Okay. I knew I was possibly setting myself up for disappointment. By nature, BBQ loses quality as the day progresses. Once the meat gets pulled from the pits, the clock is ticking. The chances of keeping even a perfect brisket tender and juicy by the dinner service are very slim. It's possible, depending on how you portion and hold the product. But it's unlikely. If your one of those people who stand in line several hours before a place opens in Central Texas, you might have a shot. I took my chances and went on a Sunday, about 5:30pm. I can't say I'm disappointed, because I knew the odds. The brisket was sliced super thin. Probably less than 1/8" thick. Very lean. No trace of fat cap or streaks of fat. It wasn't bone dry, but it wasn't super moist either. Some more fat content would've helped the cause. It was generously sauced and flavorful. But it wasn't as tender and juicy as it could've been The food came out lightning fast, so I was surprised the fries were as good as they were. They were made before I got there if they made it to the plate before I even got my drink from the soda fountain. But they were hot, crispy and tasty. The beans were flavorful, but I think some fat drippings would've improved it. There were noticeable bits of meat (brisket and burnt ends) mixed in with the beans, but it lacked that special something. And heck, they invented cholesterol meds for a reason. The service at the counter was genuinely friendly. Not the fake friendly you get from the budtender at a cannabis shop who wants to know what you're doing this weekend and if you're going to the Dave Matthews concert later... I usually complain about prices in the Seattle area. $26.49 for the brisket sandwich and 2 sides. With a little over 20% tip ($6.00) that came to $35.24. But with a unlimited soft-serve included for dessert? (the machine is in the dining room). That's very fair (even though I'm a no lactose guy and couldn't partake). If you have a family to feed, that makes this place reasonable. They also get props for the suggested tip options on the tablet. Their max option is 16%. I still chose "other" and entered a dollar amount. And thank god this isn't one of those hipster places. It's a nice place with a pleasant, genuinely comfortable atmosphere. Plenty of seating inside and outside. And its worth noting you don't need a combination number, secret password or safecracking skills to use the restroom. It's just a normal door to a restroom. This IS Seattle, the Pacific Northwest, the mossback center of gravity. Here - is a loooong waaay from "The South." And being a son of the South, I sometimes get withdrawal symptoms for BBQ. This gnawed on me all day today. So, we (my Wife & I) ordered take out from BBQ Pete's here in Kent. We ordered up a full slab, beans, coleslaw, cornbread, a sandwich with no name - Oh! It was painful to even think about what was coming to my mouth! $106 later, we're in the car headed downtown. We picked up that sack of smell-so-goodness, jumped back in the car for home. Had to wait for two trains to pass, of course. We get back to the Rancho and tear open that sack. Theeere it was. Smellin' like a smoker in Heaven! The actual eatin' was a little off expectations. The full slab was nowhere near the size of the old Famous Dave's or the older Tony Roma's; but serviceable. The cornbread was good, but Yankified - they sugar it, but not bad at all. I'll have to digest if it was worth the $106 for two, but BBQ Pete's slaked my thirst for BBQ for awhile. It's not Texas, Kansas City, St. Lois, Nashville, Mobile, or even Miami, certainly not Cherry Branch or anywhere in Virginia - but we're waaaay up here, nowhere near down there. I haven't been for over a year when they first started serving Mac and cheese (4/5 stars) so I was pleasantly surprised today when it was better than I remembered it being last time! The combination platter was great, I liked the sausage (3.5/5 stars), the chicken was good (4/5 stars), the ribs were impressive (5/5 stars), and the brisket was great (5/5 stars). Huge typo in my initial review "was" = wish, and it turns out there are! Check their website. Two meat combo with sliced brisket and pulled pork. Top with some Puyallup Fair sauce and you are in BBQ heaven. I'm not even a Mac and Cheese guy but love theirs. Definitely recommend classic coleslaw over the Chipotle version I got here. I'm not a spice guy per se so that's on me for expanding my options. Loaded Potato Salad, Cornbread, Cole slaw, and beans are all great sides choices. As I was visiting from Alabama and down in SeaTac, I yelped the BBQ places in the area and settled on BBQ Pete's. A big reason why I settled on BBQ Pete's is because they have fresh-brewed sweet tea, the only way to make fantastic sweet tea! And it did not disappoint! But there was a lot more good stuff at BBQ Pete's. I asked the employees which meat I had to eat from there if this was my only time ever eating there and they said the brisket. For my entree, I ordered the "Sandwich with No Name." It comes with brisket, crispy onions, smoked provolone, a Smoky Spread, and Pete's sauce. I added a rib and the rib was better than the sandwich! My 2 sides were the loaded potato salad and beans. I love the creaminess of a baked potato salad. The beans were homemade with pork and brisket mixed in. All of the sauces were marvelous with each offering something a little different. I won't go into great detail about the sauces since there are photos here on Yelp that describe them accurately. Just know all of them are fantastic and the hot I would rank at a 4 on a scale of 1-10 with 10 being super hot. Overall, I enjoyed BBQ Pete's and would eat here again. Everything was fantastic but the employees oversold me on the brisket. This was our second visit to BBQ Pete's. Since we were in Seattle we drove 1/2 hour to this restaurant in Kent because of the reviews and great dining experience our first visit. First time was a few years ago. On that trip we ate a slab of ribs at the restaurant and it was literally falling off the bones. When I picked up a piece the meat started coming off the bone before reaching my lips. The sauces were varied, there were spicy options, and everything was scrumptious! This visit I tried a hot link that was fresh and delicious. It had nice peppered heat and didn't have that annoying chewy casing. The sauces were warm but didn't seem to hold the same appeal as before. The corn bread muffin was delicious. The real disappointment however was the slab I took back to our hotel room. We were so disappointed I forgot to take a pic. The ribs were overcooked and hard - definitely not falling off the bone tender. We tossed it. If we ever go back we will eat there for sure. Service was ok. No tatted person at the front counter running customers away lol but staff weren't warm and fuzzy either. They are very focused on getting orders out but genuinely caring and making sure customers walk away with a smile aren't really a priority. A coworker brought me to BBQ Pete's for lunch - yum! I had the pulled chicken sandwich with a side of slaw and it was absolutely delicious. We ordered at the counter and the food came out super fast, which was perfect for a lunch break. If I lived in the area, I'd definitely be back regularly to enjoy a big ol' plate of BBQ with a cold beer, topped off with their free soft serve ice cream (yes, please!). The outdoor seating was a nice bonus too - perfect for a warm, sunny day. I really liked my visit and will definitely stop by again next time I'm in town. I'm always a little skeptical about BBQ places in strip malls. All fears were put to rest once I got inside. Place is legit. I ordered the brisket and the guy asked what I wanted for a side. I said 1/4 pound of pulled pork. Got the beans too. Food came out and was delicious. Exactly what I was hoping for. I shall warn you that the brisket is sliced thin, which TBH was not expected but made for a great experience. No knife needed. Their sauces were top shelf. The place is kind of cramped with family style seating arrangements, which isn't my favorite. What struck me as odd was the menu - loads of salad choices for a BBQ place but you can't buy brisket? My husband seemed content with his dinner, but the ribs, which were touted as the best in KC were kind of meh to me. Afterward, I went for the complimentary ice cream, only to see a sign saying the machine's down and to ask at the counter. No problem. I politely asked. Instead of a normal response, I got glared at by a tattooed staff member who snapped at me with a smug, accusatory, "Did you buy something or not?" I was stunned, not by what he said, but how he said it. Condescending. Rude. Challenging. I replied, "Yes sir, want to see my receipt?" He rolled his eyes and sneered, "Heh, I guess not." I told him I didn't appreciate his tone. He didn't care. In fact, he came around the counter, physically came around, to confront me over ice cream. Are you kidding me? This is just insane? I know people have a bad day but c'mon? I said, "Forget it, I don't need the ice cream," and turned to ask for a refund. Another staff member chimed in with, "Well, we usually charge $5 for those," as if that made any of this okay. The guy just stared at me, no accountability, nothing. I thought this was a joke? This place doesn't just lack customer service sadly, it's hostile. I will never be back. BBQ Pete's in Kent has the single worst staff interaction I've experienced at any restaurant, anywhere. Delicious authentic BBQ spot! As soon as you walk in you see all of their awards- that's always a good sign! My hubby ate here a couple years ago when he was up here for work and wanted to take me. We ordered to go since it was crowded inside. We ordered A LOT of food. I mean... we gotta try everything right?! I ordered the dinner trio which came with chicken, ribs, pulled pork, and 2 sides (cornbread muffin and their amazing baked bbq beans). Hubby got the brisket dipped sandwich, with a side of brisket, cornbread muffin, baked bbq beans, and loaded potato salad. There was a section to make all our bbq sauces to go so we tried everything. I got a pork sandwich, Memphis style, which means it had coleslaw on top and a side of potato salad. It looked yummy but all I can say was it was boring. The pork had no sauce on it so it was pretty dry. I went to the containers on the counter and got additional sauce which made it better. It was a good size sandwich so did get my money's worth. The potato salad was billed as loaded potato salad which I guess means it had all the stuff you'd put on a loaded baked potato. However, it had absolutely no flavor and I didn't even finish it. My husband got the spicy chop. The nice person taking his order let him taste it before he ordered and he got a side of fries. When I asked if he'd get it again he said no. He thought the meat was dry even though it had lots of sauce on it. He did like the fries which were seasoned. Growing up in Puyallup, BBQ Pete's was a name that was always popular at the Puyallup Fair, known for their great food. When I saw there was a brick and mortar location within 6 miles of home, I decided I needed to check it out. The place is located in a small strip mall near the Amazon distribution headquarters in Kent. Walking in I could see that this place was popular. The menu was large, but easy to peruse and find exactly what I wanted. The staff were all very friendly and well-spoken, and able to answer any questions. The establishment itself was clean and organized, and also offered outdoor seating in better weather. Now the important part, the food! Both of us ordered the Chicken and Ribs combo with sides. All the meat was tender and well flavored, slid off the bone as they say. We tried the green salad, BBQ Beans, loaded potato salad and the cornbread muffins. All were a hit and I have to say the BBQ Beans were the star of the sides, bringing back memories of my uncles family recipe. If you're in the area, you'd be crazy not to give it a try. Wow!!! What a GREAT barbecue place!!! We were just looking for a quick lunch while doing some projects for our Mom in SeaTac. Found this place on Yelp! And barbecue sounded good. OH MY GOODNESS! This was amazing. We each had #8 - "The Sandwich with No Name", we split an order of fries, and each had a fountain drink. The bill was over $50, and I dare say it was worth every penny!! The brisket on the sandwich was super tender, the bun was soft and toasted perfectly, and the amount of sauce was spot on. I hate when there is so much sauce it hides the flavor of the meat. The fries were chunky crispy deliciousness, especially dipped in the smoky fry sauce. Generous portion was enough to share. To top it all off, you get FREE soft serve ice cream !
