I just pulled out the invoice from B&G when they serviced my snow blower 2 years ago. I didn't realize how badly they ripped me off until now. $200 to service my $600 snow blower and replace the pull cord which broke last winter. Think about how mild the past few winters have been and about how many times I pulled the cord after they fixed it....maybe a dozen. I think that all of the negative reviews speak for themselves and the responses from B&G employees are pretty awful. Stay away....$200 for an oil change and a new pull cord is ridiculous. December 20' update l - the $200 pull cord dry-rotted and broke the first time that I pulled it this year. I've had pull cords outlast engines. I dropped off my lawn mower June 2. It did not start. I asked for an estimate before they did any work. They did not have any receipts to give me so I asked for a hand-written one. The women at the desk rolled her eyes - that should have been a red flag. She did write me a receipt. It says " B&G has (my name)'s lawn mower. Estimate first". I called today June 9 and the same woman says to me "We fixed it, it will be $101.00". I went round and round with her about the fact that I asked for an estimate first. First she denied promising me an estimate saying "We never do that." Then when I told her it is written on the receipt, she said there was no other option but to fix it. They could not give me an estimate, that was impossible, without repairing it and charging me for the repair. She then told me it cost $50 to take apart the mower. I asked her if that was the case, then why did she promise me an estimate? Or tell me on June 2 that it would cost $50 to pull apart the mower? She had no answer but was very willing to yell and scream at me. In summary: 1. They promised me, in writing, to give me an estimate before doing the repair, and did not provide that. 2. If their position is that the only option was to repair it, or that they have to charge $50 to pull apart the mower, they could have told me that on June 2 and written it on the receipt. I was never told any such thing. 3. Instead, they repaired it and are now demanding $101 in addition to screaming and yelling at me. This is called a Bait and Switch and is illegal in MA. They cannot per form an unwanted service and then demand payment. The truth is, if they had given me the estimate beforehand, I might have agreed, but this method is underhanded and illegal. Rather sad experience with my lawn mower repair at B&G. It has been six months since I dropped it off.. A week ago I made it clear that I needed it today, and they said the part was in, no problem. I called this morning, yes we are working on it, it'll be a couple of hours, we will call you. No call. I called at 4:30, no one picked up the phone. No lawn mower. I guess I will just have to buy a new one and sue them for the cost at small claims court. read more

Not going to use them again. I brought my mower in for a belt replacement and tune-up. It took close to 3 weeks to get it back. I was told my blades were on back order. I was able to get blades from Amazon in 2 days. I also had to leave numerous messages on their voicemail and did not get a return call. Very poor service. read more

Spent over 1300$ here on new equipment and decided this I would make it my go to service center. I dropped my lawnmower and snowblower off for annual service. 1st the woman working there never told me that it would be 2-3.5 weeks turnaround for routine service. So I called after a week and she informed me that it would be an additional few weeks. So I drove back over to get the mower to mow the lawn then returned it so that they could finish doing the service. A week in a half later they called me and said it was done. I PIcked up the mower and brought it home to mow the lawn; however, they had disengaged the drive train so it had no power. I then brought it back to them so that they could fix the issue that they created and they did so. I asked them to drop it off at my house on one of their delivery runs that was convenient, but I was informed that it would be a 30$ delivery charge. I asked if they would right the wrong and drop it off at no charge bc it was their mistake and I don't get home from work until well after 5 pm (which is when they close) so it would be very difficult for me to go and pick It up. At which time I was informed by the women that works in the office "sir nothing in this world is for free!" Soon after she hung up on me. I called back and asked to speak to the owner and he promptly said that the mower would be dropped off on their next trip past our home at no charge bc it was their error. I work in the service and sales industry and by no means is this about the $30. Its about a company doing what's right when they screw something up and not giving me a lecture about how the world works. Needless to say I will never go here again for service and I wish I hadn't spent a cent of my $ here on a new snowblower. Ty to the owner however for trying to fix the problem. read more

I would give it 0 stars if yelp would let me. Inept and rude service is the norm there. Had them service my Toro snow blower in November `15 for the `16 season. Finally used it 10 days ago for the first 4 inches to test it out. Bought a gallon of premium from the local Citgo. Worked great as usual. But, in the week between noticed the smell of gas in the garage. Found a leak around the carb. Had to use it this past weekend to run out the gas and clean some more snow. Ran fine. Took it in. They claimed bad gas. I counter claimed - it was a brand new gallon of gas. "We don't know where you get your gas, but there was bad gas in the carb so we rebuilt it." $77 or so, more dollars to ransom back my blower. I'll never go again. DON'T GO THERE. read more

Totally unprofessional, horrible experience! I brought in a pressure washer the middle to July. I didn't hear from them for nearly one month so I stopped in to check on it. They told me that it needed a carb, which they back ordered. They said their "tech" checked it out and the one on it was junk. Another month went by and I have still not heard from them so I stopped in again (it's now September 16th). They said that it was still back ordered and there was nothing they could do. I found it ridiculous that they could not find a carb for it so I told them that I wanted my pressure washer back. They charged me $45 and did nothing to it. When I got home I removed the carb, cleaned it out, changed the oil and plug and it runs fine. Seems the needle might have been stuck. When I removed the carb it was very obvious that no one ever removed it, try to clean it, etc. It seems like they just wanted to throw a part at it and not do any type of diagnosis. I went back there this morning to tell them that they were wrong and it did not need a carb, just a cleaning. The woman a young guy working behind the counter both started to challenge me telling me I didn't know what I was talking about and if I know so much why did I bring it in there in the first place....Really. RUDE and TOTALLY DISRESPECTFUL. read more

Have used B&G for three years now for everything from lawn mower blade sharpening to fixing/welding the deck on my riding mower. In one instance they also helped me to fulfill my warranty with Sears after my Craftsman weed trimmer was irreparable. B&G handled the entire communication with Sears and I went and picked up my brand new trimmer at Sears three days later, very helpful and so much better than dealing with Customer Service at Sears! I have always experienced good service and timely repair at a competitive cost. I recommend this place to anyone who asks as finding a dependable and fairly priced small engine place is difficult. read more

In three words, "find another place". I can't even recall for certain how many times I had to have them come back and pick up my snowblower to try again just to accomplish a simple preseason tuneup. I think it was ultimately five times. Everything from leaving screws out on cover plates to then stripping the holes and even returning it without the throttle knob and then jamming on an ill fitting replacement that fell off almost immediately. But the capper was when after the machine began running roughly after about one hour of use post "tuneup" (and we were in the throes of a string of storms, so I couldn't afford to be without the machine so I didn't dare call them) and I took off the carburetor cover and discovered that the body of the carburetor was into pieces!! They had failed to tighten down the nut and bolt on one side and that nut/bolt assembly was now gone; or perhaps they never even put it back on because I never found anything in my driveway after the snow melted and these were fairly sizable parts. Who do they have working on the equipment there, monkeys? This was last year ('14-'15 winter season) and I'm just now recovered enough from the shock of this experience to put it into words. What kind of repair shop gives you back your equipment in increasingly worse condition than when you gave it to them? It never once dawned on them to give me any sort of refund on the hundreds of dollars I wasted there and I think I was just so disgusted that I didn't even bother with that discussion. No real apology. No recognition of their bungling at all. I never set foot in their store so I can't say whether or not it may be a good place to buy anything, but I literally wouldn't ever consider having them service anything again, and if what you're buying requires any assembly or prep on their part, I'd think twice about that purchase. I just came across the reply from the business owner. I must say, I have to laugh. What is the alternative? Apologize for my frustration, rather than for anything that was done. Since the new owners took over, I have had great service on all my equipment. They have a reasonable turn around time and the prices are the similar to other shops around. They took my snow blower in and told me parts were back ordered due to everyone fixing snow blowers before the season. Seven days later parts are in and it was fixed under the estimate. How long does it take to do a carb kit on a small power washer? At B&G it takes FOREVER. They promised 10 days. It's been over a month. The guy on the phone gets testy when this is mentioned. Latest promise was last Thursday. I asked the guy whether he would be calling me or I should call him. He said he would call Thursday or Friday. He never called. So now I have to call AGAIN to be told, I'm sure, its not ready yet..... I should never have gone here. read more

My snowblower sucked up a newspaper in a plaster bag. I knew there was another storm coming in a few days so I went on the Internet and saw B & G Equipment repaired troybilt. I called and the next mooring it was picked up and I asked if they could repair it quickly since there is another storm coming Sunday. B&G is my go-to place to get all my power equipment fixed! They were very quick to get my two lawn mowers into the shop, diagnose and fix them! The prices were very reasonable.. I was not happy with this company. I was referred to them by Lowes to get a wheel replaced on my mower/tractor. The first issue was responsiveness. After I requested service I was told it would take 5 day for them to service my mower. After the 5 days my wife called and found out that service had never been scheduled & we would have to wait another 2 days. They required (so that they get paid by Lowes) that they tow away my mower (even though they only needed to replace a tire). Already annoyed by this process, they finally show up. I figured they would lift my mower and transport it onto their trailer. Instead they knocked at my door and when I answered they asked for the key. No greeting, no credentials, just "we need the key". They then fired up my mower which hadn't been started since the winter and immediately drove it with the broken wheel over my lawn onto their trailer. When I complained, I was told that this was the owner of the company and this would not create any damage to the mower or my lawn. I was given a lecture about how much experience this guy had. A quick reference to my mower's operation manual would contradict everything I had been told. While the wheel was repaired to my satisfaction, the arrogance, poor customer service and reckless treatment of my equipment that I experienced has convinced me to find another company next time.
