Last yr when i went i loved the milanesa meal. today not at all. we got a tortas there was little meat, a small slice of avacado in it and the salsas were all saltyyyyyy and a little too spicy. i usually like the green salsa but it was way too salty gross!! the only good one was the red with tomatoes and onions. the cashier was friendly but since my food was to go i asked for a container to get salsa to go and she could only give me one container per meal, more than that she would have to charge me. Delicious Chili rellenos very hard to find a good place to make them now a days don't eat a lot of Mexican food but a good place to get some authentic Mexican food. Staff is super friendly and kind even with some customers that believe that they are better than the rest of us. Glad to see a business doing a great job and giving good customer service. read more

We were in Palmdale for the day and stumbled on Azteca Mexican. The place was jammed with just one table open. We were the only non-Hispanic patrons, something that's a good thing in a Mexican restaurant. The food was better than anything we've had at other Mexican restaurants. The specials board, up by the counter, had lots of dishes we didn't recognize. My wife had the Chile Verde Posole. It was a big bowl with lots of meat and hominy, and it had a slight spiciness to it. The Birria De Res I ordered had lots of lean, tender beef in a mildly spicy soup. I could have used some pozole-hominy in mine, too. The hand-made tortillas -- eight of them -- we thick and fresh. The place is chaotic, sure, but the service was just fine. Once our order was delivered (surprisingly quick), a different waitress came by twice asking if everything was okay (it was). This is great little gem. The food is on point. The shrimp dishes are loaded with medium/large shrimp. The street tacos are perfect. Someone mentioned they were small...yeah that's what real tacos are small. The menudo was very well spiced and combined with the homemade tortillas I was in 7th heaven. All of the food is extremely authentic, and is exactly what I would expect to eat in a Mexican home. Gorditas are actually gorditas and not some bready Taco Bell taco. Asada, pastor & pollo are all good. You could tell the beans are cooked with lard, but that's authentic. Went on Sunday afternoon. Was pretty busy with is fine. Not sure if the owner was having a bad day. He was nice when he was seating us down but when it came to taking our order he was really annoyed and frustrated. I asked for a Chile relleno and asked for no sauce on top and he scoffed and rolled his eyes. I looked at my husband and we both stared at one another. Once he left we started to laugh because that has never happened to us. My husband asked for a menudo without pata and they gave him pata. We didn't even want to mention it to the owner because we can just imagine how he is going to respond. Food was fair. Nothing special about this place. I will not be coming to this restaurant again. Customer service is HORRIBLE. Food was so so... AND not delicious enough to come back and deal with the bad customer service. Before reading the reviews, I thought it was because we were people of African descent. Maybe that still is the reason, due to us being the only people there with African decent in a crowd of seated families of Spanish/Latin descent. We arrived as the only customers until it got busy, sat for 30 minutes before our food came, and was not offered any of the complimentary chips and salsa the other families that came after us received. I order pickup from here about once every 2 weeks or so. My wife and I like their carnitas tacos. The asada is good too. We've tried the tacos at House of Tacos a couple of blocks down and prefer the meats and salsas at Azteca. I gave this place 4 stars due to it's authenticity and service. If you're looking for truly authentic Mexican food, then look no further. You will definitely find that here. It is located in a shopping center off of a main street that was somewhat busy. However, the shopping center was not busy, and there was ample parking. It was a bit on the small side and was full when we walked in on a Sunday around noon. We had a party of 5 adults and 1 child. We were greeted immediately and told that it would be about a 15 minute or so wait and that was fine with us. They cleared off a table to accommodate us, and we were brought salsa and chips as a starter. The salsa was great and had a spicy kick to it. They also had a salsa bar with different varieties of salsa to try. There are no refills on the soft drinks, I believe. But you can order a pretty tall bottle that would likely last throughout your meal. Our servers spoke English fluently and were very attentive and friendly. The only alcohol they serve is beer, which I do not drink. I ordered a dish similar to fajitas served with corn tortillas. Before Azteca, I had never had authentic Mexican food before. Of course, I've had Mexican food in Tennessee but had never had it in a region where there was a large Hispanic population, like California. It tasted TOTALLY different than any of the Mexican I had ever tasted, which what I was used to is probably a very Americanized version of Mexican food. The tortillas at Azteca were made fresh that day in the restaurant. You can't get much more authentic than that! However, I will say that having been used to Americanized Mexican food, my taste buds were not quite used to authentic Mexican. I hated the taste of the corn tortillas and I felt the fajitas themselves were a little underwhelming. Please understand that this was most likely due to the fact that I had never had authentic Mexican before and definitely not a reflection of Azteca. The food was hot, the service was great, and so was the salsa choices. Everyone I was with thoroughly enjoyed their meal. I'm sure if I lived in a region where I could easily get authentic Mexican, I would have had more exposure to it and more opportunities to try it. But I was just visiting the area, and Azteca was my 1st authentic Mexican experience. However, if I'm ever in town again, I would most certainly dine there again. read more

Looked just like another hole in the wall dump destined to close at any moment. However, we were encouraged to try it by friends. I was so pleasantly surprised! The place was full, but the wait was short. The food was very good. I ordered the menudo, which was very good, not overcooked and tasty. My wife had the chilaquiles, my son had a wet burrito.
