I was traveling up the Turquoise Trail, and about 1/2 mile outside of Madrid, my SUV quit running. I had been having electrical issues for about 2 miles (instrument panel was lit up like a Christmas tree). I was lucky to coast into a parking lot. Towed to Santa Fe (driver was super) and was told that I needed a new alternator within 5 minutes. I was given an estimate, which I thought was very fair, and was promised a repair by noon the next day. I offered to take Uber, but Charlie insisted that he drive me to the Hilton Santa Fe, which was a 20 minute ride! The next morning I received a call telling me that someone was on his way to get me! I have had my vehicles serviced and maintained by B&G automotive "Fred Baca" owner for 20 years and I have been completely grateful and happy that my vehicles have been fixed professionally and perfectly!! I totally recommend them. The prices are more that fair as I have checked around to see the prices at other places that charge much more for the same work. I have been a loyal customer for many many years and I DO NOT pester them when they are trying to do the work as I have seen other customers do. Let them do their work!! My car broke down in Santa Fe on a move from Florida to Oregon. B & G is the only AAA recommended auto repair shop in town. I had my car towed here for repair. They did take care of me overnight and got me back on the road the next day. As I was driving through California, my car started having the same problem as when I was in New Mexico. I pushed through to Oregon and drove it straight to the dealership in town for further repair. It turns out that the part that B&G installed was defective, and had to be replaced again. Here's where the problem began. I contacted B&G, and spoke with the owner who told me that if I mailed them the bad part, he would refund the cost of the part as well as the labor charge. I followed his instructions, luckily with a tracking number from USPS for delivery of the part. At first, they denied having received the part. Once I provided them with the tracking info, they said that it finally arrived. Then I was told that the refund could not be processed until the manufacturer of the part confirmed that it was defective. After repeated phone calls, confirmation was received. Then I was told that they needed to process the refund, and I would receive my check in two weeks. After that time had passed, I began calling again to find out where my check was. At this time, they either didn't answer when I called, or picked up and hung up the phone without answering. At this time, I reached out to AAA to advocate for me. They contacted the garage owner, who told them that he had mailed a check that had never been cashed. After two weeks of dealing with AAA, he finally mailed them a check which was then forwarded to me. When the check arrived, it was for the cost of the part only, not the labor - which I was told by the owner would also be refunded. In total, this experience took nearly three months. Over all - a terribly unsatisfactory experience. I do not recommend this garage, as they do not stand by their work. read more

Made an appointment with this shop to drop off a vehicle to have its coolant system checked due to engine overheating. Dropped the car off Thursday afternoon for the work to be done Friday. Called Friday afternoon for an update and was given the run around with "it's on the rack now". No update Friday or Saturday. I initiated all contact. No actual communication from the shop. On Monday I was told "I idled it awhile. It doesn't overheat at all." On Tuesday I was told I'd "missed my appointment" and the owner didn't even know my car was on their lot. I retrieved my car to take it to another shop. I do not recommend this shop. read more

I have to say this is the best service I have ever received from a repair shop! Fred is the nicest and most upfront person you will ever meet! We had a coolant leak and our valves/hose basically exploded on us. B&G was able to get us back on the road within 3 hours and gave us a better price than we would've gotten anywhere! If you even think you may have vehicle troubles you should stop to let Fred and the B&G crew take care of you before the inevitable happens! Would gladly recommend them to anyone. read more

If I could give NO stars I totally would! These are supposed to be AAA quality towing service and I've waited three days for a battery that they guaranteed they come and put in and then the guy came he didn't have a battery, he said he couldn't test the alternator or the starter even after the owner Miguel assured me and guaranteed me the day before that they would, and he blamed it all on the coronavirus. That is low! AAA even called him and he did have a battery. But he wouldn't put it in today! He could send a guy out but he wouldn't allow him to put in the battery?Their driver had said three days earlier that AAA was not allowing them to put in batteries because of the coronavirus. Which when I called AAA, was absolute bull! I don't know what kind of racket They are running but it is not AAA quality assistance and if you don't have to use them do not at any cost use them! read more

I had an absolutely wonderful experience with B&G. After getting an alternator replaced by Pep boys and then promptly breaking down on the side of the highway not 15 minutes after leaving the facility, I contacted B&G, hoping for a more knowledgeable assessment of my vehicle. I was visiting for the weekend, and they knew I was from out of town, and still gave me a completely honest and fair opinion. Knowing I was trying to get out of town, they set to work on an entire engine replacement as quickly as possible and got me out of there in just a day and a half. Fred set two technicians to work on my car and cleared their schedule to speed up the process. Edward was kind enough to give me and my two friends a ride to and from our hotel, even though it was about 15 minutes from their shop. I left B&G and drove the 8 hours home, completely safe and problem free. I'm sorry that I don't live closer so that I can use this place again. I would recommend to anyone who happens to run into car trouble in Santa Fe. Thanks B&G! read more

If you want the simplest of jobs to get screwed up, by all means, bring your car or trailer here. If you want it done right the first time, look somewhere else. I have attached a picture of the bearing job they did on my trailer. They took off good parts and left me with this, knowing that I had a 2000 mile trip. AAA recommendation...what a joke! These guys are my heroes!! We broke down, on the freeway in Santa Fe, on the second day into our vacation. It was the Saturday before July 4th. Bad time to break down. We were driving a Ford Excursion and towing a 26ft travel trailer. It took us over 2 hours to find a tow truck that would tow our trailer, as well as our vehicle. Mike saved us! He towed us to this repair shop. Just when we were convinced we would have to wait, until the Wednesday after the long 4th of July weekend, to get our vehicle repaired, Fred (owner) came into his shop early Sunday morning, on his day off, and in the middle of his long holiday weekend. He got our vehicle diagnosed & repaired, and had us back on the road before noon!! And, he did all this at a very reasonable price (some places would have gouged us, knowing our situation). All together, we only lost around 24 hours travel time, when it could have been several days! It is so comforting to know there are still businesses that put "Customer Service" at the top of their priorities. Mike & Fred are the kind of people you want in your corner when things go wrong!! I would highly recommend these guys & this business! I would even feel comfortable sending my mother to them. I know she would be in good hands. read more

Before taking my car in, I wanted to make sure they felt comfortable working on my make of car. They assured me they work on all makes and models. My car had an oil leak and so I decided to take it to B & G. This was a big mistake and the beginning of a very terrible experience overall. They called to tell me where the leak was coming from and what needed to be done to replace it. Chris said they could fix it no problem. The repairs were finished within three days. I picked the car up, paid the shop, and drove to work. I noticed immediately that the car (manual transmission) was not shifting smoothly, and sticking very badly in first, second and third gears. There was also a noise that sounded like squeaking rubber every time I shifted. I immediately called the shop and Chris called me back. I explained the issue to him, and was met with rude and defensive remarks that, "There shouldn't be a problem shifting 'cause' we didn't touch your transmission." I scheduled to take the car back since Fred kindly agreed to take a look at it. I will say that Fred and his partner at the shop were friendly. Unfortunately, the ordeal continued. Fred apparently took a look at the car and I was again told that the transmission was shifting fine, and that no one could hear the squeaky noise when shifting. I picked up the car which had just been driven and the issue seemed to have dissipated, until I drove it home from work that night. In Fred's defense, the shifting issue seemed to go away when the car was warm and had been driven at higher speeds but the problem was still present. In the meantime, I noticed the car was beginning to leak again. A week or so went by and I noticed a grinding noise when the car was put into reverse so I called the shop again asking if they would please have a look for the second time. Again, and after they kept my car for almost a week, I was told that nothing was wrong. I was not told anything about the oil leak that they said they would also assess. Naturally fed up with being made to feel like I was crazy because I was apparently the only one that was recognizing a problem, I took my car elsewhere. I HAD to take my car elsewhere because after having spent $600 plus dollars, the oil leak was not fixed by B & G and my shifting problem was only getting worse- the transmission sometimes not even going into 5th gear at all. I paid them to not fix a problem and to cause and deny another. On top of it all, the new repair shop needed a proper invoice of the work B & G had done because the original invoice didn't list parts or part numbers. So I stopped in with my partner to pick it up. We were both met by possibly the worst customer service from Chris, that I think I have ever experienced. He was incredibly rude, bothered, and obviously put out because we where there. We stood in the front office for at least 15 minutes waiting for them to try to remember what parts they had used and find part numbers. You could tell that Fred's partner was obviously very embarrassed. I left with my invoice, and hoped to never return to B & G, kicking myself along the way for having chosen such a sub-par establishment, and for having thrown $600 down the drain. Fast Foreign Auto Service fixed the oil leak properly and fixed the shifting issue. I wasn't indeed crazy and they diagnosed the problem shifting due to a LOOSE REAR TRANSMISSION MOUNT. If that isn't a problem B & G, I don't know what is. Go here if you want to throw your money to the wind and if you want to be treated like dirt by Chris. Fred and his business partner are nice guys who should consider getting someone else to man the front office, who has manners and who might actually treat paying customers like they are welcome there. read more

The purchase of a used 350 motor for $2,037.00 from Fred was and still is to this day the biggest mistake ever. I found the motor harness stuffed with bare wires between the body and motor mounts of the vehicle. The transmission detent cable was not adjusted correctly, and upon driving away it broke. Instead of replacing the cable they rigged it with a screw clamp which never shifts the transmission into overdrive on the freeway which resulted in a fried up transmission. Also the re-built rochester carb for $124.00, the choke levers were bent in the direction of wide open throttle, going out of control at high speed, must turn off ignition before slamming into someone on the road. DO NOT HAVE THESE GUYS REPLACE ANY MOTORS FOR WHICH THEY DO NOT HAVE THE EXPERIENCE. Also they took over two months to return the truck back to me, and when it did the engine smoked out cars behind me a Mcdonalds only to drive straight to their shop for the truck took another month to complete. A TOTAL DISASTER, which the bad wiring job fried my blinkers as well. Now I am having problems selling the vehicle since they never did there job correctly. Fred costed me quality green dollars for a crappy running 350 motor which now has to be removed. read more
