Dinner for two was almost $60 but it was the waiter who made the experience horrible. The food was bland and when we did receive it, it did not match the menu description. When I asked for the pico de galo that was missing , the waiter acknowledged. Food was also overcooked but waiter only came back to toss containers towards us at the end of the meal, which I did not eat. The waiter never asked how our meal was, or bring the I'll missing pico de galo, ask for more drinks or bring a bill. I have been coming here almost weekly for two months now. Every time before has been pleasant and good. This time we were going to buy jumbo margaritas, but the server told us we should get the pitcher was about the same price ($16.99) on special today, so we did. After getting the pitcher and drinking a little bit (15% or so) the server came back and said he messed up it was normal price and the manager wouldn't let him change it (normal $22.00). After he came back I told him we only got it because of what he told us, he went back go the manager, and she said she wouldn't change the price. I am going to go talk to her before paying the bill now, but I will not come back to a place that makes a mistake and then makes me pay for it. Mistakes happen, but our order changed because of the price we were told, and then we were told sorry, pay the higher price. As of now the server himself has offered to pay the difference, I don't want him to pay the difference because he made a mistake, it's on the company not him. After talking to the manager, she was extremely rude, told me that "it's not posted anywhere, I shouldn't rely on the servers to know" and that she would call the cops on me if I didn't pay the inflated price and leave, so unfortunately I did just that. read more

Disappointed!!! Ive been coming to this restaurant since it opened (almost 10 years) and it's sad to say I will NOT be coming back. Ordered a spinach quesadilla and asked to sub green peppers for tomatoes. Our waitress agreed but came out with the quesadilla missing peppers. She returned minutes later with a plate of soggy pepper on the side... We asked for them to be cooked inside and she said she couldn't do much, laughed and went away. 7 years ago this place was the place to go for Mexican food! Now a days it is over priced with salt bomb food and over sweetened margaritas. I paid $10.50 for a sugar loaded beergarita with a pissant corona in it, and I had to pour the salsa over my food to give it some flavor. Watch out for the quesadilla section, at the top it says "12" flour tortilla served with rice and beans" which one would assume means ALL BELOW IS 12" AND COMES WITH RICE AND BEANS. But no this only works if you picked one of the quesadillas below and ask for 12" OR order one that also says rice and beans. The staff was great, they have some really hard workers working for them and are lucky to have them! Sadly this place has totally lost what makes Mexican food GREAT and is just conforming to what is fast, easy, cheap and terrible. read more

As a native Quad Citian, I've frequented all of the Azteca locations over the past decade (including Azteca 2 on 53rd St. in Davenport, before it closed). I've had mostly positive experiences dining in although, at times, the staff could have been friendlier and more attentive. Nevertheless, the food has always been satisfying to my palate, and the jumbo margaritas are tasty and have given me a nice buzz. You can't forget the waitstaff greeting patrons with an "hola amigos" and playing mariachi music in honor of birthday celebrations (complete with the birthday person donning an oversized sombrero while eating complementary sopapillas). Out of all of the Azteca restaurants, I've probably visited this location the most since it's so close to where I live. I had only ever dined in, but tonight, my husband and I ordered carry out so we could pick it up on the way home after running errands. We generally don't go out of our way to order tacos at Azteca, but since it was Taco Tuesday (in which they are only 99 cents), my husband placed an order and had the call on speakerphone. This is an idea of how the conversation went: Girl on phone: *mumbles some sort of greeting related to calling Azteca and asks a question about taking our order that is also hard to decipher* My husband: "Yes, I would like an order of three hardshell beef tacos without lettuce and tomato." Girl on phone: "...alriiiight..." *clearly appears to be distracted and devotes 3/4 of her attention to the conversation* My husband: "I would also like an order of three hardshell tacos but with everything. Lettuce and tomato." Girl on phone: "...alriiiight..." *clearly appears to be distracted and devotes 1/2 of her attention to the conversation* My husband: "And an order of queso. The cheese dip." Girl on phone: "...alriiiight..." *gives total and says it will be ready in five minutes while clearly appearing to be distracted and devotes 1/4 of her attention to the conversation, failing to repeat the order back* When he got off the phone, I told my husband that she obviously wasn't devoting her full attention to him, and he agreed. My husband and I got to the parking lot about 15 minutes later and expected the order to have been long ready by then. My husband went to the counter and, the moment he gave his name to the hostess (the same girl who took his order), she went back to the kitchen to make it! Right around the same time, a man walked in and placed a carry out order, yet he received his food at the same time my husband did! For whatever reason, the employees waited until my husband arrived to begin preparing the food, making him wait when it should have already been done! On top of that, when we got home, we found out the order was nothing at all what it was supposed to be: three tacos with everything, and three tacos with only meat and cheese. Instead, we received three tacos with meat and tomato, and three tacos with meat and lettuce. To quote my husband, "Who would even order that?!" We also received queso (which we ordered without chips since we already had some at home), yet we were given chips! The tacos were cold, soggy, and unenjoyable. After picking the tomatoes off, I was left with only meat and taco shell. I was only able to eat 1 3/4 of the tacos. Hopefully, we weren't charged for the chips, especially since the girl on the phone didn't even bother to repeat the order back. This experience makes me not want to order carry out from this location again, especially on a Taco Tuesday. Azteca 3 devotes more attention to their customers in the actual building, so it's better to order inside of the restaurant than over the phone! P.S. Worst service ever. Happened 2 times. I though the 1st time could've been a fluke. The 2nd time I ordered over the phone, 18 street tacos, 3 just plain. They gave me all plain tacos. When I went to pick up my order, they gave my order to the person ahead of me and asked if we came in together. I replied to them that I have no clue who that person/customer was. I had to wait for them to start my order all over again, just to received it, drive away expecting that it was to be correct, and drove back because all the tacos were plain. I told them that I only wanted 3 plain. They told me that it would take another 10 minutes for them to simply put onions and cilantro in the tacos. When received after 10 minutes more minutes (45 minutes altogether)..., all they did was put it in a "to-go" plate, and put it in the bag. I had to ask for utensils to make my own tacos the way I ordered them in the 1st place. To make matters worse, they had asked me if I paid for the onions and cilantro. What the hell? No sorry or apologies from them at all! Lastly, 2 other customers had incorrect orders brought out to them while I was waiting for mine to get corrected. BOTTOM LINE: HORRIBLE SERVICE! It has definitely taken us some time to get refills and to get the check, and things have been priced wrong on the checks too (I had a $22.50 check and it was rung up as $2.50?? Lmao forreal.) I give it 4 stars because the food is really good. The Shrimp is thick and juicy. The chicken was flavorful. The tortillas are fresh and yummy! Don't go if you're in a hurry I guess! And I did say top 5 in "the Quad Cities" lol. -------------------------------------- Probably one of the top five Mexican places in Quad Cities. Steaming hot, fresh ingredients, excellent flavor fusion for a genuine flavor palate you can enjoy at any time of the day! Tastes like most things are made from scratch, not out of cans or anything! I've eaten Mexican food all over Mexico, in California, and many of the local Mexican places. Azteca is without a doubt, the worst Mexican food experience I've ever had. Where do I start? Refried beans that taste like they came from a can. Sickly looking, tough, cold white flour tortillas used for enchiladas. Enchilada sauce with the strangest taste, and so hot it overpowered the taste of the filling. Enchilada filling that looked like it came out of a microwave. A side salad of nothing but chopped white iceberg lettuce that looks like it was scraped out of a dumpster. There are plenty of great Mexican restaurants in the Quad Cities like la Rancherita, el Patron, and los Primos. Do yourself a favor and give this place a pass. Your gut and taste buds will thank you for it. read more

Having given this place another try, I'm sorry I came back. The food was ok, but the whole experience left a lot to be desired. The service was slow and unapologetic. The place was very busy... I guess that may be typical for a Saturday at 1 p.m. They were clearly overwhelmed by the crowd. Our waiter took forever to take our order, and then basically threw our plates at us, knocking everything on our table down in the process. Additionally, there were children running free in the restaurant, and best as I could tell, they belonged to the management, since they were allowed to run behind the counters and rummage through the candy jars at the counter. I was hit by flying bubble gum candies, just like the type those kids had been pillaging at the counter. When I mentioned (politely, not in a confrontational way) it to the wait staff, she shrugged at me and walked off. Meh. The food was ok, I guess, but there's better choices in town, and I won't be back for another visit. Quite amazing that this place stays so crowded. I'm bumping this place up to three stars just because my parents really like it and I feel guilty for thinking differently. My sentiments at the end of the meal were something along the lines of, "Why didn't we just go to Harris Pizza?" As my last meal in the Quad Cities, Azteca was a poor send off. We were seated immediately upon our arrival, which was surprising, given that it was a Friday night, the restaurant was quite full, and our party was large. However, we were within spitting distance of the door and whenever anybody entered or exited the building (which happened often), we were blasted by drafts of frigid air. I ordered a soda, which the waiter brought out promptly as we waited for the rest of our party to arrive. It was gone by the time we ordered, at which point I requested a refill, which didn't come for over thirty minutes. I might never have received it at all. When the waiter brought out the entrees, it was clear that my food was nowhere on the tray or in the kitchen. Apparently, the waiter had neglected to write down my order, or perhaps it had been overlooked by the cook. No big deal. I reminded him again that I would like another soda. He gave a perfunctory apology and left, presumably to bring my drink. Or not. It wasn't until my sister asked -- quite loudly -- about my beverage that it was hastily brought to the table. My entree arrived eventually as well -- just as the rest of my family was finishing up their meals. I ordered Enchiladas Cozumel, which are crab enchiladas. To be fair, why I imagined that ordering seafood enchiladas from a mediocre Mexican restaurant in Iowa was a good idea is beyond me. I should have stuck with something impossible to screw up, like beef enchiladas, or Harris Pizza. They were inedible. Gross, gross, gross. The rest of my family seemed to enjoy their food. Someone ordered chicken and rice, someone else ordered chicken enchiladas, and my mom and aunt both ordered shrimp quesadillas --- which really did look quite appetizing. Another thing that the staff at Azteca were good at was refilling baskets of chips and bowls of salsa. We ate quite a bit of that. Also, the margaritas that were on special were huge and looked pretty delicious. Overall, if I were a resident of Bettendorf, lived in close proximity to Azteca, and possessed coupons or gift cards, I might return. And order something really reliable. The atmosphere is pleasant and the prices are right. This would be a great place to come with kids. As a visitor with limited opportunities to partake in some of the truly delicious cuisine that is unique to the Quad Cities, I won't ever be back. read more

This is the best Mexican food in the area (so far). This is the old Hardee's in Cumberland Square. I have had food at all 4 Aztecas (there is a fourth downtown davenport). This one I feel has the best. They are all very close though. Sometimes they have live music, The place can get crowded though. The food is more Tex-mex, but done very well. The sides are top notch.
