I'm addicted to this place!! There literally is everything you could want at this place. Everything from farm supply to wood stove parts, and even neat snacks things. Yeah, they are a bit higher priced but the convenience is nice. We pick up water softening salt while the kids choose a snack/candy. And every time we have gone we see something different. The place is clean, the parking and entrance and exit is easy to come and go. Employees seem to be nice. I have yet to have a bad experience there. read more

I like Runnings. They feel like a higher quality TSC. The staff in a couple of different departments were very friendly and helpful. Selection was wide. I ended up buying clothes, hardware, and poultry supplies. I liked the pants I got here so much that i ended up buying two more pairs online from their website to be sent to my house. I had never been to this location before - previously having only been to the one in Hinsdale NH which was not the best experience and left me with a bad impression. My experience at Putnam completely changed my opinion of this chain! read more

Wow! What a nifty store. A friend mentioned this store and we took the hour drive each way to check it out, well worth the drive. Totally filled a buggy with a bunch of goodies for each family member. Associates were all super nice, helpful with questions and I had a few with it being my first visit and also never hearing of the store I was curious of the history. Very well organized and it was a DELIGHT not to be smooshed while walking down aisles unlike most stores now a-days. My hubby was super pleased with the tool selection and I loved the housewares, candy and clothing choices. My only "complaint" would be that there are no offerings for small animals. Rabbits, guinea pig & rats. We were excited when hearing about the store and all the food options for animals but found nothing for caged ones. The chicken choices were nice although the options for treats or first side options were nile. Those should be on hand always and not just when the baby chicks are sold. Would not match Cabelas price of a tree stand. Said Cabelas was not local. They are 35 miles away. Runnings price was $220. Cabelas price was $190. Woman at register was rudest person I've met in years. I will never be going back to Runnings in Putnam CT again. read more

Good quality and name brands. Much better than the other farm store down the road. We go there now and then, and once they had the larger air fryers on sale, about 40% off. It's not too bad a store for merchandise. Unfortunately, they are no good when it comes to getting you your purchased merchandise sent to them under their FFL. They want to exceed what the government says you need and even ignore government id, which is valid, and the ATF says it is acceptable. read more

I found this store to be cold and uninteresting. It was a week after Christmas and almost nothing was on sale. The prices were high and, although there were several clerks in the store, no one offered to help us. There was a large selection of farm stuff but we left after browsing for just a few minutes. We felt unwelcome and much prefer Tractor Supply which is practically across the street. Although we own a farm we will not be back. read more

Price was good but customer service was severely lacking at the Connecticut store lawn mower dept. Manager of that dept was rude as hell. I should have just tried to price match at Lowes or Home Depot and got the better customer service. I won't make that mistake next time. read more

This store offers a variety of things and most of the prices are reasonable. The problem I have with Runnings is their inconsistency as far as stock availability. Many times I have made the trip there only to find the majority of what I needed (livestock products) unavailable. For me this is unacceptable, fortunately there is a tractor supply just up the road and I then can purchase from them and in that way it was not a wanted trip. read more

This was such a fun find! I go to the two in New Hampshire whenever I can and absolutely love them so when I spotted the store while driving through CT, well it was a no brainer that we had to stop and go in! It's set up very similarly to the stores in New Hampshire, although this one seemed to have a much larger clothing section. Great prices on everything we saw - I loved the area rug sale of 2 for $5, what a bargain. The food aisles are our favorite section and this Runnings didn't disappoint. Similar to NH but there seemed to be other regional items we didn't normally see. I went right for the Wiley Wallaby licorice though and was so happy at the selection! That stuff is addictive and we always have to stock up when in a Runnings because we can't find that sort of selection anywhere else. I'm sure the friendly cashier thought I was a bit crazy buying all of that licorice! Really great location with plenty of parking and has such a great selection for hunting, farming, regular household items and foods. Don't pass up a chance to go in and look around - you'll become a fan like me for sure. read more

I am not from the area, only in town for work. A client recommend Runnings "for a little bit of everything" and that is entirely accurate. Comparable to a cleaner, more organized Ocean State Job Lot. I went in for bird seed and found an entire aisle with more kinds of bird seed than I even knew existed, along with bird feeders of many varieties and related accessories. They also have (brand name as well as generic) cat and dog food and treats, dog apparel, dog toys, leashes and collars, a hunting and camping section, livestock feed, a small clothing section (adults and kiddos), an extensive garden/outdoor section and some old fashioned candy. There's too much to list! Leashed dogs are allowed in here, but please don't be *that* dog owner who brings in your aggressive or reactive pup, as I saw when I was there. The staff was mostly teenagers, but pleasant and helpful. The parking lot is HUGE and shopping carts were flying around everywhere - watch out for your vehicle! read more

They have a lot of stuff,,however I had bought a pair of boots and didn't have my receipt I'm normally a size 10 but this kind of boot ran smaller. So I just wanted to change the size a half size bigger. This punk tryed to change me more because when I bought them they were on sale. I said I don't want to return them I just need a bigger size. We raised our voices and my wife could see I was geting very angry and paided while I was arguing with this little punk. The manager was useless. But the store lost out because I typically spend between 1,000-2,000 a month there. So I shut down my account and have never stepped foot back in the store. The Service was horrible. And not trying to even help me on my problem they just wanted more money so for $150 pair of boots and it up costing me an extra $50. I would recommend not shopping here the staff are very uneducated on the merchandise they sell basically a bunch of kids working at McDonald's with no idea what's going on. And there prices are higher then say a tractor trailer supply or Home Depot but everythingis right there so I figured it would be a good idea. BUT NEVER AGAIN WILL THEY TAKE ME MONEY! read more

Be careful!! I drove 25 mi. for an advertised item, only to find out the item was not available. This store is not licensed to sell firearms and the best they could tell me was "check back with us" if we get a license we will have the items you are looking for. Regretfully I have already spent about $1500 minimum at this store since it has opened. Great Place if you are within 5 miles & in dire need of what they have. Otherwise I would just go to Walmart. Everything is super over priced, without getting into detail I just had the worst experience ever in a store. Runnings is AMAZING! I'd never heard of them before they came to Putnam. After visiting the store my only complaint is they've existed since 1947 and they only just got here? This is the place for one-stop shopping:Hand tools, power tools, hardware, storage solutions, plumbing, electrical, fishing, hunting, firearms, ammunition, farm equipment, trailer/camper/boat/atv gear, Stihl and Husqvarna product lines(among others), drygoods, grills, smokers, kayaks, automotive(they have Delco, Motorcraft, and Mopar filters-not generics)...and I haven't been through the entire store yet. (saw probably 3/4 - 2/3 and I ran out of time) A couple of the most impressive things about Runnings is the way departments are organized and the thoroughness of product lines. The aisles are laid out efficiently and products are grouped together in ways that make sense!! Unlike Lowes and other stores where things you'd expect to be together are spread five aisles apart. Those of us mourning the loss of Sears Hardware, Western Auto and most recently Benny's will feel a soothing sense of relief walking through the doors. You don't have to drive all the way to East Hartford to go to Cabelas any more. Sure, they don't have ALL the stuff Cabelas has, but they have the stuff you actually go there for. Let's be honest, how many of us are actually gonna buy a pontoon boat that cost more than a Mustang GT? The brand selection means that the local "authorized dealers" that have had a stranglehold on us aren't the only game in town anymore. The prices are lower, but not ridiculously so. The real savings is in convenience and selection. I can't count the times I've driven to Dubay's Tractor only to find them out of the exact item I went there for because they only stock 2 or 3 of said item at a time. Runnings has dozens! They have more complete product lines of the brands they carry than most others do. I was blown away by the Milwaukee and Dewalt selections. If either brand has any products that aren't at Runnings, you probably don't need them. I won't have to go looking for an brand name accessory only to have to settle for a generic store brand anymore. Enough typing. I'm going shopping! read more

Novelty of a store at first but that fades quickly with the lack of stock and poor customer service. Typical retailer who publishes sales items then has none in stock - or "sells out", offering no raincheck for seasonal items. Sales clerks are typical part-timers who offer no desire to go the extra mile. Virtually impossible to secure "loss leading" sale items and conflicting information and double-talk from multiple sales people when inquiries are made. Guess there's a reason why more of these stores don't exist. Do yourself a favor and shop other big-box stores (of which there are multiple), Tractor Supply or neighborhood hardware stores (like Aubuchon). There's no price advantage here for non-sale items and there's no lock on anything here you can't find elsewhere and you won't waste time and get typical retail runarounds. read more
