They were very flexible when I needed to move our reservation. It is centrally located in the condesa neighborhood so lots to do before or after. Very nicely decorated and when you first walk in the lady making the handmade tortillas and dressed in traditional clothing is very welcoming. We came here for lunch around 3 o'clock, they asked us if we had a reservation (which we didn't) but we sat down right away. First things first, we ordered guacamole. It was so creamy, so tasteful. They came with a side of small tortilla chips. For the entree we ordered off their 'Mango' menu- highly recommend! We ordered coconut shrimp, and shrimp with pico de gallo. Simply amazing. Granted this was our first meal in the CDMX, and first meals are always at an advantage. They tend to set the bar, and Azul set the bar high. We had a great experience and a good meal at Azul, and I would make this a regular stop when we return to town. The chef owner, Ricardo Muñoz Zurita, has assembled a menu of classic dishes from each of the regions in Mexico, and his staff is executing them with consistency. If you want to try regional dishes and don't want to travel, Azul is a great place to do it. There is an English menu, although the staff here speaks limited English. Should not be a problem for any intrepid traveler (or Californian with access to a basic and necessary restaurant vocabulary.) The mole negro at Azul was the best we had on our visit, and we've eaten as much mole negro as is possible, outside of booking a trip to Oaxaca. We wished we would have ordered the tortilla soup, which come with a ceramic, hand painted day of the dead skeleton in a dress placed on your table, and while I'm not sure how the soup fits with this eerie accompaniment, its certainly am artistic choice. Tortillas here are being hand made in the front of the restaurant and the food and drinks here were delicious. The service is excellent, but importantly the food is very good. It was too dark to take photos, but I'm sure if you imagine a beautiful setting and tucking into a warm, lovely plate of mole negro, you get the picture! We spoke to a few ex-Mexico city locals (chilangos) and they liked this place and insisted the chef owner here Ricardo Muñoz Zurita consistently ensures the kitchen is preparing crave-worthy dishes. read more

Incredible from when I first walked through the door. This restaurant tantalizes all of your senses from the scent of fresh tortillas as you enter. The lighting on the walls is an incredible sight for the eyes. The service is impecable and anticipates all your needs. The presentation of the food is artwork. The taste of the chicken mole caused me to close my eyes and savor every bite tantalizing my mouth; I practically licked my plate. The artful serving of Tortilla soup in a Katrina tureen was an artful surprise that garnered an audible gasp of delight. The dessert called Espuma/ Foam was incredible and instantly melted on my tongue and was the most delicious way to finalize our meal. The staff were eager to assist to take photos. We ate at a number of fantastic restaurants while visiting Mexico City, however, Azul Condesa was very memorable. The setting is gorgeous, with an area in the back that feels like a garden. It is upscale but not pretentious and the crowd was very mixed with all sorts of people. Some great people watching occurred! The waitstaff was just lovely. They were able to provide menus in English which was very helpful as their menu is exceptionally unusual and unique. I wanted to try everything on the menu. Also interesting is that they bring in visiting chefs and offer special menus on top of the regular menu. This made it even harder to choose!! First, I had to try a tamarind margarita and it was devine. For an appetizer, two of us shared the tortilla soup. The presentation was stunning and the flavors were out of this world. Highly recommended. Next, I ordered the black chichilo mole sauce (I have NEVER seen this on a menu before...it is an ancient recipe made with the ashes of the chichilo chile). This was an unusual dish. I chose to have it served with venison leg (other options were beef or venison steak). The meat was excellent. I also loved the unique, smoky taste of the sauce. However, it had an unusual grittiness to it as it is made with ash. We also tried the "rice a la tumbada" of the visiting chefs fantastic menu...it was rice with fish, crab, shrimp and octopus seasoned with 12 year old achiote spice and cooked in parchment paper. Both main dishes were superb and like nothing we have ever tried before. For dessert, we had tea and the dulce de leche cake, which was rich and sweet and alcoholic! Lovely way to end a perfect meal. I truly wish I had a bigger stomach so I could have tried more of the wonderful sounding dishes. We will be back! And on top of it all, while expensive for Mexico, coming for NY this was an unbelievably priced meal. With a generous 20% tip, the bill came to $100 US dollars total. If you're in Mexico City, then this restaurant is a must!! The food was great and if you're vegetarian like me then you won't have a problem finding something to eat on their menu as they have vegetarian and vegan plates. The restaurant does get pretty packed so I would recommend calling ahead of time to reserve but totally worth it. I had vegetarian enchiladas and they were so good!! Remarkable! A dinner to remember CDMX by. It was our last night in Mexico City and we couldn't finish our trip on a stronger note. Loved it

The food here was gorgeously presented and it tasted great. I would rank this food the 2nd best food I had during my 5 day stay in CDMX. The service wasn't as friendly though and I found the portions a bit small and the restaurant interior hot. That said, the food was just amazing. I started with an appetizer of Tamal de Frijol Negro. These were black bean patties in a tomato soup base. Two come in an order even though the menu said just 1. The texture was different, but the flavors were very good and the black beans and tomatoes accompanied each other well. For a main I got the Cochinita Pibil. This was served with a side of the same black bean patty mentioned above. The main dish was pulled meat nicely seasoned and served with tomatoes and pickled veg. read more

Probably the best meal I've had during my Mexico City trip. The restaurant is on the pricier side, but the nice ambiance and delicious food is worth it. It was pretty packed for dinner, so making a reservation at least a few hours before might be a good idea. We started off with the sopa de tortilla and guacamole con chapulines. The guacamole was fairly standard, but the grasshoppers were a fun touch. The sopa arrived in a nice little figurine. I haven't had much mole before, but what I had at Condesa was rich and complex. We enjoyed our breakfast here enough to return for dinner later in the week. The staff was very patient with our veeery basic Spanish. We were offered pan dulce - a fresh-baked concha, in our case - after we ordered our breakfast. I washed down chilaquiles verdes con pollo with chocolate caliente. Fortunately, our Spanish-speaking Mexican-American friend was with us for dinner and he helped us navigate the menu. While I enjoyed the buñuelos rellenos de pato rostizado, or a duck-filled "fritter" covered in Oaxaca black mole sauce, a little mole goes a long way for me. I shared pastel de tres leches con rompope and the rompope, "an eggnog-like drink," was heavenly. I highly recommend a meal at one of their three locations. read more

I saw Azul on so many "top restaurant" lists, but I was pretty disappointed. I think it's probably gotten too touristy - everyone seated near us were American, something I didn't encounter at any other restaurant. Service - this was probably the worst part - the waiter was definitely overstaffed. It took forever to get his attention to order, and he missed basic things (e.g.he didn't give us napkins/silverware). Food - not a fan of Oaxacan food to begin with, so I admit the dishes, like the mole, were pretty well done. However everything was just COLD. The hot chocolate was lukewarm, my tortilla soup was lukewarm, and the main dish was basically room temperature. It was cold out and I was disappointed I didn't get a hot soup/drink to warm me up Ambience - the restaurant is beautiful but the upstairs is exposed to the outside and it was really cold. I love Azul! I've done a lot of research on places to eat in Mexico City and have also been told by friends to try this restaurant as it is delicious! I will say though that most of the people dining at this restaurant were foreigners. The service is great, ambiance is perfect and everything on the menu is so delicious that its hard to pick favorites! We came here for a special dinner on our Anniversary trip to CDMX. Great place for a special occasion. There was a short 10 min wait. Very classy and elegant. Loved the dinner ware - stunning. DH ordered the chk tortilla soup and it came in an elegant bowl with a queen statue on top. I got the mole which was so good and spicy! This was my first 'real' dining experience in México City. I have eaten at a few other places, but for a dinner spot where one truly sits down for a while, this was a fantastic start. I have over 20 restaurants on my list of 'where to eat' and I suppose since it's only a 10 minute walk for me and Yelp has many great things to say, i started with Azul Condesa. I didn't have a reservation but they found me a seat right away. (Traveling solo, eating solo). To begin, I had a recommended Mezcal which was poured in jicara gourd which for the rest, it's a baseball sized hollowed-out half of a gourd. Next, I was given some orange slices dashed with something semi-spicey. Yum. I wanted to order the Enchiladas de Mole Negro and my Joven (Waiter) recommended yet again, an appetizer Sopa. The Sopa was by far my favorite. This was the Sopa de Tortilla Oaxaqueña - chicken in a tomato sauce, what was like pulled chicken, avocado, cream and bits of tortilla. It was all I really needed. Then came the Enchiladas. All I can say is this: it was delicious and very rich. At this point I could only finish two of the three Enchiladas and I usually can eat a lot. Price was very reasonable. And the ambiance. Beautiful! In the back was an outdoor patio with a backdrop of leaves and plants. Inside, the lighting was very pleasant. Not too dark, but soft and perfect for enjoying a meal. One of my favorite places in Mexico City! After being recommended by several people, we stopped at Azul on our first night - it did not disappoint! We got margaritas (I had the coconut and my friend had the original). I am actually not a fan of alcohol but have a slight obsession with coconut so I had half of it and it was perfect We had a tamale to start with (the veggie one) and it was pretty standard. For the meal we shared the mole enchiladas, which were delicious, and the pear salad. Both were excellent! The mole here is way better than Cafe de Tacuba so I was glad my friend was able to try it. For those of you who don't know, Oaxacan mole tastes like chocolate! (One of it many ingredients, which is perfect) For dessert we shared the chocolate cake with gorgonzola ice cream, also superb!!! I liked a lot this place!! I have been told that I should visit and believe me it's worth it! Getting there can be complicated because of the traffic. It is located in a well known neighborhood where you can go to different restaurants. Getting a parking spot was tough to. I would recommend an Uber. The building has this modern mexican style. You can find someone making tortillas. The tables at the garden are really nice. An interior garden in the big city :) Service was a little slow. I guess because they tend to have lots of people for weekend's breakfast. The food is wonderful and really has a twist of usual mexican stuff. They combine tastes.
