My car (150,000 miles) has been making a weird noise so I stopped by this morning, with no appointment, and asked if a mechanic could ride in the car with me for a few minutes. Brian said no problem, got in the car, and after five minutes we heard the noise. It was the power steering pump. Back at the shop Brian checked the power steering fluid, looked at the pump, and told me it was ok and didn't need replaced. I am so impressed - a dishonest mechanic could have told me I needed a new pump and charged me several hundred dollars! Brian didn't even charge me for his time. i called in to ask to get my car looked at I asked if he deals with electrical issues with cars…read morethey said yes then I explained I was trying to equip stronger wires for an after market alternator that will charge a power station in my car as well as find a parasitic draw in my vehicle. instead of saying we can help with the parasitic draw but not the power station he says "we don't do all that" to which then I say I understand the power station isn't the issue and having it all hooked up isn't the expectation it would just be installing the alternator and accessories. but either way what I'm worried about right now is the parasitic draw can you help with that? he says yes then ask what car do I have which is a "2002 Buick Rondezvous" and he said "I think it would be best if you talk to your dealer"... its a simpler electric system compared to newer cars so I'm trying to understand what about my car made it so that he can't find the parasitic draw? hmm wonder why?
