Our party of 5 for lunch resulted in 5 customers that will not return to Aztecas in Gautier. Not only was the food not warm when received, but the orders were not correct as well and we had to ask repeatedly for what we ordered, no set up for fajitas, etc. The fajita steak was tough, cold and flavorless, the supreme burrito was cold, flavorless, server did not know type of fish used in tacos, did not know drink specials, music too loud to hear conversations. Large Mexican restaurant in Gautier along Hwy 90. Large seating area inside, plus some outdoor seating. Several TVs inside, likely on sports. Inside was nicely and tastefully decorated. Really good salsa; not hot. Reasonable lunch menu prices, under $10 per person. Staff was friendly and delivered our food quickly. Overall a good lunch at a decent price. Definitely worth a try if you're craving Mexican food. The chicken taco salad was very good; comes with grilled peppers and onions, plus lettuce, in a molded tortilla bowl. Wish it had some refried beans and tomatoes, but doesn't. You do get sides of guacamole and sour cream. The guac was okay, but not great. A couple in my group got the Speedy Gonzalez, which they said was good, but maybe a little salty and too heavy on the enchilada sauce. But they enjoyed it. read more

I've eaten here several times and was astonished I'd never written a review BUT it may be tainted by my most recent experience. First, it's a Mexican place. I USUALLY only ever order a taco salad because, let's be honest, there's like 6 bubbling pots of ingredients in the back and what you order dictates which ingredients they use and what type of shell! Why do you think it comes out 12 seconds after ordering it? I stopped by on Taco Tuesday. It's advertised ON THE INTERNET ON THEIR OWN WEBSITE! The hostess, who handles online and takeout orders, didn't know about it... the person she asked got the special all wrong.. even when I SHOWED them the add... which was the SAME picture from their own menu.. still wouldn't acquiesce to the special pricing. They are PROUD of their food and the prices reflect that! So be prepared. The restaurant is SWIMMING in atmosphere. I'd love to try their margaritas sometime but afraid I'd have to take out a second mortgage on my home. Not really excited about the service or the prices. Food is good but I don't recall it being anything mind blowing or anything. All in all... kinda "meh" but the not wanting to honor their ADVERTISED special annoyed me immensely! read more

Fair place to eat. I find the rice has a strange spice, but my daughter likes it. We like to do take out often. I always get a burrito, chimichanga, and beans since they all reheat well. I have ALWAYS had issues at this restaurant. Incorrect orders, cold food, long wait times, terrible service (unless you go to the bar), food packaged so horribly I had to get my vehicle professionally cleaned b/c of leaks & very overpriced. I would go somewhere else but I've been living in Gautier, MS and all the other Mexican restaurants are 25-40 minutes away. Tonight I called and was put on hold for 22 minutes. I could hear people in the background and they just literally forgot. I made a three way call 10 times and the lines was busy. I went in to the place to order and showed the young lady how I was still on hold. She looked at the restaurant phone and hung it up. I asked her if she wasn't concerned how many orders were missed due to her forgetting and she said ,"it's okay they can wait." Yikes. Moving back to Atlanta, GA tomorrow and I can't wait to get some decent food. Actually my first time coming here even though I hear about it a lot from work. Had a last minute plan to have lunch with a group of 30 plus and they were able to have tables already ready for us. Staff were very welcoming and the place had a great atmosphere. Right when we got to the table they already had some nachos and salsa waiting for us while we wait till everyone else arrived. Servers were great at taking everyone's order especially taking that many order from our tables. Ordered the tacos al pastor and it came with 5 tacos with a side of beans, grilled jalapeño and green onions. It's actually the first place I been to that didn't put two tortillas on each tacos which I really liked. Wish the tacos were a bit bigger though ! Price was pretty decent. Would come back here again for a quick bite whenever I'm feeling some Mexican food since good Mexican restaurant here is a hit or miss. This place definitely hit the spot though. I went here with my friend. We were sat down promptly. The hostess was welcoming and warm. We ordered the Strawberry Mojito Margarita. It was so good! Perfect blend of flavor and alcohol. Our server was really kind and attentive. The ambience serves traditional Mexican Vibes. Great music plays, makes you wanna salsa. But you can't, so just roll your shoulders while sipping your margarita! Their chips are made in house. The salsa was fresh. The Steak is delish! Came here for the first time tonight. I really like the inside of the restaurant. There is a lot of seating and it has a nice bar setup. There is even a lot of outdoor seating. Tonight it was a tad on the chilly side so they even started a fire, so that was kinda cool. As for the food. I got the steak fajita nachos because that is one of my Mexican joint go-tos. I was semi disappointed in its mediocracy. Most Mexican places usually deck theirs out in queso and vegetables (at least onions and peppers) . Here I got a little sprinkled cheese, a good amount of steak (which was good), and zero vegetables (unless you count the half a handful of canned jalepenos). For extra you could have added lettuce, tomatoes, and sour cream. To be fair, it was decent. I just expected more. Next time, I'd try something different. read more

We've heard for years how good Azteca's food is so we finally got around to trying it. It was a circus of mistakes. First, the handicap parking spaces are against curbs with NO ramps to get on the sidewalk. Secondly, the spaces are regular parking spaces, just painted blue. No space to get the wheelchair next to the car to get my husband. We had to park across from the front of the restaurant in a regular parking space where there was an open space next to us so I could get my husband. Next, we go inside and no one is at the desk. No biggie, they were probably seating other people. A man finally comes up to take us to a table. The stone walls looked nice but the music was very loud, mixed with the noise from the TVs in the bar, which made it very difficult to admire the stonework. It was useless to try to have a conversation in the noise. The salsa was spicy and good. The queso was so-so. The chips were just OK. We didn't go for the chips and dip so it wasn't a deal breaker. We ordered steak fajitas, one of our favorite Mexican dishes. It came out with very salty Mexican rice, bland refried beans, and almost soupy guacamole with pico. I asked for some sour cream and when it came out I wondered if it was real sour cream. It was grainy, like the fake stuff at certain fast food restaurants - and it tasted fake. I've never had fajitas anywhere like this. It had some kind of tomato sauce on the steak and veggies, and it wasn't good. I want to taste the veggies and steak, not tomato sauce. The steak was absolutely horrible. All three pieces I put into my tortilla were almost all gristle! (I apologize for the photo of those pieces - I did try to back off so you couldn't see it in gross detail) We couldn't eat it. We tried but just couldn't. After paying the bill we quickly left. We usually like to give places two tries if the first visit is less than stellar. We are breaking that rule with Aztecas. We definitely won't be back, and I'll be looking into the legality of their handicap parking situation. For all those with handicaps, I couldn't recommend this place even if the food was good because of the difficulty of the parking situation. read more

Lunch Chicken Fajitas make a great Asian stir fry. I'll explain. They put Barbeque sauce on their fajitas. It had sweet and tangy flavor reminiscent of a sweet stir fry with a hint of Barbecue flavor. So I ditched the soft tortillas, mixed the rice in with fajitas and made my own Asian dish at a Mexican restaurant. It was fabulous. Their Coke was mixed properly with lots of bubbles (a requirement of mine) Their chips came out warm and they were tender. The salsa tasted fresh and excellent with just enough heat I didn't need to ask for hot sauce to doctor it up. First time here. Service was prompt and friendly. I bookmarked this place in my list of favorites and would not hesitate to come back next time I'm in the area. read more

Aztecas has several locations across the MS and AL coast. I'm going to review the Gautier location only. I work across the street from Aztecas so it's probably too accessible to me. For my work I've taken a party of 30 there for lunch, of course with a reservation, and they delivered flawlessly. They are great for large or small groups, business or family events. I have been there many many times and I'm extremely happy with their quality of staff and food but in fairness I will keep this review limited to my last visit. Party of two out for an extended dinner with adult beverages, appetizers, and entrees. We were pleasantly greeted by Erica, who is a hostess and seated. My daughter was about thirty minutes behind me so I ordered a new favorite drink (Banana Martini) and my standard drink (Unsweetened tea with extra lemon). A complimentary order of chips and salsa was promptly delivered to our table. I really love this salsa as it's level of spicy hits me just right. I ordered a Mississippi Mudslide for my daughter. See picture. I also ordered queso dip and guacamole dip for an appetizer. The queso/cheese dip is always on point and so good. I try to reserve a small portion to put on my entree depending on what I order. The guacamole dip is creamy and seasoned just right. Now a tip for you is if you like really spicy, get their signature tomatillo based sauce which is measurably hotter than their regular salsa on the side and add a little to create your on personal heavenly dish. I ordered the Pozole for an entree and my daughter ordered a Flauta with rice and guacamole salad on the side plus a shrimp taco. The Pozole tastes like a traditional Mexican dish, something you might get at a Street side cantina in Mexico. It's a rich broth based soup with Mexican sausage, hominy, cabbage, radish, and a SIDE of onions and whole peppers that are grown in the Southern regions of HELL! These peppers are seriously hot so be very careful. Our server warned me of the heat level as the food was served. I chose to add them to the soup and didn't break them open but let them steep for about five minutes and took them out. It boosted the heat level perfectly. As usual I found our server quite attentive and very personable. He exceeded my expectations. Some people eat here and say oh another Tex Mex establishment. I will humbly tell you to explore the menu and if your looking for traditional Mexican food you can find that on the menu too. You can always ask your server for recommendations. 5 stars to a restaurant that continues to repeat high performance in all categories wrapped in a family friendly atmosphere. Great job. read more

Went our for a lunch outing with about 25 plus people or more and WOW service was great! They have tons of food items to choose and also have a lunch menu to pick from as well. When we all arrived the servers placed chips and freshly made salsa for everyone to snack on while deciding on their foood choice. The restaurant was decorated really nice and the lights had a nice dim to it. I went a head and ordered the lunch special beef fajitas which came out in a decent time sizzling with grilled cuts of beef in a sauce sizzling with onions and bell peppers garnished with a lime. The beef fajitas came with a side of rice nicely decorated with a cup mold and the refried beans sitting in a tortilla shell garnished with some cheese. It also came with a side of guacamole and some pico de gallo on sheet of lettuce. The fajitas were tasty wrapped in warm tortillas and the condiments definitely complemented them. Overall this place is a great place to dine out with friends, family, or co workers for any time of the day. Definitely looking forward to come back in the future to try some other food. read more

Food is OK. The management however is rude and unresponsive to delivery. While I appreciate that Third Party Delivery have a separate policy, when orders are mixed the restaurant should at the very least help in sorting the mistake. This restaurant becomes rude and defensive which doesn't help fixing the order or delivery. It's not that a mistake is made, it's how mistakes are handled. This restaurant fails in that regard. read more
