I am always weary of places where they don't cater to the clients' needs. For one, there are no reasons why we can't split a check when going out with friends. It doesn't take much, it's easy and it accommodates the client. Substantively, the service is slow. A drink order can sit on the counter for ages before you get it--yet, from the time you enter to the time you get to place your order, you interact with 3 staff persons: one sits you down, another brings you water and yet a third one gets your drink/food order... then you sit... and then there is a 4th person bringing the food! I feel like I am in a car wash!! I ordered the NY steak and egg, scrambled eggs and medium cook. The meat was one of the toughest I ever had--I thought I was going to break a tooth and it was cooked well done. Overall, a 2 star is generous. I likely will never go there--and that is too bad because I live in the Pilsen and I would like to have good restaurants to visit. Maybe this will help. read more

Great brunch place in Pilsen. Sitting outside on a nice day made it really picture perfect. First, I think Azul18 is a fantastic deal. All the dishes are priced on the lower end from what I've seen in Chicago, but they don't skimp on quality. I had a vanilla latte, which came served in a cute glass and tasted great, and the lobster benedict. The eggs were poached a bit hard so the yolk wasn't as runny although I'd prefer it this way as opposed to gooey underdone whites. I also really liked the potatoes on the side. These were super crispy. My friend got the pork belly hash which was also tasty. We both really liked the toast it came with lol, but the hash was yummy too. read more

Not sure why this place doesn't have more stars, in my opinion Azul 18 is quietly, low key, one of the best places for brunch in Chicago. Its fairly popular on the weekends, there can be a crowd. but everything on the menu is amazing! Plus their brunch menu is sold ALL WEEK, EVERY MORNING until 3pm!! House Pancakes? THE BEST. Caramelized banana, perfect sauce omg. Anything with Cochinita Pibil? BUY IT. Chilaquiles, torta, etc. Breakfast Burrito? PERFECT, CRISPY, everything I want in a breakfast burrito AND MORE. Passed by this in our neighborhood a few times now and stopped in today for brunch--we were STARVING after a long walk from Pilsen to Grant Park and back--and they did not disappoint. Husb ordered their Turkey Chorizo Hash special; loved the corn tortillas and the avocado crema was delicious. I stole his poached eggs and some of the crema with them, so I can attest--really good. My Steak Salad being mainly an attempt to avoid carbs, I was pleasantly surprised; the brightness of the Chimichurri vinaigrette was on point and I really enjoyed the steak. It had a perfect char (something I don't usually find with a skirt steak, since I like it best medium rare). I also got the Paloma and I have to say; though it wasn't bad, it was a lot sweeter than I prefer. We went to Azul 18 early on a rainy Sunday morning and were seated right away. Between the two of us, we shared the spicy green chilaquiles with pork and a short stack of pancakes. The chilaquiles had great flavor. We had the eggs scrambled and they were nice and fluffy. The pork was very nicely seasoned and we enjoyed the whole combination of salsa, guacamole and sour cream. The tortillas were really nice too, they soaked up a good amount of salsa but were still crispy. just wish there were more of them, especially for such a pretty pricey dish ($18). The buttermilk pancakes were good. They weren't as fluffy as the ones we make at home, but still solid. We had them with strawberries. I do wish the syrup was better. It wasn't very sweet and didn't have much of a flavor. Overall, Azul 18 was fine, an easy and solid brunch spot, but we won't be making the trip back anytime soon. read more

Had a great brunch at Azul 18! There were lots of outdoor seating options but we opted for indoor. It was nice and bright with good music. We tried the life juice and arnold palmer. The life juice was soooo good I should've gotten a large! The arnold palmer wasn't bad just not what was expected. For food we got the smoked salmon benedict and the 8oz new york strip steak. I loved the smoked salmon benedict! One egg was significantly more runny which unsettled me a little but the flavors overall were great. The steak and eggs were really good as well. The eggs were seasoned perfectly but the steak wasn't cooked to order and was inconsistent. We had two waiters, both very nice. We later learned there was some miscommunication about where the servers were sectioned which is why we had 2. Because of this I give them grace for not checking in on us until after we were done eating. The prices were also decent and our bill was cheaper than expected. Some friends we were visiting recommended this place for breakfast, so we decided to give it a try. I was really happy with my omelette and the side of potatoes were crispy and fresh. I thought it was pretty cool that they had a full "coffee bar" because they made a really good iced coffee, with lots of options. Overall, I really liked the Mexican flavors. Their roasted potatoes on the side are A+. The chocolate crepes are just so-so. They drizzle it with chocolate sauce and each crepe is stuffed with a sweet and tart strawberry compote. The crepes themselves came out a bit dense and heavy, not as tender as I would have liked. I would try their waffles instead. Azul has delicious food combined with exceptionally friendly service! The wait was only 15 minutes (Sunday brunch, what else could one expect?!) but the food is so good I would have waited longer. The portion sizes weren't too big or too small, just right! My Eggs Florentine (cf. pic.) was exceptionally well prepared with the eggs cooked perfectly at "slightly runny but still somewhat solid". I could not have asked for anything tastier. The waitress said it was possible to request the 'taters extra crisply and chef more than complied. We had a few special requests due to food allergies and those meals too were beautifully prepared. The waitress also offered subs, e.g. salad or fruit instead of potatoes. In terms of price, a breakfast entree and cup o' coffee, with 20% tip, will range from $15-20. We did not try the milk shakes or specialty coffees but they too looked excellent! I will not make it a point to return to this place. My friend and I dined here on a Sunday afternoon. Our server was very nice and the hibiscus margarita was very good. However, the food was quite lackluster. I ordered a special of breakfast mac and cheese, which left a lot to be desired. The sauce was watery, the chicken was rubbery, and the flavor was completely lacking. The bathrooms in this place were also pretty shady, and I think the bill was much higher than it should have been considering the low quality of the food. I've been super curious about this place since Pilsen has a bunch pf hidden gems. Pretty average breakfast nothing really stands out. Service was pretty slow and it wasn't too busy. I came here on a Saturday I dined in. I ordered the spinach, bacon and cheese omelette and the beignets. The beignets were pretty tough the sauces that came with didn't taste good to me. I ate them with syrup instead made them taste much better. The omelette was kind of dry but still good it was a lot of egg used. The potatoes that came with were not cooked enough for my liking kind of hard to eat. I didn't like the menu nothing really came together it was pretty expensive. We were, however, disappointed that food was pricey and lacked any special zip and piquancy usually associated with higher-end Mexican fare. Went to Azul 18 for brunch a week ago. Had been there once before but that was years ago. Safe to say, it's as good as I remember. Ordered the Steak and Eggs, they were delicious but the steak was a lot smaller than I expected. Didn't find the salsa on the eggs spicy but definitely tasty. Beans were good and the guacamole as well. As a table, we ordered the Mexican potato skins as an appetizer (it's supposed to be an entree). Essential it's cheesy chorizo and eggs on a crisp potato. There's sour cream and pico de gallo on the side and that makes it even more delicious! Will definitely reorder whenever I go back. I also called ahead to reserve a table for six at 11am on a Sunday. When we arrived, the place was kind of empty but by 11:45/ 12 almost all tables were full. The later it got, the more full it became but not the full where you have to squeeze through people to get to the bathroom. Staff was excellent, very friendly, and never rushed us to leave. It's typical American style brunch food - hashes, omelets and benedicts and such - but there are also Mexican options like tortas, chilaquiles and burritos for a unique flare. I went with a group of eight after making a reservation. We were seated right away and service was very good. Beignets were very tasty. My breakfast torta was basically a breakfast sandwich with beans and sour cream which I thought was a good. A couple of my friends also got their juices which they liked. I came here for brunch last weekend and I'm obsessed! This place is so close to my house and I never realized that this place was BYOB (but I feel like an idiot because it's definitely right underneath their sign outside). My friend and I shared everything, so I got to try the House Lobster Benedict, Smoked Salmon Benedict, Mexican Potato Skins and the S'mores Nutella. I think the french toast was a little too sweet for my taste, but is definitely a hit if you have the munchies or just have the appetite for something super sweet. I preferred the lobster benedict over the smoked salmon, but my friend mentioned that she liked the smoked salmon better because of the freshness. The lobster benedict to me had a lot of flavor and was a bit spicy. The potatoes that came with the meal were also fire! Grabbed a weekday breakfast here and I really enjoyed it. The space is large with booth seating around the perimeter, so that most of the tables have that comfy seating option. For a Tuesday at 1030am, the place had a decent amount of traffic with more than half the tables being solo diners like myself. From start to finish the service at Azul was super friendly and warm, my server, a lady, was super sweet and I really appreciate that, especially when I'm dining solo. I had the lobster Benedict which came out very quickly and was delicious. It's a lobster cake, similar to a crab cake with a kicked up hollandaise and came with a side of crispy potatoes. The coffee was good in flavor, I just wished it was stronger for my taste so I could do with a cup and a warm up instead of 3 refills :) I thought the price was very reasonable for a lobster Benedict. I had an extremely nice experience with Azul. The sauces accompanying the beignets was extreme thick & full of sugar however it was a decent appetizer to my breakfast. The strawberry-orange juice was a decadent surprise as the flavor was bold yet balanced. Lastly the lobster Benedict sort of exceeded my expectation. Priced at $12.50 I didn't expect the dish to be bursting with lobster but to be honest it's MORE of a lobster hash than anything. With that tidbit aside the chipotle hollandaise sauce is the real star of the dish which is chock full of perfect ingredients. By perfect I mean the poached egg as well as the English muffin.
