B&E Meats & Seafood we just stumbled across as we were exploring downtown Des Moines (Washington) and Steve wanted to go in and check out the place. The meat and seafood selection here is considerable! I didn't spot a whole lot exotic meats that I have seen at other meat shops but this is still a really cool place! Lots of fresh meat and seafood at your disposal. The staff here was super friendly and helpful! They had refrigerated cases of craft beer in cans so we found some that we didn't think would be as easy to find in Tacoma and took it home and enjoyed it. This was a very pleasant stop and one worth making a return to. We will bring refrigerated bags next time and get some meats ! read more

Stopped in this morning and picked up some kalbi chicken thighs and pepperoni. On the way home, I had to sample the pepperoni. It was perfectly spiced with a little kick. It was fresh with no fillers. The snap from the natural casing added to the culinary experience. For lunch, I grilled up the chicken. It was wonderfully flavored and every bite was a delight. Everyone enjoyed it. Service was great and friendly. The inside had an incredible smell of smoked meats. I saw they had smoked chicken wings. I will definitely need to come back and load up. Their candy salmon hands down the best ever. Definitely expensive but always has been worth it . I got .5 lb of it for like 7$ which honestly wasn't bad, pretty filling. Their meats and seafood is always super moist . Wish I had one of these stores where I'm at now but I think they ship too so I'll look into it. Staff has amazing customer service no doubt. I wanted to get a good prime rib roast for a holiday dinner and this place was suggested to me. A little out of the way, but it ended up being totally worth it. The meat cutter worked with me on size and portions and cut and restrung the roast. They even gave me some special rub for smoking it. I followed their directions as well of those of a few people on YouTube and it turned out perfectly, medium rare. It was a great cut of meat and I appreciated all the help and suggestions. They have Everything you could ask for and more. I'm from California and I love pastrami and I haven't found any place that serves a hot pastrami the way I like it. Someone recommended this place and lo and behold pastrami. They had dog bones for my dog. This store has all my needs when it comes to meat, fish dog food and let's not forget the beef jerky. PRICEY BUT FOR A REASON - It's not often I review things outside of restaurants but B&E Meats deserves recognition. It's an excellent butcher with slightly elevated prices, but consistent with what you'd pay for premium cuts, B&E is where we would go when we wanted to do better than what we'd get at Costco, but the premium prices meant this was only for special occasions. Protip - get the landjager sausages, they can be eaten immediately or cooked as an excellent andouille alternative. These were by far my favorite sausages in the Sound. The staff was also super attentive and the shop looked great, so it was a fun experience overall even if you were just taking a look. read more

This was a very pleasant surprise. I've been working around the Seattle area for about the last 2 1/2 weeks. I haven't taken too much time to venture out. Today, I had some extra time and I decided to drive around a little town. And I found this meat market. I live in Arizona and I have a meat market similar near my house. The first thing I noted was the wide selection of items they have. Different dips, cheeses, meats, snack, items, drink drinks, you name it. But what really stood out to me was the customer service and the friendliness of the staff! I ordered a few snack items and told them I would be back to grab some things to cook for dinner. This is a regular spot when going through DesMoines. I HAVE to stop. This is a butcher with the best meat and seafood selection. When you go in ask for a sample of the candy smoked salmon. It's kind of spendy but worth every dime. I never buy less than a pound. Also the "boneless" kalbi ribs on the bbq you will NEVER regret. They are perfect on the bbq. Went for the first time on a Saturday. Rookie mistake there were over ten patriots in the store which is small. Everyone crowded up to the glass case so you cannot see much. The staff is pushing people through! Broadcasting "do you know what you want? " I had questions they were answered but felt like I was being a nuisance and was asked again if I knew what I wanted! I gave up my questions and purchased a couple prime steaks and smoked salmon. The NY steaks were cut thick but narrow. We grilled them and they were ok. I think he might not of given me the prime in all the rushing. The smoked salmon was bit fishy smelling ( more than it normally smells) and extremely salty for my liking. This place is incredible! I love love love that hometown feel that butcher shops give off. It is local love in the meatiest of ways! We had a friends that said they had the best jerky ever and they were not wrong. The jerky is AWARD WINNING and I am not even kidding you, we ordered so many different kinds. Buffalo, Tri - Tip, Salmon, and a few more. The food is fresh, the service was quick and we were in complete road trip mode so having snacks in the backseat that were tasty and local made it even better. The smoked candied salmon was absolutely incredible. I still dream of it. We also purchased a bbq rub that we have been using on EVERYTHING. Love! My recommendation: the Kalbi beef short ribs. They are a hit at BBQ's, a good option for quick but delicious entree', they cook up easy on a grill or even stove top. A longtime family tradition has been shattered! B&E Meats has cheaped out and no longer offers smoked Pacific salmon. It's farmed Atlantic salmon, which is fed genetically engineered soy pellets, engineered to resist roundup, which it is fully saturated with and the salmon flesh absorbs this chemical. B&E can give me any reason why that they want that they switched but I have NO DOUBT it all boils down to cost. Stop being so cheap and bring back wild Pacific smoked salmon!!! I came in search of a good quality butcher shop. When I parked at B & E, the store front was unassuming and there were many parking spots available. However, the place was packed! I placed my order, and one of the many surprisingly bright, alert, and happy-to-help associates packed it up and sent me on my way. I've been back several times since and I will continue to return for several reasons: *Their products are AMAZING. Their meat cuts are so sensational, they are mouth-watering without seasoning! Apart from fresh product, they also have a frozen section (the quality of your life will severely improve if you try the chicken, spinach and feta sausages!), wine & beer sections, and spices, rubs, crackers, sauces, jerky, almonds, and more! *The staff aims for nothing less than excellent customer service... like people used to focus on in the past. B&E is my go to Butcher, always has always will be. I have gone to them for years. Everyone is always friendly, kind and helpful. Greet you with a smile and have great suggestions. This last visit I needed to pick up Crab meat for a dish I am making, my roommate has a shellfish allergy. I asked them to special package it so that it wouldn't affect her and they were more than willing to accommodate me. She put the crab container in a plastic bag then wrapped it in their brown butcher paper. That type of customer service is a gold star in my book. 5 stars is not nearly enough for them. B & E is my #1 spot for high quality cuts of meat. This is mainly where I go for steak- ribeye and NY are what I usually get. The thick bone-in pork chops are also really good- way better cut than what you'd get at a supermarket. Their freezer section is my favorite part though. I like to cook liver (and onions and add in a side of some red bell peppers too), and this place is always stocked. I used to get the regular beef liver, but now I pay extra to get the veal liver. The margin for error for liver is slim, but if it's done right, the veal liver has a more buttery overall texture. I come in quite often to pick up whatever I feel like cooking. The people that work here are super nice and always fun to talk to. I'm always satisfied with my purchases here. read more

I got here at 6:26 PM on a Friday. They close at 6:30 and I can see there are people inside. I pulled up and got out of my car. Another couple enters right before me and hold the door open for me as I'm right behind them. Suddenly the other door opens and an employee steps out and says oh I'm sorry we're closed. I said oh OK but these people just walked in right before me and you should still have a few minutes left? He says no we're closed. I'm standing there kind of confused because literally two people just walked in two steps before me. I said so you don't want my money? And the guy says no. Pretty rude if you ask me. If you're going to be closed a few minutes early, don't selectively let people in who are walking in. It was really embarrassing having two people walk in before me and then being told specifically that I can't come in. We get all of our meat from B & E. We go once every 6 weeks or so and purchase one of their big meat packs. They come well packaged and labeled in nice butcher paper. They will let you sub up to two items if there is something in the meat pack you don't want. Every single type of meat we have tried has been top notch, quality, and delicious. Can't wait to try some of their jerky and goodies. We drive 25 minutes each way to their store and it's well worth it. read more

This is an amazing and also my most favorite butcher shop right on the main strip of Des Moines off of Marine View Drive. Usually parking for businesses on this street are scarce but not for this meat market. People are in and out. You can usually find a spot right in the front. It's very easy to get in and out of. Upon entering, you're immediately greeted if they aren't too busy. The customer service is top notch. They'll answer any and all questions. It's a small shop with two long refrigerated display cabinets that are set up alongside each other. They have varying assortment of meats and seafood -- very fresh!! Their Hawaiian Pork Roast is amazing!! It's pork shoulder wrapped in banana leaves. Their candied salmon is to die for. It's not cheap by any means at $24.99 per pound but very worth it! I also buy their peppered bacon as the weekend approaches. It's one of my favorite weekend treats to have with breakfast. Their bratwursts are sooo good as well as their pepperoni sticks. They have a prepackaged freezer section and I've purchased a rack of ribs to try out. They were smoked and slow cooked on my Weber kettle grill and it was so delicious! They'll also have a variety of goodies. Such as candies, nuts, etc. Those varies depending on stock. You can also find an array of spices and sauces. I have yet to try their cuts of steaks. I usually purchase my grass fed beef directly from a farm in Cle Elum so I have a freezer full. I guess if I run low while the cows are still grazing. This would be my place to go. Had a Groupon that was going to expire - so I decided I had better head down to Des Moines - have driven by here a thousand times but had never stopped. The place was packed on a Saturday afternoon. I had read all your Yelp reviews and knew what I was going to get - I got: 3 landjaggers (2 regular - kids loved and 1 spicy - was to spicy...) 3lb Marinated tri tip at 9.99 lb (was just ok in my opinion) and 1/2 lb salmon candy at 21.99lb (was really, really good).
