B. Doughnut opened in May 2018. They serve fresh-made Hawaiian-style malasadas and doughnuts along with hot and cold coffees and teas. What is a malasada? Mal assada means badly baked in Portuguese. It is a fried type of yeast doughnut, made with eggs, butter, and milk or evaporated milk. The traditional Portuguese malasadas are coated with granulated sugar and do not contain holes or any type of filling. The exterior is fried to a golden brown until it is almost crispy. The interior is soft and fluffy. It should have the taste of eggs and be slightly sweet. Hawaiian style malasadas differ from Portuguese malasadas by having fillings, holes, and/or various toppings.    My wife and I bought a Bacon Everything Bagel doughnut, a glazed doughnut, a Pandan malasada, and a C.T.C. latte. The Bacon Everything Bagel doughnut was made with a bread dough that was coated on one side with seeds and seasoning. It was filled with whipped cream cheese that had a salty bacon flavor. There were 2 problems with this doughnut. The filling was a little too salty and the dough was like plain bread. It had no sweetness and no butter flavor. It tasted like a roll that was fluffy and somewhat moist. The seeds and seasoning coating tasted fine.    The glazed doughnut had the same plain bread dough as above with a vanilla glaze on one side. The glaze was moderately sweet with a light vanilla flavor. The doughnut had the texture and taste of a dinner roll. It was moist and fluffy. More sugar, some vanilla, and less flour was needed to make it taste like a doughnut instead of bread. The glaze was good-tasting though.    The Pandan malasada had a pandan custard filling and was coated with granulated sugar. Pandan is a tropical plant prized for its blade-like green leaves. The leaves can be made into paste or extract for use in food and medicines. The flavor is described as grassy with a hint of coconut. The malasada filling was moderately sweet with a light coconut and sweet rice flavor. It was light green in color with no grassy flavor. The dough was the same plain white bread type as all the other doughnuts. Malasada dough is not the same as regular doughnuts. It should have more eggs. Their version of malasadas needs improvement. They should add more eggs and sugar. Decrease the flour a little. Substitute half of the milk in their recipe for half and half. The doughnut will be creamier, richer, and tastier. Overall, this doughnut was good tasting only because of the pandan filling and sugar coating.    C.T.C. latte stands for Cinnamon Toast Coffee latte. It was a latte with cinnamon syrup and topped with cinnamon sugar. The barista made some latte art in it which was great and we appreciated it. The latte had good milk foam and tasted fine. The coffee flavor wasn't strong. They sell 3 types of coffee from Rise Up Coffee, a small-batch coffee roaster and retailer headquartered in Easton, MD. The names of the coffees were Organic Maryland, Organic Espresso, and Organic Decaf.    The dining area and restrooms were very clean. It was bright, colorful, and airy in the dining area. It had 4 tables, a side table, 13 chairs, and 2 benches. No outside seating. The service was cordial, attentive, and relatively quick. The atmosphere of the shop was relaxed, the coatings and fillings for the doughnuts were good, but the doughnut doughs were lacking in flavor. The overall flavor of their doughnuts were good as long as you pick the ones with flavorful fillings or coatings. I rate their doughnuts at a little over 3 stars, but the service and ambiance push my rating to 4 stars. This was our first visit. Doughnuts are made daily. Maybe we visited on a day when a mistake was made with the dough. I am giving them the benefit of the doubt. We may give them another visit. read more

We visited this cute little place after an early morning kayak trip. The staff were friendly and very helpful as it was our first time there. There were plenty of options even though it was a late Saturday morning. We ordered a dozen bagel and my absolute favorite was the bacon everything bagel donut (I'm definitely more of a savory person than a sweet) and it was heaven! I loved every bite. Most of the doughnuts are sweet malasava-style (a Hawaiian/Portuguese-style sweet donut with a rich dough reminiscent of brioche), but they also have some savory doughnuts. Savory doughnuts, you say? Yes, and they're delicious cross between a salty bagel and a doughnut. They're covered in everything seasoning and stuffed with cream cheese. They have chives, bacon, or lox. I tried the lox and it was great. Soft and pillowy like a doughnut, but salty and herbaceous Of the sweet doughnuts, every flavor is amazing and I'd happily get any of them again, though my favorites were the Cookie Butter, Pandan, Ube, Vanilla Cream, and the simple Cinnamon Sugar (guilty, I got a dozen to sample as many flavors as possible). Look, they're all great, and I can't recommend them enough. Some of their sweet doughnuts are vegan, for what it's worth (the ones I tried were solid). They have a variety of coffees, fancy and regular alike, plus some smoothie bowls. The doughnuts are on the pricier side, but worth it! The inside is clean and the staff is friendly and fast. I've never been soooo anxious to give my review and experience about an establishment in a long time... so here it goes, when Roshelle met B. Doughnut. I've passed this place a few times while traveling up and down Rt 301 and finally was able to stop in as it also just so happened to be my daughters birthday AND she needed sweets! This is such a quaint little establishment and I am really excited to see something here in the Waldorf/LaPlata area other than the typical chain doughnut and coffee spots. I was able to make it here an hour before they closed and had my hopes set on walking in and seeing an array of doughnuts and malasadas to choose from, but I got here too lateeeee! My heart! They were only left with 2 milk chocolate glazed, 1 glazed, 1 Homer (strawberry glazed), and 4 lemon glazed doughnuts. Needless to say, I scooped up ALL leaving behind the 4 lemon glazed for whomever made it in before their 3pm closing time. The little box that our 4 doughnuts were placed in is just too cute and really study! Price wise, for our 4 doughnuts, the total was around $10.50 I believe. Just a tad expensive, in my opinion, but I have no problem paying for quality. Once home, I seriously left the box on our counter a good 3 hours and just knew there was a possibility that I was going to come back to rocks instead of doughnuts, but to my surprise the little gems were just as SOFT as when we picked them up!! Yassss! I commenced to set up our daughters "birthday cake" and I can honestly report that she ate 2 whole doughnuts!! Literally, they are like the prefect shape and the glaze is just the right amount of sweet with an uber soft and fluffy inside! I should have listened to my old review. While the people are still super cool, the doughnuts are still not good and maybe even worst. Nothing really tasted the same as the first time I ever been to a B. Doughnut when they first started in Union Market. The flavor tasted like an old brioche bun cooked in oil. My brown bag and my box of donuts had oil stains going through them. There were some cool additions to choices but some of the other items they offer like the drinks and smoothie bowls look like a desperate attempt to generate additional revenue. These "bagel donuts" are quite unique. Cross between bagel and donut. Puffy texture like a donut but can be savory. Some savory some sweet depending on flavor. I've lived all over the country and this is the first time I came across them. I learned about them when they were at a random coffee shop at Tysons Corner which closed down. Now I do not know why they are exclusively located in such a random small town in Maryland?! They should definitely open more!! I always like the classic everything bagel and I also decided to order OG açaí this time. Both great!! Grosses me out that when I get home I see how greasy the paper bag is. Kind of don't want to think about that while eating... I was lucky to have stopped by Sunday around noon while I was driving back to Fairfax VA from Colonial Beach VA. No line. Quick ordering. I tried calling ahead with fears that I won't get my flavor pick and that they will sell out. No one answered all morning and that caused anxiety. But I was fine. I came here another time a long time ago and was ok too getting what I wanted. I rarely find myself down in that area and am constantly finding an excuse for a trip. I'm so glad there's a cafe like this in Waldorf! It's my go-to. They got unique doughnut and great lattes -- what's not to love? If you've never been, definitely try the ube and pandan malasadas (aka a Portuguese doughnut). Other amazing flavors: the cookies and cream, maple bacon, gingerbread and cookie butter). I've also tried the savory malasadas (like the ones with chives, bacon and smoked salmon) but I found they're a little salty for me, probably because of the Everything bagel seasoning. As for the drinks, the Vietnamese iced coffee and latte are great -- strong and not too sweet, just how I like it. Service and Atmosphere: Both are excellent! If you ever walked into my house, you'd see that I'm a modern/contemporary type of guy, and that's exactly the vibe that B. Doughnut gives off. It's clean, bright, and chic. Plenty of seating inside. It's a great place to go if you need somewhere to relax or get some work done. As for the customer service, I was helped by a very friendly young man. He was very personable and knew many customers on a first name basis. If you want, you can call in your order in advance so it's ready when you arrive. Food and Drink: I was very satisfied. They have sweet, savory, and vegan donut options that range from about $2.50-$4.00 each. They also have salads for those looking for a full meal. I had two of the savory "everything bagel donuts" with bacon and chive. Please believe me when I tell you the savory ones are probably better than most sweet donuts I've had! The vanilla bean and cookies n cream malasadas were also delicious. The cookies n cream was one of their specialty flavors, which they change around occasionally. In addition to donuts and salads, they have several drink options. I got the Thai Iced Tea, which has always been a favorite drink of mine. I was a little shocked at the $4 price tag for the tea, but I know small businesses tend to be a little higher with their prices. All things considered, it was worth it. I was on the way up 301 from Richmond when I spotted the newest location of B. Doughnuts. I've heard so much about them, but had not been lucky enough to try their treats until now. I immediately pulled into the parking lot, knowing that I'd be happy with what I found. The shop consists of a few tables and a single counter. This simplicity continues into the menu of a dozen or so doughnuts and a handful of drinks. After some thought and a few discussions, I ordered three doughnuts (cinnamon sugar, pandan, and everything bagel with lox) and two beverages (Thai iced tea and a hot chai latte) to go. I'm guessing that the B. doesn't stand for Beverages but it should. They offered coffee with flair- Vietnamese, Spanish, and Rose varieties were all possibilities. Thai tea and house brewed chai were also available, and were what I eventually ordered. Both teas were strong and sweet. At 10 ounces per cup they are not designed to last for long, but the caffeine kick they provided stayed with me for some time. The savory bagel doughnut was my lunch. I worried that the doughnut would be too soft when eaten with the cream cheese, but all was well and I enjoyed it in every way. If I order it again I'll open it and place the salmon inside so I can have it beyond the first bite. My only quibble is of their use of the word "malasada" to describe their filled doughnuts. These are not malasadas, which are crispy, eggy, and generally served moments after being made. I'm not saying that these aren't good doughnuts. They were very good doughnuts and I look forward to encountering them again. They are simply not malasadas. I hope that the company continues to expand, as I'd love to visit a location in the northern MD Burbs. If nothing else, I know I'll end up visiting this location when I'm in the area. I'm looking forward to trying their vegan doughnut next time! read more

Such a unique and delicious donut shop!! I know this is a small local chain and we love supporting the little guys! These are specialty donuts and are a little bit on the pricey side but definitely worth it for a yummy treat. None of the donuts have holes in them so you get more for your money I suppose...lol! They are not mass produced but made in small batches with care. We have been here twice now and they always have quite a few employees working who are very friendly and will happily describe ingredients and help you make a donut choice. They have three savory donut choices and the rest are sweet. I had never had a savory donut until coming here and I really enjoyed it. The three savory choices have everything but the bagel seasoning on them and cream cheese inside...on top they have bacon, chives or lox. I really enjoyed the chive doughnut and my husband thought the lox was delicious. The location itself is very convenient right on 301 and it is decorated so cute and modern on the inside. It seems like most people took their donuts to go but we sat inside to eat. They have just a couple tables for dining in. They have hot and iced coffee and I got a Thai iced tea! So I have been waiting for this cute little doughnut shop to open and it finally did. They have a good variety of doughnuts and the two I tried were delish! Southern Maryland needs more nice trendy spots with products that use fresh, real ingredients. I tried the bacon everything and the lemon curd. They were both soooo good. They were soft and fresh. I also got a decaf coffee with a shot of vanilla. It was okay. My total for everything was about $10. The customer service was so-so however I will give them another visit before I make a determination. The cashiers were nice, it was one of the trainers that was a little short and could have been more upbeat. When you come to these types of places you are looking for and paying for upbeat and great customer service. Overall I thought it was a good find. I met the owner she seemed nice. I will definitely give this place another try and bring hubby for a second opinion. Again the doughnuts were AMAZING, the service so so. FYI they currently only accept credit card but I'm sure that is a soft opening issue and will be resolved soon. I'd say come check them out and give it a try! I love that we have a new business in La Plata that isn't a commercial chain restaurant. The doughnuts are fantastic, the prices are average, the only critique I would have is that the vegan doughnuts are way too pricey ($4 a pop and they're relatively small). I've noticed that businesses always hike up the prices for anything labeled "vegan" when really it isn't all that different from a normal doughnut, and I can't imagine the ingredients being that much more costly either. The taste and texture of the donut for the sweet ones are exactly why I am not a fan of those.
