Lots of SE Asian grocery items here. The smell is funky upon entering due to poor ventilation system. Floor isn't the cleanest. Best for a quick run if you forget something from your regular grocery shopping run. Cashier can be short and seems rude at times, but they check out quick!!

Tucked inside towards the left side of Ba Mien Seafood Market you can find their little deli where they sell banh mi, cooked meats, and other dishes! They've been in the works of trying to get Ba Mien Deli to open up for a while, and now they're finally fully in operation! I saw some images of the deli through Google and saw that they were selling a lot of items, but one that caught my eye the most was the Banh Mi Heo Quay, which is a crispy roasted pork belly Vietnamese sandwich. I've had it for the first time back in California and it was amazing, so I was hoping I could find a place that sold this banh mi. So here we are, eating from Ba Mien Deli. First bite from their Banh Mi Heo Quay, it partially had that crispiness I was looking for, but it also was soft/fatty on other parts of the meat. I wasn't completely into that since I was looking for a more crispy/crunchy bite like I've tried before. Even then, the meat had a good porky flavor, and the vegetables in the sandwich are quite standard. The bread was decent too. It's a good banh mi when you're needing to find something for lunch, but I wouldn't say it's the best. Would I come back for sandwiches? Sure! I love supporting Ba Mien as they're a local Vietnamese store in the heart of South Seattle. The person at the front of the deli was also friendly with me, so there wasn't any hassle in ordering, quite straight-forward. I would recommend checking them out and seeing what else they have.

This is the first place I came to while viewing Seattle only because my mom wanted to buy asian food for the place we are staying at. It's like your any typical Vietnamese Asian Market, smells like fish and Vietnamese people shouting at each other in their normal conversation voice. The place is really small so you when you cross aisles you have to make room because that's how close you are (touching back to back). For a small place I was surprised they had kitchen stuff like bowls, plates, pots and spoons. Didn't stay in here too long because I was tired and decided to wait in the car. I guess they have good variety as well.

Warning: If you are not into shopping at Asian markets, then you may not want to look at one of the pics I'm posting. If you are used to shopping at Asian markets, then you may be like, "Oh, YUM!" This is a seafood market, and it MAY have a little fishy/iodine smell. Power through the initial smell wall, and you'll be in a super supermarket ;) I'm not saying that I know how to cook with every ingredient in a market like this: a giant assortment of both fresh and frozen vegetables, including frozen ube; fish that I have never seen outside of an aquarium, the usual oodles of noodles, sauces (picked up some Tom Yum soup base), candies, cookies and a pleasantly-sweet coconut soda called Cocorico. I also picked up a savory and sweet Thai cookie called Crispy Rolls. The prices are really reasonable (whole mackerel was $3.59lb) and rice is superbly priced as well. If you are planning on hosting an Iron Chef party at your house (I'm planning one for August!) and you are looking for unusual ingredients to surprise your chefs with, then you should check out their silkworms (aka ground cucumbers), duck heads, and whole frogs. I can eat anything duck. I love duck feet even more than chicken feet, and eat frogs with gusto, so silkworms are the only thing I haven't eaten yet. I'm glad my Iron Chefs aren't on Yelp because this ish just.got.real. Oh, and if anybody has Alton Brown's number handy, I'd love for him to emcee at the house. Thanks in advance ;)

    oysters being cooked

I always go there to buy meats only because it's near my house. But today I wanted some crab so I went to bought 2, costed me $33.49 because $8.99 per pound. However, when my dad cut it open. It smelt like dead crab and it's so empty inside. I think if you can, people should avoided going there to buy seafood because they ripped you off!!!! If you fancy international, and…read moreexotic fish/crustaceans then you need to visit Wanli Seafood Market on Beacon Ave in South Seattle. Ran by a couple Cantonese guys, who speak barely any English but boy can they get their hands on some interesting critters. They import live seafood from various parts of the world; Asia, Europe, and the Americas. Although they will sell the familiar items you see in the wet markets of the Mediterranean and Asia. Do not be surprised to see the price per pound reflected with the cost of securing and shipping. Expect to pay upwards of $100 at a minimum when you come here. Yesterday, on my way to my aunt's house, I decided to stop by for some oysters. I was wonder why they don't have it. But the fact is they hide them behind. They didn't even let me see the oysters, they quickly packed into a plastic bag. When I got home, I saw that I have oysters'' size like an iPhone 10. The shell of the oysters is very stinky, like it's been under muddy water or sewer for years... so when I open them, the shell keeps breaking. Which makes sense to me why they Havee those that are already opened. I steamed some of the oysters and smell them, they are not fresh.. so I just throw 1.5 dozen of oysters into the trash.

What immediately caught our attention (for obvious reasons) was the bold sign: LIVE KING CRAB. We walked in and were instantly impressed. Large water tanks filled with live Dungeness crab and live king crab, crystal-clear water, and absolutely no fishy smell--always an excellent sign. The space feels more like a clean, well-run warehouse set up for both wholesale and retail, not a typical seafood market. A gentleman working there quickly came over and started chatting with us about crab. Super knowledgeable and friendly. They offer a wide selection: live, fresh, and frozen crab, Japanese scallops, fish, and a variety of shellfish. We considered the live king crab, but it was honestly too big for the two of us to handle in a hotel kitchen--and definitely would've been a splurge. So, plan B: I called my sister-in-law to see if she'd like some frozen king crab legs. She said yes immediately. The gentleman showed us the frozen options, and the king crab legs were long, meaty, and impressive--similar in size to what Costco carries, but priced better. We ended up negotiating a great deal and purchased a box of their Party Pack King Jumbo Crab Legs for her. Later that evening, she surprised her daughter with a king crab birthday dinner, and they reported the legs were super meaty and absolutely delicious. Safe to say, we'll definitely keep Seattle Seafood Center in mind for future seafood splurges. If you love high-quality seafood and especially crab, this place is worth a stop--even if it's an unplanned one.
