I had my door looked at Tuesday and I was told the strike ( thats what they call the latch part ) was broken and I was told i would get a call about the part. I called Thursday and no one answered the phone and then today and they told me its a special part blah blah blah, and they I was told the technician is going to have a meeting the following Monday about this. It will be a more than a week until I would of gotten an answer and what is worse no one called or said anything until I called. Just bought a (new to me) Jeep and needed 2 remote key Fobs cut and programmed. Asked for an estimate from local dealership and was quoted $320 per key Fob. Just a bit to expensive for me. I had a car key copied. One glaring difference I noticed when I had the key copied, the technician (sorry I forgot the guys name) asked proof that the car does belong to me and not some random person who has no business having my keys copied. Have you left your car and keys to a mechanic, a valet parking your car or an installation shop? I work for a local police dept. ( 30 yrs. and counting) and unfortunately their are people out there with bad intentions. Most locksmiths I've used just takes the keys, copies it and hands you the duplicate w/o checking if you're the registered owner. So I thank B&B Locksmith for being LEGIT and that is why I'll be sticking with them. I contacted B&B Locksmith upon the recommendation of a fellow NextDoor.com neighbor who gave the company a glowing recommendation. My basement door knob had fallen apart and I wanted a new lock set installed. After I made the appointment, I remembered that the front door lock was giving me some problems and that the door wouldn't even latch shut, thus always requiring the deadbolt. The very personable Robert arrived promptly as scheduled, and discovered that the basement knob wasn't broken -- just missing some screws, which he replaced. Door knob fixed -- no replacement necessary. The front door was indeed a problem, so Robert fixed the lock and made new keys for it. Then he took a grinder to the latch strike, grinding until the latch effortlessly took hold. Robert really saved the day!!! Couldn't have gone better! I reached out to about 5 locksmiths for help installing a Nest x Yale lock on an old Victorian home - something I failed to accomplish on my own the moment I realized that a) the spacing was going to be a tight fit and then b) the hole for the previous lock was a bit smaller than the standard size used today. When you're in an older home, you get used to things being weird, off-center, slanted, broken, painted over, etc, but I was committed to not letting this new lock end up being yet another one of those "quirks" you're supposed to love about old homes. I wanted it to be perfectly aligned, look good, and keep me safe. Manny came out and did an incredible job, walking me through the two options we were considering while explaining the risk of both. I had originally resigned myself to retaining my older lock and just adding the smart lock further up on the door, but turns out someone in the past 100 years had already filled a hole in that spot and there would be some risk in trying to bore through an unknown plug (was it metal, wood, wood filler?). We ultimately decided to replace the existing lock and enlarge the hole, but in doing so, move the hole up a bit to give the lock a bit more clearance with the handle. Manny explained every possible downside (some unpainted areas exposed, a little bit of the side cutout being exposed, etc) before proceeding and then made sure it was all level, aligned, and looking good. I'm really happy with how this all turned out and almost just as importantly, knowing I've found a great locksmith I can trust for some of the other work we may want to do in the future. read more
