They were pretty fresh and yummy. The guy working there was really nice. He had a lot of advice and suggestions. The place is literally a fish market so not a dine in place. Parking is ample. Unfortunately this was disappointing. It might be cuz I didn't have time to pull up the menu/reviews before hand and I asked for the lunch special and received the poke bowl. But the lunch omakase special is what I really wanted I think. But even so. The poke bowl was mixed. I have to unfortunately knock off the stars/taste because the rice I got was literally the worst rice I've ever had touching raw fish. The rice was like hard and stale. I even had a clump that looked like it was the burnt part from leaving it on the cooker for too long and it couldn't bite it. I know this place is for the fish, but there's a bare minimum expectation on rice quality. And the fish itself was good? Maybe cuz it's the poke and not the omakase (so mixed chopped pieces) but there were pieces that tasted super fresh and delicious and then there were pieces that had so much tendon I couldn't bite through it. The folks there were super nice and friendly especially since I had no idea what to order. Just wish I was more delighted by the meal, especially cuz it was like $18 poke bowl. I first went to Local Market just after the pandemic thanks to their offerings on the Top Good to Go app. After realizing the quality was absolutely worth the drive from Seattle, I took them up on a crab offer I saw after following them on Facebook and got 20 pounds for a crab boil I planned as a direct result of their sale. When I arrived their supplier had not yet arrived with the product, so the owner coordinated free delivery same day so that I could be free to go home and prepare for the dinner party. Experiencing their dry-aged fish Omakase offering in person this week was a reminder of why I enjoy purchasing from Local Market whenever I'm on the East Side. The owner Mark is incredibly knowledgeable, down to earth and willing to answer any silly question you may have. Received a great order of giant snow crab legs. Each leg and partial body part was filled to the max with excellent quality crab meat, in WHOLE PIECES! The lump crab meat was sooooo good too! I am really happy I ordered from Caviarman_G, his customer service is great and he really cares about the customer experience. I will definitely trust them with all future orders for sure!!! Tip: Thaw it out completely and then just heat up for 20-30 minutes in the oven at 350 degrees. Have it with some garlic butter and lemon wedges. I also used some handy garlic salt. What we received was definitely not that. $20 for 8 pieces of paper thin fish over not fully cooked rice. The fish was flavorless as well. Picked up a surprise Cajun crab boil bag from too good to go and was super excited about it because we got a $100 bag for $33! It looked like a decent amount of food when we picked it up and there was a sealed and smoked fish (?) but there was no info on what was actually in the bag, he just said boil for 10 minutes and that was it. You can see the seasoning that was given to us, it wasn't enough to give anything any flavor, but it did smell good when we opened it so I think a slightly larger portion would significantly improve the overall flavor of the bag. We cooked everything and it looked great and we liked the shrimp but unfortunately the crab did not have the flavor you would expect from a good quality seafood specialty store. My boyfriend and I love crab and this was just not it for us. I'm not sure if we just got unlucky because we have seen other reviews of people who loved the bag but this was not the case for us. We also were unsure of what the fish was and did not enjoy that either. I personally would not get the bag again if this is the normal quality but, again, I've seen many people give positive reviews so I hope it was just a fluke. Besides that, the store itself looked like it had a lot of high quality items! They had live crab and what looked like fresh fish. Stay a way from this place, we ordered red caviar for more than 400$ and got scammed. We received many small frozen jars, when we defrost one, discovered red mushy substance, that had weird odor. We reached over to the store and were promised for replacement. After some time we received frozen containers, two pounds each, and placed them in the freezer. I purchased otoro, ika, salmon, and uni -- everything was incredibly fresh, beautifully prepared, and very reasonably priced for the quality. They also carry a wonderful selection of premium ingredients. I was especially happy to finally find the wasabi paste I had been looking for, along with many other high-end specialty items. Mark was exceptionally kind and knowledgeable. He generously offered a spoonful of caviar for tasting and took the time to explain the different varieties and flavor profiles. He only sells quality items in his store and is so friendly and kind. I got to try omakase style dry-aged black sea bass, fluke, gold eye snapper, madai, and Cyprus steelhead and fresh scallops and red fin tuna and wow he made each dish beyond flavorful and the freshness and quality can be seen and tasted. They also carry items like duck prosciutto, sardines, sauces, cold smoked items, fresh live seafood, unique flavored chips like foie gras, truffle, iberico ham, and also have storemade bacon. Their selection of salami's I wanted to sell the store out. Huge amount of variety for sardines as well. They carry smoked salmon that looks delicious and honestly, the whole store just has too many goods and is like heaven on earth. We were on a waitlist close by, so decided to check out the TooGoodToGo app and saw Local Market still had 'Seafood Ready Meals Surprise Bag' available for $4.99 (regular price $14.99). We placed and paid for the order, and then took a walk to get there in time. We ended up getting a deli container (1 lb) of soup, the smoked salmon chowder....well, it was the soup at the bottom of the pot: no salmon chunks, just bits, a little bit of potato and corn, plenty of liquid. Not worth $4.99, let alone $14.99 original price. Nothing else was included (no bread, crackers). The service was friendly enough (thus the two stars), and since it took a little bit of time to prepare, he suggested we browse. I can't help but think that what we got was directly related to how he felt what we would buy...once he got the impression we weren't going to get anything else, he gave just enough to show that we got something. I'm really confused how this business can have such a high rating...I must be missing something. Also, this is the 2nd bad experience I've had with TooGoodToGo, so will be deleting it from my phone. It uses 'People wanting to do Good' to get you to try new businesses who are trying to reduce wasted food, but twice now from my personal experience, it seemed like some businesses are using it as just a way to get people to come to their business without actually having any wasted food....one sign would be if the package is not ready to go when you get there (since you've already paid for it, and there is only a 'limited' number of expiring food)...if they have to 'prepare' it after you come, it's a bad sign. read more

Wow, is the first word that comes to mind when describing the seafood here. I first found this market online through caviarmamgourmet.com. I was trying to get a last minute rush overnight order in to prep for a dinner party and Mark was so gracious to accommodate. We ended up ordering the 28 day dry aged Spanish bluefin otoro, tyee dry aged salmon, frozen salmon caviar ikura. We used these ingredients along with some other stuff we bought locally in Southern California to have an awesome in home sushi dinner and it was a huge hit! Highly recommend. I've visited Local Market twice and have had great experiences both times. I first heard about the shop through "Too Good to Go" an app that partners with local businesses to give them an opportunity to post surprise bags of groceries and meals at a discounted price, rather than have the food go to waste. The first time I went through Too Good to Go I got the following for $19.99: Bluefin tuna 1 large halibut collar 1 salmon collar Calamari rings Asparagus Lemon The second time I went through TGTG again, for $19.99 I got: Scallops 4 large halibut collars Smoked salmon White fish (can't remember the name) Asparagus All the food we got was high quality and great. It was also fun to get stuff we wouldn't normally seek out and try to cook new dishes. For instance, I normally wouldn't seek out fish collar, but both the halibut and salmon collars were so flavorful. Each time we went we got enough groceries for 3-4 meals for two people. If we lived on the Eastside, we'd be stopping by all the time. On top of all that, staff was very friendly. Both times we went it was just one guy behind the counter. Found this place on the Too good to go app and got two bags on 5/17, one $60 surprise bag and one crab boil. Crab boil was good, and I was looking forward to the surprise bag but the items didn't seem to align with the description of the bag or the reviews on here for the same bag. It seemed to be more aligned with the ready to eat meals bag than the surprise bag, as the surprise bag said it would include "grocery items like ingredients, smoked fish, fresh or frozen seafood, salad, kitchen special, and/or fresh trim". The ready to eat meals bag is said to include "Ready to eat food containing raw and cooked Seafood items like Sushi, poke, salads, soups, and other ready to eat items". We ended up getting octopus salad, unlabeled tuna poke (we had to ask what it was), halibut soup, ground trout, and an opened bottle of heinz ketchup marked not for resale (?). We ended up going in to ask about the bag and compared the descriptions for both bags, but was told I had the correct bag. Doing the math on the items with labels, it didn't seem to add up to $60 value either. We didn't end up eating any of it unfortunately. Crab boil 4/5 Surprise bag 1/5 I might try this place again for the crab boil and to buy seafood in the future, but it was definitely disappointing to receive a bag of premade food when I was looking forward to using ingredients to make something new for dinner. read more

My mom and I stumbled across this market while waiting for our dog to be done at the groomer and it is truly a gem! While it is a small space inside, we were immediately greeted upon entering even with there being another customer and staff moving about the space. The owner Mark is absolutely fantastic and came out at one point giving what felt like a mini tour to both my mom and I. I had seen the name of the market pop up on Too Good to Go which he explained the surprise bags more as items they hand pick and are trying to get rid of that day (straight forward). They opened during the pandemic and mainly sell to local restaurants in the area. If there is anything you are interested in trying within reason, you can sample the product. Mark was very informative about how they source their products, how he would cook them, and other items he'd recommend for serving them with. What stood out to me is that they can prep the fresh seafood for you as you'd like with items they sell in store. We left with fantastic fresh poke, their special seafood sauce, and a mystery bag to try out. Our mystery bag (the $20 for $60) that day ended up containing smoked fish, pate, bonito flakes, squid, meaty fish bones, and fish collar. This allows us to try preparing some items we hadn't had before at a reasonable rate. The squid we turned into calamari to use with their seafood dipping sauce; salmon bones we boiled some to make into fish stock for our dog and froze extra for stock to add into soup; collars we steamed in a Chinese ginger sauce; pate we shared with our neighbor on thick crust black bean chips; and the smoked fish we are going to turn into a dip for the holidays. Would highly recommend if you are looking to purchase fresh seafood at a reasonable rate and are looking for an excellent experience! I know I need to visit again soon. read more

We took a trip to Hawaii in February (it was our first time there), and we ate poke every single day we were there. We couldn't get enough of it. It was delicious and the fish was so fresh. We hadn't had poke that good on the east side, but we felt there HAD to be good poke here because of all the amazing seafood in the area. After taking about a month off from poke (we kind of overdid it in Hawaii lol...), we were ready to get back on the saddle. But we knew we didn't want to get it from a poke restaurant -- we wanted to make it ourselves. We found Local Market on Yelp and were convinced (by the reviews) that it was worth a shot. We got some fresh tuna and some sesame oil for our poke mix. The tuna? Some of the best and freshest tuna I've ever had. It just melted in my mouth and has the most incredible flavor. We got 1.5lbs for the two of us, and we got about four meals total from that. Even on day two and three, the tuna still tasted amazing. The sesame oil was a perfect addition to the poke mix. I'm not 100% if the gentleman working that day was the owner, but whoever he was, he was awesome! He was extremely knowledgeable about poke and fish in general, and he gave us some great tips on how to make our poke the best. We really appreciated the time he took to talk with us and share his knowledge. He was so friendly and it made for a great experience. Our poke bowls consisted of rice, green onions, edamame, fresh cucumber, warm brown rice, and our poke mix. In our poke mix, we used sesame oil, soy sauce, kewpie mayo, sriracha, and then topped it with some sesame seeds. Let me just say -- the poke bowl was better than most of the ones we've tried in the Seattle area, and it definitely reminded us of the delicious poke we had in Hawaii. I'm not sure if we'll ever go back from making homemade poke bowls now that we've found Local Market. :) It was on the pricier end compared to what we'd normally spend on any type of meat, but it was clearly very fresh and high quality. Wow, what a great fresh seafood market! This is a real treat to have on the east side; I used to drive into a specialty market in Seattle for unique finds and high quality fish. Alex helped me last week with my "Too good to go" sample bag which is a total steal (and such a cool app). We walked away with the most melt in your mouth salmon cheeks, a salmon fillet, fish cakes and a white fish (I don't remember what it was) and it was all so yummy.
