S/o to my server Angelica and the other food runners. Their service was spectacular. BUT..... i noticed the hosts will come back and checkout to pay. This host Alina, was rushing me out. What an amazing experience! We had a large party of 24 and honestly, I expected poor service based on the Google reviews. It was totally the opposite experience! Our servers Han and Daniel were so kind and informative! They really treated our whole party with amazing service! i was highly disappointed after dining here at this establishment. our group of 6 came here after a long hike starving and looking forward to a good meal. we called ahead and they told us that they can seat our group of 6 after 5-10 mins. when they finally sat us down, we were sat in a table that looked like it meant for 4 people and we were crammed. i could barely lift my arms just to eat. the meat was taking forever to cook and it was falling apart. we came around 9:30 but it wasnt busy and our table was piled with dirty plates and so were others around us but they continued to stack our table with more meat even though we had no room as it is. $300 and we could of ate somewhere else with better service and better quality meats. read more

I went to Gen KBBQ for the first time 2 days ago! The manager who helped served us, Daniel, was amazing! He recommended us a lot of dishes and gave us the best service ever! The food however was not up to par... The quality of the meat was not very good and the serving size of the side dishes was very small. I had stomach issues the following day and the next. As much as the inside looks very clean and unique with the dim lighting, it was very hard to see whether or not the meat was fully cooked. I've been to Gen in California before and they have good meats and this location was no exception. This spot looks relatively new and the interior had a clean modern vibe. We went with the premium dinner menu which had some great choices like waygu. However I was a little disappointed they didn't have the thin cut pork belly and rice paper wraps. I have to say our experience was okay. Not great, not bad but I was feeling overwhelmed. We were definitely greeted in a welcoming way and sat down pretty quickly. It featured the premium all you can eat selections and drinks on the reverse side. Our server talked so fast and while I was looking over this "menu" and I missed almost everything he said. On this menu there was no pricing for the all you can eat menu. There was pricing for à la cart items but nothing noting the cost of the all you can eat menu I kept looking it over to see what other options I could get. Pork, chicken, the standard options I could get at other KBBQ places but there wasn't any listed. I had to ask if they had pork belly and then was told of the options I had for that. I saw another table with options I would expect for a standard KBBQ but I was never presented that information. So that left a sour feeling for me. For two people for premium all you can eat and two drinks out tab came to about $135.00 Our server was so focused on only giving us this premium version & I feel like this is not the proper way to do business. I should be afforded to make the option of what I want and know everything they serve. I'm pretty sure he said something about appetizers that were included but never mentioned what those options were or provided a different menu that gave us those. The meat was alright. I've always heard mediocre things about Gen but had a good experience in Texas so was expecting similar here. All things considered, it's very solid except for the price which is a bit high for typical KBBQ enjoyers. There's a lot more items to order here which justifies a higher price point but it is steep. There's cheaper options relatively close but the prime location is hard to beat as well. Located in Southcenter Mall, there's ample parking and plenty of things to do before or after. Even if there's a wait, it's less painful because of the activities next door. I'm not a fan of their how their brisket and beef belly are cut and rolled hotdog style but their quality is solid. They do have pineapple for their Hawaiian Steak but it's also available alone, something we enjoyed. The sweetness definitely helps, sort of a pseudo-dessert. read more

I've been to one in CA a long time ago, and I remember enjoying the atmosphere and experience. I came here with my bf during lunch time, so it wasn't busy. We started with a few items. We cooked and at all, and waited for our next round. The place wasn't busy, but service was still very slow. The server didn't come around often, and even when we put in our meat orders for meat that should easily just come from the kitchen, it would still take a long time for it to come out. After each round, we'd wait for so long, with nothing to eat, for the next round to come out. I didn't eat as much as I could or wanted to; I got full quickly from waiting so long and taking long breaks between eating. Not sure if it's easy to tell which pictures are which since I'm updating this review, but food and service wise I didn't have a great experience here this time around, and my friends and I were unsure what was going on as well. Among the 7 of us, we agreed that much of the meats we ordered were still pretty good. However, the beef in particular came apart very easily as we cooked it on our grills. It came apart even more when I ate it, and I felt like the bits and pieces of the meat had a rough exterior texture, which made eating it pretty unpleasant despite the flavor profile still being solid. It was probably meat that's been left frozen for a little too long even though it looked really fresh when it was put out the table. One of my friends and I wanted to try both their rice sticks and their fish katsu, both coming out about half an hour after we asked for them. Both had different issues of their own, though: - The fish katsu came out very burnt the first time, so my friend and I didn't eat it. Fortunately our server noticed this after a little bit and asked for it to be remade. This took about half an hour more to make, and when we ate it, we noticed that it was still a little burnt, and texture was very off. - The rice sticks were harder to chew on than I thought. I'm not sure if that was what it was supposed to be like, but I couldn't finish eating it. For positives though, I love how my servers were extremely attentive in replacing our burnt grills and getting us water refills whenever we thought to ask for them. In short, there are many other places with better quality and service for kbbq. This was AYCE, but my family and I left this place still hungry. On a Sunday at 6:30pm, Gen seemed extremely short-staffed, I'm not sure if people called out or if management is being cheap and not scheduling more servers. But the staff that were present worked extremely hard and you can see them running every direction trying to serve more tables than they could handle. I really appreciated the staff and it was apparent that they were doing the best they could given the circumstances. To start, the menu is a QR code with tiny font and hard to read. When asked for a physical menu, it was huge (the size of my entire upper body) and quite hefty and cumbersome to hold in the small booth that they put 5 of us in. Maybe a simple laminated menu would be more practical. Food: - Pork belly, sirloin, and calamari steak were solid! - Banchan was hard to get refilled and not good - Brisket was sliced too thin and repeatedly got stuck to the grill - Marinated sliced meats weren't really 'sliced' and almost had minced texture making it look like 'slop.' Most of the meat item were marinated, wish they had more non-marinated options. - Most of the appetizers were just various fried items, so they took long to come out. - They ran out of rice and didn't have any until halfway through our meal and it was mushy when we got it. Due to the staff shortage, it took a while for food to come out and many of the dishes didn't come out at all. We were so tired of being stuck in a noisy restaurant cramped in a small booth without our food coming out or being able to locate a server. After 2 hours, it was better to leave and cut our losses. Pro: very good grill ventilation, didn't come out smelling like kbbq smoke or feeling oily. Overall, I wouldn't come back unless their meat quality improves and management gives the servers a better working environment. It was so hectic that there wasn't anyone to bus tables. I've been to a Gen KBBQ in Waikiki and was impressed with that experience so we gave this location a try. This place is on the north side of the Southcenter mall. There are several other restaurants along this side with a large but busy parking lot. Came here for lunch and appreciate the affordable $25 AYCE experience. Our server, David, was super friendly and helpful navigating us through the lunch menu. We opted for the soy honey beef belly, spicy pork bulgogi, Korean fried chicken, and cheese corn for our first round. The beef belly was tender and had just the right amount of flavor. It was like having an enhanced brisket experience for KBBQ. The spicy pork bulgogi was seasoned perfectly and not overly spicy. We got a half order of the Korean fried chicken, was was the right portion for two people. The sauce came on the side so your boneless chicken maintained its crispiness. And the cheese corn is always a go to for any KBBQ experience. We also got sides of the salad (which comes with an Asian dressing) to accompany the meats perfectly. Don't forget to get some ssamjang, raw garlic, and jalapeños. We ended up getting two more rounds of these meats and had to call it quits because we were so full. Went to dinner with my friends last night, it was my first time ever hearing about this restaurant. The atmosphere was not really vibing with me. The first couple of things I noticed was that it is sorta Smokey and I was worried that the scent would linger on my clothes. Thankfully that wasn't the case, as the proximity of the adjoining tables are very close. I approached the table to greet my friend, I was immediately hit in the face with smoke and the aroma of food be grill at the adjacent table. I insisted that we move a table over. The other observation I had was that the floors have a slick greasy feel to them. I'm sure it is due to the constant grilling of the foods being cooked at the tables. The area that we were seat was very close to the prep area, so it was a lot of commotion and noise, dishes, buzzer going off constantly. This was not conducive to a relaxing fun experience for me personally. Also, I have to point out that the table surfaces are not large enough to accommodate the dishes with the meats that we ordered to be cooked on maybe the table was not cleared fast enough. The delivery of said plates are delivered in a matter of fact fashion with no particular interest in how things are going with your experience. I found the experience of trying to understand the menu and pricing a bit of a challenge, I'll accept the (L) on that as I'm a novice at this particular restaurant. I noticed that I had to ask for refills on water and napkins. Napkins came, but the water didn't. Had to ask for refills on the sides as well. Walking in the place was shiny and neon with lots of open tables and clean grills. My friends had already arrived and one had ordered a drink. Quite promising. There were no menus so I requested one and was directed to a QR code that the server had to bring to us. We were there on a Saturday and was told that the AYCE was the weekend price. We decided that the AYCE was too much for 3 older women and told the server that we would like to order A La Cart. We were NOT told that they did not do A La Cart and proceeded ask us what we wanted. So we ordered 3 meats and japchae and KFC. The food was fair to bad and did not even finish meat that was brought. Banchan was not worth eating. We asked for the check and then was told they only do the one AYCE price and do not offer a la cart. Had that been mention WHEN WE CLEARLY ASKED, we may have left or accepted price gotten more food brought to us. I do not recommend Gen. There are so many KBBQ in the area. As for the food, we loved our experience and loved the the soy honey beef belly(thinly sliced), we also liked the kalbi marinade too but even with just the soy beef we would be set because that one was definitely delish! So Korean barbecue is something of interest my wife and I share, so naturally we wanted to try someplace we hadn't to celebrate our second wedding anniversary this weekend. We were already at the mall and decided to give Gen a try. The ambience was OK. A little fast-paced and modern. The music was pretty loud, but almost deafening levels in the bathrooms. It was like a private dance club in there lol. We had to wait a minute and was told by our server that she would be the only one handling our section on a very busy Saturday afternoon. She really worked her hind end off in spite of that and we did not feel unattended. While waiting though, a gentleman whom I assumed to be the manager who was walking around in a suit, no tie, for some reason, was walking around with a menu and or guest check book in the front of his pants? We were kind of confused as we watched him put it in there while standing at the cash register. Not necessarily a bad thing just... what? lol I will agree with other reviewers here that the upsell of the premium menu seem to be the bulk of the interaction between ourselves and the server. We declined this because most of what we are there for can be accessed by their basic all you can eat menu, such as Bulgogi beef, pork belly and other KBBQ Staples. The Banchan was pretty underwhelming. The daikon was great. The kimchi was ok. The pickle cucumbers were ok. However, that was pretty much it aside from what seemed to be a couple of pieces of marinated onion? No fish cakes, no gamja jorim... The potato salad was also interesting. It had a very mealie texture, similar to cream of wheat and no other vegetables or anything other than raw corn. We ordered cocktails as well. My wife had their Yuzu sparkling lemonade, and I got an old-fashioned. My drink, however basic it may be was terrible. Barely any bitters, weak pour, no cherries and a freeze dried piece of orange as a garnish. I did alert our server to this. They were willing to bring me another drink however, when it came time to pay, we had to ask again to have the original drink removed from our tab. However, that could've just been oversight on their part because of how busy it was, but in the end, it was rectified. Given that, I would stay away from any classic or basic cocktails and go for their fruity fun ones. Those seem to be pretty flavorful and have the sort of alcohol content you would expect. I ended up getting a peach soju pouch which tasted great and had a cool light up ice cube in it that made it silly. I don't necessarily think that we will go here again as I think the large scale aspect is what takes away from the classic "hole in the wall" homey feeling KBBQ experience. On the AYCE list, there's so many option for the price including all the appetizers and desserts. There is a premium and regular menu. Finally someone comes up - no appologies for waiting so long (for context we were at the counter for what seemed like 10 mins but Ill say 5 mins bc I don't have concept of time but just know it was too long for a restaurant interaction) I also want to add it was not busy at all they were 4 other tables there. Once we were finally seated then it took forever to get our order placed. One of the workers "started" our grill but our food wasn't cooking so we asked someone else to check and guess what it was off. Overall I probably won't be returning for a while. We like Korean BBQ! The food here is great. However Im going to rate this 2.5 stars. The service here is terrible. We've actually been here a handful of times and each time it sucked. Im not basing it off one time but its a span of several. It always takes forever for someone to come by to take our order or even acknowledge us. Or we just end up waiting and needing to flag someone down just to get more food order in. The price here is a bit more on the pricier side and if you want premium or anything else add on, it only goes up. We have been to better places, better service and better price. My friend and I went during dinner time for the AYCEThere are a variety of options to select from, such as beef, pork, chicken, vegetables and even seafood! They also have specialty meat options, as well as specialty soju drinks When comparing this particular spot to the one's back home, I prefer the Gen back home on the islands. This location serves the meats still frozen everytime I have dined here and the space is not that large in relevance to the amount of people that come to eat. After the Honey Soy Beef Belly, our favorite item was the Hotteok - a Korean sweet pancake with powdered sugar. My Korean friend also ordered the Soondooboo Soup, which was not spicy at all according to him. (I also think it's funny how Sundubu is spelled because I've never seen it spelled like that.) We also tried the japchae, but the noodles were more chewy and hard than what you'd expect - we did not finish it. If you're looking for authentic KBBQ, I'd try restaurants in Federal Way or Lynnwood because GEN was not it. We got here and it was a bit of a wait. They told us to scan a QR code and wait in the mall. About 30 minutes later they seated us. It was a bit until the server came by and we could see that they were a bit short staffed. Once he took our order he brought us some side dishes and told us they were out of rice and he will bring it to us later. I've heard mixed reviews about Gen and decided to First time dine in, the wait time was a bit long An only about 3-5 tables but didn't get notice till about 5 minutes of standing there. (This was a weekend) Once sat, I was provided with a premium menu and though it seemed nice there wasn't much items to be excited about, only 5 items on it for it to be 20$ more per person didn't seem much to upgrade for. Original dinner price is 34.99 per person and has about 45 items for all you can eat. Once I turned down the premium it seemed like the server didn't care much to watch over our table as we kept missing items having to repeatedly ask for them but didn't receive half. The meats are okay, sides are a bit dry and soups are too sweet. The dessert was probably the only thing I enjoyed. My family and I tried Gen for the first time while we were on vacation in Vegas a couple years back. When we heard that a location was opening in Seattle, we were ecstatic. We came in on a Saturday afternoon for lunch; the hype has definitely died down, the restaurant wasn't too packed and we were seated immediately. The restaurant is definitely catered towards a younger crowd, with lots of loud music and a huge push towards buying their fun drinks. The highlight of our lunch was definitely our server - I unfortunately forgot his name but he was kind, attentive, and checked in on us/replaced our grill often! He was great, and honestly the only reason why this review isn't a 1/5. Unfortunately, the food and quality of the meat was not good at all. The meat tasted frozen, and texture wise some items such as the brisket felt incredibly grainy. Even the corn cheese itself was like 85% corn and 15% cheese, can't really do much of a cheese pull with that. Nothing really stood out in terms of the food, and everything was either frozen or dry. Overall, I was very disappointed in the meal and how we were paying about $35 for quality that is certainly nowhere near that. I don't think we'll be coming back to Gen, for the price of $35 per person, there are absolutely other places in Seattle with better quality food. read more

It took two visits before I decided to post this review. Both time i went with one of my kiddos for the lunch special that's valid for Monday to Thursday only. The place feels like a night club, kind of cool, but honestly also slightly odd, but it feels modern. The meat quality is decent for Portland standard, not great, but not bad. The first time we were there, they were out of steak, and out of pork belly (whatttt?!?). Our server came back after 20 min and said she was able to find the garlic version of the pork belly, so we did get some at the end. What really stands out is the number of cooked food available, Korean fried chicken, cheese tonkatsu, fried prawns, chapche... The list goes on. The pricing for Monday - Thursday is also super solid, given I'm a bit too old to over indulge these days, and the rest of my family can't really much to start with. I recently visited Gen Korean BBQ at their Tukwila location in Southcenter Mall for the second time. My first experience with Gen was years ago in California. I've got to say, the service here has definitely improved since their soft opening. Our server (I think his name was Jeff or John?) was super attentive and kept checking in on us, which was nice. If you're coming for lunch, keep in mind that the lunch pricing is only available Monday through Thursday. The meat quality is standard for a chain--nothing amazing, but still decent for the price. Last time I was here, their samjang sauce was a bit off, but it seemed better this time. For apps, I'd recommend the calamari over the Korean chicken bites--the chicken bites are more like nuggets than actual crispy chicken. The tofu soup is okay, but don't expect it to be like the super hearty, fully loaded kind you'd get at a dedicated soondubu spot. They don't have rice paper here, but they offer radish paper/slices instead. I like to finish my meal with a Korean hotteok order. Great place for korean bbq. The price is not bad if you choose the regular option for meats. You can upgrade to the premium for $20 extra per person. I think the premium option is 50/50 on whether it's worth it or not. They do have more options for the premium option however there is a limit on certain meat choices.( example : only can order 2 plates per person of the ribeye ). Also for the premium option the quality of the meat sometimes when we go it's great but other times for the price the for the quality does not match. They have lots of other side dishes( japchae , spicy rice cakes , wings, and more ) you can order that's included in the korean bbq experience. They always seem to be out of the rice paper wraps though. They have a different option of radish wraps that are great to eat with the meat. Lots of meat options to choose from different cuts/types of beef ,chicken or pork plus even seafood (shrimp ). When they're busy service can be super slow so ordering more food can be finnicky as they also have a limit on how many meats you can order per everytime. Overall though it's a great place. read more
