Went here for brunch. Had great service but place was mostly empty, however we came late (~1:45 on a Sunday). Got the trio dip, husband enjoyed the smoky flavor of the salsa. I liked how it set itself apart from most Mexican restaurant salsa. The guac and cheese were good. Guac could have used a little more salt but it was fresh which made the flavor bright. I got the torta, not enough meat for my taste. My husband got the tacos with the bone marrow and it was exactly what he was looking for. We will be back to try more dishes

Que Onda is so GOOD! Me and my girls were looking for some quick good eats while we were needing to get away from a party for a bit but the food was excellent. The service was amazing. We all enjoyed our food. I wish I had pictures, but I totally forgot to grab some because we were having such a good time. I got the quesadillas and they were so incredible. The street corn was also pretty good too, and I enjoyed the Mexican rice. If you're looking for a quick place to go grab some food and uptown and I wanna go enjoy definitely check this out.

After a game at the stadium we wanted to grab some food & drinks, we came across this place & going by the reviews seemed like a good place to try. Drinks Sorbet swirl , omg these were great, nice taste good amount of alcohol as well. Also had agua Fresca , mango smoothie both good. On the food started w the Chicharrones, gotta love the crunchy fried taste to these very tasty. I had the Flautas so good, good tasting meat. On the Tacos , shrimp , Coca-Cola carnitas , arrachera all very tasty. Next round of tacos Birria , carnitas , arrachera , so good nice flavor to the meats. Cute place inside not very big, fun decor , good music playing. service was great our waitress was very nice & attentive, prices are reasonable. We really enjoyed this place everything we had was very good & those sorbet drinks were a hit.

Que Onda is my favorite Mexican spot in Charlotte, no question. The atmosphere is always fun and lively, the staff is incredibly friendly, and it's the perfect place for drinks and apps with friends. Such fun and authentic options, I honestly haven't had a bad thing there , everything is 10/10 every single time.

We stopped by Que Onda Tacos in Charlotte, NC today for a casual lunch. The atmosphere was lively and had a strong Hispanic vibe, which we enjoyed--it gave the place an authentic and welcoming feel immediately. We started with the trio--guac, queso, and salsa. The salsa had a nice kick, and the guac was fresh, but nothing stood out flavor-wise. For the main dishes, I had the chicken taco salad which came in a fried taco bowl. It had all the basics--lettuce, tomato, corn, beans, and chicken. It was good, but pretty average in flavor. The kids had ground beef tacos with beans (they had a little kick to them) and a chicken quesadilla, which my daughter enjoyed. My husband went for the birria tacos, and while he liked the taste, he was disappointed that the broth spilled onto his plate, soaking the tacos, and the server didn't offer to replace them. We also tried a Paloma and a margarita, which were okay but not particularly memorable. All in all, it's a decent spot for a quick, casual lunch. We were pleased with the service, and while the food was fine, it didn't blow us away. Not sure if we'd go out of our way to return.

This Tex Mex is delicious and the service was fast and friendly. The tacos were a great deal and very tasty. The salsa and chips were great too. Want to go back to try the fajitas!

Came to Charlotte for my '23 birthday trip. I went to Que Onda for lunch. I was doing my research and once I saw the birria tacos and $3 mimosas? I said sign me up! The mimosas were good. I got pineapple and passionfruit. I ordered the birria tacos entrée that came with 3 tacos, beans and rice. DELISH! I am still thinking about those tacos; the beef was tender and flavorful. They did their thing!

Everything was perfect! Staff was amazing, just so kind and sweet. All the food was amazing. The music was great. The whole experience was I give them a 10/10!!!

Empanadas

My wife and I were flying out of concord and stopped in with our bags! Our waitress Alex was very nice and encouraging. Definitely a bright smile! We ordered the trio dip (salsa was great!), 2x Beef empanadas (delicious) and a milanese torta (good but I was already pretty full). This is a great stop for anyone just off the tram!

This is my second time here and every time I come it blows my mind! The food is always seasoned and served hot and fresh! The service is fast and efficient. The staff took very good care of us. It's a cute space downtown with ample parking.

I ordered the chicken fajitas and churros. Both were excellent, tasty and fresh! The chicken is thinly sliced and fits perfectly in tortillas.

I would move to Charlotte just to eat here everyday. Birria tacos 10/10. The margarita sorbet was one of the best things I've ever had, delicious! Service was also great!

Birria ramen

I always go here but today may be my last. They gave me spaghetti noodles instead of ramen and spaghetti makes a difference with this dish Birria Ramen, Ramen noodles served in birria beef broth with beef birria, diced avocado, onion, cilantro, green onion, and a hard boiled egg. The spaghetti noodles do not absorb the broth and certainly doesn't pair well with the heartiness of the brown beef sauce. I would've preferred being asked before just given this nonsense! Super upset and this is my neighborhood spot I frequent often. My server was awesome as usual but if they didn't tell her for the substitution in The kitchen that's annoying. The location is still cute with the art around, but my dish tonight, has me so upset. Not cool dude.

With its subdued lighting, faded brick walls and tightly packed tables, it's the perfect spot to escape with a bottle of tequila on a rainy Friday night. But if your circumstances aren't quite so desperate, Que Onda is also a great destination for an intimate date night or an evening with friends. On a recent visit, my wife and I started with a bowl of chips and queso, accompanied by a pair of oversized house margaritas. When I complained to our server about my drink's disappointing lack of kick, he took it off the bill and recommended the far superior Patron Cadillac Margarita, which improved my mood in a hurry. For dinner, I dove into a delicious taco combo platter of steak, carnitas and baja fish, while my wive enjoyed a tasty Taco Salad. Service was outstanding throughout our meal, the prices were reasonable, and the ambiance superb. Well worth a visit if you're looking for solid Mexican food and margaritas in Charlotte.

The restaurant was packed when I arrived around 1:30 p.m., which is usually a good sign. It appears to be a converted fast-food building with its own parking lot, outdoor patio, and a casual, family-friendly atmosphere. Despite the Charlotte heat pushing triple digits, the dining room was comfortable and bustling. Service was friendly from the start, and I was quickly seated with ice water, lemon, fresh chips, and three house-made salsas. The chips were excellent--fresh, crisp, and clearly made in-house. The standout salsa for me was the red salsa, which packed plenty of heat and flavor. There was also a tomatillo salsa and a creamy green avocado-style salsa. Both were good, although the tomatillo leaned a little too tart for my taste. The menu is extensive, with everything from seafood dishes and quesadillas to tacos and larger combination plates. As someone who loves sampling a little of everything, I was hoping for more traditional combo options, but this menu takes a different approach. I ordered the crispy taco plate with rice and beans. The presentation was attractive, with the tacos served upright in a metal rack alongside refried beans and Mexican rice. The rice and beans were both delicious and easily the highlight of the plate. Where things got mixed for me was the taco filling. I was expecting a straightforward seasoned ground beef taco, but the beef filling tasted more like a guisado-style preparation with a softer texture and a slightly tangy flavor profile. It may simply be a regional style or a misunderstanding when ordering, but it wasn't what I had anticipated. The chicken taco, however, was excellent. Tender, flavorful, and clearly made with higher-quality chicken than you typically find in a crispy taco. After trying it, I immediately wished I had ordered all chicken. While this visit didn't completely win me over, I don't think it's fair to judge a restaurant by one dish. The packed dining room, friendly service, fresh chips, excellent salsas, and strong chicken taco all suggest there's more to explore here. Next time, I'd skip the crispy beef tacos and dive into the street tacos or some of the house specialties that seem to be what many regulars were ordering. Tacos El Nevado didn't become my favorite Mexican restaurant in Charlotte on this visit, but it earned a second chance. Life is too short not to eat well, Charlotte. Keep exploring. Sometimes the next great meal is just one menu item away.

But I have to start with a small heartbreak: my beloved puffy taco is gone. I grew up in San Antonio, Texas, where the puffy taco was created, and it's deeply nostalgic for me. It's not a sope, not a tostada--it's a true puffy taco, light, airy, and unlike anything else. For a long time, Superica made one that came remarkably close to what I grew up with. Unfortunately, after changes in leadership and kitchen management, it quietly disappeared from the menu. That was a real disappointment. That said, I still come back--because the food here is consistently good. The crispy tacos with picadillo are my current favorite. Picadillo (P-I-C-A-D-I-L-L-O) is a traditional Latin dish with many regional variations, and this version reminds me of the one my grandmother used to make in San Antonio. The portions are generous, the flavors are balanced, and the menu offers something for everyone--from enchiladas and chile rellenos to steaks and fresh tableside guacamole. Speaking of guacamole, I'm a purist. I like it simple: avocado, jalapeño, cilantro, lime, garlic--chunky and clean. Superica delivers on that. The chips and salsa are bottomless, the salsa has great depth of flavor, and for those who like heat, they offer a tiny dropper of hot sauce that is smoky, bold, and absolutely not for the faint of heart. The ginger margarita is another standout. It comes with a generous piece of crystallized ginger and has a bright, balanced flavor that makes it easy to order a second one. And if you have room for dessert, do not skip the tres leches cake--rich, decadent, and a perfect way to end the meal. I also appreciate the little touches here: * Friendly, knowledgeable waitstaff * A lively bar area that's great for happy hour * A beautiful outdoor patio that makes al fresco dining feel special * And a fun tradition of sending you home with a packaged Texas praline This South End location is my personal favorite. It feels more adult and relaxed, while the Strawberry Hill location tends to be more family-heavy. Both are good, but the vibe here suits me better. Yes, prices have crept up a bit--as they have everywhere--but the quality, consistency, and atmosphere keep me coming back. And as someone who travels frequently for work across multiple states, I appreciate that Superica maintains a dependable standard wherever I encounter it. Bottom line: Even without the puffy taco, Superica remains one of my favorite Tex-Mex spots in Charlotte. Come hungry, bring friends, share plates--and as always, travel safe and eat well.
