajine coming out of the pot is piping hot. As you might've guessed, the meat falls right off the bone. Tender and holding its own flavor with the ginger, cumin, turmeric, cinnamon, and saffron that go with the sauce. Their Moroccan salad sampler is a great appetizer as well. I brought my vegan friend here and he was quite impressed with the flavor: Marinated beets, sliced carrots with cauliflower, tomato and pepper salad, eggplant, and hummus. Falafel tastes great, made in house. Tahini sauce has a very concentrated nut taste. This ain't your watered down tahini! PITA BREAD has a very different taste versus other Mediterranean restaurants. It's very seasoned and flavorful. Last dish I want to commemorate was the chicken pastilla. Meat pie galore, it's sweet and salty. The combination works so well in taste and as a stand alone meal! Crispy filo dough with marinated pulled chicken, filled with a grounded layer of spiced crushed almonds. The surface is decorated with more cinnamon and powdered sugar. MOROCCAN MINT TEA, GET IT. Friends recommended we try this restaurant that is in a strip center. A real fun night. We went on a Saturday night when the menu is price fixed and limited but they also have a belly dancer. My first thought was ugh, she is going to get me up to dance. She Did. But it was fun as she went from table to table urging others up as well. All good natured, she didn't force anyone. Only two seatings a night on Saturday, we went for the 8:00. Very friendly on reception. We were first served a Moroccan Sampler of Marinated beets, carrots, tomato & pepper salad, zalouk and hummus along with a basket of warm pita bread triangles. Came here on 4/2 for a late lunch early dinner, the place was completely empty. For starters we tried the zalouk, a cold eggplant salad that goes well with the bread, and the Moroccan cigars (veggie and shrimp options). Both dishes were fantastic and make sure to save those dipping sauces. With the entrees we tried the Atlas Tajine, Kasbah Tajine, Casablanca Tajine and chicken bastilla. All of it was amazing and we were able to share among the four of us. Best part was all the food reheats very well the next day, though you may not want to stop eating! But save room for dessert, because the pistachio cake and lemon mascarpone are heavenly, as well as the Moroccan mint tea. This was our second visit but it will not be our last. I ordered: Chicken Couscous, lamb Couscous, chicken Brochette, Casablanca Tajine and Sahara Tajine. The Sahara Tajine was made of thin chicken filets instead of the normal chicken chunks. The Moroccan salad was an excellent starter with fresh warm bread and then the Lamb Kasbah was delicious, the meat just fell off the bone. We liked it so much we picked it up a Chicken Tajine for lunch. Oh forgot about the dessert the pistachio cake was good followed by a complimentary mint tea to go with it. Just enjoyed a wonderful lunch at this hidden gem in an unassuming strip mall somewhere in New Jersey! It's a rainy Sunday afternoon and we are driving from the Shore to Northwest Jersey. In from Atlanta for a friend's wedding, we're not familiar with the area so we jumped on Yelp to find lunch. The great reviews led us to Casablanca, and we weren't disappointed! We were the only diners in the place at the time, and the owner took great care of us. Moroccan Mint Tea was the perfect warm-up upon coming in from the rain. We enjoyed a yummy felafel appetizer and split a chicken tagine and artichoke olive salad. The tagine was flavorful, tender and warming, just as it should be. The salad was fresh and nicely balanced out the warm flavors of the rest of the meal. The restaurant is beautifully decorated with items brought in from Morocco - it's perfectly ornate and authentic without feeling overdone. We've found our new favorite Moroccan restaurant! Back in 2018 we went to Marrakesh, Morocco and ever since have been on a Moroccan kick. This place is about 40 min drive from home, and well worth it. The owners are sweet and very personable, provide great service and I enjoy chatting with them. The decor is cool, walls strung with Moroccan artifacts. We've been a couple of times over the last few weeks and look forward to going back. Over several visits, we've tried all the tangines, and you can't really go wrong with any of them - all delicious! We do recommended the Sarhara chicken tangine and the Casablanca lamb tangine. The salad sampler for two is amazing- the veggies are marinated leaving your taste buds exploding with flavor. The salad is a huge portion (could be a meal in itself). The pita that comes with the meal doesn't taste like a typical grocery store pita, it's 100x better, my son loves it! The wife loves the mint tea, a pleasant reminder of Marrakesh. After reading about the success of Casablanca and their other restaurant, I was beyond happy with my choice. The restaurant is located in a shopping plaza, which my GPS had me going in circles to find. Look for CVS entrance ! The interior of the restaurant is magnificent, comfortable seating, beautiful tile and lovely decoration. Due to limited number of tables available for dinning inside, each party was able to be beyond 6 feet apart and the hostess had to turn away another group due limited seating. Lovely presentation of appetizers and the main meal was also very well plated and tasted delicious. BYOB, so hop next door to liquor store and grab a bottle of red to go with your meal. That moment when the two of you are viewing the menu, you pick up your head to take a look at your date but he's already staring at you. You know then that he might be someone special. Not only is this place good for larger groups but I think it makes a nice first date. It's exotic and it feels like you've stepped into Morocco. Sorry, I tend to spoil my only child. What caught our eyes were these dishes cooked in Tajines. That word alone had me excited. Being the foodies that we are, we're always up for anything that we never had. We ordered the cod and chicken dish. When each one came to the table, I couldn't help but admire how each Tajine looked different and how pretty the ceramics were. A side of yellow rice is served along with your entree. The juices from both these stewed dishes is what made these dishes stand out for us. The cod and chicken were tender and we loved all the veggie accompaniments that came along with it. We poured the juices over our yellow rice. The owner went out of her way to chat with us on multiple occasions and told us some lovely stories. She is not Moroccan but her husband and the entire cooking staff are. The husband (owner) came by to ask how we liked everything a couple of times. They are the nicest people. All the decor in the restaurant are imported from Morocco. Yelp check-in for a free dessert. We got the baklava and the mint tea. When I told the owner that it was the best mint tea I've ever had, she said that's it's not just any mint tea. She told me that it's green tea infused with mint leaves.
