When I walked in, I thought this place looked familiar. It seems that I was here more than one year ago and took photos but neglected to write a review. I shall remedy that today. The salad that accompanied the meal was quite rustic - roughly cut cabbage, a few thin slices of tomato and cucumber and a big hunk of red onion. It was a perfect balance for the chicken and rice. Sublime‼ I was not expecting a half chicken - and oh what a chicken! The skin on this chicken was the crispiest I've ever had without it being fried. It was like chicken crackling! There was a white sauce - thick and yogurty in taste that also enhanced the chicken. Whatever they do to make the chicken skin as crispy as it it, changes the texture of the meat. It is soft as opposed to tender, if you can consider the distinction. It is very interesting but not in a bad way. It's as though the chicken was boiled until tender, drained and patted dry and then baked in very high heat after the skin was oiled. I don't know if that is the process but that the best way I can describe the end product. I have one very small complaint about the meal - it could have used a bit more salt all around. And yet, when I put the rice, chicken, and salad into one bite I did not miss the salt at all! I came in around 5:45 pm on a Saturday evening and left about 7:40 and no one came in to dine or pick up take out. The meal totaled $21.53. The portion was enough for three. The entree was$14.99! I hope that they are doing well but I think they could do better if they kept the prices but cut their portions. I would like to see them remain in business. The food is good and the atmosphere is pleasant and relaxing. There was a TV on the wall but it was not on. There was no "background" music and I found that very relaxing. I find that I am in this area quite frequently and I will remind myself to stop here more frequently. Please, do yourself a favor when in this area and stop by for lunch or dinner. You can't go wrong with the quality or quantity of this food.

My first time to this restaurant and it definitely won't be my last. My food was delicious. Clean restaurant and good service also. Look forward to trying other menu items.

Wanted to try something different and authentic Iranian / Persian cuisine is definitely something I don't see every day. I'm not sure how long they've been open, but I get the sense that they haven't been open very long. They weren't busy at all when I got there early in the evening - I was greeted politely and offered my choice of seating. My entree (Kobidah Lamb) turned out to be very familiar to me since it was similar to Greek and Mediterranean dishes I've had. The dish included a lot of rice... far more than I could possibly eat (I took some home). The lamb and rice were both very tasty... and on that note, I don't recall calling rice "tasty" in a review before, but this was some of the best rice I've ever had. Since the goal was trying something new (to me), I picked a couple appetizers that looked interesting - Sambosas and Arabic Bolani. In a way, these dishes have some similarities... Sambosas are essentially meat stuffed deep fried dumplings and I would loosely compare Arabic Bolani to a cheeseless meat filled quesadilla. Of the two, I preferred the Sambosas... the Bolani was pretty bland by itself, but served with accompaniments that optionally added some flavor. Overall, very happy with my experience - good food, service and the place was clean (including the restroom). Thumbs up.

Chicken Karahi to die for!

There are several Afghan options around this area but this one is the best! I have been here at least 4 times in the last two weeks to get their Chicken Karahi. The food is not only phenomenal but reasonably priced. To top it off the owner is super kind and greets me with a smile every time. Definitely check this place out if you are in the mood for some delicious home cooked Afghan food!

Having grown up eating Afghan food, I was excited to find this restaurant and taste the cuisine. The restaurant was clean, the ambience authentic, and the service friendly. My girlfriend and I shared the Bolani, the Mantou, the Chicken, Steak, and Lamb Kobidah combo. I really enjoyed all of the dishes, each one made fresh to order (which does require more of a wait, but completely worth it), and even had some to take home for the next day. We also enjoyed complementary cups of hot Afghan tea on a cold night. I wish I lived in the area, because if I did, I would certainly return often! I hope those of you reading will make a frequent visit to this wonderful restaurant.

I've been wanting to try this place for the past weeks now and finally got around to it when I went on a late lunch break. This place is not far from work and I ordered the shawarma. On the menu, it doesn't indicate the kind of meat so I'm guessing you get to pick. I just chose the chicken and to my surprise it was very tasty. It has a curry flavor to it. For $9.99 it wasn't bad and wish it came with a side. There was no one there when I came and they made my food quickly was appreciated due to having to return to work. There was a lady there and we had a difficult time understanding ea other as I wanted to know how much more it would cost for a side of fries or salad. The option of sides are also not on the menu. So I think if they can print that on the menu or have it up somewhere that would be helpful. The place is a bit hard to find from the main road off of Manzanita as their sign is not on the brick/roof area. But if you get closer to the building you can see a sign on the glass window. They are located I think a door or 2 down from the Strings Italian restaurant. The restaurant was clean and bright, I might come back to eat in the restaurant one day and try other items.

fresh afghan food. I like the mantou and arabic bolani. the ambiance is pretty bare bones, but the food is tasty and gives a unique experience. Service is pretty good, but you'll want to expect English is a second language. what is afghan food? There's influence from Chinese, Indian, Mediterranean, and Persian. It's really it's own thing, but interesting to see the different elements come together. I took some photos of the Menu since it's hard to find elsewhere.

This is the small family owned restaurant. The owner's name is Abbas. He was very nice. I went to eat dinner there and after talking with him, and enjoying the food immensely, I decided to have a birthday party there for my cousin. They have the best bolani I've ever had in my life! It is thin and crispy. Every dish we ordered was fantastic, including the beef, chicken, rice and Vegetables. The dining room is not very big or have much ambience but the food is incredible. I would recommend them for a family dinner or catering.

The food here is phenomenal. The rice was fluffy and buttery, the meat was all tender and well-seasoned, and the soup was herbaceous and piping hot. While they didn't offer a drink menu, I asked if they could make doogh, which they did with no issue. I will definitely be going back.

This place is SO GOOD!! First time here and we will be back!!! Portions are really good and the flavor is perfect!!!! Hands down 5 stars

Ambience was quiet as we were the only customers here for lunch at noon, they need your business! I ordered the combo kabob plate and my son the chicken curry. A Diet Coke and a water quenched or thirst. The dishes came out in about 15 minutes and the smells of the food cooking really piqued our hunger. The portions were huge and looked really tasty. They were! An excellent place to grab a bit to eat.

Food was delicious; we enjoyed it. They deserve to raise their prices since it's practically dirt cheap for what you're getting. I wish them the best of luck as they are a fairly new business.

It was slow tonight when I came in so the service was prompt and the man behind the counter was very friendly and asked several questions I had about the menu and about halal food in general. He taught me a few new things about middle eastern food and he was very helpful in that regard. I ordered the gyro plate and at the last minute decided to just eat in rather than take-out. So, I had a seat and the man at the counter brought out a very delicious chicken and corn chowder which was an unexpected surprise and I really enjoyed it greatly. Then, as I finished the soup, he brought out the gyro plate which was stacked generously with rice, meat, sauce with lettuce, tomato and onions. The meat was delicious, the Greek tzatziki cucumber sauce was very good also. Overall, for a very reasonable cost of about $15 I had a very satisfying meal that I struggled to even finish. Very good value. I will return with the family and I can recommend Darya to anyone looking for a meal! I did notice some very negative reviews, and I suspect that this could be related to cultural misunderstandings perhaps? English is clearly not the first language for the people running this restaurant so I think it's important to understand that perhaps it's a good policy to level expectations to that fact.

It was plain with butter. 1/5 stars. -Go anywhere else I hate to leave this review, but if you have eaten at a quality Indian restaurant, cafe, chaat house, or even hole in the wall you would realize the overwhelming disappointment in flavor, preparation, pricing and commitment to quality. The kicker, guy that handed me the food said we are making it all fresh for you right now...these were leftovers from their buffet I suspect. Sad I had to post, would love a quality Indian option in the area, you will have to drive elsewhere. I challenge those that love this place to measure it against Trader Joe's frozen entree options. ¼ of the price, more flavor and tastes fresher...which is crazy for me to say, I know, but try it. Extremely disappointed patron....oh and don't use the left door, you will walk right into their Open Hours sign face first...saw a man do it on his way out. I wish I saw Monica's review before mine, but Yelp decides to default to the best reviews first. Yikes!!

The meat doesn't look fresh either. It's really a sad affair what happened with all the afghanis coming into Sacramento, they bought all the grocery stores and restaurants to open Afghani restaurants and grocery stores, there is one on every damn block and sometimes two or three across from each others. How many Afghani restaurants or grocery stores do we need? They can survive making $100 a year and write off taxes. We no longer have Mediterranean food meaning food from the Mediterranean like Lebanese or Syrian or Jordanian food, it all has been taken over by afghanis and they pretend to cook Mediterranean food when it's not. Afghani food is primarily meat and rice and they wouldn't know a vegetable to save their lives when Mediterranean food is primarily vegetables balanced with some meat. Stay away from this rotten place and be cautious about other Afghani stores as well, it's pretty much the same quality and story.

At one point, she made physical contact with customers, which felt inappropriate and raised serious safety concerns. The cashier was wearing a white top and a jean skirt, and her face was partially covered. Her conduct was aggressive, unprofessional, and inconsistent with the expected duties of a cashier, which should include remaining at the register, assisting customers respectfully, and maintaining a safe environment.
