One of the best LIVE seafood markets in the pacific northwest. If you fancy international, and…read moreexotic fish/crustaceans then you need to visit Wanli Seafood Market on Beacon Ave in South Seattle. Ran by a couple Cantonese guys, who speak barely any English but boy can they get their hands on some interesting critters. They import live seafood from various parts of the world; Asia, Europe, and the Americas. Although they will sell the familiar items you see in the wet markets of the Mediterranean and Asia. Do not be surprised to see the price per pound reflected with the cost of securing and shipping. Expect to pay upwards of $100 at a minimum when you come here. (Negating the basic North American species they offer like spot shrimp, Dungeness, Maine lobster, Rockfish, etc) Some of the delectable species I had the honor of feasting on: South American spiny lobster Mantis Shrimp (AKA in Cantonese "Laai Niu Haaa") European Langoustine lobsters Brown Edible crab Mud crabs Blue Flower crabs Marbled Sand Goby Opilio crab (snow crab) Cabezon, Greenling, various other bottom dwelling fish This place doesn't have a number. You basically call the owner to see what shipments he will be getting. This is my hidden, not so hidden anymore gem for tasty sea animals.

Yesterday, on my way to my aunt's house, I decided to stop by for some oysters. I was wonder why they don't have it. But the fact is they hide them behind. They didn't even let me see the oysters, they quickly packed into a plastic bag. When I got home, I saw that I have oysters'' size like an iPhone 10. The shell of the oysters is very stinky, like it's been under muddy water or sewer for years... so when I open them, the shell keeps breaking. Which makes sense to me why they Havee those that are already opened. I steamed some of the oysters and smell them, they are not fresh.. so I just throw 1.5 dozen of oysters into the trash.

They have wide selection of fresh seafood. The store also has an excellent range of pantry staples,…read moresnacks (chicharon, chips, dried fish) and frozen items (fish balls, siomai, marinated meats) condiments, rice, and hard-to-find brands. Good produce and meat counter too. Prices are reasonable and fair for specialty items. The in-house restaurant which is Philhouse serves authentic "lutong bahay" (home cooked Filipino meals) which I really like. They also have fresh baked breads, pastries and treats in their panaderia. The service has been always polite, helpful and friendly. Can get busy at Philhouse during peak meal times.

I love the meal kits to make different Filipino soups for those lazy days you don't want to cook. The produce here always look so fresh. Their meat section offers all sorts of cuts that you would need for recipes or parties. I need to still buy fish from them so I can have them fried as they offer that as a service. The staff here are always so friendly and professional. They also have a birthday offer for those who sign up for their rewards program which is great to have if you shop here every so often. The store is always clean and organized any time we come by. I do also love how brightly lit and decorated the store is. The food court here is great and we have only tried stuff from the bakery and PhilHouse but want to try the other offerings as well!

Seattle Seafood Center was such a great find--one of those unexpected gems you stumble upon while…read morelooking for parking for a nearby restaurant. What immediately caught our attention (for obvious reasons) was the bold sign: LIVE KING CRAB. We walked in and were instantly impressed. Large water tanks filled with live Dungeness crab and live king crab, crystal-clear water, and absolutely no fishy smell--always an excellent sign. The space feels more like a clean, well-run warehouse set up for both wholesale and retail, not a typical seafood market. A gentleman working there quickly came over and started chatting with us about crab. Super knowledgeable and friendly. They offer a wide selection: live, fresh, and frozen crab, Japanese scallops, fish, and a variety of shellfish. We considered the live king crab, but it was honestly too big for the two of us to handle in a hotel kitchen--and definitely would've been a splurge. So, plan B: I called my sister-in-law to see if she'd like some frozen king crab legs. She said yes immediately. The gentleman showed us the frozen options, and the king crab legs were long, meaty, and impressive--similar in size to what Costco carries, but priced better. We ended up negotiating a great deal and purchased a box of their Party Pack King Jumbo Crab Legs for her. Later that evening, she surprised her daughter with a king crab birthday dinner, and they reported the legs were super meaty and absolutely delicious. Safe to say, we'll definitely keep Seattle Seafood Center in mind for future seafood splurges. If you love high-quality seafood and especially crab, this place is worth a stop--even if it's an unplanned one.

They said they have live eel sometimes as well but they didn't have it on the day I went. The medium sized dungeness crab was $6.99/lb and large was $7.99/lb and I believe the spot prawns were $13.99/lb. We ended up buying 10 large dungeness crab and 2 pounds of live spot prawns for just under $200- DEALS!!! Don't forget to bring cash! If you forget, you can go across the street to the gas station and pull out cash with a $3.50 fee. We drove down from Edmonds, and the drive was worth it!

She said they just arrived yesterday and they're fresh. But when I got home and started cooking, there was so much water in the legs. I already knew it means the crab has been sitting in the water tank for a long time. When it's fully cooked, the meat is about half the size of the leg. I called back to the shop and the owner continues to lie and said they got the crab fresh this morning and then literally hung up on me without giving me a chance to say anything. I dialed back and it wasn't even going through so I know she must've blocked my number. TLDR: SCAM OWNER. DO NOT COME.

Experiencing their dry-aged fish Omakase offering in person this week was a reminder of why I enjoy purchasing from Local Market whenever I'm on the East Side. The owner Mark is incredibly knowledgeable, down to earth and willing to answer any silly question you may have. His passion for his craft is obvious, and this company deserves nothing but the best!
