I recently came here with a group and I must say that Azul did a great job handling our large party. I didn't organize it but it was a friends birthday and I was invited to join. Good experience at Azul on Saturday evening. They had several outside tables which were mostly full, so we sat inside since it was largely empty. That changed pretty quickly as the inside filled too; got very noisy once it did. There's a large public parking lot around the corner. Our server was friendly and food came out quickly. Their free salsa was very tasty; it helped add some flavor to a couple of their less flavorful items. They weren't bad, just a little bland. The sampler appetizer included nachos at the bottom, so the chips were a bit soggy by the time we got down to them; honestly the nachos were mostly lettuce. The guac was good, and the jalapeños provided a nice flavor. The taquitos weren't overly flavorful but the salsa and guac helped. I must say the cheese dip was watery and the brown gravy-like sauce just wasn't very good. Overall the food was good, but not great. We split the sampler and both left full since it was plenty of food for two. We enjoyed our visit to Azul and wouldn't hesitate to go again, but would probably try some different items next time. read more

I've been here a few times and I absolutely love their cucumber margaritas. Especially the spicy ones. I always order the chicken quesadilla fajita but I never eat the tortilla bc it's usually very soggy! I mostly just dump the chicken and veggies and eat it like rice chicken and salad. Azul Mexicano is Tex-Mex style restaurant located in the heart of Park Circle. It's a smaller restaurant, but I was surprised with the amount of seating available. Options include inside and out. We had gotten our table outside, and even being alongside the main road in town, we were only disrupted by the occasional loud car or motorcycle driving by. Very far and few between thankfully. Azul Mexicano drink packed with plenty of house specialty cocktails and tequilas, also a solid domestic and import beer list. I started with a Azul's Treasure margarita and I may be the only one to complain that the tequila was overpowering the margherita. And please do not think I don't appreciate a strong drink, I was just really looking forward to the taste of a specialty marg. This one was still very refreshing as it included Grand Marnier, fresh lime juice, agave and orange juice. For starters we ordered the Queso Fundido which was a standard queso Blanco. The added chorizo is what made it worthwhile. I really would have enjoyed the queso a little more if they kicked it up a notch, by maybe adding taco seasoning to the queso. Still a solid cheese dip. We also ordered the ceviche, which came in one of the largest portions I have ever seen. The seafood tasted fresh, I just wish there was more citrus and cilantro flavors going through out the whole dish and not just certain bites. For my mains I ordered one of each, a fish, shrimp, and chorizo taco. The tacos easily were the star of the show. Not that I have a taco bias or anything, they were all delicious tacos. I also really enjoyed the green sauce it was served with. Very light and creamy but had a spicy kick at the end. This should be served with every item on the menu. I also ordered pork enchiladas; they were good. Nothing special about that, but nothing bad to say about them either. I wish more spices and seasonings were used so each bite you greeted with a burst of flavor. It was also plated with an unnecessary amount of refried beans, guac, lettuce & tomatoes. Azul Mexicana is in a prime location to meet with friends in the heart of Park Circle, great starting place to grab a bite to eat before heading to another one of the local bars or wine shops in the area. The service was fast and the food came out very quickly! Both meat options lacked flavor and seasoning, making it difficult to enjoy the tacos and making the overall experience disappointing. The portion sizes were decent, but unfortunately, that couldn't make up for the lack of taste in the main ingredients. I also ordered rice with a side of beans. The amount of rice and the three enchiladas was a one to one ratio. I don't know if I should complain or not because I love rice, but the enchiladas were the main dish. I thought the portion of the enchiladas was small and the inside was pretty dry, but all three sauces are very delicious. Parking space is available almost anywhere is park circle. I stopped in here last week for lunch with a few others. There were only four of us, but we came in close to 1pm, so it took a minute to get a table following the lunch rush. No big deal as it was to be expected since they can't take reservations. Service was quick and courteous once we sat down, but this place can be really loud, so if you're meeting with clients or have trouble talking over noise, avoid the standard meal time rushes. It's Cinco de Mayo right!? I came to Charleston on a business trip and searched yelp to find a good place to celebrate. I decided to try Azul based on the yelp reviews. For starts the hostesses are amazing! Super friendly. I opted to sit at the bar as I was dining alone. The bartenders were super rude from the beginning. I just sat down, no menu or anything and she asks "What do I want to drink?!" I ask for a menu and she gave me a blank stare. For starters I ordered a chicken tortilla soup, I didn't like it but I did not complain. The peach margarita was delicious. I then ordered fish tacos and told the bartender I was finished with the soup. I never once complained or ask for it to be removed from ticket. Another bartender approached me and said in a rude way "That I will still need to pay for the soup"! I never asked for a refund or said I didn't like it, all I said was she can take the soup. This was very rude and I was blindsided and embarrassed. Even if I did complain, in which I didn't, how dare you tell a customer they have to pay for something that is bland and not good??? While the staff was friendly, the food was by far the worst Mexican I've ever had because of how flavorless it was. The queso was a little loose and lacked any real flavor and the entrees were just as sad. They looked amazing but lacked even the most basic seasoning. I've never been to any restaurant where I can't even taste salt or pepper. Both my fiancé and I had different dishes with different proteins and it was as if we had lost our sense of taste from COVID.
