Horrible Experience, I brought my Highlander in for rotor and brake job all the way around. I wanted to purchase my on parts but they would not warranty them and assured me that their parts would be high quality parts. Two weeks after the work the rotors turned powdery bright orange. Which you could see through my jet black 2000 dollar TSW wheels. They said oh that's not important as long as they function. It was obvious that I had updated the look and performance of this older Highlander. What the heck? .....absolute nuts. They refused to fix it. So I shelled out the money for all new parts and Peerless did the job. Personally, I feel like, if I was man this would never of happened. Every time I drive by I flip them off. hehehe read more

Can't convince me to go back. I was told my windshield wiper motor was out in the initial diagnostic. Had me put money down to order it. When I brought it back for a new motor, they called AFTER repairs were done to say it wasn't the motor but the wiring. I just didn't appreciate having to pay 4 hours of labor for incompetence. $607 for a mistake is too much. They did apologize, and I appreciate that, but still had to pay $600 for wire and tape..At the least an hour of labor could have been knocked off. 4 hours?! $607?! Manager couldn't admit their was a misdiagnosis. Feeling swindled. read more

We had just started a cross-country road trip when the dreaded 'check engine' light came on. We showed up at their door unannounced thirty minutes before they opened in order to see if they would be able to take care of us in time to continue our trip. They were very friendly and extremely accommodating. They diagnosed the problem, transported a part from Albuquerque, replaced the O2 sensor and some tubing, and finished the repair before the end of the day. Beware...save your hard earned money. They had worked on my vintage Bronco since it was purchased in 1992 (drove it before I bought it), and have repaired it exclusively since. Last year what appeared to be driveshaft problems (history of it) while on the interstate. Had it towed in. Two months later they said it was ready. But they hadn't done anything on the powertrain. They said it was actually the tires, charging $490 for the advice. But the noise persisted. Immediately got four new tires. Driving home in the dark what turned out to be the differential went out. Towed it home and emailed what were they going to do about it. They responded they had no excuse and they would fix it for free. Then the excuses started. 'The vehicle was too old', 'They don't work on pre 2000 cars anymore (even though I'm grandfathered in and were happy to take my money before)', 'The parts are hard to find', and then the kicker 'It really was the tires' (!!!!!!). After months gone by an email 'Haven't found the parts', still more months, 'Parts not found'. Finally my lawyer asked what the problem was and they wanted to sit down and discuss it (like discussing why the gardener hasn't mowed the lawn in a year). Then offered to pay for the tires (??). I said keep your money and tow it to another shop. That shop had ordered the parts the next day and two days after they arrived it was back on the road. Lesson learned...familiarity breeds contempt. Rather than work one minute for free, they stored the vehicle for one year... for free. Real Phi Beta Kappa! read more

I own a 6 year old Infinity G37 Convertible. Before moving to Santa Fe, I had always serviced it at the dealership from which I bought it. I took it to Alex Safety Lane, told the representative that my Infinity hadn't been serviced for more than a year, and asked for an oil change and 360 degree inspection. They called 2 hours later and recommended that I replace the cabin air filter. Nothing more. Frankly, had they recommended other items I would not have been surprised. So my 2006 Ford focus had a major 60,000 service today. William Bransford (Billy) was the mechanic who covered every thing I needed. It is so nice to have an honest mechanic who shows you the things you think you need but was not necessary. Huge auto bay, and a big team. I cannot recommend this center and Billy enough for their honest service and good pricing. The car drives so much nicer now. I am having problems with the electrical and the resolved my problems with this car, and I knew it was more than a simple job. This car's electrical has been problematic for years. Now I am driving safely, have our break lights back, don't have to use the auto shift over ride to get it out of park. (Something Ford here in Santa Fe quoted over $1000 to fix) I am returning next week to have the front breaks done as they are getting thin where he showed me. I really trust Billy and this center. Five stars and they don't even know! I've got a few cars and been annoyed that my Porsche I've got isn't as easy as some of the American cars to work on. Had a stripped oil drain plug and went to a couple of places to see if they could help me out to loosen it. No one would touch it without an appointment. Went over to safety lane, and a quarter to four, walked in, asked for help, Steve pulled me into a bay and loosened the bolt in seconds and had me back on my way home where I was able to change my oil in minutes. It's a neighborhood shop and it looked like they have lots of bays and business. Was it a stupid simple job? Yes. Do local businesses care if you're in a little pinch? Usually not. If I've got a job that I can't do myself they've just earned all my business, hands down and not a second thought. Thank you guys for taking the time. read more

These people are slick as their oil!! They used non-brand parts and claimed they were on the invoice. The only way I found this out, was because the Subaru Dealer showed me the parts that they replaced and he said they were "generic", which turned out to be more damaging to the car! They were okay at the beginning... but then they tried to charge me for an hours worth of labor plus parts ($90 ) to change one brake light bulb. They did call to let me know it was out, I said okay, but for something that simple ( open the trunk, move flap out of the way, twist and pull the old one out, twist & push the new one in, 3 -5 mins tops ) on a 1990's crappy Volvo sedan, I thought it was a nice gesture & good customer service & I would just pay $6 for the part.... but when I saw an extra $100 on the bill, I complained and all i got was attitude & a list of lame excuses to rationalize their expense, from, sending out people to get the part, having two mechanics install it, looking up schematics, testing & checking etc.. sorry all BS. and I cant trust them anymore. (they did eventually cut it down to $50 after complaining and catching them in a lie, still way over priced especially after spending $700 on another issue) read more

Yes my friend went here and she was a woman and she got taken. What a rip off, this guy claims to have changed her radiator fluid. I've never in my life seen black radiator fluid after being flushed. He charged her $175. and claimed the color of the fluid is normal ...radiator fluid that is dark a special kind..yeah right. As long as I can remember clean fluid is a bright green. So after showing me this she then goes to jiffy's and the guy there says her fluid is terrible and was really dirty. The kid at Jiffy's said it wasn't done right the procedure done at alex safy. Mom's car was making a funny noise, so they tried to get her to replace her perfectly functioning transmission with a high mileage junkyard replacement for thousands of dollars. Got a second opinion from Precision Transmission, who correctly diagnosed a bad wheel bearing, which they quickly replaced at a low cost, even though they're just a transmission shop. read more

ASL did a safety check, and reported that my coolant system should be flushed with hoses replaced. This was over $350.00 of a 750.00 bill. Two days after driving my truck to Taos County, I noticed fluid leaking under the engine. I first thought it was gasoline, since I was pumping gas. I was able to take my Ford to my local mechanic that Saturday, and he found a hose of my coolant system was old and broken. He replaced this and my antifreeze for $32.00. ASL should have found this hose needed replacement with the safety check as well as the servicing of my cooling system. I feel lucky my truck failed close to home. I could have been stranded on the highway. When I called ASL about this mistake, the customer service rep stated a number of times that my truck was old (1994) and that ASL can not find everything. I felt they were not taking responsibility for service work I relied on. read more

I've been in twice and will not return. The first time I was charged 300$+ to drill out a bolt on my exhaust down tube. That is not a 3 hour job. They also torqued down my head bolts without asking and charged me for it. I am lucky those did not break. The second time I had a bad noticeable rattle in my front suspension. They told me that yeah they heard it, but did not know what it was, that'll be $50 bucks... come back when it is louder... My control arm bolts were loose. They should have noticed it. I will not be returning as I gave them two chances and they let me down, but I might have gotten off easy. read more

We "limped" into Santa Fe on Sunday, Aug. 16, 2015 and made an appointment with this firm for Tuesday, Aug. 18. Another garage tried to correct our problem on Monday, Aug. 17 but was unable to diagnose or correct. The staff at Alex Safety Lane had all the proper equipment to diagnose, correct, and test drive our truck to complete repair. We continued on our vacation without further issues. Brought my vehicle there for basic maintenance work, to fix an oil leak and to change fluids. When I got the vehicle back, the transmission was leaking and it still had the oil leak. Alex Safety charged a considerable amount of money to replace the main seal and it kept leaking oil. After denying the vehicle was leaking any oil or transmission fluid at all, and after numerous arguments, they finally agreed to fix the problem. I had it at the shop four times and they still never corrected the leaks, they said they would have to send my vehicle to a transmission shop to fix that particular leak. I decided to bypass them and took the vehicle to a different mechanic. He discovered and corrected the problem right away. Alex Safety had put a 90 weight gear oil in the transmission, which would have caused considerable damage to the transmission if it had not been corrected, they also reversed the drain plugs on the transmission, another error that would have caused severe damage. To be certain, I also had this diagnosis confirmed by the vehicle manufacturer, who assured me that putting 90 weight gear oil into my transmission would have caused irreparable damage resulting in my having to spend $2,000 to buy a new transmission within five months. Their lack of attention to fundamental details of the vehicles they service plus their refusal to put things right after they screwed up the job in the first place has convinced me to not only not do business with them ever again, but to warn others who may consider taking their vehicle to this shop for repair. What's frightening is they were voted "Best of Santa Fe". I guess they're the best if you like sloppy, careless worksmanship done on your expensive vehicle. I will NEVER use them again and I will make sure to let others know that as well. read more

I went to Alex Safety Lane because I was new to Santa Fe having moved from Denver where I had a very honest and reliable mechanic. Not knowing where to turn to when my car broke down, someone recommended them to me based on 16 years of good service. However, over an 18 month period I not only had to drive all the way back to Denver to have work they did on my engine mounts redone TWICE, they also tried to convince me my clutch was shot when I just needed an oil change. They literally told me I had "maybe 3-4 days, a week TOPS, because it was unsafe to drive." But if I had them fix it "now and not wait", they would charge me less money. Because of the bad service I had experienced previously, I asked for my car back just in case, and had someone else look at it. They said the entire car was more than fine. I continue driving on the same clutch a FULL YEAR after they told me I was in dire need of a new one! DO NOT GO TO ALEX SAFETY LANE, THEY ARE DISHONEST! read more
