We haven't been to Baan Thai for a while (maybe 5 months?) and decided to have dinner there the other night. It was quite disappointing. The server and service was fine, but the food was not. My husband ordered the Lar Gai, which is described as "minced chicken salad.." What he was served was ground chicken with too many red onions and a small amount of lettuce. It was quite spicy, he doesn't mind, but he felt sick afterwards. My order was the stir fried green beans with tofu (not spicy). I've enjoyed this dish before, but this time it was extremely greasy and the portion was very small, considering it is listed as an entree. Don't know if Baan Thai was just having an "off" night but don't think we'll go back anytime soon. read more

1st Thai Restaurant in Kansas that I've been to and I was pretty satisfied! They have spicy & non-spicy choices on the entrees which is cool. My husband and I went on a Friday night at 8pm so its was crowded and the food took a long time to come out but our server Jackie was nice and told us that the restaurant had only TWO WOKS to work with! And they serve Thai beer! We had the Goong Gra Borg(shrimp & bacon in egg roll wrapper), papaya salad, dry sukiyaki, baan thai shrimp. ALL OF IT WAS DELICIOUS. Our only complain was that the papaya salad wasn't spicy enough but we got it MEDIUM so next time we will try HOT. The only reason for not being 5 stars was because of the long wait and the pricing isn't that expensive but isn't that cheap either. College student through mature adult staff was very friendly and helpful Service: Excellent 1. Able to recommend items 2. Topped off drinks every 5-10 minutes 3. Asked if we needed anything during drink top off. Food: Good 1. Too spicy: Thai food always has a bit of kick to it, and the server forgot to ask if we wanted it mild, normal, spicy, or use the 1-10 spicy numbering system. My wife is pregnant, and while normally a fan, was unable to eat the food because it was assumed we wanted it normal. 2. Excellent flavors. 3. Rice portion seemed small. 4. If it was not for the spiciness it would have been excellent. Price: Fair 1. Price of meal for two was $28 dollars including an appetizer, a pot of soup, and a main course (we split it though). They have a monopoly on Thai food in the city and they know it. Slow, understaffed and overpriced. Wait staff will walk by your table like you don't matter. Don't try the Tom Yum. It will ruin the dish. Again, they know they're the only Thai food place in town and they treat the customers accordingly. Eat it or starve. read more

I was staying next door at the Parkwood Inn and Suites and the staff recommended this place to me. I had the shrimp pad thai and it was really good. Just ordered the Pad Thai to go and unfortunately it had a little bit too much vinegar in it for me. I ordered it mild-spicy but it seems like the food had been sitting around too long. Not sure what this issue was this time because usually the food is really good when you order in or get it to go. I was really disappointed in the Tom Kha Gai soup- it was very watery and had too many spice leaves in it. Usually its a rich coconut consistency versus theirs which was more a lemon and water broth. Came here with a large group. We pre-ordered our food since we had limited time for lunch. I had the Pad Thai with chicken. It was beautifully presented. Large portion that I was somehow able to mostly consume. It was just as tasty as the Pad Thai I've had at home. The restaurant itself was cute and looked clean and fresh. The only thing that made my experience a little bit difficult was that we all had separate checks. When we went up to the cash register to pay, we had to figure out who ordered what since they orders were not in any particular order. Maybe since we had such a large group, if we had gotten our checks brought over to us instead of us waiting in a huge long line in front of the cash register, we might have been able to pay more efficiently. read more

Food is great. My daughter made a mess on the floor and as I was nicely cleaning it up I noticed an entire ant colony of ants. Mentioned it to our waitress it was no concern of hers and her reaction made it clear they were aware of the issue. If this is how the dining area is and how they handle things and they don't care about it I can only imagine what the kitchen looks like. It's amazing that there is Thai food of this quality available in Manhattan. I've been many times to Baan Thai and the food has always been stellar and the service is always beyond efficient and kind. They will even go off the menu if you request to try something special or just something they would fix for themselves at home. The people that work there have come around many times to make sure that everything was good, and the last time I spoke with them they were really bummed that they had received a couple bad reviews on the internet. I've eaten at Thai restaurants all over the U.S. and this is one of the best I've ever been to. This is the kind of place I'm more than happy to write a great review for! read more

So excited this place finally opened! It is a big improvement over Aroy Thai in terms of flavor and price. We ordered the soft spring rolls, which were good and fresh, though a bit pricey for what you get. Entrees were pad thai (DELICIOUS) and ginger chicken (ALSO DELICIOUS). I left with a box of leftovers to eat the next day, but ended up scarfing them that same night because I couldn't wait. The atmosphere leaves a bit to be desired, and it's pretty small, but the food is quite good. This place will definitely become a staple for me. read more

One of my favorite Thai place in Manhattan. Try the Spicy Basil with pork, Panang Curry and Beef Soup.

It was my first time trying out this restaurant. I was in town for the night and they had delivery service so I went for it. When I called the restaurant I was directed to call the delivery people directly to place my order. Usually, the restaurant takes your order than contact these outside people themselves. I guess when in Kansas. Delivery was nearly $4 but they were quick. Food arrived with no utensils or napkins. I had the GhaRee yellow curry with steamed rice. It was just ok to me. The portion was very small for $11.75. The sauce was watery, more potatoes than chicken few bits to be exact, and spicy really means spicy. The curry came in a small round plastic bowl and the rice was also in a small styrofoam tray. Tom Yum was delicious, but again the meat was lacking. It's a 2 star for me, I have had way better. They're not very generous with the portions...$26 later still hungry. They should also update their menu online because the prices were wrong. read more

Slow service. Meals are brought out to the table individually rather than all at the same time. By the time my meal was brought to the table everyone else at the table had finished eating. I have been to Baan Thai a few times, and I have never been disappointed. Never. Never. Let me preface this by saying that I love Asian inspired food and I am a vegetarian, so I am slightly biased. Baan Thai is a quiet place. The service is always good, and the food is very spicy, another thing that I look for in food. I like spicy, so I again emphasize I am biased. I have tried their Pad Thai, Rice Noodles in Thai Gravy, Red Curry, Green Curry, and Yellow Curry. It is all flavorful, fresh, and presented beautifully with lovely dining ware. Before I tasted their food, I had never eaten Thai cuisine before. I have still not been to Thailand, but if and when I should be so blessed as to see Thailand, I will look forward to trying the food, knowing that Baan Thai easily launched me into a passion for it. read more

This is a new place in town, and I love Thai. The building and decor are nice, very clean, but the lights are a bit too bright. The menu is very diversified. We started with the soft spring rolls (2 for $5.95). Certainly not worth the price, not much in them but lettuce and cilantro esp. since I didn't want shrimp in mine. We ordered cashew chicken and a sweet and sour chicken( most entrees 9.95 up). They were both excellent, but the portions were small. I left the place hungry and had just spent $17 including tax and tip. Usually I have leftovers to take home from a place like this. The waitress was superb. I certainly don't know much about Thai food but I do know I'd eat here again. The food was great and we did not have to wait long from the time we placed our order to the time it hit our table. Everything on the menu sounded good and had good descriptions. For those like myself that don't know much about Thai food, the staff was very knowledgeable and very willing to help you make a decision.
