I would not come back here. The food servings did not match the cost of what I ordered, for what my mother-in-law ordered, and for what my sister-in-law ordered. My fiancé's Genghis Khan Ramen tasted like canned chicken soup. As I finished pouring the pitcher of water into my glass cup, I noticed some black sediment pour out, disgusting! We told the waitress about it and all she came up with was that it might be the dust looming over our table that fell down. The servers don't actually come by and check on you. You have to ring a bell for them to come by and see how things are going. We ordered 6 different meals and each meal arrived at random times. So as I was already halfway through my meal, my partner then had received hers and that same momentum is was carried on until the last person's order was delivered to our table. With the weather getting colder in the South Bay, I've been craving ramen more than ever. I'm always on the hunt for a great ramen spot, and that's how I discovered Ayan. Ayan offers an impressive variety of ramen, including some unique options that immediately caught my eye. For instance, they serve Genghis Khan Ramen, a Mongol-style ramen with wheat noodles; Cheese Ramen with Chicken, featuring a mix of espuma parmesan, cheddar, and mozzarella cheeses; and Mongolia Dark Ramen, made with beef tripe. I decided to try their Cheese Ramen with Chicken, priced at $16. Beyond ramen, Ayan boasts a diverse menu blending various cuisines. They offer Mongolian dumplings, Tom Yum soups, pho, poke bowls, pasta, bao burgers, and even steaks--a true fusion haven! My friend and I shared the Mongolian Khuushuur (2 for $7), a deep-fried Mongolian dumpling, while my friend also ordered the Carbonara Noodles (lunch portion, $12). Last but not least, we ended the meal with the delightful Buuz Mochi with Mango. Filled with Philadelphia cream cheese, Thai mango, and passion fruit, this dessert was absolutely drool-worthy! "Asian fusion" in the south bay? Well, honestly, that usually isn't... For Asians. But I was excited because there aren't many Mongolian places in Los Angeles, and especially Torrance after Nadima's closed. Except... This menu doesn't really have much Mongolian on it. It's ironically looking closer to the Taiwanese invented "Mongolian BBQ" than Mongolian for the noodles. I was looking forward to thick, chewy handmade or hand pulled noodles and there was none of that. The various dumplings (fried, steamed , handpie shaped) were tasty although none of them burst with liquid. We also didn't get the sauce or side of veggies I see in pictures for takeout. The fries were underdone, maybe because we went during an off hour. I was excited to see no caffeine drink options and got a honey chamomile milk tea, only to be completely baffled by the bright pink drink with whipped cream. It did taste of tea and was tasty, I think they just subbed strawberry syrup for honey and didn't tell us. The baked eggplant ended up being our favorite dish and felt strangely closer to Mongolian food with the mayo. The veggie filling was my favorite of the dumplings. I didn't expect to ever say vegetable dishes were my favorite at a place with Mongolian food but here we are! Our Russian server helped us navigate through their mixture of Asian cuisines which included a strong leaning towards Mongolian flavors. I can't and won't forget the braised pork ribs from Ayan because they all fell off the bone with no effort. The sauce was semi-sweet and the meat was so tender, making the combo irresistible. Fries as a side was a bit peculiar but it worked since the saltiness balanced the sweetness. The other must-order dish is the Mongolian buuza dumplings with 33 folds. It's stuffed to the brim and incredibly juicy. The garlic beans as a side dish were just alright and the noodles with minced kurobuta pork and beef with chili oil was not my personal favorite. I expected it to be similar to the Chinese version but it was tomato-forward which threw me off. It wasn't bad, especially since the noodles were very chewy, but it reminded me more of a bolognese. First off, the service here is very attentive and quick. If anything they have a button which would call a server over to you shortly. I assume this is a newer spot and there wasn't that many customers here on a Saturday. What I can say is that the food is good, its Asian fusion so they have selection from Japanese, Korean, Vietnamese, Chinese, you name it. Winner was definitely the marinated tea egg because they know how to make it right (yolky and strong soy flavor). (4/5) Pork Chop Fried Rice - Their batter on the pork chop is perfect. Crispy and flavorful, I could just eat the pork chop itself. The fried rice was nothing too special. It was a basic egg fried rice, but it didn't have that much flavor. Overall rice was okay, pork chop was fire. (4/5) Matcha Ais Bao - So interesting but flavor packed. Its ice cream put into a bread. I enjoyed this and would recommend but make sure to get it at the end because the ice cream melts fast (5/5) Buzza Mochi with mango and passion fruit - This is a fun dish and I was surprised that it was made with mochi. Delicious new spot in North Redondo Beach. For those who are familiar with the area, it's honestly a bit tough to shake the Denny's vibe. Although, they did their best to make it look nice inside. There's a really wide range of foods from noodles to burgers on the pictured menu, so I really didn't know what to expect. I was pleasantly surprised at how delicious the food was. I wish the best for new restaurants, especially if they're trying to be affordable. That doesn't change with this review. Ayan took the building that was a Denny's in lot next to a gas station with a car wash, Hertz, Rite Aid, and smaller shops. They kept the shape of the sign so you can tell they re-purposed as much as possible... Probably to save on cost. The interior was redecorated with bamboo wood floors, tables, and other things in an attempt at a contemporary effortless design. Remove that and you can tell it used to be a diner. There's plenty of parking as no one goes to this shopping plaza. Most of the cars are Hertz rentals. Each table has a ringer just like most Korean restaurants. Plus a box with utensils. No condiments whatsoever, which you have to ask for or they bring it out if they think it fits what you ordered. I ordered the spicy ramen (pictured). It is a bit spicy. I wasn't asked what's spice level so I don't think it can change. They did give me a bottle of Sriracha. The description said rolled pork. I wasn't expecting mini hamburger patties. The patties tasted good but it was very odd with ramen. The egg was tasty too, but again the flavoring didn't match the dish. The mushrooms tasted like Chinese mushrooms but weren't. So that threw me off again. The bok choy was ok as well as the corn, sprouts, and green onions. The broth was definitely not a ramen broth. It was missing something. Everything but the mushrooms were okay ... by itself. Together, oddly, it wasn't as great which is really weird. Also, who puts Sriracha on ramen? Should be a chili oil. The place is marketed as "Asian cuisine". It should be "Asian fusion" as that's really what it is. Asians don't have burgers and fries. They're mixing things from different cultures, which isn't a bad thing but it doesn't feel or taste like they figured out the right combinations and mixes yet. They need more work finding the right mix. Staff was nice. Payment was via Toast. I scanned the QR code and paid with my digital wallet online. It was Happy Hour 3p-6p so I ordered the Sweet & Sour Baby Pork Ribs $5 with a Ozeki Hot Sake $3.50 and both are delicious at a great price. Then for my main dish I got the Orange Chicken $17 and Shrimp Fried Rice $18 both also very yummy with good portions that I took home for a later snack. Lots of items on the menu to choose from and when your ready to order or you need a server you just push a button on the table. I almost ever give bad reviews because I love supporting local businesses, but I have an obligation to be honest with my fellow Yelpers. I came in during "Soft Opening" and ordered to-go. I ordered the large Tom Yum Soup with chicken and shrimp ($16) and as soon as I back to my car I heard a loud pop, which I later found out was the lid and soup spilled all over the bag. As someone who has been to Thailand and can make Tom Yum Kha from scratch, this was really watery. The chicken tasted like dried cubed chicken breast, and there were only came with 3.5 pieces of shrimp. I also ordered the Bao (burger) with chicken and kimchi ($8). The bun was soggy from being drowned in way too much kimchi styled cabbage. The fried chicken was dry, coated in too much batter, and super greasy. We did not finish eating it. We had a school event that ran late. Late as in most of our local restaurants are already closed by 9pm. Fortunately Ayan was still open and serving food. Although we were late, they were really nice and sat us at a booth right away. I love what they did with the decor to transition it from the old Denny's location. I love the eclectic pan Asian menu. The beef Mongolian Khuushuun with the noodle/veggie topping was perfectly crispy and large enough to share. Would definitely order that again. The tonkatsu ramen broth was nice and came in fairly high in our kids ramen rankings. Particularly the piece of tonkatsu itself was fork tender and received high marks. Similarly the Chicken Katsu was crispy on the outside and nicely seasoned on the inside. What made this dish float high on the kid-friendly list was the fried rice: simply seasoned with spring onions and egg (our kids don't like peas or carrots so this was a huge plus). The Tom Yum was good. Served mild (unlike any other Tom yum) with a bottle of chili sauce to season to each individuals taste. The Noodles with salmon, shrimp & spinach were cooked in a creamy pink sauce (which was good, but not Mongolian wok fried noodles as I expected). Being a soup dumpling they were very large and hard to eat and didn't have a lot of soup in them. And I don't even know how to describe it, but I couldn't handle more than one bite, and I did not enjoy the smell of them. The third appetizer we had were their chicken wings in a Korean sauce, which was the best of the appetizers, but really that is not saying anything. They kind of reminded me of chicken wings that you reheated -- a little soggy and just not good. Two of my friends tried the burgers, and both said they were hard to eat and just not good at all. And I shared the fried noodles with teriyaki with a different friend. I don't know where this teriyaki was, but it was not in the bowl. They tasted vaguely like garlic noodles, but it was kind of greasy and again not enjoyable. One of my friends had been before and she had been saying that it was really good so that's why we decided to go, but at the end of the dinner she told me that the food quality has dramatically decreased since she first went and it was not good at all. The overall experience wasn't that good, and there's definitely room for improvement. The service, albeit friendly, lacked experienced competency with 1/3 of our table having their orders totally neglected where dishes were brought to the table in an oddly staggered manner. Usually most restaurants try to serve tables all at once in unison. So, as dish 1 came out, then later another and another, it was 30 minutes from the 1st serving to an absence of service with hungry patrons at the table where we had to ask for a status update several times and were considering just leaving and paying the bill as guests at our table were on the verge of throwing tantrums and just wanting to get out and go to some fast food drive through instead to eat, as most of the guests at the table were served and finished with their entrees. Pretty horrible. The smart thing they could, would and should have done is offer those unserved some sort of complimentary appetizer or beverage, but maybe these are all line workers who have zero decision making powers, less experience or might be dense in customer satisfaction tactics. The food was "okay" and I'd give the prices, portions and quality a solid * * * three star "A-Okay", it's not destination dining where we'd ever crave it to come back as a pointed effort. However, if friends/family wanted to dine here, we'd not object to coming back and giving them another try. It seemed odd from the start in that the place was empty. When we tried to call the phone number listed on Yelp, it went to an unserviceable phone, then we did a Google search and finally found a valid number to call. Google tried to get us to make reservations online too. Then, although it seems to be pitched as an "Asian" (Mongolian influence?) or "Asian Fusion" restaurant it seemed that all of the staff were East European, young (so, possibly inexperienced) and maybe on student visas or immigrants that were ESL (English as a Second Language), so it's possible there's a cultural and communication gap to why the service was off. I remember this location formerly being a Denny's with a nice "Diner" throwback feel and design, it was a good clean location. So, curiosity brought us to Ayan and now that we've experienced it, we're not quite sure if we'd return because the South Bay has so many restaurants clamoring to earn customer business and repeat dinning loyalty, I'm not sure if Ayan is prepared or experienced enough yet to vie for that status. My opinion is they probably need an experienced on site manager who can run the operations day to day as well as make the necessary changes to get the place on the right track to success. read more

We ordered through the website successfully though. I don't really think I've ever seen my wife not finish her food. She ordered a Mongolian Noodle dish with egg and some kind of ground beef. The ground beef was baffling...I once made meatballs for my 6 month old that were supposed to contain nothing, just ground beef. Dry, no seasoning, gray on the inside. These were just like that: they tasted horrible, maybe defrosted. I ordered Pepper Tender Beef which tasted decent but was inexplicably expensive (almost $27) for a pretty small portion. They might have used decent quality beef to warrant such a price but the way its prepared in this dish it doesn't seem to matter--it's stewed or velveted? I couldn't help but feel like I could have ordered something just as good from say Ruiji for cheaper. All in all we basically paid $50 for two pretty bad Asian dishes in one of the best known areas for pretty good Asian food. I don't generally write bad reviews but $50 is a lot of money for what we got and I'm pretty irritated about it. Judging by the tons of positive Yelp reviews perhaps we just happened to order the "wrong" things, in which case I'd hope the owners would rein in their menu a little. I wish them success. read more

I am not sure how I feel about this place as the food is pretty tasty but the atmosphere is very strange. I have been three times now so I made sure to give it a fair shot prior to posting my review. Each time I have ordered something different, the ramen here is good, pricey but good, the Mongolian noodles were nothing special to be honest, and I feel like they were a very similar taste to bolognese. The service is very unappealing to me, and there is a button on the table for you to press if you need someone and I feel like I had a hard time communicating with the servers each time I went. Don't get me wrong the servers were all very kind, but my experience with the service was just odd. The deserts were really tasty and the kitty cat panna Cota was my favorite (pic posted below). My kids seem to think this place is fun so I'm sure I'll be back but it isn't top on my list. read more

I tried the Bao Burger when Ayan first opened several months ago. I've been dreaming about it ever since. The beef is high quality and super juicy. The Bao bun is somewhat delicate so with the amazing combo of signature sauce and pickled cucumbers it does get a little messy! That's ok with me! The menu is the perfect combinations of stir fry, ramen, Pho, Tom-Yum, poke bowls, and Mongolian dumplings. And if you want a salad, that's not boring either! Obviously it's an Asian Fusion Restaurant. Nothing was authentic. However, over all food quality was great. They brought out our order super quick, too. Spicy ramen was too spicy for my family. New restaurant, decided to give them a try, after looking at the menu online was not sure if this would be good or not, they are described as Asian fusion, but I would say they are just Asian, they have multiple types of Asian cuisine. At first glance the prices may see a little pricey but given the portion sizes the prices are pretty reasonable. Staff was friendly and attentive, food was hot and fresh. Will have to go back and try some other menu items. Dinner for two with tax and tip was $70.00 so in line with other higher end ramen shops in the area. read more

If you come here, I would stick to the dumplings (Buuza) and ramen. This place is modern, clean and hip with a nice mix of music playing in the background. A fusion of a little everything and confusing to your taste pallet. We had the spicy ramen which is very spicy and the tonkatsu ramen both very good and very generous portions. Dumplings are 2 times the size and different tasting from a traditional Chinese dumpling. The Khuushuur is very similar to an empanada. The grilled sea-bass, my pallet didn't know what to think. The grilled sea bass was a bit teriyaki, potatoes were BBQ, with a bed of fresh spinach and basil and cream sauce with pesto and grilled tomatoes and pickled olives. I think separately it is tasty however the combination on one plate not so good. My mouth was so confused. The sea-bass was overcooked. I would ask what is in the dish before you order, some of the menu descriptions are inaccurate. The staff is limited in English but if you speak Russian they will understand. From Ramen and noodles to dumplings and fried rice, they got you covered! The atmosphere is great and the place is pretty spacious. Our server was Esmira, she was really nice, friendly and attentive. We happened to come across this place by chance while we were in the area and decided to stop by, and we're so glad we did. We ordered the Tom Yam, Mongolian Buuza, Cucumber Salad, and two teas. Everything was incredibly delicious, with fresh ingredients, and you can tell it's made with care. The menu is impressively diverse, offering dishes from various cultures, which is a rare find. We were especially impressed by the Buuza, and we will definitely be coming back to try more of their signature dishes. A big thanks to the chef and management for creating such a unique place. One thoughtful touch we really appreciated was the plastic aprons they provide to protect your clothes -- it's such a smart idea and very convenient. The only downside is that the restaurant is a bit far from our home. It would be fantastic if a place like this existed on the Westside -- we'd definitely be regulars. But even with the distance, we will be returning again and again. read more
