I called H Ironworks and spoke with Kevin about fabricating a custom steel cable tension brace to support a shade sail spanning about 35 feet. He and his father came out to my house, listened to what I was trying to accomplish, took measurements, and then went back to the shop to figure out the best way to build it. About a week later they returned for a test fit, and everything lined up perfectly. The following week they brought it back powder coated, and I couldn't have been happier. The workmanship was outstanding--beautiful finish, clean welds, and it looked like it had always belonged there. Just as important, Kevin and Hamlet are genuinely nice people. We had a rough idea of what we'd…read morewanted when we first met them, and the process of finalizing the finer details was really straightforward. The job was pretty swift, considering it was all custom. They measured carefully, and discussed potential issues with us and how we might like to work around them (mostly issues of our old house having walls not perfectly true, and of building codes having changed a lot since our former railing had been installed). All made sense and we came up with agreeable workarounds. They did initial fabrication on site, to make sure that everything fit perfectly, and then did the finishing work and painting off site. The final install was meticulously precise. The new railing is very sturdy. Photos show completed railing BEFORE we installed new finished flooring. It is bolted to the subfloor and to some reinforcement blocking that they installed under the subfloor for us, as well. Overall, we're quite happy with it. For something like this our goal had been to install a railing that will last for 50 years, and I think they met that goal for us.
