Very disappointed with the way this place conducted business today. For weeks i have been looking forward to going to the pickle festival at the pickle barrel from 12p-5p. We drive up from denver and get here at 12:30p and they are closed. We sat there and waited for a half hour and nothing. No one answers the phone listed and there was no announcement on the facebook page or website that it was cancelled. Several people were out front when we got there and were saying the same thing. We love this place! Across the street from CSU so it gets busy during lunch time but the line goes fairly quick. They have a large menu of sandwiches and a few different homemade soups each day. They serve breakfast and lunch. My favorite sandwich is the funky punky. Turkey, on a hoagie roll with avocado, tomato, grilled onion , salsa and melted provolone cheese. I add sautéed mushrooms. The Rueben is also a favorite. They also have a few sweets to chose from. There is a full Bar in the front and is a nice place to sit and eat and enjoy a beer. It's a hometown kind of feel and been around since 1988. Great service and delicious, filling sandwiches. It's a go to when we want a warm sandwich and a cold beer in a friendly environment . We each ordered a different sandwich so we could each have a taste of two items. For my taste, the toonces was a fail. I don't know if the ranch dressing was overwhelming everything else in the sandwich but I only could have two bites before I had to put it down for good. The chicken Philly was actually good however the problem I had was at the bread was a sandwich cut bread, meaning two slices one on top of the other, so everything kept falling out of the sandwich. I guess I'm used to Philly as being served in a submarine style bread where everything stays contained and you can masterfully get every last bite without anything falling out. The restaurant staff was attentive and personable and the bar area was very nice, something that would welcome us back due to the number of taps available. They have a nice beer garden in the back and all in all the restaurant was a pretty good experience. read more

This place went from the best sandwich in the country to no longer enjoyable. 20yrs of loving the Pickle Barrel, and for some reason they changed the method how they cook the sandwiches, changed the bread, changed the French onion soup recipe, changed the pickle brine, etc... for the worse. Upon first bite of my Toonces, the cheese was melted but cold and had become a slimy undesirable texture. I made it about 1/4 through the sandwich before I couldn't eat any more. The French onion soup is a new recipe and much too sweet, ate half of it in disappointment. Finally, seeing how the pickles looked differently than before, tried a bite and was put off by the new brine they're using, only ate one bite. Everything is temporary and the past establishment for over 20yrs was some of the best food in the country. Heartbreaking to witness coming to an end. read more

The food is alright. It's nothing to scream over. But closing at 4PM on a Saturday is; considering how much they charge through services like Nosh etc. rude business practice. They gouge the hell out of you having to order through third party systems If you want delivery; and they love being this way. There's no weekend schedule that works feasibly. The residence of FoCo should be catered to as well not just pandering to the college. Because mediocre food is just what I need sometimes but on reflection it's a good thing. No one should be charged so much and being forced to use third party systems is just a business tactic to earn more money. $28 for one sandwich and a side? Are you joking? From a fast food place.... It's not artisanal in any manner. I work in an actual small business. We stay open past closing hours just to ensure the satisfaction of customers coming in. In fact, if customers are still coming we DO NOT close. Bc... you know... money? That thing. Never close until you sell out of product on a normal business day. The service was AWESOME and fast and they had great portion size. NOW to the bad This is the 3rd owner who took over 6 weeks ago. I am sad to say they have gotten rid of half the menu, the prices are higher but most importantly the FOOD IS NOT THE SAME! They tried to tell me it was the same sandwich. It was NOT. It was NOTHING like Tobin's Tummy Pleaser or Funky Punky as the original owner created. The sandwich was a nice big sandwich. However, Very bland. Did not taste at all like before. They have changed the pickles too, I did not even finish it. Did not like it at all. Finally, we ordered 2 sandwiches, 1 beer, 1 water and one soup. Lunch with tip $51.43. Should have not sat at the bar, had to tip. Overall very disappointed. "IF IT IS NOT BROKE, DON'T FIX IT". Keep the nostalgia and EXACT recipe's that made it a go to in Fort Collins. Always make a stop at the barrel when I'm back in town to visit. Was excited they re-opened but disappointed in the changes. Prices have increased, but I know it's like that everywhere. Unfortunately the food isn't the same. Toonces on wheat was always my go to with a side of cheesy potato soup. The sandwich isn't the same and very disappointed. The bread is different which is a huge downgrade, the Avo spread instead of sliced Avo was another bummer but something else was off. Not sure if the cheese was different or not as melted like olden days but something was off. Cheesy potato also has a layer of melted cheese on top. Who doesn't like more cheesy but takes away from what was great in the past. Hopefully owners will bring back the old. read more

My wife and I used to frequent this establishment quite often in the early 2000's. We thought we'd order from them today. Reason being, foco really seems to lack any good deli's. I ordered a Jan. 14 on rye and a Chirsty's special. I live relatively close by, (about a mile). Both were served hot and to go. But, when I got home and served it up. It was something less than expected. Now, take for granted this place is staffed by college students. But, none the less the quality of said products and wait time was below par. They definitely didn't hit there mark. That's for sure. As you can see by the pictures the "Special" loos like it sat on a dashboard of your car for half the day. Not to mention the Avocado stem that was an added bonus to the "special." And the Jan 14 was basically the same way. The flavor was there. But, sub par. We loved this place in the past. We made our visit for midafternoon on a business day and sat with one or two other customers in the joint so it was quiet and there was lots of basketball on their many televisions to watch. Having not recalled the last time if any being in this joint, I'm going to say for the first time visit, absolutely great food, great service, and terrific atmosphere! I had the Cajun Chicken Salad which was delicious - loved all the flavors especially the vinaigrette salad dressing. I finished the whole thing! My boyfriend ordered the Reuben and absolutely loved it as well! He took home half to eat later. We were able to get refills on our nonalcoholic beverages and service was super kind and quick and friendly. The price was so well worth the whole experience of this meal and at this place. If you haven't been and love lunch salads and sandwiches, this is well worth a visit in to try and good Reuben and a terrific Cajun chicken salad in a cute and sports bar feel during the midday eating period! read more

First visit since the reopening, decent remodel inside although I did notice the trash can blocking the back entrance ramp door that we do use for our son occasionally who uses a wheelchair but we came in the front door this time. Ordering with one person and paying with another was much easier than ordering and paying at the "register". The woman taking our order was rude and didn't once make eye contact with us, it took longer than necessary for us to order because she couldn't figure out where everything was on the tablet. Ordered our "regular" the Funky Punky, overall it was decent but not like the originals, I wasn't pleased with the avocado mush spread on it the sandwich vs the avocado slices they previously used....go back to the slices. read more

With all the ownership changes and complete staff turnover since The Vid, I wasn't expecting the sandwiches to be quite the same. But wasn't prepared for the wholesale changes. It's good, but far more messy with the mayo sauce - which didn't really belong on a chicken philly. The real dissapointment was the eponymous pickle. Absolutely no tang. If you want to seriously overpay for a mediocre sandwich and be treated like your presence is a major inconvenience, this is the place for you. The whole experience was awful, and it ended with my food being thrown on the counter and the kid behind it pointing at it as my indication it was ready. Then as soon as I got to the door he was comfortable enough to yell out "YOU'RE WELCOME!" I feel bad for the owner.
