Over priced. That's the #1 thing you need to know before you go. The beef fat fries were the highlight followed by the liverwurst we got on our charcuterie board. But after each getting two beers, 3 shareables and a board we walked out $100 poorer and still hungry. While they brag about hundreds of beers on their menu, they don't even keep them cold so if you order a bottle you have to wait for it to chill before you're going to be served it. And they only have a handful of beers on tap. We won't be back. The only reason this isn't 2 stars was that I had the best fries I've ever eaten here. Side Note: For such a hip bar I wouldn't have expected for them to have played a Best Of Queen album the whole time we were there on a Sat night. Oh, B Side. I have so many mixed feelings about you. I went into B Side with the intention to LOVE it. From what I read, it was supposed to be similar to my favorite butcher bar - The Whole Ox, down in Marshall. The thing is, B Side is a lot like that place but in Mosaic District it just doesn't work. First, B Side is small and super cramped with only like 12 available tables. We went at 4:30 on a Wednesday, so it was fine for getting a table, but super annoying because we could hear everyone else's conversation and it was super loud. The food was excellent - we all got the burgers, but they were SO expensive for the small, tiny size. I felt like it was just an overly large slider. The wine list is also super expensive as well. I just felt like I could have comparable food for a lower price. I expected a more substantial meal, as one would at most butcher bars. The one perk was a super nice staff! The waiter and the host were super nice. We weren't even charged for our drinks, which appeared to be an accident. When we told the server he told us not to worry about it. So that was super nice, but it still doesn't make up for the portion size. I still recommend trying B Side, but just be prepared to order more or be hungry later. read more

B side is the bar attachment to Red Apron. As a Greg Engert establishment, it's no surprise that the beer selection is focused on high quality craft beers. Their tap selection isn't huge, about 8-10 taps, but they usually have all the standard good stuff plus one or two hard to find beers on tap including Veil beers which I've seen a couple times. The place isn't big so it gets really packed on weekends. On a week night, you should have no problems getting a spot. Beyond beer, they make great cocktails as well. I think I had a Old Fashioned there once and liked it. Bartenders are very friendly and knowledgeable. Overall, this bar is the best kept secret in the Fairfax, Vienna, Falls Church area. read more

My parents have been coming here for years. They always talk about how amazing this place is. When I came to visit they were so happy they could take me here. What followed was the worst experience I ever had in getting a table at a restaurant. The place was crowded and they don't take reservations, they told us an hour wait. We were fine with that, we waited. And hour and a half go by and a table begins clearing, and we are the only ones waiting for a table at this point. At the last minute a group of four men come in and just seat themselves at the table. They clearly had not waited more than five minutes. The manager did nothing to stop this from happening. That manager, by the way, is the most unprofessional and disrespectful person I have ever encountered in the service industry. Im fairly sure she knew these people and just let them sit wherever they wanted because they knew her. I have never been so disrespected by a restaurant as this, absolutely ruined our night out. My parents, who had been hyping this place up for a long to time were so embarrassed. Needless to say, they lost two life long customers. If I was just rating the bar, I would have given it 5 stars-- this is probably one of the best bars in Mosaic or even in the entire Fairfax. They have very interesting drinks with great names such as "I don't even know myself" and classic yet uncommon ingredients such as Amaro in the drinks. The atmosphere is intimate and classy. The food, on the other side, was ok-- did not meet my expectations but was decent, considering the price and the drinks to go along with. We got beef fat fries which were rated the best fries in NOVA-- I personally like duck fat fries more. The rotisefried chicken was great: tender, juicy, and crispy all at the same time. Okay, maybe I was hungry or maybe I was just having a good time with our friends, but the food at B Side was out of this world. First, the atmosphere is great, gentrifications galore, exposed beams, and vinyl playing good old fashion rock n roll, but not so loud you couldn't hear. They get their meats from the Red Apron next door and you can order your own charcuterie platter like you would order sushi. The sausages are fantastic as well as the cheese. I can't explain each flavor, but the two spicy sausages we order were full of flavor and just spicy enough to make you remember. We also had the Brussels sprouts... tangy and spicy. Along with the roasted cauliflower with a pepper purée. The highlight was the rotisserie chicken that is then deep fired. The most flavorful, juicy, and crispy chicken that I've ever tasted. I don't know what they did to that bird, but holy cow it was good. I was the driver so I didn't drink, but the number of brews served filled and entire menu, along with a respectable wine list and cocktails. My boyfriend and I decided to dine in at B Side tonight in Mosaic District. After having no power for an entire day, we were looking for a cozy restaurant to wind down at. Inside was small and intimate with a lax crowd. We ordered their cheese and meat board along with their Brussels sprouts and beef fat fries. I'm a huge fan of the Mosaic District. I remember when it was just a couple of abandoned buildings, and I'm so glad to see so many new places popping up. My boyfriend, cousins, and I were looking for a place to sit down, have a drink, and just catch up. B Side popped to mind, I remember seeing it on Yelp before, but never got a chance to visit it when I was in town. We got in around 5:15 pm on a Friday night (Black Friday actually) and it wasn't too crowded yet. The bartender took a while to greet us, and he told us we could sit anywhere. He also told us we could disregard the "Reserved" signs on any table. I'm not sure why they had it on the table in the first place. We headed towards the back, and once we sat down, our waiter came promptly to hand us a drinks menu and a food menu. Their cocktail list looks awesome, and they have the best names. Their beer/wine list is pretty extensive too. They also had a sour beer on tap! I got the Hey, Hey, What Can I Do? It was good. I normally don't finish all an entire cocktail unless it's REALLY good and goes down smooth (mainly because of Asian glow, and my tolerance is terrible), and I finished all of this. I like the light hint of honey, it made it really enjoyable. My boyfriend and I were also SUPER excited that they have a make your own charcuterie board. I love that they give you a list to fill out your choices and everything. It was convenient and made us feel relaxed. We went a little crazy (as usual) and got the andouille sausage, the pork salami, culatello (proscuitto), the bourbon fig, the foie gras bologna, the gouda, and the pimento cheese as well. The food came out fairly quickly. The waiter was good about telling us what each thing was. It also came with some awesome honey and of course hot mustard. I liked that they used flat bread instead of crackers. It was an interesting change and unique. The pimento cheese was delicious, but there hasn't been any pimento cheese that I've tried and disliked. The foie gras was hands down my favorite. The texture was good and had an amazing flavor. The cheese was average. The prices were a little high for how much you get. But the food was worth it. I love the ambiance and the decor of this place. I love speak-easy like place. B Side is small, with a great bar and a slightly dark lighting. It's a great place for drinks and a snack. I didn't get a chance to try any of the entrees, but the Red Apron Burger sounds and looks amazing. The Rotissifried chicken and beef fat fries sound really good too. Service was great too. The waiter constantly refilled our waters. Even after we were done eating and had paid the check, he came and refilled our waters. I didn't really taste the St. Germain, maybe it mellowed out the grapefruit. The vinegar in the tabasco could not be detected. You could feel the heat/smoke in your throat and on your tastebuds, but it was a good addition to the refreshing grapefruit vodka. Old Brown Shoe: rye, lemon, cinnamon honey syrup, Domaine de Canton (DDC) I usually am not a fan of rye, but the DDC lemon and syrup took the 'bitter' out of all of it and made it refreshing with a hint of tart. That's what I gathered from my limited sips. We weren't hungry, but a little peckish, so we ordered the grilled cheese. It had spicy smoked pimento cheese. If you like pimento with some cheese, this sandwich is for you. I wouldn't say it was bad, but I didn't appreciate the pimento as much as I expected. This place was a complete bust last night when my friend and I visited. This was our second choice after scanning the menu at True Food Kitchen, and coming up short with finding anything we wanted there. Here wasn't the case. The bust was that there were items on the menu that looked appetizing, but when they arrived in front of us -- that changed quickly. Here's the thing -- we like money, and we like food. When we spend money only to realize after the fact that it wasn't worth the money spent; it makes us sad. I won't speak on my friend's behalf, but I'll say that I felt like I just lost a huge bet. Granted we didn't spend copious amounts of money, but with tab a $40 leaving hungry occurs between the both of us - I should have been hobbling out. I feel the items that were raved about were overrated. Example being their beef fat fries. I thought they were simply soggy and more salty than usual. Were they terrible? No. Were they were the credit other reviews have been giving it? No, not in my opinion. Service wasn't amazing. She seemed a bit done with the night by the time she got to her table, and it was blatant in her demeanour. It's not like we got there 5 minutes before her shift ended... it was not even 8pm! The food was drab... her attitude went with the feeling of the meal. I've heard a lot about Red Apron, and that is supposed to be some sort of cool place to go to. Overall, I was extremely disappointed with the burger. There just was not much flavor and especially at the price I felt it was a rip off. I much prefer Five Guys or Shake Shack. Sure enough, there were no tables or seats at the bar available, but we ended up hanging out and waiting. Located in the always busy Mosaic District, this cute little rustic place gets a well deserved 4.2 stars. Even though very narrow, this place can accommodate a good number of people either at the bar or their tables against the wall. Beer lovers, B Side has a ridiculously extensive list of beers. And our waitress was knowledgeable enough to help my friend pick something more up his alley. I'm not a beer drinker, so I went with their cocktails - most of which are bourbon based. Love their creative names for drinks (e.g. Love Street, Don't Let Me Down, I Don't Even Know Myself, etc). I tried their Love Street and Don't Let Me Down and those did not disappoint. While I could taste the alcohol, it was just the right amount of it. They also have an ample selection of wines. For appetizers, you can pick from delicious cheeses or meats served just like sushi. We tried their Brabander Goat Gouda and Smoked Pimento Cheese. The goat gouda was good, but nothing special. I did want to lick the dish after I was done with scrubbing off the last ounce of the pimento cheese :) For our entrees, we ordered the Smokehouse Burger and Butcher's Cut. My burger was alright, but wasn't too impressed with the bun. My friend's butchers cut was quite delicious, however it was pretty cold as if it'd been waiting for the waitress to pick it up. For me, B Side is unquestionably unique. The beer menu is vast, containing some brews I had only read about online, and others that I had never heard of. The decor is cozy, yet somewhat cramped. A long row of tables falls in parallel behind the bar, and a smaller group of tables are bunched towards the end. When it's busy, I'd expect to get to know the stranger sitting next to you if you're on the long table. When you look up B-Side on Yelp, the food listing comes first. American (New), it reads. The problem with B-Side is one of identity. First and foremost, this is a bar that just happens to serve some food. Not the other way around. In D.C., Barrel is an example of this format done right. An exceptional bar/drinks menu is combined with exceptional food. B Side has half of that equation. Unfortunately, the food here really isn't anything special. The burger I ordered medium came out a nearly bloody red, and while I don't mind a little under done-ness on my burgers, a good number of people would have sent it back immediately. Additionally, this was one of the smaller burgers I've had in some time. If the patty is going to be that small, it needs to be backed up by an exceptional flavor and it needs to be cooked properly. This dish had neither. From the B-Small menu, the N'Duja Risotto Fritters had an interesting flavor profile. Orange peel, sriracha, and heat all come through. I enjoyed this dish, but wasn't blown away. Service was great. If this was a bar review, I would be tempted to give five stars. The beer menu is that good. Mosaic Mall has been growing rapidly and has been adding on cool new restaurants including this one. It's away from the hustle and bustle of the main street but definitely more relaxing and intimate. I like the skinny long bar where you can park yourself, order your choice of beer, cocktails, wine or whiskey while chatting up with your bar neighbors and friendly bartenders. If I lived in the area, I will probably come everyday and just make it one of my secret getaways. Food can get better but somethings are worth trying for sure: Burgers are amazing. The right size, good sauce and simple. Burgers are too complicated these days with too jam packed with "other" stuff. I'm a simple guy. Brussel sprouts are over fried in my opinion and can also be little bigger in size. It should have been less fried and more filling. Meatballs served inside of tiny pot is truly the winner here. It's a big meatball stuff inside the kettle pot with polenta and cheese has the right texture and taste. Pig Wings are ok. It could be cooked little more and less seasoning or perhaps more glaze. It just felt undercooked and tough. Great idea. I had something similar in TN and they did it right. I hope to come back soon. read more

This place is exceptional all around from the specialty cocktails, craft brews, and food options. It is a great place for a small group outing, date night, or just to hang out and enjoy a drink. I started out with a cocktail called "The Righteous and the Wicked" at the bartenders recommendation because I couldn't really decide on a type of liquor. It was a good balance of liquor, passion fruit, and other ingredients. I also wanted to try the "Sweet Thing" so I ordered that as well. That one was a little sweet for my taste (well duh... should have known from the name) but still worth a try. I asked the bartender, Jaguar, to whip up something off the menu and he gladly accepted the challenge. He's really a master mixologist. Highly recommend everyone go with this route because it seems like he really enjoys it. The food won't exactly fill you up but is very tasty and worth a try. Everything is pretty much tapas style. Decided to go with the butcher's cut, beef fat fries, pork meatballs, Brussels sprouts, poutine potatoes, and specialty dog. Everything was delicious. I've had this place bookmarked for forever, but when I worked evening shifts, it would always close by the time I was out of work. I was finally able to give this place a try and came with my friend yesterday. Upon going into the restaurant, it had a very romantic and warm ambiance. I would say it's a bit dark, there were little hanging bulbs and candles that were lit on each table, but what really gave it's brightness was the illuminated backsplash type wall near the bar. While the setting seemed good for a date, it was so loud! And cramped! The wait was 20-30 minutes before getting seated. The beer selection is awesome, as they sport over 200 bottled beers (but go for the draft because you can just buy bottled beer). We first got the charcuterie (coppa, summer sausage, and something else I forgot, oops along with cheese red row, pecorino mastorazio, and goat gouda). If you ever get the chance, especially if it's your first time, go and experience the charcuterie, although pricey, you won't regret it. For sides we ordered the beef fat fries; it was DIVINE. crunchy, warm, and it had a lot of kick to it. Extremely flavorful, please note that it is on the heavier side, but it was amazing. I got the smokehouse burger while my friend got the butchers cut. We both got our meat in medium rare. Here's where it felt like the experience wasn't worth it. First, while the smokehouse burger was outstanding and full of flavor, and it was a burger I haven't really experienced before, it was SO. TINY. For 14 dollars...common. And my friend's butcher cut... (see photos) the saucer was bigger than the meat itself. It was like 5 slices. It was definitely not enough for him, as he works out, but honestly, I don't think it would have been filling for anyone. The quality of meat is great, there's no doubt about that. However, I don't think it was worth it for the price. Because it was so disappointing that the serving size was ridiculously small for a "B-Big." It left us disappointed and overall did not leave us feel satisfied. Service was exceptional. The server checked on us multiple times throughout our meal and filled our glasses frequently and promptly. The host also had a great sense of humor and made us feel welcomed. What I suggest is, because apparently the owner of B Side is also the owner of Red Apron Butcher, skip B Side and head over to Red Apron right next door. **DRINKS ONLY REVIEW** I was in the area after watching a movie nearby and decided to stop in for a nightcap with a couple of friends. We were fortunate to grab the remaining couple of seats at a 6 top next to two businessmen and were very well taken care of all night. For our first round I ordered a "Revolution", however, I would not recommend it. It was 50% bitter and 50% tart and 100% not something I would ever like to taste again, sorry. So on my second drink I pulled a 180 and got a "You win again". This drink does win! It's super sweet (which I needed after the first drink) so it may not be my go to, but it was very tasty, it was like a lemon drop, but better. Both the beer and wine lists are extensive, each person I was with was able to find several things they wanted to try and we decided we'd have to come back for food to go with our drinks next time we are there. I loved the atmosphere, it's dark and seductive, but very relaxed. There were people from all walks of life here, everyone seemed jovial, and they played some killer music (all Vinyl too-impressive!). So this was a pleasant little surprise in the back of Mosaic, just a few doors down from Mom's Organic Market. We arrived Saturday evening, we were running late but our friends were already there and got a spot in to request a table which was about a 45 minute wait with a 6PM arrival time (of my friends). The place is quite small so I can see why the wait can be a bit, and the place is crowded. They work in conjunction with Red Apron the butcher next door. They also pride themselves on locally sourced meats. They have nice starter options you can order a charcuterie tray with assorted meats and cheeses, as our server described its sort of like ordering sushi style. We skipped over all that because frankly we were hungry and thirsty. They have some lovely looking specialty cocktails, although one of the members of our group ordered on and for $12 the glass just seemed rather small although she did say it was really good. They also have a huge beer selection that basically takes up 1 page of a legal size piece of paper that the menu appears to be on but in a rustic brown color. They also had a nice wine selection which is what I went with. I got a glass of rose which was good. As for our food, most got the burger who all said it was quite yummy. I got the rotisserie fried chicken, also really yummy, perfectly cooked, and my husband got meatloaf which he loves meatloaf, the waitress told him that was a good call because its coming off the menu soon. Not sure perhaps they keep with a seasonal model. We also got the beef fat fries which were really good too. We got the brownie dessert which was just ok, I think next time I return I'd probably skip dessert since it wasn't much to write home about. The portions are on the smallish side for what you pay so that's part of the reason for knocking off a star, also its really loud in there you can hear your dining companions speak only if they speak loudly. Would I return absolutely for a special occasion or a fun date night which it sort of was for my husband and I although we were celebrating my friend's birthday and frankly we've been living at home depot most Saturdays for the past few months so this was a much needed change of pace. read more

Have you tried the beef fat fries? These fries are beyond amazing. Charcuterie is wonderful too. Beef tenderloin is a definite must try. The atmosphere of this restaurant reminds me of a restaurant you'd find in Brooklyn/Williamsburg area. I have lived in the Mosaic District for several years now and never went into this place until today! It's only gotten on my radar recently, and I became fascinated by the reviews that touted it as having the best burgers in the area! I decided to order takeout. B side and Red Apron are together, and you get the takeout orders from Red Apron. I did stop to check out the bar. It's very cool and was pretty happening for a Sunday night! I had ordered a piña colada with my meal. However, it turned out the piña colada's to go are in a pouch that needs to be frozen in your freezer for about an hour. As such, I switched to a takeout margarita. I didn't appreciate that the margarita I got had orange liquor in it. I thought the name pina margarita meant it was like a piña colada! I can't say I was thrilled with it. But I would definitely love to try out some of the other takeout drinks that are provided by a local company called Show of Hands. In fact, you can just walk in and get them at any time. They are in a refrigerated case in Red Apron. My cheeseburger did not disappoint me. It was delicious! The fries were great too. And I felt seriously stuffed as I knew I would after eating them all in a very short period of time! I would give this place 3.5 stars. Great atmosphere, great music, friendly bartenders with a huge drink selection of beers, wines and cocktails. The inside space is a little on the small side with bar seating and a few table seating but can fill up pretty quickly. They also have some outside seating which can help alleviate some of the congestion on the inside. The next time I go here will be to try the food and their other drink selections. read more

Got the mushroom bolognese for dinner and though it's a bit pricey, it's not a bad dish at all. The portion size may catch you off guard as its perfect for one person (and one person only) which is not the norm at many restaurants these days. I would definitely recommend getting the beef fat fries! They come out freshly fried and delicious. My boyfriend tried the pork meatball as an appetizer and don't get shocked bc it's only one meatball, literally only one. The meat was pretty good again as they are known for their meats here but this small dish was not anything that I would crave. If you love Red Apron's burgers then you won't be disappointed as its the same burger here. B-side also has an enormous collection of drinks so get ready for your mind to be blown by their drinks menu. Love the intimate atmosphere and will def come back for food and drinks soon! read more

Came here for brunch due to good reviews but left disappointed. The food portions left me hungry and was overpriced. For $16 I got 2 small egg benedicts with no sides. It would have been more worth it if fries or a salad were offered as a side. To add to that, we ordered fries and it never came out. Our waiter not only forgot our fries but rarely came back to check on us and refill our waters. Food and service were both underwhelming so I'm likely not returning. read more

Alexis K and I were starving after shopping for groceries so we spontaneously stopped by to grab lunch. Upon walking in we noticed the dim ambiance and the rustic wood theme. I personally am a huge fan of the rustic theme. The waiter was quick to bring out our silverware and the menus. I opted for the Red Apron Burger (cheddar cheese, lettuce, onion, tomato, pickles, and island sauce), the girlfriend opted for the Chorizo Burger and we split the arugula side salad. The food came out pretty quickly- first thing I noticed was the small portion size. Food quality wise, I would say they are 4 stars however the portion size led me to give them a 3 star. My burger was excellent, cooked to the perfect medium temperature. I was a fan of this burger as it was not too greasy and loaded with enough vegetables to balance out the patty. The arugula salad was also good, but I will say it's comparable to most other arugula salads I have had in the past. I'm glad I got the chance to spontaneously stop by this establishment. I just wished the portion size was a bit bigger. If you are looking for a quick sit down in Mosaic, look no further you have found it. read more

***Just for drinks*** B Side. Just saying I'm going to B Side seems to give it a certain essence of cool. At least that was my perception when I went to B Side recently. Located next to Red Apron Butcher (you can walk between places without stepping outside, is B Side. It's a small restaurant that focuses on good quality cocktails, extensive beer selection, and affordably priced food. On our first visit for B Side, we just came for drinks. We chose to sat at the bar, which I liked because it gave us a good view of the place. They have a variety of cocktails to choose from and all with unique names and ingredients. You could get a simple rum and coke here, but B Side definitely embraces the craft cocktail.Yet, you wouldn't think it by the plaid wearing bartenders. I love it. B Side is casual and relaxed but the drinks are anything but relaxed. I chose the 10:15 Saturday Night and my fiance chose the sundayafternonweigthlessness (that's exactly how it's written on their menu). Now they take a few minutes to make your drink which I have no complaints of. When the bartender was taking his time to create my drink, I can only hope it is good. Let me tell you. These drinks are smooth, delicious, and well blended. You know it's good when you can't taste the alcohol but trust me it's there. The bartenders at B Side clearly know what works. I am eager to come back and try the food. B Side is small though and it can fill up quickly. I will just have to plan it so we can get a table. But that is simple enough. read more
