They also have a tasting menu that looked amazing and is definitely on my list for next time. The service was wonderful too. Our waitress was so friendly and made the whole experience even better. What an incredible first experience at Evelyn Rose! From the moment we walked in, we knew we were in for a great evening. As soon as we entered, General Manager Sam welcomed us like old friends. After we were seated, my wife asked if he had previously worked at The Dabney, and sure enough, that's where we recognized him from. It was great catching up as he shared what he'd been doing since then and how his dream had always been to open his own restaurant. Seeing that dream come to life made the evening feel even more special. The restaurant was busy (definitely make reservations), but we were able to enjoy cocktails while we waited for our table. My Grey Goose martini with bleu cheese olives was phenomenal and set the tone for the rest of the meal. We started with the Bison Tartare and the Ceviche. The bison tartare was leaner than traditional beef tartare, and the crispy chips added the perfect savory crunch. The ceviche was incredibly fresh and bright. For our entrées, I had the ribeye while my wife ordered the Dory. The ribeye was cooked perfectly--juicy, tender, and packed with flavor. My wife couldn't stop talking about how buttery and delicious the fish was. To finish the evening, we ordered the 100-Year Port Flight featuring 10-, 20-, 30-, and 40-year ports. Vertical tastings are such a fun way to experience how a wine evolves over time. The 40-year was absolutely outstanding, and the 20-year was another favorite. The 10-year was enjoyable but still showed its youthful character compared to the older vintages. The atmosphere strikes a nice balance between upscale and relaxed. The main dining room can feel a little tight when the restaurant is full, while the bar area has a few TVs for anyone wanting to catch a game. One thoughtful touch that stood out was the women's restroom being stocked with amenities like hair ties and hair clips. We noticed they also offer a tasting menu, and after this experience, that's already on our list for our next visit. Was excited to try this place out with some of my cousins. It gets pretty busy and very loud during dinner time. It's a casual yet somewhat elevated ambiance? The server we had when we were there was not great. I would give him a 2.5/5 for service but the food was definitely the highlight for us. They are known for their homemade pastas and offered a half size portion so you could try both- couldn't pick a favorite, each different and delicious! It had a perfect balance of sweetness from the caramelized onions and a distinct, smoky flavor from being torched. I'll admit, this review is a little biased as my husband and I were frequent diners at Clarity when it was owned by Chef Jon Krinn as that is where we first encountered Chef Nick and Sam and have been following/supporting them ever since the Clarity transition. We definitely went to the Dabney quite a bit when Sam was working there. But, as for Evelyn Rose - we couldn't be more thrilled. When the Bazins announced that they were selling their restaurant, I honesty couldn't think of better new owners, and they have just nailed it. Food: The food is excellent. Always well-seasoned with lots of choices for all different appetites and preferences. A few specific touches that I personally love - half portions of pasta, options on an a la carte menu as well as a tasting menu (every evening!) and the ability to often order courses a la carte off the tasting menu. Flexibility is the name of their game, and it is truly appreciated. Chef Nick really has a way with fish, and that's frequently what I order there, but honestly, I think only one time did I have a dish that I felt was sub-par (I had a meat dish that was slightly overcooked and a tad dry) but that's a few and far between occurrence. Last night I had the rockfish dish which was perfectly crisped, and the sauce and beans that accompanied it were just perfect. My husband had the gnocchi which was light and fluffy. Service: Sam, the co-owner and Sommelier, is really just amazing at hospitality. He is friendly, warm, and always looking to ensure you are having a great experience. He's put together a small, but well-curated wine list - nothing overly expensive, and wines that you'd 'expect' to see as well as hidden gems. He's always willing to offer advice on wine pairings - not just for the tasting menu but the a la carte menu, which is always appreciated by my husband and I. Aside from Sam, generally, the service is attentive most times we have dined there - most of the time, if the service is lagging a bit, it's usually because they are packed! Vibe: Evelyn Rose has a cozy, warm vibe. Lots of exposed wood and blue and gold tones throughout the restaurant. Do note that it can get loud, especially on weekends when they are packed. Other: We are very blessed to have such an excellent restaurant down the street. The menu had a good selections of food and drinks options. The pre-fix tasting menu was a hit for ~$80 and featured 6 courses. Everything was decisions and the total amount of food was more than enough. My companion had fresh-made pasta that was great as well. The wines are very reasonable priced, we had a bottle for $85 that sells in stores for $50. The interior is simple, yet somehow when you are inside, it feels cozy. Not a single bite that was unremarkable. Each dish was approachable but still elevated if that makes sense. The "crust" on my rockfish was torched I believe rather than simply browned in a hot pan. Our family had a phenomenal dinner here tonight. Everything we had-- ribeye, chicken, cavatelli, and chopped salad-- were delicious. Particularly noteworthy for me were the chicken and salad. However the entire time that we sat there there were plenty of tables open. Not sure if they were understaffed or what the issue with tables are. My friend and I were seated at the bar which was pretty packed. We were served the focaccia bread which was delicious and paired with an olive oil. I ordered the scallops as my main entrée. While I found the dish very tasty it was not executed well. The spaghetti squash was all lumped up and the flavored didn't meld well. I love how you're not limited to the whole tasting menu and can order of it if you want to, you can also order an appetizer or entree portion. Their menu seems to constantly rotate with special attention to seasonal items incorporated into the menu as well. Our server Sean (not sure about the spelling, sorry) was fantastic yesterday; super attentive but also gave us space if we were in the middle of a juicy topic and made some great menu and wine recommendations, he even packed up our leftover portions so neatly as well! The food has a lot of variety and flavor. I would come back again when we're less tired or think about hosting a party in the nice space. The waiters took my water glass away at the beginning of our meal session because I blanked in the beginning and said no thank you to them when offered still or sparkling water. So, I had no water offered after the initial sit down. The service was being rushed in the beginning to accommodate our tardiness for our dinner reservation. The place gets filled up quickly for dinner. I got a couple of strange glances my way during dinner from the waitress that offered me water mid-dinner so I felt uncomfortable. The staff is young and I was tired so I forgive them but I get sensitive since I am a minority about the way I am received at places. I suggest diversifying the staff for that reason with darker skin tones. Side conversations are heard across the room in the space. Otherwise, the rest of the service was professional as possible and everyone made good efforts to keep pushing to be so afterwards. The pre-fixe menu is worth a try! We came to celebrate a birthday at Evelyn Rose and were treated like cherished family. This was our first visit, and right away I noticed how warm and friendly the staff were. We're pescatarian and were delighted to find so many delicious options on the menu. We chose the cod and the gnocchi. The tasting menu looked fabulous, and our server suggested we swap the elk for the sole. The cod was perfectly cooked and the gnocchi was abundant and flavorful. There was a mishap with the canapé, and the restaurant immediately apologized. They offered a very generous comp without hesitation. The tasting menu's tuna was my favorite, and the crab cake was delightful. The sole substituted for the elk was flaky and fabulous. We finished with the blueberries & cream shortcake (gratis as a birthday gift) and goat chèvre & cornbread from the tasting menu. Both were perfectly balanced and a wonderful way to end the meal. I had read reviews from others about Evelyn Rose, and I expected that every bite would be truly delicious. What I didn't anticipate was how much we would enjoy the atmosphere - tables with friends reconnecting; families celebrating birthdays; bar patrons hugging and laughing with each other as well as the staff. Overall, 4.5/5 but will bump to a 5/5 for good service and the fact that we all enjoyed our food here. Additionally, we love that the bathrooms contain feminine products, hair ties, etc. which we don't usually see at most restaurants. This most definitely is a huge plus. Surprisingly, I quite liked the baby turnips which was plump and juicy and went well with the bass. CHAI CHEESECAKE - 13 "Did they forget to give us half the cheesecake?" My manager saw the size of the cheesecake and was shocked at how small it was for the price. Overall, the chai flavors were strong and the texture was on the denser side. The chai crumble topping was delicious. My teammates ordered the DOUBLE EGG YOLK PAPPARDELLE PASTA and HOUSE GROUND DRY AGED ROSEDA FARMS CHEESEBURGER (a bit messy, though) which they all enjoyed. Their bathroom is significantly colder than their main dining room, which we all noticed. It also really had the unctuousness that coated my whole palate wonderfully. ~Dry Aged Roseda Farms ribeye (4.5/5): The steak was seasoned so well! The edges were the best part, but the inside was a tiny bit tougher. The steak also had such a nice beef flavor which really highlighted the quality of the steak. The hollandaise was delicious and not overbearing. The vegetables were remarkably cooked. ~Rockfish (4/5): again, the fish was cooked and seasoned so well. The skin was nice and crisp, and the flesh was juicy and flavorful. Same about the vegetables as above. ~Fingerling sweet potatoes (5/5): this side was my FAVORITE part of the meal. I may be biased because I love sweet potatoes, but this was a style I've never had before. It comes with a variety of sweet potatoes (yam, white, purple) and the different cuts on it gave it a different mouth feel with every bite. The hot honey was so good. This dish is on the sweeter side, but the kick in the honey balances it out. ~Vanilla duck egg ice cream (5/5): So creamy and so delicious ~Chai cheesecake (3/5 for cheesecake itself; accompaniments were 5/5): Was a little disappointed that the cheesecake was just a normal cheesecake. Was expecting it to be chai flavored itself or at least have like a chai sauce on top. It came with a chai crumble which was delicious. I recently had a large business dinner and decided to host it here. I used their Resy system to make the initial reservation, but later had to change it to increase the number of people and since I was moving from 5 to 7, the site wouldn't do it and advised to call. It's tought to call this restaurant during the day! I tried many times and only got a voicemail, which advised to leave a message or text them. I texted them and waited a while without hearing back, so I texted again and they finally replied. Very cordial person I was texting, thankfully, because I was in a bind to either increase the party size here or find a new place - either way, I needed to know immediately, not when they get a chance to reply. These types of reservation policies can be frustrating. Once we were there, everything was great! The venue is beautiful and they definitely get packed, especially on a weeknight! They have a very interesting menu loaded with all sorts of amazing entrées, appetizers, and definitely save room for dessert, because they have an amazing dessert list! Service was decent and they can accommodate dietary restrictions, as we had some in our party. The service was impeccable and it was wonderful to meet staff and owners who truly put their heart and soul into customer service; making suggestions, checking on you so your experience is very positive. Sat at the bar for Thanksgiving dinner. We went because we used to like Clarity, the chef's previous restaurant. I recommend the butternut squash tamale appetizer. It was unique. My husband cleaned his Turkey Plate. We brought our own bottle of wine. Corking fee was $30. Wait staff was friendly and professional. Heard good things about this restaurant, so decided to check it out with the family. They change their menu constantly based on the season/availability of ingredients. Overall I would say the food was decent. There were some dishes that were great like the rib eye, pasta and charred corn, but everything else was just ok. Our server was just ok.
