The interior design feels so personal and intentional and was the perfect place to share a meal with a friend, family, or a lover. This is one of my new favorite sots in LA. Amazing atmosphere, very homey, which we loved. The food was just as delicious and traditional.. My daughter got the beef kebab, and devoured it before I could take a picture. We also tried the hookah, which the owner was nice enough to explain to my daughter didn't know a lot about them. I don't understand how this place isn't packed! Sam is incredible. He treated us like family and even treated us to a complimentary dessert. Baba Ghanooj feels like walking into Sam and Noura's home. It's so freaking cozy and the music heightens the ambience. Sam's service is less of "service" and more like talking to your favorite uncle. Ordered: Combination plate. 1 kefta 1 beef. Comes with a side of rice and hummus. Falafel Baba ghanooj (duh) Mint tea (an absolute must if you love hot tea) Mint lemonade Knafeh Baklava Hookah (why not) My fav of the skewers was the beef. Hummus, smooth with chickpeas at the bottom and ughhhh I LOVE that. Baba ghanooj, even smoother than the hummus and quite smokey. I drenched the falafel with the baba ghanooj. Delicious. The baklava isn't a syrupy overload get your fingers sticky type. It's more like a baked treat which honestly, I was really into because the knafeh just did what she needed to do. Sam also taught us how to properly pull the knafeh to maximize our cheese to bite ratio. Overall, there's a lot of love just pouring out of this humble ma and pa spot. I loved this place, from back in the hookah bar days, to the way the owner always made us feel special and made sure we bhad great time, even after the business fell on hard times! Their food was the best. I loved their dry rub and quality meats for the grill, the labne, hummus and couscous were my absolute favorite in the US. All the flavors of the middle east here in LA. I was so sad that I had a negative experience at Baba Ghanooj. I loved the ambience and the location. It is a cute restaurant. However, the attention for my party was lacking and honestly unfair. We started off by waiting over 20 minutes for someone to come and take our order. Instead, we had to flag someone down. After we received our food, another party came in, and we realized they were immediately attended to, came to take their order shortly after, and would constantly come back to make sure they were okay. We were all in the same space, and the owner never looked at us or checked on us, yet they were very attentive to the other party that was sitting across from us. Even when paying the bill, we had to get the attention of the owner. At first, we were thinking they were really busy and they needed additional time, but after seeing that they were attentive to the party seated across from us, we were very disappointed. Food-wise, I enjoyed the falafel, and it was my first time trying it. The beef kebab I ordered was lacking, although I will say that the meat is soft. Their mint lemonade was also yummy and refreshing. Overall, the food was okay, with the exception of their falafel, which was fantastic. The dining experience at the restaurant was disappointing and unfair. I was really excited to try the food after I was recommended to try this place. I instantly fell in love with the ambiance and decor, but I won't be returning after our experience. Maybe your visit will be different after seeing other people's positive reviews. read more
