Went here for brunch. Had great service but place was mostly empty, however we came late (~1:45 on a Sunday). Got the trio dip, husband enjoyed the smoky flavor of the salsa. I liked how it set itself apart from most Mexican restaurant salsa. The guac and cheese were good. Guac could have used a little more salt but it was fresh which made the flavor bright. I dined in with my best friend on Cinco De Mayo at around 2:30. We asked to be seated on the patio. We watched another table be seated after us, yet get greeted and have their orders taken before us. The manager brought us out some queso and chips as an I'm sorry. I specifically asked the server, Ohran, what tacos were included in the 2.50 street tacos listed on their board as their Tuesday special and was told all of them. I then asked him again "so all the tacos are considered street tacos" and he said yes. So, imagine my surprise when we received the receipts and were charged full price. The manager came over and basically said there was nothing that he was able to do because there were no specials being ran on cinco de mayo & his employee said that he did not say that. Of course he's gonna say that. He doesn't wanna take the fall. I worked at Maggiano's and Red Lobster for about 10 years total so I know how the serving life is but the fact that I had to go flag down someone to get service, we asked twice for waters and didn't receive them until the third ask, we didn't get napkins until after our food was out and we had to ASK for them and then we get told the wrong price???? Yeah I'll never be back and that sucks because the tacos were so good thanks to the Honduran chef who smokes a lot of weed (that's what our server told us. We stopped by Que Onda Tacos in Charlotte, NC today for a casual lunch. The atmosphere was lively and had a strong Hispanic vibe, which we enjoyed--it gave the place an authentic and welcoming feel immediately. We started with the trio--guac, queso, and salsa. The salsa had a nice kick, and the guac was fresh, but nothing stood out flavor-wise. For the main dishes, I had the chicken taco salad which came in a fried taco bowl. It had all the basics--lettuce, tomato, corn, beans, and chicken. It was good, but pretty average in flavor. The kids had ground beef tacos with beans (they had a little kick to them) and a chicken quesadilla, which my daughter enjoyed. My husband went for the birria tacos, and while he liked the taste, he was disappointed that the broth spilled onto his plate, soaking the tacos, and the server didn't offer to replace them. We also tried a Paloma and a margarita, which were okay but not particularly memorable. All in all, it's a decent spot for a quick, casual lunch. The spaghetti noodles do not absorb the broth and certainly doesn't pair well with the heartiness of the brown beef sauce. I would've preferred being asked before just given this nonsense! Found this place on Instagram, with a reel of the sorbet margarita flights ($20 for the flight, which aren't listed on the menu and i think are only at the uptown & plaza midwood locations). Sunday brunch wasn't too crowded, we sat outside the weather was so nice. As far as I'm aware there is no comp parking, if you drive you pay to park everywhere. Street parking is free Sundays. We went for CLT taco week so we had to order their specialty short rib taco which isn't on the regular menu. It was DELICIOUS! The best taco we had all week for sure. We split the nachos (no meat) which were good, not the *best* nachos I've had, but still really good. The black bean is the highlight on the nachos. We also split the pork pipian which was so yummy. The corn puree was sweet, we loved it. Pork was crispy and perfectly cooked. The green pipian sauce was something I had never eaten before and I was pleasantly surprised by the taste. My favorite chain restaurant! When it comes to Mexican restaurants, Charlotte has wayyyy too many local authentic locations to bother with terrible chain food. But, there is an exception! Que Onda is quality burritos/tacos/drinks from an incredible staff. I stopped by for their lunch special on a Tuesday, it ends at 3:00pm at the time of this review. Style points for even having a "happy hour". It consist of burritos and enchiladas with lunch portions. I really enjoyed my chicken burrito, it was coated in their white queso sauce. The size was plenty for one person, the filling of beans, rice and chicken was just right. The flavor was incredible, it tasted fresh and the chicken was seasoned and juicy without being overly salty. They also provide chips and salsa for free (a deal breaker, and decider for me if they charge for chips and salsa), and Que Onda passed with flying colors. The location is excellent, right at the top of where uptown starts. You'll have to find street parking, which isn't a challenge at the part of uptown. There is a small patio out front, but an excellent spot to people watch a get a feel for uptown. The staff is friendly and attentive, which is all you can ask for. This location at least at the time had a large number of Latinx working in the kitchen, and as host. I do appreciate some representation of the food I'm eating being reflected in the staff. The only section listed for "Chef Specials" was the brunch menu as we were there on Sunday afternoon. There was no other Chef Special section in the main menu. When asked why the 4 meals we purchased didn't receive the $3 discount, the waitress told us that only applied to the standard menu items listed under "Main Entrees", which made no sense whatsoever. They have clearly gotten this feedback and she even said they were changing the menu, so why wouldn't you tell the table before this???? Also, the brunch was not great. Who serves brunch without coffee??? My dish was an entire 8 inch tin can of dried nacho chips. It was done for presentation, but such an unnecessary waste of food. There was no sauce mixed into all of these chips because it had dried amongst the ocean of tortilla chips. There was barely any other filling inside. No bueno.
